"Rudyard’s has served Detroit-style pizzas for years, but now Houstonians can get a wider variety of daily options at Gold Tooth Tony’s Heights, Montrose, and Bellaire outposts. Sink your teeth into the thick dough that’s a delightful cross between focaccia and sourdough, and revel in the different toppings and combinations. The 181 Heights — an ode to the now-shuttered Pi — is loaded with arugula pesto, almond, chili flake, lemon zest, and fennel pollen, while Sebastian’s Big Idea is a cheesy and fun combination of Spam, togarashi roasted pineapple, and furikake seasoning. You can’t go wrong with a more classic pie like the pepperoni. Try some of its “not pizza” items, like its pizza tots or General Tso’s chicken wings with a spicy ranch. Each slice, made of fluffy, buttered dough smothered in glistening cheese with edges crisper than a fresh line-up, could easily be a meal on their own. There are classic options like cheese and margarita, but we like to get the more over-the-top varieties, like “The Griz,” which is more like a buffalo-chicken-bacon explosion. Or pies composed of unlikely teammates like pancetta, hot honey, and fig. But the garlic parmesan chicken, which keeps a tight balance between dry and wet rub, showcases the best of what the massive wings have to offer. There are classic options like cheese and margarita pizza, but we like to get the more decadent varieties, like “The Griz,” that tastes like a buffalo-chicken-bacon explosion. And with some of the crispiest wings on the northside of Houston, we’re convinced that everything coming out of this small-but-mighty counter service joint is flawless.
