I was stressed out ordering because I was afraid I wouldn’t get the best possible thing (for my own taste), so obviously I over-ordered. To be fair I’m used to eating avocado rolls and I can eat a lot of those. The menu was impressive and I think if I could do it again I would stick to simpler rolls. I love a mock tuna. But less ingredients is my own preference. It was really great to see such a creative and exciting vegan sushi menu. For my review, atmosphere is hard to gauge because this is a to go only, pick up from a locker kitchen. There’s not really an atmosphere to be had but there is novelty in the experience. I recommended reviewing the menu ahead of time so you don’t experience the same fomo I did while ordering at the kiosk!

Google
AMAZING VEGAN SUSHI!!!! I ordered 3 rolls, KONA roll, unagi roll, and the Panama roll. They were all good, but the KONA roll was the best. I ordered it because it has thin sliced lemon on top, so fresh, so good. Definitely get the KONA roll. I was a bummed when I first showed up and realized you have to order on your phone or at the kiosk and can’t really ask anybody about the menu items or if they have a bathroom. So I sat in my rental car for 20 minutes deciding what to get from google reviews and the menu. I finally orders don my phone and it took about 15-20 minutes to be made. I would 100% recommend to order 20 minutes before you show up. I would 100% eat here again. Too bad I don’t live here. Very close to SDSU

Google
Best sushi vegan or not I've ever had, always leave a huge tip here because they deserve it for bringing such great food to San Diego 💗

Google
I ordered the Umami roll, cucumber and cream cheese roll, eel sauce, and house garlic sauce. The umami roll and house garlic sauce was the best thing that has happened to me. My total was $35 which is a bit pricey compared to other sushi places for 2 rolls that don’t have actual fish but i definitely think it was worth it and I will 100% get the umami roll and house garlic sauce. Whoever came up with this idea definitely deserves the money. The eel sauce was mind blowing, I just could not believe it was vegan. Totally worth it! Thank you to the chef

Google
I had the California roll, dragon roll, and Tina Nigiri. And as a sushi lover I can say this place is hands the down BEST sushi I’ve ever had, whether you are vegan or non vegan, you will enjoy!!! I am blown away at the flavor, and quality!! Great service also!!! This will definitely be my go-to sushi spot while I’m down in San Diego!! 100/10!!!! I’m ready to try what more off their menu!

Google
I could easily spend all my money here, and it would be worth it. Gorilla Eats is AMAZING every time! 😍👏 The tiger roll is my fave 🐅, but every item I’ve ordered has been great. Definitely a must try!

Google
Ordered from here on Uber eats. It was not clear that it was vegan. I read ever own description of what I ordered. If it says shrimp, smoked salmon, cream cheese and crab, I'm going to assume that's what I'm getting. I don't understand when vegan places don't clearly advertise. Put quotation marks or something.

Google
First time here. We got the California deluxe, Trifecta, and Umami rolls as well as the inari nigiri. Great flavors and textures. Overall excellent vegan sushi. Order in advance and pick up at the locker.

Yelp
What an Amazing find! Absolutely loved the Salmon Seaweed Poke Bowl. All vegan of course! Also got my hands on a Tiger Roll, Salmon Nigiri and Spicy Tuna Roll that my Lady picked up. Hands down best Vegan sushi in San Diego. Highly recommend ordering Togo and heading out for a picnic somewhere nearby. Food: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 | Atmosphere: 5/5 Recommended dishes The Tiger Roll, Specialty Rolls Dietary restrictions I have an avocado allergy while my girlfriend has a sensitivity to citrus. Justin was able to accommodate all our needs. Thank you

Yelp
Cant say anything about the food but we spent 10 minutes figuring out where the place was and driving 20 minutes to the place only to find out that the place is in food hall with pick up only! I wish there was a way to review it without actually leaving a review. To any reader please make sure you order ahead, they don't have dine-in at or around the place.

Yelp
I ordered delivery via Grubhub so I cannot speak to the service or seating options. However, the food we ordered was delivered on time and packaged efficiently and neatly. Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned. There were some white things in our spicy tuna handroll and I'm not sure if it was tofu added to the mix. The prices were about $16-$17 for a speciality roll and $6 for the spicy tuna handroll. Slightly on the more costly side but we felt it was worth the price.

Yelp
I waited to write this review because I really wanted to be blown away, but for the price and quality this vegan sushi doesn't come close to being among the best in San Diego. I ordered rolls that were not spicy, so that my young sons could enjoy them. However, rolls were bland (without the "sweet soy sauce) and loosely rolled. All the rolls fell apart the moment the picked them up. I was one of the first orders of the day and it felt like whoever made them wasn't trying very hard. The Yelp page says there's outdoor seating... There is no place to comfortably eat within walking distance, not even a park. Are they counting the benches that delivery drivers wait on to pick up?

Yelp
Hands down some of the best sushi I've ever had and I've had A LOT of sushi, both vegan and non! Tried the following items: Umami roll - Umami is RIGHT. This one's my #1 Panama - A close 2nd to the Umami, this one has a little jalapeño heat Yan Roll - Really tasty option for those who don't like "fake fish" Wasabi Roll - a delicious, elevated take on the Philly roll. Soooo good. Salmon and Tuna Nigiri - How do they do it? I don't even wanna know what's in this but the taste and texture are so spot on. I recommend this place to both vegans and non-vegans, alike. When I'm met with skepticism about how good this sushi is, all I can think is, "Dude, you're missing the f*** out." These people know how to create some serious flavor. Bravo.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place for a while and got to finally try it today! I never had vegan sushi before so I was really curious as to how it would taste. I got 3 rolls: Crunchy, Ritz, and Tiger. All were pretty good but I liked the Ritz the most! I reeeaally like the texture of the "salmon" and the taste of fish/salmon was there. Overall I was pleasantly surprised and would want to try their "tuna" rolls next!

Yelp
The Umami Roll has every bit of taste and flavor necessary to make you feel perfectly full and satisfied! Besides a short wait time, the sushi was definitely worth it!

Yelp
Embark on a culinary thrill ride at Gorilla Eat Sushi! The Rio Roll redefines vegan sushi - a symphony of cucumber, cilantro, and shrimp tempura, crowned with avocado and house-pickled red onion. It's a daring, taste-bud-tickling masterpiece! (Sour ponzu served on the side) The nigiri takes your palate on a mouthwatering journey, a true adventure in every bite. The shiitake nigiri is absolutely delicious flavors on flavors!! Don't miss out--this isn't just for vegans; it's for every sushi daredevil out there! The food comes in nice plating I called in to help the restaurant save on fees through 3rd party apps! The owner offered a discount for paying cash and picking up! They are also available on DoorDash, UberEats, and Grubhub! Also you can directly order through their website or aztecfoodhubsd.com website via gorilla eat sushi! Enjoy and thank me later!

Yelp
We tried the ritz roll and tuna nigiri here and both were absolutely delicious! This restaurant is a sort of pop-up/co-op so don't get confused if you don't see a sign for Gorilla Eats on the street - you're in the right place! Service was fast and friendly and our food was delicious and reasonably priced! Well made rolls and we weren't able to tell they weren't real fish until biting into the fish alone without sauce or other ingredients. The shrimp was spot on and tasted exactly like real shrimp. The salmon and tuna just didn't have the fishy flavor and were very mild in flavor, which might be a plus for those who don't like fish, but not for fish freaks like us. A very enjoyable meal and would definitely recommend!

Yelp
*The rating is for the food. I was disappointed that they are just take-out, rather than having a sit down option. (This is stated online I guess but I didn't see it on Yelp so hopefully you see it here if you use Yelp to find restaurants). The sushi was okay. The choice of ingredients as substitutes for meat were good. I just thought overall the roll was a little dry and bland. I got the caterpillar roll. I also tried the tuna sashimi and it tasted like ginger and the texture was just right. I ordered on the kiosk and it took about 20 minutes to get my food. The staff was just fine. The street was not the best place to wait. It's a slightly run down area.

Yelp
Me and my wife decided to go out for lunch with our boys and wanted sushi but not sure where. Sushi now is either good, bad or used to be good until something happened. We found this place by looking at Yelp and decided to give it a shot and it was great! My wife loves the miso soup and the sushi's we got were all good. It's a big restaurant and with all the room, it felt nice to be there. Their service was excellent as well!

Yelp
This is hands down one of the best Vegan sushi spots I have been to and I have been to a handful both in California and out. I am going to run this review Aiko N. style. Pros: - Easy online ordering -food is fresh and super flavorful -very reminiscent of fish sushi -decent sized rolls (not your average vegan/veggie sushi size) Cons: -Very pricey -additional charges for soy sauce, chopsticks, ginger, & wasabi Even tho it's pretty far, we travel for vegan food so It won't make the cons list. I do wish North County had something similar. We really enjoy the food, it's very flavorful and it scratches that sushi itch from our pre vegan days. Already planning our next trip!

Yelp
After a long day of being out with the family and having an incredibly unsatisfying dinner at a restaurant that was supposed to be good, I was hungry and tired and in the mood for something satisfying. I came across Gorilla Eats Sushi and did a double-take when I realized it was vegan! I am vegetarian and I love a good veg sushi. The menu looked so good, and I could have easily over-ordered, but I settled on two rolls - spicy tuna roll made crunchy and an avocado roll, side of spicy mayo. My order was ready within 10 mins and I had to pick it up from a brick-and-mortar version of Uber Eats (if that makes sense). This was all new for me as I'm from NYC and we can pick up food from a restaurant or have it delivered, but never had a restaurant deliver to another place and I pick up from there. Anyway, the lady was really nice and she had my chopsticks and extra soy sauce and ginger so I was happy. The sushi was SO good. It was filling, I could not finish it all, and I was tempted to wake up my husband to try it, but decided to be selfish and save it for myself for lunch the next day. Thankful I came across this place and got to try it while in San Diego!
google avatar

Sara H.

Yelp
Everything is 10/10!!! I don't know how they do it, but it's the best every time. Even delivered! I also love that they include an option on Uber Eats to tip the chef & staff. I wish more places did that. Of all the vegan sushi I've had, they are the best, hands down.
google avatar

Kristi G.

Yelp
One of my most favorite Vegan Sushi restaurants to-go!!! Everything is always very good and fresh. Tastes just like real sushi

Lynn M.

Yelp
All vegan! Which is a must for us. We had 4 different types of rolls. Three were excellent and one was good. Sadly, I cannot remember the names other than one with a year...1945? And a cucumber roll, I think. My daughter ordered everything since she had been there once before. I'm sure everything is good. Heading back there this weekend to try some new ones. Bottom line is I'm going back. Food was good. Parking was pretty much non-existent as far as I could tell. Pick up only.
google avatar

Andre Y.

Yelp
Had to visit again due to this place leaving cravings after you leave. Taste of the sushi is still amazing and fresh and still worth every penny! Have you tried this yet? No? What are you waiting for? To the owners: thank you so much for continuing to make amazing high quality delicious vegan sushi!
google avatar

Rosie W.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time. Best sushi San Diego. Big portion for the price. Wish they had a sit down location.
google avatar

Natasha Y.

Yelp
I can seriously eat here everyday and never get tired, another great dinner from here. This time we tried all of our favorites plus a new one for us..... The Caterpillar Roll, very simple yet deeeelicious. The shiitake mushroom inside was amazing and not too mushroomy ( I have a thing with certain mushrooms that I hate ) but I'm so glad they didn't cheap out and use the cheaper mushrooms like other places because it pays off to be extra.
google avatar

Angie W.

Yelp
Gross. Chewy seaweed. Fake meat. Ok which I understand is vegan but it's not good. I've had amazing vegan food. Cold sushi. Over rated. I thought seeing the reviews it would be a decent spot. Never. AGAIN. And I'm hungry too so you know the food is bad you can't even finish it hungry... wow. I'm shocked.
google avatar

Hieu D.

Yelp
I don't know why this place doesn't come up when you search Vegan on yelp in my area! Hopefully my review will help! Best VEGAN Sushi in town!! But also just straight amazing sushi on its own!! It's really a hidden gem and I'm kinda hesitant to share!! It's a ghost kitchen but don't let that fool or scare you! Order online or call and you won't be disappointed! It's a little hard to find the Aztec food hub that it's in but just map it and park in the loading zone in front when you come to pick up!! Ritz Roll all day!! Great blend of savory with a touch of sour with the lemon! It's amazing it's vegan plant based!! Other recommendations are the caterpillar, eureka roll, and crunch roll!! Tiger roll is good too if you want something with a touch of spice! I really haven't had a bad one yet!!
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
This food is amazing! Honestly the service is timely and always on time. It is part of a hub that is takeout only! But so far every sushi I've had is absolutely fantastic and you won't be disappointed!

Craig M.

Yelp
We have tried a lot of vegetarian sushi in S Cal and this was truly outstanding. Called it in and picked it up - all very smooth. Excellent prices for the quality. Highly recommend it whether you're vegetarian or not.
google avatar

Molly E.

Yelp
I was so excited to see that a new all vegan sushi spot had opened up in San Diego. I tried the caterpillar roll and the trifecta roll, both with soy paper. I loved both of them although the trifecta was my favorite! They had so many other rolls I would love to try as well. Gorilla eats sushi is inside of a food hall where you order a window and they text you for pickup. It was really hard to find the location but thankfully they answered the phone and helped us find where to order/pick up food.
google avatar

Catlin H.

Yelp
It's in a pop up kitchen near sdsu. But SERIOUSLY CHECK THIS PLACE OUT. I don't know how the food is so magical, but I'd come back in a heartbeat. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. How is it 100% vegan?!?! I have no idea but I'm so here for it.
google avatar

Jenny L.

Yelp
This vegan sushi is amazing! The unami roll was delicious and the ginger taste in it wasn't too pungent. The Ritz has a great balance of flavor, the texture taste like salmon. It was so realistic from what I remember salmon to taste like. Pricy but average of what I would to expect at an in restaurant place. Speaking of which, there is no sit down seating, take out only. It's called the Aztec hub where to pick up. Get your food at a window. There phone number doesn't work, you have to order online.
google avatar

Ro N.

Yelp
My wife and I have been trying to eat at the new food hub she went with gorillas eat sushi and I went with smash and dash. It's plant based sushi but don't sleep on it the crunchie sushi roll Wich is supposed to be tampura shrimp was good but that garlic aioli was fire I need like two of those next time the place is fast it moves like a cafeteria line I liked it. Want to try some of the more unique rolls that they have.

Jaime P.

Yelp
Seriously so good! If only I could give it more than 5 stars! I've been wanting to try this place so bad but I live in Fallbrook so I haven't been able to make it down until today- and what a treat! We ordered multiple rolls to go and they were all incredible. I liked the Ritz Roll the best, and my husband liked the Umami Roll the best. Sushi is such an art, and to make it vegan is so special. I am so grateful for a place like this- I just wish it was closer. I'm already planning a reason to drive back down.
google avatar

Justin Y.

Yelp
Some of the best vegan sushi you'll find. We ordered 4 rolls and the tuna and mushroom nigiri. All of the roles were amazing and the flavor was so different between each roll. I honestly don't have a favorite because they were all amazing. The "tuna" nigiri tasted so real, it was hard to believe it was not fish. I can't wait to go back and try other nigiri and rolls. Ordering and picking up was a breeze. I called ahead and when I arrived I told the front my name and restaurant and they brought out my food. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Liz G.

Yelp
I ordered my sushi through Uber Eats. I have had A LOT of vegan sushi in my time because it's a fave. Gorilla Eats is THE! BEST!! VEGAN SUSHI I HAVE EVER HAD!!! Take all my money! I love the combination of flavors and textures, and the presentation does not disappoint. I will be a repeat customer for sure!
google avatar

Tricia K.

Yelp
Delicious, though a bit on the spendy side for takeout. I had the Trifecta roll w. spicy mayo sauce and would absolutely order again. They're inside the Aztec Food Hub, so you can either order before you go or at the window there. Delivery or take out only.

Heather H.

Yelp
Loved it! So much great veggie/vegan sushi! All the mushroom items we got were so delicious! Will be a regular customer. Would love if they would add a tempura roll veggie vegan option with multiple veggies.

Melanie L.

Yelp
Such amazing food! Taste, authentic, great vegan sushi! Love and a hand rolls, the regular rules, everything is perfect!
google avatar

Susan R.

Yelp
Ordered via grub hub. I got a Eureka roll and a Kona roll. Absolutely delicious. The Eureka roll was my favorite and I loved the mayo and sweet soy sauce it came with. The Kona roll was also delicious with a unique lemon flavor. I'm obsessed. I can eat an embarrassing amount of it in one sitting. A must try.
google avatar

Grace S.

Yelp
It's really good for regular sushi standards, by far the best vegan sushi I've ever had. Definitely the closest to real raw fish I've had, it's pretty much like a semi-gelatin kinda texture with a pretty mild taste but it's made up by the lemon and other ingredients they use. Excellent rice texture and taste. The tempura shrimp tasted so much like real fish sausage I was surprised it was vegan. It's a good option if you're vegan but not much cheaper than regular sushi.

Julie H.

Yelp
I accidentally ordered from your place not knowing you guys are vegan! Pleasantly surprised! Lol I have always wanted to try the vegan salmon but this was more than I was expecting. If vegan sushi tasted like this everywhere I wouldn't have a problem eating it more often.
google avatar

Jeremiah T.

Yelp
The first bite of the Ritz Roll I thought to myself, "oh shit", because of how good it was. Also ordered 1985 and Kona roll - all of which were really good. The Yasai off of Convoy has always been my favorite but Gorilla Eats is sushi based and therefore has the variety The Yasai lacks. It's the closest to real sushi I've had at any vegan restaurant. It's a coop type of kitchen so there's no store front with pick-up orders only. It's a slightly strange set up but just to the left of the iPads sitting outside the sliding window is where someone will help you. Not sure what that girl from Studio City was crying about with her rating because there isn't anywhere in my beloved SF Valley that comes close to the texture and taste of sushi as Gorilla does.
google avatar

Holly R.

Yelp
I was one of those people who didn't read the menu before ordering.....however, although the texture of the "fish" was a little different than my usual salmon, I was mostly perplexed that vegan sushi could taste just like the fresh fish rolls I'm used to. The Ritz roll with lemon on top was refreshing with perfectly crispy tempura "shrimp" inside, but the crab mix nigiri was so creamy and delicious, I'm still questioning if it was actually vegan.
google avatar

Jane D.

Yelp
First time eating plant-based sushi and it tastes pretty close to the real thing. The rolls are pretty filling and portions are good. Saved some for the next day and it still tasted fresh.
google avatar

Monique L.

Yelp
Let me start out by saying, I was a skeptic about vegan sushi. But sweet baby Jesus!! I am a believer!! I was blown away by the flavors, textures and presentation. Absolutely the best!!
google avatar

Dima I.

Yelp
Ordered the Crunchy, Caterpillar, Eureka & the 1985. Fantastic! Definitely ordering from here again.
google avatar

Rebecca A.

Yelp
I used to love this place. The sushi was the best and they had a good selection of gluten free rolls. I'm gluten allergic and I was so happy that there was a restaurant that understood my dietary needs. Just made another order and was called and told they no longer offer gf items except for the California roll. Ugggh!!! I'm soo bummed.
google avatar

Doni L.

Yelp
This place is very good. Big servings for a low price. And it's fresh! The only downside is that they do not have a current restaurant location, it's located at the Aztec Food Hub. Picture a window with well, that's it. I'm not sure where the food is made? Didn't stick around to ask too many questions, my eyes were fixated on the massive vegan sushi plate. Owners are super communicative and nice. Hopes are that they'll get big enough to open a restaurant. Not too hard to take the goods to a park or back to the pad, just make sure when you call in the order that you ask for all condiments/utensils/little soy sauce cups right then and there.

Dustin V.

Yelp
Delicious vegan sushi that's so realistic I genuinely didn't know the first time I ordered. However, the Aztec Food Hub staff has gone from ok to terrible. My wife and a line of people were ignored by a tall white guy. He literally made eye contact with her and then stepped away so he couldn't be seen. That's terrible service no matter what the circumstances may have been. We love you Gorilla Eats, but the staff at Aztec Food Hub has become so bad we won't be back.
google avatar

Kristina L.

Yelp
Love this 100% vegan sushi spot! Beware, it's take-out only and they can take a bit to make the food. Order online and pick up from Aztec Food Hub. Favorites: - Ritz roll - salmon with lemon top and inside is a shrimp tempura - mushroom hand roll - yam roll My friend had the spicy tuna hand roll and said it was outstanding as well. Must try, especially for vegans and flexitarians =)
google avatar

Alona H.

Yelp
The absolute best sushi in San Diego! I always get the caterpillar roll and the trifecta. It is so much food I can usually make it last for two meals . The sauces are phenomenal as well. Definitely try their wasabi relish. Thank you for satisfying my vegan sushi cravings
google avatar

Josh Wobbs K.

Yelp
Quick review as my interaction was all through Delivery. But it came really wonderfully presented and not skimped on by any means. It was fresh and delicious. Would definitely order takeout/delivery from this Sushi Restaurant in the future! 10 out of 10. Thank you!
google avatar

Cara H.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place! Our entire family loved every roll we tried, We honestly forgot that it was vegan. This is a must try for great flavorful, high quality sushi.
google avatar

Annafel L.

Yelp
We've never been to the location and always ordered online. These are NOT your traditional vegan sushi rolls. These are way better. Each roll we've tried from this place we were never disappointed. Super flavorful, melt in your mouth, super fresh ingredients! They look so delicious and they taste even better. I really enjoyed the 1985, Tiger, California and Crunchy rolls. I can eat these everyday forever!
