Best Chinese food in Phoenix. We've lived here in Arizona for a year now and have tried every Chinese restaurant from Tonopah to Phoenix and this is the best we've found. It really is excellent.
Had the Peking duck around the holidays (order it the day before) and it was epic. Fatty, juicy, fresh duck and it comes to your table in 3 ways. One is in a mu-shu type wrap with a sweet plum sauce. It was to die for. The other is roasted in a tasty, slightly sweet and slightly piquant sauce. It was tender and mild and delectable with a flavor that just warmed your tastebuds. It was amazing.
The citrus crispy chicken is one of the best dishes here. Just phenomenal. Huge hunks of super tender white meat chicken, wrapped in a light and very crispy coating and then drizzled with a zesty and sweet lemon-orange-honey sauce, with garlic and green onions. Wow!
The fried rices are perfect examples of this American-Chinese hybrid dish. No burnt flavor. It's light and fluffy and slightly greasy, with a perfect proportion of diced veggies and flavorful pork (or whatever protein you like). I'm currently making my way down the "House Specialties" section of the menu, and it has been amazing.
You can't go wrong here. I will say the orange chicken is just ok. It didn't blow me away like some of the other things. Same with the sweet and sour pork. Oh, and be sure to blow your mind with the pork and string beans. Sounds weird hit is delicious. So much to eat here...
Last thing is the service. Now, Chinese restaurants often have cranky servers and mean floor managers. Everybody's yelling. But not here. In particular, Becky is the best server around. Attentive, fast, candid, funny, and warm. In my opinion, she makes the place.
So try George Yangs. It is a Phoenix institution for a reason. Prices are "Bidenomics-reasonable" meaning even though everything now costs an arm and a leg, they are somewhere in the low to middle range. Nice atmosphere, dark, Chinese-restauranty, excellent food...what's not to love.
