"Gees is a fancy-without-doing-too-much North Oxford restaurant that we daydream about hosting a wedding reception in. The Victorian glasshouse is decked out in olive trees and soft leather, and spooning chocolate nemesis in your mouth after lounging in the conservatory for a couple of hours is like offering your seat on the bus to a pensioner—it’s just the right thing to do. The menu draws from the Mediterranean, which means crispy, blistered pizzettas and crab linguine—and although none of it is groundbreaking, it’s all perfectly nice. In winter, the gentle patter of rain on the ceiling is the only playlist necessary for a romantic night out. And in summer, lunches run long—as they should. And the best meals here feature: a mozzarella and anchovy pizzetta, velvety, sticky gnocchi, braised caramelised leeks with feta, and, the star of the show, a slice of the rich, fudgy chocolate nemesis. It’s the best thing on the menu, and a big part of the reason we’d return again and again. photo credit: Rianne Shlebak photo credit: Rianne Shlebak photo credit: Gees Restaurant & Bar photo credit: Rianne Shlebak photo credit: Gees Restaurant & Bar Pause Unmute RESERVE A TABLE WITH RESERVE A TABLE" - Rianne Shlebak
