The Best Restaurants In Oxford - Oxford - The Infatuation

"Gees is a fancy-without-doing-too-much North Oxford restaurant that we daydream about hosting a wedding reception in. The Victorian glasshouse is decked out in olive trees and soft leather, and spooning chocolate nemesis in your mouth after lounging in the conservatory for a couple of hours is just the right thing to do. The menu draws from the Mediterranean, which means crispy, blistered pizzettas and crab linguine—and although none of it is groundbreaking, it’s all perfectly nice. The best meals here feature: a mozzarella and anchovy pizzetta, velvety, sticky gnocchi, braised caramelised leeks with feta, and, the star of the show, a slice of the rich, fudgy chocolate nemesis. It’s a big part of the reason we’d return again and again." - rianne shlebak

Best Restaurants in Oxford | Where to Eat on a Day Trip to Oxford | Eater London

"In the heart of north Oxford, this elegant Victorian conservatory houses local hotelier and restaurateur Jeremy Mogford’s most upmarket establishment. It’s usually packed every lunchtime and evening with a mixture of students and their parents celebrating or commiserating exam results, well-heeled residents of the million-pound mansions nearb,y and curious gourmands attracted by the Mediterranean-influenced menu, which includes wood-fired guinea fowl, nettle and wild garlic risotto and the most comprehensive paella imaginable." - Alexander Larman

Great place for brunch away from the crowds. Short walk put of tbe centre and close to park entrance. Food was very good. Service entertaining and polite. Environment stylish and quiet. Great coffee.

We had a wonderful Valentines dinner at Gees. The food was wonderful and atmosphere perfect for a date. The specials of the evening were really great as well! If we're ever in Oxford again we will dine here again.

Believe it or not, I’ve had my eye on going to Gees for 6 years, since I first came to Oxford for my undergrad in 2019! Yesterday, I went for the first time to celebrate my birthday. The ambience has always looked lovely, and that lived up to expectations. The staff were also very kind, professional, and attentive. Unfortunately, and I actually feel a bit for saying this, but the food was just really bad… Two on my table ordered the gnocchi, which was genuinely awful: it was in every respect just like eating mashed potatoes, without flavour or texture. Two of us had different spaghetti dishes, which were fine, but nothing different to what you could make at home in 20 minutes. A couple of us, myself included, are actually ill today with a bad stomach. The common trait is that we all had the crab for starter and are unwell today, but that could just be a coincidence. The steaks were very average, at best. Overall, after a long time wanting to go, I left feeling pretty disappointed, and that’s a shame. Again, I’d like to reiterate that the staff were great, and the cocktails were also really nice. It’s just the food! Maybe I came on a bad day, who knows.

The food is so well done! I am very selective, and my husband is an excellent chef so my expectations are high. The food here is excellent. Everything from starters to deserts. The service is wonderful too! I highly recommend this restaurant

Came back after 22 years and still enjoyed it great steak starter and atmosphere, customer service was outstanding won’t be leaving it 22 years for the next visit!

Google
This restaurant was overpriced as the food in terms of taste and presentation are not up to the standard of theat price paid. The Today’s fish £28.50, Pork Belly £25.35, burger £20.50. Atmosphere is too dark and too small for the two person round table. The issue matters us is the service is disappointing where we were stopped by a waitress when we were walking out of the restaurant, as she forgot to charge us an extra bottle of water in our bill we had paid at £121 and asked us to top up extra £5 ish with another bill printed out separately (we didn’t order any extra bottle of water at all).

Beautiful place with a warm atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed meal. The food is fresh and full of flavor, and the cocktails are made with great care. Service is kind and attentive, making the whole experience very pleasant.

Google
I recently enjoyed a fantastic lunch at Gees Restaurant in Oxford, and it was a delightful experience. The atmosphere was inviting, with a charming setup that enhanced the dining experience. I ordered a classic burger with a side of fries, which was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The burger was juicy and had a great combination of fresh ingredients, including crisp lettuce and melted cheese, while the fries were golden and crispy. The service was attentive and friendly, making me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. Gees is a wonderful spot for a casual yet high-quality meal in Oxford. I’ll definitely be returning and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious lunch with a lovely ambiance.

Yelp
An Oxford classic. Class exudes every aspect of this place, from incredible service the moment you walk in, to a wonderful atmosphere and world-class food and wine. Find time and the occasion to visit this place.

Yelp
Amazing place. Came with my wife to celebrate our anniversary and they greeted up with 2 glasses of champagne. Outside of this kind gesture, the staff was incredibly kind, helpful and an overall pleasure. The food was spectacular. Highly recommend the scallops. Should be 5 stars.

Yelp
We were really excited to come here, but this place was okay nothing too crazy for us! Maybe the hype was just too much, but still I would recommend it! Interior: So cute and lovely inside so definitely get a nice aesthetic feel to it. Food: Guinea Fowl: Always down to try new things and this fowl was no exception. But I'm glad I did because it was good! My rating comes from more So the rest of my party and they were not as hype as they were about the end of the meal lol Overall: Still this is a great place to go to. It definitely gets busy so make sure you go at a good time.

Yelp
Sat in the atrium of this restaurant right next to or maybe in the midst of Oxford, yet on the side with less traffic perhaps. We shared a gnocchi dish and two pizzetas. Absolutely refreshing and light but filling nonetheless. While we were there they offered a pre-fixe menu which was absolutely an amazing deal. I also had their chili pepper margarita. It had a catchy name but it was awesome! The atrium ambience was so delightful during our sunny day. I imagine it's gorgeous in the evening.

Yelp
Such a cute spot, but quite out of the way from town center if you're walking and definitely on the pricier end of the spectrum. I enjoyed the risotto and didn't particularly care for the burger (the sourdough bread on the bottom wasn't quite sturdy enough to support the meat and was soaked by the time the second bite was taken). But the glass greenhouse-like architecture combined with the pretty lights create an atmosphere that's at once both cozy and elegant; it's definitely worth coming to once but I don't have a strong desire to return.

Yelp
What a beautiful setting! Dining at this restaurant feels like you're sitting in a greenhouse. We arrived for an early dinner and quickly ordered 2 starters, the asparagus with butter and the salmon. Both were fresh and came out quickly. Next our party had the ribeye and trout. Both dishes were cooked perfectly and the chips were the perfect accompaniment. We ended the night with sorbet and chocolate cake! The cake was divine and worth every single sinful calorie. In fact, next time in Oxford for business I will stop by for starters and dessert! Yum!

Yelp
Visited Gee's on a weekday for dinner. I don't recommend sitting outside by the noise and bustle of Banbury road. Went with a friend who ordered the hamburger and I had the Risotto. The burger was completely undercooked for requesting medium. Never seen such a presentation with char grilled toast as a bun. The risotto on the other hand, was phenomenal. Service was incredibly slow, especially to get the bill. Next time, I'd prefer sitting in the greenhouse.

Yelp
Very nice interior (even though the immediate presence of a mildly busy road takes a bit of the charm away), but sadly they only serve brunch from 10:30 to 11:00. I had a tasty cranberry juice there, but the goats cheese risotto was a bit boring and heavy -- could have done with a bit of it replaced with a small side salad.

Yelp
Really lovely restaurant in a quiet area of Oxford. The restaurant itself is in a greenhouse, which created a very intimate, romantic atmosphere--great for date night! I've been to the restaurant twice, and the food has been great. Go with their lamb and game dishes. Their dessert is also very tasty (we had sticky toffee pudding on the last visit...yum!). Their cocktails are hit-and-miss. I had a great gin and chartreuse cocktail, while my husband's amaretto-based cocktail was pretty awful. It would have been undrinkable, except that we had paid quite a bit for it.

Yelp
Gee's came highly recommended as one of Oxford's best restaurants. Therefore it goes without saying that it needed trying out. I went there with a couple of friends on a Saturday night. The dining room which looks like some sort of glasshouse with cast-iron columns was booked out which usually is a good sign. So far, so good. After we had ordered, some bread arrived, that not only was overbaked with a brownish-black crust, but it was also horribly stale. I had ordered goat's cheese that came with a bit of dried-out salad and was completely lacking the characteristic tart flavour. The steak I had ordered as a main course came well-done although I had ordered it medium-rare and was dry and tough. What a shame for a nice piece of meat. After such an awful two courses, we opted not to have dessert there and left the place in utter disappointment. That said, service was quite attentive and the staff was friendly but slightly overwhelmed with a full house. What a pity !

Yelp
Yum! This place is an experience. We went for lunch on a Saturday, and had the three-course prix fixe. I had Jerusalem artichoke soup, gnocchi, and chocolate mousse. It was delicious. The ambiance was lovely, being surrounded by the glass of the old greenhouse. It had the feel of a garden, but still warm. The waitresses were very attentive, and the service was definitely good. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend it!

Yelp
Gee's came recommended and I placed it on my list to try. I opted for the 3 course dinner menu which was priced at £19.90. Grilled squid with lime and thyme This is probably the best way to taste the freshness of squid. Grilled to give a bit of smokey flavour and a touch of acidity with the lime with a hint of thyme, this would have gotten the thumbs up from me if not for the fact that the entire middle bit of the squid which is this one big chunk of meat was actually still raw. Understandably it does take longer to cook that section but I didn't finish it. Whole red mullet, saffron tomatoes and green beans The red mullet is actually quite a meaty piece of white fish. You get the whole mullet which actually equates to quite a substantial portion of meat. If you generally don't like the smell of fish, you might want to avoid this one. I loved the green beans which still had a good crunch in them and wasn't overcooked that it is just a pile of mush. The Bakewell tart had the slightly crumbly base and was pleasing to eat. I enjoyed my meal at Gee's. The service was attentive and it has a good vibe to it.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere! Nothing comes near in Oxford for lunch time. Whether it is sunny, cloudy or rainy day, for every weather the atmosphere is unique in the restaurant. It is a glass house converted restaurant. Their menu changes depending on the veg and fruits of the season. Their prices are very reasonable for the quality of food, atmosphere and service! I go to this place for lunch once a month. It's my top favourite place for lunch in Oxford. You can walk to this place from cornmarket in 15minutes.

Yelp
I went today for a birthday lunch to celebrate my friend's birthday. We had the EXPRESS LUNCH MENU which we both felt was very pleasant but a little overpriced at £45, minus any drinks. The starter of cauliflower and capers was delicious. The main meal of mushroom and pasta had a lovely rich sauce. The croquette dish was a little lacking flavour and I couldn't really taste the fish but the sauce really made this dish work. So I would order it again for this. It would be nice to have a choice of two puddings, we had the rhubarb crumble and custard, which was served in a nice little pot. - I asked for some bread to accompany the meal and we were given two end crusts of bread, cut in half and it cost £2-50. I didn't expect to pay for a small bit of bread and didn't expect to receive the end crusts! - my coffee cup came stained with coffee marks from previous use, not properly washed by the dish washer, but I am sure this was an oversight and the lady was lovely about changing it. - the dining area became quite hot because of the sunshine, so it is worth taking sunglasses. It also became quite hot and it would have been nice if the air con was put on. - I was suddenly surprised to see a big dog arrive with a group, accompanying them for lunch. He sat next to me, and I would have liked to have been informed this was happening. I like pets but I get quite nervous around dogs. I would like to have been asked. Instead I moved to another seat. It's always a bit strange when you have pets join you for lunch. It would be better to have a notice up to say pets are welcome, just out of curtesy. - the chairs were not suitable for dining, providing very little back support. It was much more suited to a garden lounge. -I did mention it was a birthday lunch in my booking and they said about bringing a small cake and acknowledging this, but this was not done, which was a real shame. - Service charge was included at 12.5%. But I would prefer to pay the quality of service I receive instead of having to pay what is expected. - the lady serving us was very polite and attentive. I appreciated that. Overall a nice small meal. But for £45 for an express lunch, with no soft drinks or alcohol, I think there could be a little more attention to detail. -I feel for the standard of the restaurant it should cost around £30-£35, with a coffee and bread included.

Yelp
Great food, great setting, and wonderful staff. We took our daughter here for her 21st birthday and Gee's did not disappoint. Ordered from the "All Day Menu" vs. the 3 course "Fixed Price" menu. Plenty of selection including the bar menu. They even got my martini correct, shaken not stirred. From small plates thru dessert we had nothing that was not first class. I would suggest making this a must stop if you are anywhere near Oxford. One of if not the best meal I have ever had in England.

Michael H.

Yelp
I am biased. This is not the kind of restaurant I like. It is a giant greenhouse and serves OK but not great food. The service is OK but not great. The ambiance is (I suppose) OK but not for me. I no longer eat here. There are too many other much better places in Oxford.

Christine X.

Yelp
The restaurant itself is gorgeous with the glass walls and ceiling and greenery. The wait staff is very friendly. The food is average for the amount you're paying. Basically it's a place to come for ambience rather than for top notch food.

Yelp
Best food in Oxford. That glass house is perfect for business meeting and family lunch. Sometimes there is live music.

Yelp
The best date restaurant in Oxford it is a beautiful restaurant especially in the evening. Can get pretty busy though so need to book ahead. The large steaks are grilled lamb sharing dishes are all really good. Then if your date goes really well you can come back in the morning for a really great brunch, the pizzetas are not to be missed.

Yelp
Great brunch. Try the English pizzette and benedict eggs

Jackie J.

Yelp
Such a romantic spot. Probably the most beautiful restaurant in Oxford. The restaurant's walls and roof are entirely glass; the decor with its small indoor trees and dangling lights make this place look like it's straight out of Pinterest. The comfy corner booths made for an intimate Valentine's Day dinner, and the large center table was perfect for a group birthday brunch! The gelato is to dieeee for. It was SO good. Get dessert if you're here for dinner for sure! They're also quite good about allergies; I have a nut allergy, and when I told the waitress, she took the menu back to the chef and he marked all the items that were guaranteed to be nut-free or that he could alter to fit my dietary requirements. Definitely a great place if you're looking for a special occasion venue.

Yelp
We had an excellent meal here. The menu was great (we appreciated the vegetarian options), the environment was delightful, the food was prepared beautifully, and our server was both knowledgeable and sweet. We will be going back.

Sally P.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! We had a really nice meal at Gee's, good food, good service. I don't think I'd bring my children there for dinner, it's more of an adult crowd. Very relaxed atmosphere in a beautiful room.
