Indian, BBQ, and Creole flavors all get along great at Grann - Review - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Grann is a comfortable neighborhood hangout with exciting food that will pull you in whether you live five minutes away or 45. Inside this Tacoma dining room, great things happen as Indian, Southern BBQ, and Creole dishes join forces. The result is a menu of collabs that makes you say, “Why haven’t I tried this sooner?” Tandoori ribs fall off the bone during a light breeze, puri pimento bites are a texture masterclass, and masala mac and cheese exudes richness. Besides the terrific food, it's a welcoming place for all kinds of groups. Date nights unfold facing the open kitchen, as families pile in by the front window and some folks just pop in to say hello to the chef. Even if some bites are a touch salty, and a few Cajun-heavy dishes could use a bit more Indian flair for balance, Grann is worth a visit when you're in Tacoma. Or, if you already live in the city, consider becoming a regular. What they’re doing already is something special. Food Rundown Puri Pimento Bites Start with these fun little one-bite snacks that have a creamy middle and tangy sweetness from pickled red onions. The airy puri shells give the whole thing a nice crispy texture boost. photo credit: Kayla Sager-Riley Apricot Cornbread The portion might look suspiciously paltry at first glance, but this thing is rich. It arrives warm, plush, and dripping with fruity apricot butter. photo credit: Kayla Sager-Riley Curry Caesar Shout-out to whoever gave this kale a proper deep-tissue massage. It’s tender and chewable, which is a miracle in the world of kale salads. That said, it’s a touch overdressed. Pair it with the cornbread to even things out. photo credit: Kayla Sager-Riley Butter Chicken Agnolotti The sauce is more tangy and tikka-like than classic butter chicken. With a thinner agnolotti dough, this dish could be perfect. photo credit: Kayla Sager-Riley Tandoori Rib Plate These might be the most tender and fall-off-the-bone ribs we’ve ever had. Masala Mac & Cheese No skimping on the cheese or creaminess here, which is both a win and the reason it’s a little salty. Could use a bit more masala kick, though. photo credit: Kayla Sager-Riley" - Kayla Sager-Riley

Art of the Table in Seattle Announces Long Goodbye Closing Plan | Eater Seattle

"Planned to open in 2025 in the space formerly occupied by The Table in Tacoma, this will be a Black-owned restaurant focused on Southern barbecue, creole, and Indian fusion. The project is led by chef Reginald Jacob Howell and pitmaster Denzel Johnson, who have previously hosted pop-ups around Tacoma and both have worked in catering and hospitality. The duo has launched a Kickstarter to help fund the opening." - Courtney E. Smith

Eating here is one of those experiences I wish I could have for the first time again. The dishes are so interesting, with pops of unexpected flavors and textures. Everything we tried was delicious. It really made me wish they had a tasting menu so I could just try one of everything they had to offer! The artichoke puri and softshell crab appetizers were to die for. The shrimp po’boy with pickled-then-fried green tomatoes was my favorite dish of the night… and I don’t believe I’ve ever had a fried green tomato that wasn’t a bit soggy until now… this place gets every texture on point. Every drink was excellent and exciting, with flavor combos I’ve never tried that just worked beautifully. The bread pudding dessert was mind-boggling… so freaking delicious, perfect amount of sweetness, buttery as hell. Our server, T, was friendly and knowledgeable, and gave the best recommendations. Overall we had a wonderful experience here and cannot wait to bring friends and family with us on our next visit.

Our office staff came to Grann for dinner before our annual convention. We were seated right away and drinks were offered. Our order was taken promptly and the atmosphere was high energy. One of the owners came by to check on us and introduced himself. He was very friendly. The other partner and ownership swung by quickly, but was clearly busy delivering food. Both were friendly and interested in our experience. The servers were great as well. One meal was a little slow and delivery compared to the other three at our table, but it all worked out. The chicken was exceptional. It was moist and tender, and cooked all the way through without parts of the chicken being dry. It was a huge serving and I was able to eat three meals off of the half chicken. The flavors were excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This fusion bistro is a hidden gem, truly spot on. The menu changes with the seasons, keeping things fresh and exciting. We started with the Artichoke Puri — bursting with flavor and perfectly balanced with mustard seeds — along with two comforting cups of Red Beans & Rice. For the main course, we enjoyed a half chicken that was beautifully seasoned and a Shrimp Po Boy Sandwich served with a crisp side salad. The standout, though, was the Goat Gumbo with Basmati Rice — rich, aromatic, and absolutely scrumptious. Cheers with Apple Mules; Mango Lassi Cocktail: Engine 9 IPA Beer.

Every dish was delicious! The fusion of cuisines was expertly executed and complimented both tastes and textures. Presentation added to the enjoyment of the dish. The atmosphere was lively and also intimate. Serving staff were knowledgable about each dish and made valuable recommendations. Drive from over an hour away to enjoy this food and already planning a return visit. Highly recommend Grann to anyone who loves excellent food!

Google
This restaurant is a vibe! You can tell they all love what they do. The bartenders Iker and boogie were awesome and so talkative. The entire team is friendly and interactive with everyone. The food was really good. I had the soft shell crab and it was amazing, also had the fish and grits which was amazing as well. For dessert I had the creme brulee which I usually DO NOT LIKE, but at GRANN they do it RIGHT. I felt at home and that’s what I look for in a restaurant. Do yourself a favor and just GO. You will enjoy it.

Google
I loved my food! Our table ordered a shrimp po boy, goat gumbo, crawfish risotto, fish and grits, beet butter cornbread, goat gumbo, collard greens. It was all 10/10. Can’t wait to try more items on the menu. One of the owners came to our table and talked to us. Humble, kind, and delicious flavors. I loved meeting Brianna and Denzel they were so personable.

Google
It was our first time dining at Grann... The service, cocktails, starters, entrees + shared creme brulee dessert were nothing short of amazing! We'll definitely be back to this neighborhood gem!

Google
Disappointing grilled fish– The dish looked different from the online photo, and the overpowering tomato sauce drowned out the fish’s flavor. It seemed like a Cajun-inspired attempt but missed the mark. Highs and lows in other food – The lamb burger was tasty (though the bun was too soft), and the fries were perfectly crispy with a great dipping sauce. Dessert was decent but overcooked—not quite the beignets we expected. And not the same as we had in New Orleans. See the photo with 3 items in the plate. Service & atmosphere. The hostesses were welcoming, but our server seemed indifferent. The noise level made conversation difficult, and despite only ordering mains/dessert, our meal felt rushed (in and out in exactly an hour). Sadly,we left underwhelmed.

Yelp
The food was really good and we enjoyed all the different entrees. Cornbread was exquisite and the service was on point.

Yelp
I wasn't sure what to expect walking into Grann -- the description said Cajun/Creole, Barbecue, and Indian, which sounded a little all over the map. But the owner explained that they rotate their menus seasonally to reflect their team's diverse backgrounds -- and eventually plan to feature all the fan favorites together. We happened to visit on Cajun/Creole night, and let me tell you... it felt like we'd been transported straight to New Orleans. We started with the Sweet Potato Cornbread and the Artichoke Puri Puri. As a self-proclaimed cornbread aficionado, I can confidently say this was some of the best I've ever had. They experiment with different cornbread flavors from time to time, so I can't wait to go back and see what combo they dream up next. The Puri Puri was beautifully presented -- a crisp, delicate shell filled with a cold, creamy artichoke dip that somehow managed to feel both homey and upscale. For entrées, my husband ordered the Half Chicken with mashed potatoes, and the seasoning was absolutely phenomenal -- perfectly balanced and deeply flavorful. I had the Crawfish Risotto, which is tricky to pull off well, but they nailed it. The texture was spot-on, and it had all the rich flavor without any of that overly "fishy" taste some seafood dishes have. The only miss for me was the Plantain Crème Brûlée. The flavor was great, but it didn't quite set -- more like pudding than a true crème brûlée. Still tasty, just not what you expect when you crack that top layer. One quick note about the seating: there's a long communal table in the center (a leftover from the previous restaurant) where you might find yourself elbow-to-elbow with strangers. Some people love that "family-style" vibe, but if you're after a private dinner, I'd recommend requesting a separate table when you make your reservation. Overall, though -- Grann absolutely deserves five stars. The food, the atmosphere, and especially the passion from the owner make this place truly unique.

Yelp
Great food potentials but I think it was an off night. First -- collard greens were amazing. But we were given them as a appetizer not with our entrees and we waited 30 mins for our food with the collards as the only thing to eat. Strange! Service was really all over the place. The owner is awesome and enthusiastic though. Food- Crawford risotto was good but it was something else then completely risotto which makes sense..thats okay but it didn't make me go wow! It just made go okay the texture was too saucy for rissotto! Edible absolutely, but just good-okay. Same with the Beef noodles too, the meat was overdone but the sauce and noodles we great. I was like this is good but okay! Same with the Mufaletta, that was better in execution however, it was a flavor punch and salty but it was the best of the 3 for what it needed to be. Dessert was a bread pudding with bourbon whipped cream. I thought it was going to be dreamy. It was just okay and not very flavorful and had too many burn bits. That was the biggest let down besides the service. This place can be amazing but last night it was an overwhelmed kitchen, slow staff and a half empty restaurant after the rush. Just weird but I give them kudos for their unique pursuits.

Yelp
Came here for dinner last night and our experience was so so. I will say that the owners seem very nice and hospitable. Ordered cocktails - they took 20 minutes to come after I had to ask the server if drinks would be coming soon. They came and clearly had been sitting for a while. One cocktail was watered down because it had an ice cube melting away in it. The flavors on these were okay though I wondered if they would have been different had we received sooner. When our cocktails were cleared no ask of if we wanted anything else to drink. Unfortunate because the drink menu here is different/interesting. Bene rolls - homemade dinner rolls that were pretty dry but came with this butter sauce that made them exponentially better if you dipped them. Red beans and rice - I think the beans could have been cooked down a bit more for my preference. The flavor was okay though I thought it could have used just a touch more salt. Kale Caesar - I didn't try it though my gf said it had too much dressing. The flavor was okay, she just couldn't get past how dressed it was to enjoy. Star of the show was their half chicken that we shared. Came with a nice sear and in some kind of butter sauce/gravy. Cooked EXTREMELY well. I wish it came with more of that yuca mash. It takes 35-40 minutes but it is worth the wait. We will be back here at some point to try other things and hopes that some of the hiccups during our first experience were just part of them still working out the kinks

Yelp
The Grann restaurant has to be my favorite restaurant in Tacoma right now and we've been trying to check out a new restaurant every week. We started with the cocktails, which were delicious. Then, we got the cornbread first and it was out of this world. It really could be a dessert. I loved the pairing of the butter with the cornbread too. We got the carrots next, which the chef also knocked out of the park. Lastly we got the yakamein, which we couldn't stop eating. It seemed so simple with the braised beef and noodles, but also so amazing. Once we get through our restaurant tour of Tacoma, I'm definitely coming back here.

Yelp
New place. Must visit! First things first- the staff is cool as all hell. Sitting at the bar with my niece and interacting with staff felt like I was low key at a cousins place. Everyone was cheerful energetic and talkative ( in a good way). The food was full of unique delicious flavors of India infused into country classics. I highly recommend you give them a try.

Yelp
What a wonderful restaurant in our city. The food here is incredible, and it is an honor to have something that stands out in culinary taste and presentation in Tacoma. As sad as I am that the table has been replaced, something great has started its journey and is continuing to shine in the community. We went here for our book club meeting, and dinner was impeccable. I ordered the Mac and cheese, butter chicken agnolotti, bbq fish, baked beans, and greens. When I took my first bite of the greens I was very moved and had an emotional memory, there is a connection I felt when I ate that dish with my own godfather's famous greens. That's for another story, but we loved the baked beans- so flavorful and delicious. Our main dishes were a 11/10. I cannot wait to come back to this restaurant, chef you outdid yourself! Thank you for taking a chance in Tacoma.

Yelp
We had a great time meeting up with friends and meeting the owner! All the servers and hosts were great and the ambiance is very lively (loud but not in a bad way). I wasn't a huge fan of the food, however, as maybe I had high expectations after looking at the fusion of flavors and was just imagining something different. It's not that the food wasn't good, it was great! But I didn't feel there was anything special from the Indian flavor profile. For example, the beef biryani had tiny bits of shredded beef, the Mac n cheese tasted like a good regular Mac without the Indian twist, the gulab juman beignets tasted like normal traditional flavors instead of the Indian sweet it was described to taste like. The drinks were ok. Non-alcoholic Mango lassi was watered down, the tamarind cocktail had no tamarind taste at all... Overall, it's a great place and wonderful service! But I personally wouldn't go again for the food.

Yelp
Try this place! I really enjoyed the new innovative concept of Southern and Indian fusion cuisine! Pros: the freaking smoked beef biriyani - has me thinking and dreaming and wanting to come back just to order that there and for take out. I'll take a whole skillet of this many times over! Wow! So so so good! I also enjoyed their Old Grann cocktail - play off of an old fashion. I had 3 drinks and this was by far my fave. It packed the right punch! Also had the Piri pimento cheese balls and omg yuuuuum although they looked fried- so light and airy and had a salty and savory taste with relish to give you a nice finish! Loooove! Cons: customer service was not the best. I got there early and was told to wait outside in the heat. They seemed a little disoriented but maybe because they are still new. Not all the food and drinks were great. I also asked if can sit at a regular table (no one was there) but they were all reserved. As the evening went on, one table looked open but we were not given the option. I understand that it's hard to balance. Overall- please go! This is an establishment that I hope will stay and I will try more dishes and drinks soon!!!!

Yelp
Spectacular dinner at a new spot in Tacoma. Roasted carrots, fish and grits, pani puri, and a gator burger with fries. The owners are really warm and wonderful folks and they make you feel like you are a guest in their home. It's a casual/hipster vibe and the place fills up fast. Make a reservation and be prepared for leftovers to take home. They have some creative, fresh, and divine cocktails/mocktails. Hurry!

Yelp
I really loved the menu and the concept here. It has a mix of Indian, Creole and BBQ influences. The masala mac and cheese looked really interesting but it was not available at the time. They said they keep updating the menu and will be having an Indian focused one coming soon. We got the Benne Rolls which were super delicious. The rolls were soft and fluffy, dipping them in that buttery sauce took them to the next level. Be on the lookout for their updating menu items and check them out.

Yelp
Food quality: very good and unique flavor combinations. I unfortunately just did not enjoy the flavor combinations. I would say this was a personal taste preference and nothing to do with their cooking or menu design. Service: very good! They were very patient and attentive. Atmosphere: we went on a Friday night. So it was very packed. Extremely loud. You would be yelling across the table to talk to your friend. Kind of felt like a circus being surrounded and constantly having lots of movement and noises. The design of the restaurant made it feel like noise echoed loudly and sounds bounced around. Notes: I honestly think it's just a personal preference, I think many other people would've 100% loved the food and environment. I would say if you want to go somewhere to have good conversation and don't want to feel overwhelmed by this environment maybe don't go on a weekend night.

Yelp
TLDR- 5 stars for the food, flavors, ambiance and service. Grann is a vibe! Grann is the latest addition to 6th avenue and it was worth the wait. I have been waiting for their open for months. They are in their soft opening and this is the best soft opening I have been to ever. We ordered a bunch of items to share and each one was an experience- the layers of flavors they have incorporated into each dish is next level. The mix of soul food & Indian doesn't sound like it would blend nearly as seamlessly as it does. We had the masala mac and cheese, the fried chicken skins, smoked beef biryani and the gulab jamun beignets (yes you read that right) and they are all amazing & I would order them again (but first I have to order the rest of the money). The music selection was great and the staff and owners were a delight. I honestly cannot wait to eat here again and again.

Ken F.

Yelp
Outstanding. Two things that set it apart. First, the menu, which put a unique twist on every dish. For example, the superb creme brulee adds plantain, giving it a deeper and more caramel taste than typical. Second, the service. One of their unique twists (their paprika) unfortunately made the dish a bit too spicy for a very spice-sensitive diner. The chef came out and offered to remake it, then _another_ chef came out, went over the ingredients one by one to find the culprit, and then offered suggestions on how to remove that spice on reheat .

Yelp
Think we found our new Tacoma spot for great eats! The fusion of flavors was perfect. The Sweet Potato Cornbread was tender and golden, with just the right kiss of sweetness. The Collard Greens were rich and soulful--slow-cooked perfection and the coconut took it to another level. And the Crawfish Risotto? Creamy, buttery, and quietly bold, with a crawfish in each bite. My husband got the red beans and rice and fifth and grits--also amazing. This is what you called dressed-up comfort--beautifully done!
google avatar

Orlonda C.

Yelp
Owners and staff were very friendly, chatted with our table about the food and what we liked or didn't like (we liked it all) and even gave us an appetizer to try something new. Fantastic food, interesting twist on Indian food and southern food together.

Nicole M.

Yelp
Closing at 9 means no seating even before 8:30? Please make your kitchen closing time more clear, wouldn't have driven out of our way if we would have known.

Yelp
If you haven't tried Grann - stop everything and go!! Grann is right on 6th ave, close to some really cool places in Tacoma. I can't say how happy I am with Tacoma's food scene- places like this make Tacoma so special!! The restaurant itself is pretty cool, we sat up on a high top, with a clear view into the kitchen. Grann is named after both the chef's Grandmother. The BBQ/Indian fusion is hands down- genius. You take two of the best types of foods- and it's pure heaven. Cocktail- a mango lassi- WHAT!? I shared some dishes with my friend. Started with the naan, homemade, hot, buttery- perfection. The pakora were flavor bombs with a yummy yogurt dipping sauce. We shared the butter chicken angolotti (pasta) and the shredded beef biriyani- both two of the best dishes I've had in a long time. Go support these awesome people and your mouth and tummy will thank you!!

Gene S.

Yelp
Salty fish flavored beef. You also gave me a a non alcoholic drink with booze in it. I have been sober for 30 yrs. Thanks for not caring. Who names their n/a drinks the same as the ones with alcohol in it. And yes i made it very clear i did not want alcohol.
google avatar

Mecca F.

Yelp
My husband saw there feature on Seattle Refine and decided to have our anniversary dinner. Street parking only. Reservation required for sitting with a one hour window. The layout is welcoming and inviting with great music playing creating space of enjoyment. Black owned business. We ordered the BBQ fish with greens and the lamb burger. Great customer service. A must try!
google avatar

Abby H.

Yelp
Wow. So so so delish! We couldn't decide on one thing, so we ordered multiple dishes. The naan bread was so fresh, and comes in one big piece that's easy to share. Next we ordered the pakora which had a slight kick, but the sauce served with it was a perfect compliment. The curry Caesar was good, but wished it was kale mixed with another lettuce type. The tandoori rib plate was by far the best ribs I've ever had in my life. So flavorful and good portion! Collard greens were to die for. Last was the masala mac & cheese, wasn't our fav because you could smell the cinnamon (I think) which kinda threw it off. But still 10/10 food & atmosphere. Service was also great. I'm looking forward to returning asap!
google avatar

Rob H.

Yelp
Wow! Flavor explosions everywhere here. Stopped in for dinner. Service was fast, staff friendly, the drinks flavorful and the food....chef's kiss! I had the Tandoori ribs and they were phenomenal. I could eat these again and again. Oh, the apricot cornbread was so good. It's listed as a starter, but would definitely eat this as a dessert. Definitely will be back
google avatar

Nikita B.

Yelp
Came with a large group so I was able to try a bunch of different things! My fave had to be the ribs but honestly everything tasted pretty good. The service was fast and friendly even with a 20 person group. It was a fun and different place to try!
google avatar

Yelp
I really dig this fusion of Indian, Creole and Southern Bbq. It really works, the flavors blend together with really beautiful aromatics and spices. I got the pleasure to try their grand opening menu without reservations. The service was amazing. Only had to wait about 15 minutes before getting seated. It is a open kitchen concept which i think makes the experience even better because I love watching the chefs put the food together. We ordered almost everything on the menu and the one item we really wanted to try was the tandoori ribs which was sold out. The cornbread was really good! I could eat like 10 of those. And the drinks pack a punch. The only thing was that their main dishes were a tad heavy on the salt. But I can't wait to come back and try their restaurant menu.

S F.

Yelp
I went to Grann with coworkers for the first time last week. Seattle Met had a nice write up on them so I thought it would be a good place to have a staff dinner. A fusion of Indian and soul food. I made reservations for 4 and glad I did. The place was packed on a Thursday. Not much room to move around in there. One of the co-founders came to the table, Denzel. He went into to great detail of the elaborate preparation of one of the dishes. We started with benne rolls that were drizzled with collard butter. I had tandoori pork chops with white beans. The pork chop was blah. The white beans were very salty. Two of my coworkers had the half chicken with yuca mash which they loved. The boss had the goat gumbo and couldn't get enough. This was definitely not fast food. Be prepared to wait. I am glad I picked this place.
google avatar

Maria B.

Yelp
The service is top notch and they were fast! The inside is small but pretty. My friend and I didn't have drinks because we both were driving, but we had a lot of things and they all were delicious! I'll say this: Imagine breaking up with the chef and never again getting coconut collard butter or onion confit without having to pay for it. ‍ Go check it out!

Yelp
This is so close to a 5 star that I'm sure once they get the kinks out it will be. The food is so good - highly recommend the ribs. For mains, we ordered the ribs, the chicken masala ravioli, the Mac and cheese, the shrimp. The shrimp was such a stunner- I highly recommend it. But as a whole the meal was really great, flavors were nice and overall executed well. The only issue that I could see was that service was a little slow and tbh the beignets were not good. But the service issue isn't major- I just anticipate it to be growing pains as we went when they had just opened. Overall can't wait to see this place thrive and can't wait to come back!

Thavy C.

Yelp
Great restaurant! One of the best meals I've had in a while. Husband and I ordered fried potatoes, collard greens and pani puri as appetizers. For our main course husband got the fish and grits. I got the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes. Everything was executed and done so well. Presentation was beautiful, perfectly seasoned. I wasn't a fan of the cocktails I ordered. Service was amazing, our waitress Breanna was awesome and gave us great recommendations. I love the overall flow and vibe of the restaurant. They played all the cuts! We will be back!
google avatar

Jennica C.

Yelp
Wow! I did not know what to expect when I came here. We pretty much ordered a little bit of everything and went with the servers Recs on a few dishes. We got there about an hour earlier than our reservation but they graciously sat us without any trouble. It was very busy but the service was outstanding. One of the owners came up to us and chatted and I found out about all the hidden Texas longhorns in the restaurant (I'm a Texas gal through and through) so that made it way better. The ambiance was nice and relaxing, although it was super busy it wasn't too loud. But, the food was amazing, every bite had the right amount of flavor profile, my palette was in heaven. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant hands down! I can't wait to go back and try something different!
google avatar

Kristen C.

Yelp
Had such a fun experience! We took our time eating our way through the menu! I just looked at the menu is slightly different for when I went in July. I'M EXCITED TO GO BACK AND TRY THE NEW ITEMS! Also, for reference, there were 4 adults eating and drinking. It's not necessarily a family style restaurant, but it could be and we treated it that way. We started with Pani Puri and both versions of the naan. Portions were large enough to feed everyone. We added the pimento cheese balls next... I LOVE that it came out in an even number so no one feels left out. You can tell the ingredients are fresh, they frying oil is clean, and everything is made with attention and care. For dinner we each got 1 meal and shared. The Ribs were falling off the bone. It came with a potatoes salad (my least favorite item), bread, and homemade pickles. The Masala Lamb Burg was cooked to perfection. Butter Chicken was served with a silky smooth cream sauce over perfectly cooked rice. Finally, the Smoked Beef Briyani was smashed full of flavor! We added Mac N Cheese and Baked Beans as well. In the end we did take some food home. The mix of Indian and BBQ flavors was something I was reluctant about, but IT WORKS! Everything had a nice warm spice. My friend doesn't like anything spicy, like I do, and yet we were both perfectly happy! Finally we all shared the assorted Beignets (6 minis- 2 of each 3 flavors). This was the most lack luster part of the meal. I feel like the sauces lacked the flavor punch that the meals had. It was..... fine. Next time I will try something different. We were there for a long time and never felt rushed. Seeing the fried chicken skins on the menu will be bringing me back in sooner than later!!! This place is a must try!!!

Merissa M.

Yelp
Great food & even better vibes! Tried the red beans & rice, sweet potato cornbread, fish & grits (and a few other goodies) -- everything was on point. The drinks were smooth & delicious, and the staff was so attentive and welcoming. Cozy ambiance, good music, amazing plates... definitely a spot worth coming back to!

Yelp
Nothing bad to say about this place, food, service and playlist was amazing. Definitely will be coming back to try the rest of the menu. Been what Tacoma needed!!!

Yelp
I went with two friends. The good: service was great. The other stuff: I'm not sure if I just wasn't a fan of their flavor combinations but I did not enjoy any of the dishes in particular. We tried the cornbread, fried chicken skins, fish, Mac and cheese and lamb burger. You would have thought that with this many dishes, at least one of them would be a clear hit. My issue is that both Indian and Creole cuisines are known for their intense flavors. Despite this, all of our dishes were bland (this impression was shared between the three of us) -- it felt like the food lacked a clear vision on what they were aiming for. It felt like bland food sprinkled at the end with a smattering of Indian spices and labeled as "fusion." In addition, the fish was overpriced at $40 and came with no sides - no rice or naan, just fish in sauce. We had high hopes and left pretty disappointed.

Great blend of cajun/ creole with Indian flavors. Four of us dropped in and they were able to seat us. We shared their sweet potato cornbread, BBQ carrots, and their Collard greens. We were very happy with all three. One had the Tandoori Pork Chop, one had the Half Chicken, one had Yakamein, and I had the Goat Gumbo. We all were very pleased with our dinners and would definitely go there again. Staff and service was great and the prices were very reasonable. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a great experience. Although we were able to get seated on a Thursday evening, I would suggest you call them first.

Yelp
Fantastic new addition to 6th Ave with wonderful food, drinks, atmosphere and staff. If you're wondering what Cajun-Indian fusion cuisine tastes like, you're just going to have to try it for yourself. There was no vegetarian entree on our visit so my companion and I ordered all four side items and shared. Amazingly, it made a perfect meal with the lively, complex flavors of each dish perfectly complimenting each other. The Vindaloo Baked Beans had a smokey flavor with the right amount of sweetness. Bonus points for the use of black-eyes peas. The Coconut Masala Greens were fantastic. I love collard greens and coconut but this was more than just a sum of its parts. The seasoning has a really pleasing finish. The Masala Mac & Cheese was the standout. Who knew that curry and Tillamook Cheddar could work so well together? The Coco Bread was slightly sweet and desserty. A perfect way to sop up the remaining coconuty broth from those delicious collards. Their signature cocktails were excellent. The Love Jones is their take on a Mango Lassi and hit the same spot as a Margarita. The Beyhive is a bourbon cocktail with curry syrup. Yes, it definitely works. My one and only complaint is the lack of a vegetarian entree. I loved what we ordered but I want to try something different when I visit a restaurant a second time and there's not much else I could eat. I suspect they're working on this, though.

Yelp
What you need to know... The food is amazing, it can be loud, it's a little tight. That being said, let's go back to the food! Holy wow! I like flavor, I like spice, I like comfort food. This place has an abundance of all three without being cliche! I got the bbq fish, who else even offers that?! It was cooked to perfection, and the sauce.... I have no words! I also got the pimiento cheese bites, I could have eaten 50 more! My husband said the cocktails were good, he really loved the Dark Star which seemed to follow the "unique flavor" theme. To finish off the meal we got the chef's special for dessert. Strawberry ice-cream with cognac (I think) sauce and some kind of magical mixture of crunchiness that included strawberry flavored pop rocks. Super delicious and the perfect end to an amazing meal.

Yelp
This is my experience during soft opening. My husband and I started with the salad and pani puri. While I liked the salad, the pani puri was the star. My husband wanted to play rock paper scissors for the last one, but I was a nice wife and let him have it. As a third starter we got the aloo tiki which was good, pretty similar to what you get at an Indian restaurant. For main, we ordered the ribs. They had such a distinct spice we both loved. Each rib did have a bite that was super chewy that we did not care for, but the flavor made up for it. The ribs came with a piece of the coco bread which we did not know it came with. We actually had ordered it as an additional side. Personally, I would skip it, although it reheated pretty well in the air fryer. Mac and cheese was great, it has a nice warm flavor similar to pumpkin spice. The space itself is very beautiful. When you walk in you see pictures of the owners with their families. Outside of the food, our server was helpful and light hearted. The hostess checked on us a couple times as well. Both chef owners came by to chat too. The two of us were seated at a long table at the end on barstool height chairs. I'm vertically challenged, but I made it into my chair OK. They do have regular 4 top and 6 top tables I hope to sit in in the future especially if my toddler comes along. On that note for families, I'm not sure if they have any high chairs or boosters for children. I did not go to the restroom either so I'm not sure if there is a changing table.

Yelp
It was our first time dining at Grann... The service, cocktails, starters, entrees + shared creme brulee dessert were nothing short of amazing! We'll definitely be back to this neighborhood gem!

Yelp
We put Grann on our list of restaurants to try after reading an excellent review in Seattle Met magazine a few months ago. We got the opportunity after doing a wine tasting at Browne, and realizing that Grann was only a few minutes away from there. Upon arrival, we were seated promptly in the warm and inviting space. The service was primo from start to finish- not too pushy, nor too aloof- just the right amount of attention and professionalism. We arrived early and three of us ordered from the happy hour menu and one of us from the regular menu. Because we were coming from a wine tasting, we did not dive into the cocktail menu, but we will next time- there are some enticing and interesting cocktails on the list. We started with the yummiest cornbread, any of us had ever had - it was dripping with a beet butter that defies explanation, except to say that it was sweet and rich and savory all at once. We also had an order of spiced potatoes that were crispy and soft and seasoned to perfection. Grann's kitchen wizardry shined in the sandwiches that three of us ordered- the shrimp Poboy with fried green tomato pickle and spicy sauce was spot on- our guests really enjoyed it. My muffaletta sandwich was as good or better than any I've ever had - packed with paper thin mortadella, and the muffaletta relish was epically seasoned. The red beans and rice that we got to go with our sandwiches showed true balance- it is an easy dish to get wrong, and this kitchen got it absolutely right. My husband enjoyed the Yakamein very much- a saucy and savory mix of brisket and Seafood and bucatini noodles, topped with a six minute egg - divine! Both chef's stopped by our table during our meal, and we were delighted to hear some of the backstory about the origins of Grann, as well as learning that one of the grandmothers the restaurant is named for was dining right across the room from us. There are so many more things that we want to try on Grann's menu, so we will be back with loads of people so we can have a bit of everything! Grann's is a jewel- don't wait to go!

Yelp
Delicious! We had the Creole Masala Shrimp, Puri Pimento Bites, Tandoori Rib Plate & Coconut Masala Green. The shrimp were fresh & flavorful, which the heads on and the sauce was addicting. The pimento cheese was the perfect tasty snack. The ribs were hot, moist, smoky and came with a fantastic and unique potato salad. The greens, the BEST I've had. Great drink menu too. 10/10 recommend. We'll definitely be visiting GRANN again and again.

Yelp
I just crawled into bed. I ate at Grann about an hour ago, and I hands-down have a new favorite restaurant. That creole fish was out of this world. And the beignets with the cardamom sauce, apricots, you better just shut up. I ate myself into a food coma. When I tell you, I broke the speed limit, did rolling California stops at every stop sign, and ran through every yellow light turning red on my way home, I am telling you the truth. I could not get into my pajamas and crawl up into this bed fast enough. But I texted all my besties and let them know that we have a favorite new restaurant. They are so excited to try it. Keep doing what you are doing because this was some of the best food I have had in ages. Thank you.

Yelp
My photos are not great because we were so hungry I took a photo after eating some! We waited an hour for our food and service was slow over all (expect to wait for drinks etc..) but the food was worth the wait! I felt like the food portions were a bit small but the flavor was all there. I LOVED the Mac and Cheese and Greens! I couldn't believe how small the cup of greens was though for $10! The ribs were incredible - I would recommend this dish! The Butter Chicken was a unique spin on the it - personally I didn't like it but my kids did. This is a great spot for a special meal but not a place I would just pop into casually.

Yelp
The food was seriously impressive! The puri pimento bites stole the show (go ahead and order a bunch!). The butter chicken was, without a doubt, the best I've ever had! We appreciated the warm atmosphere of the place. The bartender nailed my mocktail! Big ups to our fantastic chef

Yelp
Where to start. Made a reservation with the note that we were celebrating an anniversary. No acknowledgement of this event. Second there was two fans circulating the stale air, upon leaving the air outside was more refreshing. The ambiance was cheap at best, with plastic flowers sticking out of repurposed light fixtures from previous restaurant. (The Table). The drinks were overpriced and overpowering with no flavor (had the beehive) the breads were overpriced priced and cold (had the apricot cornbread and the Naan) the main dishes were plentiful and delicious but could tell these were not fresh so resembled a school lunch that had premade and waiting to serve. Mac and cheese was so worth it. In all, over priced for mediocre room temperature food.

Yelp
We were excited to try this place, we had frequented Our Table before and liked the space but always felt it was a little stiff. The folks at Grann really breathed some life into the spot, made it lively, chic, colorful and welcoming. I like to see a slim menu that's precise, streamlined and well thought out and Grann is checking all the boxes. Drink menu is the same, you can tell there are people with creativity and experience building the drink list. We had the Detroit Red: bold, flavorful, complex and smooth, the In Grann Fashioned: dark, velvety and strong, the Mango Lassi: thick, tart, sweet and well balanced. The food...some of the best food I've had in Washington. These people aren't playing. There wasn't one thing we tried that wasn't a 10! Pani Puri has always been one of my favorite Indian street foods, I was excited to see the Grann version and it did not disappoint. Fire!!! So flavorful and uniquely made, the crunch and the salty creaminess of the pimento cheese was heaven. It really set the stage for our entrees. When you get the heads along with your shrimp dish you know they are going to be fresh. If you're not sucking the heads you're not living. The gravy was bold and savory, shrimp perfectly cooked. I want to talk about the collard greens. The. Best. I've. Ever. Had. The coconut masala does something magical here that is hard to explain but it absolutely SLAPS! I could just eat a bowl of that and leave happy. My husband's Butter Chicken Agnolotti was creamy and tender, like literally everything else it was bursting with flavor. We finished up with Beignets and they were pillowy soft, subtly sweet with a dusting of pistachio. We wanted to try so much more but the portions sizes were perfect and we were so so full. Can't wait to go back and try every single item on the menu. All together we got: two cocktails, three NA drinks, one app, 3 sides, two entrees, a desert and our bill was 160. I think that is more than fair for what we got. The service was fast, attentive and authentically friendly, the staff genuinely seem to like their jobs and each other. The kitchen churns the dishes out like a well oiled machine, we didn't wait long for any of the food or drinks and the pacing was experienced and efficient. Restaurant and bathrooms were clean and organized. Definitely make a reservation, they get busy and for good reason! It is so refreshing to see a place like this in Tacoma. It's bold, unique, well executed but even more than that leaves you with a feeling of contentment transcending feeling full after leaving a restaurant. It almost feels like leaving a dear friend or family's house after a lively celebration filled with good food, drinks, music and conversation. Grann feeds your soul too and that's truly beautiful. In a time where countless mediocre restaurants are opening up, all selling the same underwhelming dishes, with a redundant whitewashed vibe and high prices, Grann stands out. We will be back!

Yelp
This was our first time in, it won't be our last! We shared a few different things, the grilled naan, the curry Caesar salad, the butter chicken and the greens. It was all amazing! This is food that's made with love! We wanted to try something new, wandered in on a whim....the staff was great...it's a bit loud and a bit cramped...but well worth it!

Yelp
From the moment you walk in the door you feel so welcome and there's a warm friendly vibe. The hostess was so kind and checked on us. The servers were really efficient and patient. The owners were really nice and you can tell they put in the effort to make this new spot so beautiful and special. And the food! Everything we tried was soooo good. So much flavor and you won't find these dishes at another place. My favorites were the ribs, the greens and burger. I have to go back to try more! So glad this spot has opened in Tacoma.

Yelp
Innovative, exciting menu, excellent, welcoming service and space. We've been waiting for Grann to open, and it didn't disappoint. We had the BBQ fish, masala macaroni and cheese, biryani plantains, and bhel pur, which were all delicious. Our drinks were excellent, too. Highly recommend the beyhive cocktail and the exceptional old fashioned, made with dark rum and garam masala. Exceptionally sip-able. When we return, we'll bring others and order family style. The dishes we chose balanced together well, and we had enough for at least four people. Sadly, we were too full for dessert, but a flight of beignets and date cake were on offer.
