Giuseppina’s - Review - Park Slope - New York - The Infatuation

"Kimbal Musk and Stephen Baldwin and Rickon Stark would all tell you that having a famous brother has its pros and cons. They are gifted some level of fame and opportunity, but they also have to live in a pretty big shadow. Kimbal may do some great things and he probably won’t have any trouble getting his message out to the world, but if he doesn’t set up a colony on Mars or get us to The Hamptons in under three hours on a Friday afternoon, then he’ll always be referred to as Elon’s brother. Similarly, Giuseppina’s is run by the brother of the guy behind Lucali, and while they make good pizza, it doesn’t measure up to the stuff coming out of the oven at that much-more-famous spot. Giuseppina’s looks a lot like Lucali, from the dark dining room with candlelit tables to the wood-burning oven in the open kitchen, and the pizza is pretty similar as well. There are a few topping options, but all of them are pretty subtle, and the focus is on the thin crust. We like the plain pizza best, which has some very good housemade tomato sauce, mozzarella, and a bunch of fresh basil. That said, the calzone is chewy and pretty bland, especially compared to the truly special version at Lucali. It’s also expensive, and a cash-only spot charging $36 for a veggie pie better be making some fantastic pizza. While the food here is definitely good, we find ourselves wondering if this place would be noteworthy if there was no Lucali. Like Rickon without Robb, the answer is probably no. Food Rundown Plain Pie Giuseppina’s focuses far more on the crust than the toppings, so we’d recommend going with the plain pie to get the full experience. The mozzarella and housemade tomato sauce are very good, and if you’re a fan of basil, you’ll appreciate that they seem to put an entire plant on each pie. Calzone While the calzone may be the best thing at Lucali, the ones here have too much bread and taste chewy and bland. There also isn’t enough ricotta, and if you order fillings like pepperoni or prosciutto, you’ll barely be able to taste them. White Pie This doesn’t have any sauce, so it’s basically just an oversized piece of cheesy bread. The crust is good, but at $24, this is one of the most overpriced pies we can remember eating. Veggie Pie This is basically the same as the plain pie, but you pay an extra $12 for a few olives, mushrooms, and peppers. Dessert Calzone Pizza dough filled ricotta and topped with Nutella. Yes, this is good. If you’re OK following multiple courses of dough and cheese with some more cheese and dough, then this is worth trying." - Matt Tervooren

New York’s Best Calzone Is at Ops Pizza in Bushwick | Eater

"A more accessible alternative to the cramped, mythic pizza spot next door: pies and calzones mirror that sibling’s style and are often nearly as exemplary without the long waits. Large calzones can erupt with ricotta and sometimes read as a bit bland, but small calzones—examples include a mushroom-and-garlic vegetarian and a sausage-and-peppers—are perfectly sized for weeknight dinners, thin, elegant, and easy to hold." - Bill Addison

The super dim location made it easy to see the cool fire column in the back oven. Fresh, delicious pizza - one $29 pie had 8 slices and can easily feed 3-4 people. They are cash only without a working ATM, but they did end up accepting Venmo. Service was sufficient.

🍕 AMAZING FRESH FLAT STYLE PIZZA 🍕 Giuseppina’s is a non discreet corner pizza restaurant with really fresh pizza and ingredients. The price is higher than other places as it feels like a nicer, gourmet style experience. Super cozy inside good for a group of 2-4. We had the mushroom with crumbled sweet sausage and it was excellent. The pies are more flat style so best to keep toppings minimum. The interior is centered around their wood burning oven where they use fresh cut firewood. 🪵 Great place for a neighborhood date. Highly Recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

After seeing this place from TikTok, we decided to check it out. We went on a Friday and waited around 20-30 mins to get seated. We ordered the pizza with fresh basil and it was by far the best pizza I have ever had! It came out super hot and fresh. The basil on top gave it a super fresh taste and me and my fiance ate almost all of it. The crust was perfect and the pizza was thin but still had that perfect bite to it. Highly recommend this spot and we will definitely be coming here again!

Google
Gotta go in person to try because delivery was not good quality for the price we paid. I’ve gotten pizza deliveries from farther away, cheaper, and better. The white pie was good, the regular margherita not so much. Will give them another chance in person and will update review!

Google
Great atmosphere the smells the sounds definitely see how it compares to Lucali. Candlelit a lot of charm would be great for a date , pizza itself was a great pie not as good as Lucali no basil on the standard pie that’s extra cost that’s kind of lame , maybe different cheese . But it is what it is definitely can’t go wrong . Calzone was really good too can’t go wrong . Solid cracker thin crust. Place got busy on a Sunday after opening , a lot of families with unruly kids it gets real loud I don’t know if that’s the norm I love kids but this is getting crazy out there , handle your kids parents! Service wasn’t bad a little more attention could be nice , waiter young not much personality. Would go back but so many pies to try maybe if you are in the neighborhood wanting a fix or need your kids to run around a bit 🤣

The pizzas here are definitely very good - you can taste the quality of the ingredients and the execution on the pizza itself. Undercarriage is perhaps a bit too weak at parts but overall holds up. Thought the Nutella calzone was disappointing but that could be personal taste. Cash only!

Google
This is a fantastic place for authentic Italian pizza. Wood fired, light, thin, not overloaded, freshest ingredients. We shared a veggies pizza and their dessert calzone. Both were excellent. Granted I am not a fan of heavy Chicago style pizza. This was Brooklyn style. This was wonderful! We were walk-ins on a Thursday at 6:30pm.

Google
This pizza place is Overpriced. There are many better pizza place in Brooklyn which are cheaper. They charged $6 for basil leaf topping. When we got the pizza, we found that they just put the basil leaf in the corner of the box. Toppings should be on top of the pizza and not on the side. And if they served it like that to keep the leaf fresh then they should serve fresh leaves. For $6 we could buy fresh and clean a family size container. Take a look at the pictures of basil leaf. It’s sad how they change so much already for the pizza itself then charge additional for old and stale basil leaf. Least they could’ve wash them and put it in a small plastic container. Never going back to this place again.

Yelp
I had an incredible dining experience at Giusseppina's on Monday night with a group of 8. From the moment we arrived, we were seated promptly, and the service was outstanding. We followed our waiter's recommendations and chose the classic pizza, which exceeded all expectations. The pizza featured a delightfully thin crust, fresh mozzarella, and a flavorful sauce that truly impressed. We shared two pizzas and ended our meal with dessert, which was a delectable combination of creamy filling and Nutella drizzled over a perfect dough. The atmosphere at Giussepina's was warm and inviting, making it an excellent choice for celebrating a friend's birthday. The staff was exceptionally friendly, contributing to a welcoming vibe that made the evening even more special. The restaurant, a hidden gem in Brooklyn, offers an upscale dining experience at reasonable prices for groups. I can't recommend this spot enough and look forward to returning.

Yelp
Great alternative if you don't want to wait for Lucalis. While it's still not Lucali, I do think it's great in its own way. My partner and I came on a Wednesday 7pm and it was quite empty. We were seated promptly and food came quick. Calzone was great and came with the side sauce. The sauce is delicious but the under side of the calzone was a bit soggy unfortunately. Pizza came out hot, crispy crust and delectable sauce. Service was also great. Place is dim and a great spot for a date or for something casual. I would be back.

Yelp
Food: 4/5 Ambience: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Cost: 4/5 Will return: Definitely, especially for the times when I don't want to brave the line at Lucali

Yelp
Delicious pizza in a beautiful neighborhood sit outside and enjoy your life, I wish I could eat this thin crust savory pizza every day unfortunately I live too far away. I highly recommend this. Everyone says this is an alternative Lucali even though I haven't had Lucali yet, I give this five stars

Yelp
Good pizza and calzone here! We tried to go to Lucali but it was closed, so we found this spot as a backup. There was no line, and the restaurant itself had a really nice brick vibe. The calzone was exceptional, and the pizza was quite good, but definitely not on par with Lucali. One thing I was surprised by is that we showed up at open, and they seemed to be out of many ingredients at the start of service. Overall definitely good spot though!

Yelp
Found this charming hole in the wall pizza place that I see shining as a secret gem of Brooklyn. Ended up here for a late dinner around 10 PM, because several places were already closed, and I'm sure glad the evening shook out that way otherwise we would've never happened upon this place. Fairly small restaurant, maybe 10 to 15 tables. Their menu is strictly pizzas and calzones... We went with the pizza, but I think the calzones are where it's at according to the menu and others ordering around us. The brick oven they cook everything in is out in the open so you get to see you them cooking your food. Since it is brick oven style, your order is done fairly quickly. They seem to have a lot of to go orders at the end of the night, as we were probably one of the last tables to be seated, and only a few other people were at the restaurant when we arrived. There was a limited beer and wine selection, but not surprised as it is a small place. The Brooklyn logger was just OK and my Pinot noir seemed very sweet... Not the vibe I was looking for wine-wise, but it did the trick For food we went with the white pizza. Seems like the pizzas were fairly pricey, but they were much larger than your regular brick oven type pizza... I would say it was at least a 14 or 16 inch. No complaints here as now we have leftovers for tomorrow evening when we get home from our event! Everyone loves some leftover pizza for a late night snack, am I right?! The pizza was great, and all the cheese was thoroughly baked, so no sliding off the crust. The crust was just crispy enough, there was no need to fold the pizza. We still wanted to try out the pizza sauce so we ask for a side of it to dip the white pizza in. Definitely a must! The sauce was excellent... Not too sweet, not to tangy... it was just right! So you better believe we got a side of that to take home with us for the leftovers! The wait staff was very prompt and attentive. Not necessarily the friendliest, but not rude by any means. I'm sure in the night you were just looking to get the job done so you can focus on closing up, and I'm sure with the amount of takeout orders they were fairly occupied. All in all, it was a very good experience, and would recommend to others. Great vibe for a girls dinner, to catch up with an old friend or even date night like we did... The ambience was low lit with lovely music that was just the right level so you weren't talking too loud or couldn't hear someone.

Yelp
I ordered a calzone for delivery (a small, for 28 dollars) and it was awful. It arrived in a paper bag, cold, sitting on a single paper plate, the sides flopping over. It was flat, soggy, and came without marinara. I quickly improvved a sauce on the stovetop, and that was the best thing about this calzone: a sluice of Polly-O ricotta and nothing else (that I could taste). What a disappointment.

Yelp
A cash only restaurant with a simple menu. As a big fan of lucali, we naturally had to try giuseppinas! We got the small sized calzone (it's actually not small at all) and regular pizza and everything pizza without the olives. Big fan of the calzone and the toppings on the everything pizza really lifted the flavors of the pizza. The hot peppers especially gave each slice a kick of heat. The pizza was thin crust, wood fired, and tasted fresh. It was surprisingly not busy for a Friday night. We sat down right away and our food came pretty quickly. Solid and good pizza. Definitely worth trying.

Yelp
I enjoyed the pizza from here. Let's be honest, you went here because you heard the owner is related to the owner of Lucali. The service was on point - lightning fast, cash only, 10-15 minutes wait for a pie. The pizza was delicious - good dough and good sauce, you can't go wrong there. I'd love to go back.

Yelp
Another stop on my first trip to NYC & it didn't disappoint! I personally love a thin crust & more bare pizza & Giuseppina's nailed it. I ended up eating a whole pizza in terms of slices if that says anything. We went in for dinner during a weekday. It wasn't very busy so we were served fairly quickly & the quality matched the service. The server was super nice & the service was good. The ambiance was also pretty cool, it was very dim lighting so the main focus was on the oven in the back which I appreciated. It's a decent size dining room so I imagine even if it were busy it would still be enjoyable. They only serve pizza so keep that in mind if you go! We ordered a garlic & basil pizza & a spicy sausage one. I typically prefer something lighter like a margherita but the sausage pie took the cake. It was insanely good. The other pizza was great too but the flavor of the spicy sausage pizza was so unique & satisfying. Our total was $87 for the 2 pizzas & 3 soft drinks. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience & the pizza. Honestly some of the best pizza I've ever had & the thin crust was delicious. I've heard it's because of the water in Brooklyn but the crust is worth the trip alone. As far as the quality of the pizza it was great, I'm not sure how it would hold up in a to go box because it is so delicate, but we had a great experience & I will definitely be going back!

Yelp
Its 1/1/2022 ... I wanted pizza bad ... Yelp is my advisor and saw this wasn't too far for pick up. When I pulled up the reviews for a quick recap. This one 3 star review picked up but i disregarded it . Maybe im being too much but i expected more. I arrived and said was doing pick up. I waved to the nice man standing in the back. Another younger male arrives, he either asks for my name or what i ordered. I give him both. He opens a box. The pizza looked bare. Lmao i knew that couldn't be my pizza because i ordered half pepperoni half basil. I pay 31 in cash. He hands me the box that in my head i just questioned was it mine? I said is this mine he goes yes. I open it up outside. I wanted to slam it on the ground ... I feel disrespected.. i honestly want to cry ... I hope this is not an indication to what my food year ... 3 stars cause i'm only one side of the story. I hate when my food experience is interrupted like this especially when i could have gone anywhere ... Im still going to eat my 31 dollar pizza with a tear and heartbreak.

Yelp
A solid 4.0 in my book, and as you know, I have tried a lot of pizza since returning to the northeast 18 months ago. Before I came here, I did my research and found the owner here is the brother of the owner who owns Lucali. While I have never been to Lucali (impossible to get into unless you can get through the phones or you live nearby), I have done my research on the pie and found similarities between the two. Some even call this a "poor man's Lucali", which is not saying much since Lucali charges $28 for a pie; Giuseppina's charges $24. When it comes to atmosphere, this restaurant looks the romantic type. The low lighting, candle lit tables, the singers of the 1940's and 1950's serenading you as you eat. There is no dress code here, but this restaurant screams date night. When it comes to taste, I liked this pie, but did not love it. The crust is light and chewy, comprable to pita bread, the sauce is a bit light, but it works well, albeit it takes a back seat to the cheese here; I find the Parmesan cheese here packs a bit of a bite, which is why I went through 5 glasses of water with this pie. It also comes with Buffala mozzarella, the king of all cheeses, which really made it stand out and taste great. I was able to finish the whole pie easily, because the crust is so light, and because I kept drinking water to help move things along. It is roughly a 10 minute walk from the R train on Prospect Ave, so you have some time to walk this pie off so your gut will not be as bad when you finish. Cash only. Now I have to try Lucali - if I can ever get in there...

Yelp
The dough and lightness of the pizza reminded me of lucali but the cheese and sauce was different. It was definitely a nice experience and that calzone was definitely worth it. Though if you're not super hungry get their small calzone since their small is already huge.

Zohar L.

Yelp
Been here several times and it never disappoints! Pizza is great, service is impeccable. Tonight we hosted a private party at Giuseppina's and I can't say enough great things. It was a huge success! The servers were so accommodating and I would absolutely host a party there again. Would absolutely recommend!!! Best pizza and everyone had such a great time!! Thank you!!
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
Some people say that the owner is the same as Lucali. The pizza and menu is very similar. Not byob since they serve alcohol. Isolated in a residential area that's extremely difficult to find parking. The pizza dough is thin and light but the flavor of the pizza was your typical pizza. The dessert calzone was my favorite.

Yelp
Love this place. Just fantastic pizza, reasonably priced wine and a great vibe in the restaurant. One of the best pizzas in New York for sure.

Yelp
Amazing pizza with cozy italian vibes. Cash only spot in a very underrated spot in the neighborhood. I highly recommend getting spicy sausage and onions on your pizza. Also their calzone is unreal, with a cloud-like ricotta. Service is excellent, vaccination proof required and everyone inside is masked appropriately. A nod to the uniform & caps too.

Maria S.

Yelp
This was the best brick oven pizza (cheese) that I ever had! Really great ambiance of the restaurant, big brick oven inside so you get to watch your pizza baking in front of you.

Yelp
Wow! Blew me away~ I didn't think anything could beat John's on Bleecker or Grimaldi's but recently I've had Lucali and a few others. This place Giuseppina's kicked all their asses! I mean royally. Brooklyn makes the best pizza around period. Hands down Giuseppina's is my current #1 pizzeria in New York. My friend lives in Park Slope so we walked here. Saturday night, few seats left. The place is so cool; romantic, chill vibe, great date spot, and or catch up with some friends. Started off with the wine, nice Italian options. Enjoyment. The pizza came... insane! Definitely get a pizza pie there, great service, old school, open kitchen, watch the pizza creations and eat the best ever. I can't describe how happy I was. Half pepperoni, and half mushroom & olive. Beautiful. Seriously, sometimes you never know. Walking into an unassuming place and getting your tastebuds exploded with flavor is the best!! No need to go anywhere else. I promise you! The people of Park Slope are so lucky to have this local gem in their neighborhood. Thanks for the amazing pizza and hospitality Grazie Mille~

Yelp
I'm so glad to have this spot in my neighborhood. Great pizza in a casual atmosphere where you can always get a table. The menu is straightforward - pizza and calzones. Just pick your topping and it's cooked to perfection in the brick oven. My faves are pepperoni, white with shallots, and basil. Nutella calzones for dessert are a solid choice as well. It's cash only. And while it's a comfortable neighborhood spot, it's not cheap.

Debbie J.

Yelp
The atmosphere was intimate but casual . The food was pretty good, it was made to perfection. Our server was nice and polite . The portion size was reasonable. Overall was great experience .

Yelp
A Hidden gem of brooklyn. this place is my Favorite spot!Great tasting pizza and Calzone.

Yelp
The Buffalo mozzarella pizza in the city. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. We're made to feel like friends no matter the request in this cozy neighborhood restaurant.

Yelp
Tried going to Lucali but they were too busy so we found out the brother runs this spot and went here on a whim with no expectations. Litterally hit 15 pizza spots over the weekend for my first time in NY and I truly loved this spot. Such a hidden gem in Brooklyn I'm not sure how it hasn't had higher exposure. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a super old school and welcoming Italian gentleman that sat us down. The waitress was just as friendly and super sweet. Coming from LA I had never heard of a Manhattan Special but it was such a treat - a bottled espresso cola. The lambrusco chilled sparkling wine is also a must. We got a cheese pizza with fresh basil and garlic. Everything was perfect, from the light soft crust, to the perfectly spiced tomato pizza sauce, the mozzarella cheese, and the basil leaves on top. This joint made my Top 3 from everything I had in NY. Can't recommend enough.

Yelp
Stone cold on arrival. If you want vaguely warm go elsewhere for your delivery. The 718 telephone number is answered with voicemail, no complaints accepted. Eat in only.

Yelp
The crust of Giuseppina's pizza is great but the toppings were rather disappointing. The bell pepper and onion we ordered were almost raw and lacked any taste. The place was dark. Service was ok.
google avatar

Ryan F.

Yelp
Had an excellent Cheese Pizza at Giuseppina's on Saturday evening. While I was less thrilled with my Calzone and felt adjustments need to be made with the toppings, there is no doubt this is one of the best pizzas I have had. Quality: After a less than appetizing pizza experience the day before, my craving for a high quality pizza continued and so we decided to check out Giuseppina's. And I am glad we did. Their pizza was exactly what I was looking for. Our meal started however with a Small Calzone adding in Sweet And Spicy Sausage. It was a decent Calzone, but not in the same category as their pizza. For me the issues were a slightly underdone dough and not a sweet enough ricotta. There also was not a lot of sausage, which for the price I expected to fill up the Small Calzone. The Cheese Pizza however more than made up for the flaws in the Calzone. It was everything I hope for in my pizza, starting with the magnificent crust. Perfect crunch to softness ratio. Then just a thin layer of sauce and cheese to prevent any sogginess from taking hold. The sauce was just a little sweet and I think balanced a very fresh and tangy mozzarella. Some may argue the pizza is a bit too dry, but I think it works great. Quantity: We ordered more food than we needed, yet still managed to finish it all. I will say adding Sausage to our Calzone was a poor decision as it was expensive for a very small addition. Value: $24 for a Cheese Pizza. $14 for a Small Calzone. $3-$8 for Toppings. Please be aware that they are cash only. Ambiance: Giuseppina's is a pizza spot located south of Park Slope in Brooklyn. It is in a more residential area, so it is not a place that you will just stumble upon. Outside they had five or so tables set up and we ended up selected one against the building. The inside is a very dimly lit space, that seems both classic, but also a little outdated, especially the ceiling lights and fan. Tables fill up the front area and the brick oven sits in very back behind a bar. It seemed like they were allowing some folks to eat inside now, but on a perfect day, outside was the better option. Crowd: We arrived shortly after they opened and were one of only two tables. However, we watched as multiple boxes of pizza were picked up for delivery. Service: Our waiter was great, even though we did not instruct, he knew exactly how to pace the food. Parking: Plenty of nearby street parking.

Yelp
Found this place since our normal go-to location was closed and the wait for Lucali was way too long. Good to know there's an alternative whenever the pizza craving strikes. Excellent thin crust New York style pie. The only negative is that it's so light that you'll probably still want to eat more after you polish off a pie. That's when you add on the Nutella calzone. Hits the spot perfectly to round out the meal.
google avatar

Wendy W.

Yelp
3.5 stars. This place is owned by Chris Iacono, Mark's brother, and it has a limited menu that focuses on pizza and calzones. Both are what I imagine Lucali's versions would taste like, but cheaper and with much less hype and waiting. We got the pizza with fresh basil and fresh garlic (these toppings are no longer free, by the way), and it was decent. They piled on the basil leaves, and although I didn't mind, my friend didn't like that at all. The fresh garlic seemed nonexistent because I certainly didn't taste it. I did really like the thin crust and how fresh and slightly chewy it was without being firm and scraping the roof of my mouth. I'm not really a crust person, but they nailed the dough here. The pizza was less saucy than I was hoping for, and some slices were very inconsistent, with the crust area starting halfway through the pizza slice. Historically I haven't cared much about calzones, but theirs was phenomenal. We split a large one, which came with a dish of marinara sauce. It was a bit watery, but it still added a more refreshing tomato-y flavor without drawing focus from the deliciousness of the calzone. The dough had that same good flavor as the pizza crust, and the filling was perfectly cheesy with a creaminess that wasn't overwhelmingly rich. The ricotta really added an extra pop. Luigi's, one of my favorite pizzerias, is just a block away, so I can't justify spending my pizza calories here. But I will most definitely return for calzones.

Yelp
Wow! Cheese pizza is on point. It had been way too long since I'd had such good New York thin crust pizza. Yeah, it's pricey, but they nail the holy trinity of dough, sauce , and cheese -- in terms of both proportions and flavors! I deduct one star because they only do deliveries through DoorDash or Slice. I understand how it might be hard for small businesses to keep full-time delivery staff on payroll, but the delivery "services" are like piranhas! 17% delivery fees are extortion, and benefit neither the business nor the customer, and least of all the delivery bikers, the most exploited of them all!

Yelp
Loved the pizza. Atmosphere was nice but casual and the service was natural and attentive

Yelp
As soon as I walked in, Chris the owner greeted me with a warm welcome in his Brooklyn accent. I saw the wood fire oven at the back of the restaurant and knew I was in for a treat. I came to Brooklyn to have the best pizza and Indeed it was ah-mazing! The crust was thin and cooked perfectly. The sauce had a delicious tomato and herb flavor and the portobello mushroom was aromatic and juicy. His son Chris was great! I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
This is the kind of review I don't even want to write because the more people talk about how great this place is, the longer the wait times will get. I love pizza and this place does it right. No question about it. This isn't one of those typical pizzerias that like to model themselves as a great Italian Restaurant that serves pastas and salads as well. This place does one thing and they do it well. The smaller, thinner crust Pizza is the best around (Di Fara I am talking to you). One bite and you know what you are dealing with. They make only two things, pies and calzones. And while the kinds of pizzas and the kinds of toppings offered has expanded, I usually stick to the plain pie with basil and garlic. For me, there is no need to mess with perfection. So go and try them out. Or dont... more pizza for me.

Yelp
Two things I make sure I get while in NY are hot dogs and pizza. With both being prevalent in the city, we try to venture out and try several of the "best pizza in NY" recommendations. And as you probably know, there are no shortage of "best pizza" recommendations in NY. Giuseppina's was very slow the day we went so service was definitely quick and attentive. We ordered one of the classic pie's, pepperoni, and it was really, really good. I wouldn't say it's the best but it would definitely be a contender. Giuseppina's is located in a neighborhood kind of off the main stream streets so it has that neighborly feel that I really likes too.

Yelp
We decided to try this local pizza place and definitely enjoyed the local neighborhood feel and ambiance. Service was very good as was the pizza, some of the best I've had. Ingredients tasted so fresh and the. Crust was ideal. The major drawback for me was the price for each pizza and the fact that they only accepted cash. Yes, there is an ATM tucked in the back by the restroom and of course charges you a $2.50 fee (likely that a percentage goes to the establishment). An 18" veggie pizza (8 slices) will se though back $36 which is extremely high. The "Everything" pizza will set you back even more - $50 for the same size. Beer and wine is limited. Beer is only offered in bottles and unfortunately no cold mugs are offered. Lastly, if you have to take anything home with you, ask them to carefully package it. Our leftover pizza was tossed in a ziploc and then in to a paper bag. Not ideal. Street parking available. Don't forget to bring at least $120 in cash for a group of four.

Yelp
Awesome brick oven pizza, very cozy vibe, amazing service . The Nutella calzone is a must try for dessert. Brooklyn Brick Oven 5/5.

Yelp
If you want the exact same pie as Lucali's without the line, this is the joint. Nothing else to say really cuz Lucali really does live up to the hype and this place is equally as good. Guiseppina's is a bit tough to get to without a car, so you need to take the F/G or hoof it to South Slope. However, If this place was in Carroll Gardens it would be packed every single day and would give Lucali a run for its money. The ambience is similar to Lucali with the lighting, rolling dough with wine bottles, the rat pack on the stereo etc. It's the perfect pizza restaurant that most folks don't even know about. One thing Giuseppina's has that Lucali doesn't have? A/C!!!!!

Yelp
The neighborhood spot that is part of the lucali empire is listed on most sites as some of the best pizza in Brooklyn. That is why after dining there with friends I found myself a bit disappointed. It is solid pizza, but for this price in Brooklyn you can do better. A limited menu. Pizza and drinks. 40 bucks for the everything pizza, which includes pepperoni, onion, peppers, mushroom, olives and basil. The sauce is nice and so is the crust. The main problem was that the crust was undercooked and basically raw on the top. Not a good look for a place that only does pizza. Maybe it was an off night.

Yelp
A GREAT brick-oven pizza place that doesn't require lining up for several hours with every tourist in the city? I'll take it. Best of all, Giuseppina's is quiet and romantic (great place for a date). Tucked away on a quiet street in South Slope, it's truly a hidden gem. The menu is simple. Just get the pizza, any pizza. It's one size fits all. My boyfriend and I went with half regular and half veggie. Both were delicious, but I have to put in a special word for the veggie. Veggie pizzas can often be overdone with too much going on, but this was the perfect combination and ratio of toppings. Wash it down with a glass of Pinot, and you're golden. CASH ONLY.

Yelp
This is a spot that you've got to try. I never knew I liked calzones until someone brought me here for dinner. I was skeptical, and wasn't sure I would like the calzone, but it was unlike anything I've ever had before. It was so gooey and creamy- the blend of cheeses was just perfect. The marinara sauce on the side was sooooo delicious as well. I loveeeee a good tomato sauce! Their pizzas are also really yummy and you can tell the ingredients are fresh. MAKE SURE YOU BRING CASH!! This place is cash only. Also- you definitely want to order the dessert calzone. It's soooooo good. This is a cute spot to come with hour family, a date, anyone really. It's not super fancy but it's cute and and cozy and romantic with nice dim lighting. Definitely check this place out!

Yelp
All they do is pizza and calzones, no salad, no wings, no breadsticks. But, damn, their pizza is great. Was in town for film festival, and they rep NYC pie well.

Yelp
Took a brutal night bike run just for this pizza because the pictures on their website was too tempting. I arrived way beyond when I called as I underestimated my ETA so the pies weren't piping hot but it was still amazing *chefs kiss I saved the leftovers and ate it the next day and it was still fresh. Also, they gave so much basil unlike other pizzerias. They're reasonably priced and offer high quality. Will not disappoint!

Yelp
I am not quite as enthusiastic about Giuseppina's as other reviewers. I like the space, I like the location, but I am lukewarm about their Pizza. I have made several trips to Giuseppina's after I've gone for a run around Greenwood Cemetery. There aren't many options in Greenwood Heights, and there is a big influx new neighbors. My check is never small when I dine there and it is good thing that I'm not broke.

Yelp
Been wanting to come to Lucali forever now but was never thrilled about waiting hours for pizza. But what's this - another restaurant brought to you by the same family but without the long wait times? Sold! I convinced my buddy (who might I add is not as adventurous as me when it comes to traveling for food) to come here after our time spent at Other Half in Carroll Gardens. Although, it was quite the walk, we arrived just after 5 which is when they open on Saturdays. We were the first ones in the restaurant, quickly served drinks (they are BYOB) and ordered a pizza - half w/cheese and half w/prosciutto and artichokes. One thing other than the pizza that really stood out for me was the fact that you can watch them assemble your pizza since the oven is practically in the middle of the restaurant. I'm also happy to report that the dough is rolled out using a wine bottle, a practice that is used at Lucali by owner Mark Iacono. We get the pizza in no time, I snap my pic and we devour it. Perfectly cooked crust, delicious mozzarella cheese and sauce that my buddy and I both agreed we would drink straight up if we could. The artichokes were perfectly cooked and crisp and the prosciutto, well as prosciutto always is, was delectable. I'll go on record of saying this is in my top 5 as far as favorite pizza goes. I wish I lived around the corner but sadly live almost 2 hours away. Good thing they are only a mile away from my favorite Brooklyn brewery, which means I will most certainly be back.

Yelp
Went to Lucali's first but was too late and it would've taken four hours to get a pie or get seated. Found that this was a sister place on yelp and was pleasantly surprised about how delicious it was. We went on a Sunday evening around 6-7 and there was no wait. Pizza crust was crispy and delicious and there was a good ratio of sauce and cheese. The calzone was also really good. I definitely still want to try Lucali's but this place turned out to be great in itself.

Yelp
Ahhhh Giuseppina's. Now, I know I'm a hard-ass with my reviews. And I wanted to really like this place. But the service is pretty bad, and the pizza itself is VASTLY overrated. This is meant to be operated by the same folks at Lucali, and it has a growing fan base.... and I do not understand why. The crust is dry and too brittle, the sauce is overly salty - I left slightly disappointed and with a stomachache.

Yelp
Guiseppina's is top down my favorite local pizza spot. Their crust is thin & crispy, the sauce is pronounced, & all of their toppings are fresh and flavorful. The only reason that I am giving them a 3-star rating is because they frequently get my order wrong, especially when I order delivery. Often (and this isn't an understatement) one or more of the toppings that I order are missing. This isn't a huge deal because the pizza is so good, but it really adds up! I think they just need to read the orders more carefully and perhaps double check before handing over the pie to the delivery person.
