NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"Cheesesteaks are a Philly thing—but we’ve got a couple good spots to get your fix. G’s, a Staten Island favorite, now has a fourth location (and first in Manhattan) in the East Village. They’ll have cheesesteaks, cutlet sandwiches, and loaded fries." - will hartman

G’s Cheesesteaks Ignores the Rules for the Philadelphia Sandwich - Eater NY

"G’s Cheesesteaks, founded by Giacomo Pisano in 2015 in Staten Island’s Port Richmond, has opened a new branch at 6 Avenue B, at the corner of Houston Street in the East Village, Manhattan. The venue offers a wide array of menu options with over 50 items, including a variety of cheesesteaks, chicken tenders, cutlets, burgers, appetizers, and desserts. The classic cheesesteak, priced at $16, comes on a long hoagie roll with a generous amount of shaved meat and sauteed onions, complemented by a mixture of Whiz and Cooper Sharp cheese. Other menu highlights include cheesesteak egg rolls and chicken wings. The interior is decorated with neon slogans and a jazzy orange color scheme, providing ample seating with upholstered banquettes and chairs with backs." - Robert Sietsema

Google
This place has a lot FLUFF behind it. But it didn't live up to ANY of it for me. I walked into thus place super charged ready to get my eat on. Especially after all the hype from others. Funny thing is what I enjoyed more was the extra stuff I ordered not the thing there known for.....Cheesesteaks. I loved the atmosphere in this place great vibe. They're customer service....as professional as it gets. But when it comes to the food....Houston ....we have a problem. A big one. They sell these cheesesteak egg rolls that are through roof delicious. There fries were pretty damn tasty.....the onion rings were decent. But again my problem....is the cheesesteak....I ordered what sounded like a delicious cheesesteak.... but that turned to be disastrous. It was indeed one of the worst sandwiches I've ever eaten. I think it's clear to say that as good as the side dishes were that accompanied my sandwich... I will NOT be making a return trip to G's. Thank you but no thank you.

Google
The vodka burrata was absolutely phenomenal, possibly the best chicken cutlet sandwich we’ve ever had. The vodka sauce had a subtle sweetness that paired perfectly with the creamy burrata. The bread added crunchiness on the outside, yet was soft on the inside. The cheesesteak, on the other hand, felt underwhelming in comparison and was borderline bland. To be fair though, the chicken cutlet vodka set a very high bar to follow. Although this spot is cheesesteak first based on its name, I would definitely recommend the Vodka Burrata as it is clearly the highlight of the menu.

Ordered a classic that comes with Cooper Sharp Cheddar cheese, onions of course and cheese whiz. Very delicious!!!!!! Those combinations will have you wanting more lol. Try it out and enjoy, I will definitely be making another journey to this location. Customer service bug plus as well. Thank you.

Google
Cheesesteak was good. A good mixed of cheese and meat mixed to together. My only complaint was I tasted more bread then I did meat after every bite... A little more meat to each sandwich will be perfect. I recommend G's if your in the area...not a far walk from Tompkins Park

Google
Hands Down the Best Philly Cheeseteak I've ever had. If there are any left please advise me. But Gs take the cake all the way. Great Food Great Customer Service Great Location for a late night spot after the bar. Been here 3xs already waiting for my 4th visit. You won't be disappointed.

Google
I usually get a sandwich and a side. I was expecting smaller cheesesteaks that were fine taste wise. But not only were they actually bigger than I expected, they tasted way better than I thought they would. The wings were average. I had already overate at this point. A cheesesteak and fries. 10 wings were a bit much after. I wasn't expecting the cheesesteak eggrolls to be so delicious. It's my favorite thing after the cheesesteaks. I went in thinking it would suck. The onion rings and fries are good. The smash burger fries were not really an improvement. I had it a few times to make sure. But if you just want a burger patty too, go for it. The basic smashburger is alright. It is not warm enough inside during the winter. Even if no one comes through the door for a while, you still feel a slight cold breeze on your legs. The bathroom is clean.

Google
Personally I would like to add is that the environment and atmosphere of the place is very nice good music I like the ambience & the restrooms are clean and very decorative Now onto the food they have a very excellent selection however, I was severely disappointed that they did not have the cheesesteak egg rolls because this is an area that I don’t frequent very often and don’t know when I’m gonna get back . I ordered the smash burger fries, which was decent however, it was just a lump of meat and cheese on top of the actual fries. It wasn’t intermingling per se, and I had the ribeye cheesesteak, which was good if I do return, it will be to try a chicken cheesesteak, most definitely. As for the service, the guy at the counter was very nice. However, the woman who is at the counter needs to fix her attitude. I tipped 15% on my order which means I tipped roughly over seven dollars for a take-out order and when I asked for two containers of animal sauce she looks at me and says that’ll be $.50 each is if I didn’t have the money to afford it When she should’ve seen that I tipped her over seven dollars for poor lackluster service that she provided. Which I regret tipping I should’ve only tipped 10% because that means that I could’ve afforded to get four packets of extra animal source which cost me 218 instead of tipping seven dollars +2 dollars for a animal source which means I spent nearly $10 on nothing

Google
Was super excited to come and try this place out since the location had been idle for years and they didn’t disappoint. Got a few things my favourite being the Fig Cutlet & The steak classic. Inside is very sleek and modern perfect for just grabbing a bite to go or to sit amongst friends and eat. Welcome to the neighbourhood!

Yelp
Top notch cheesesteak. Best on the seeded hero with ketchup in my opinion. Flavorful super most tender with a great bite. Milkshakes are great/standard. Fries need work, they should just do some classic ones and not the coated ones.

Yelp
The Classic Steak: 4.5-5 stars Cheese Lover Fries: 4 stars stopped at G's Cheesesteaks on Halloween night to pick up a late dinner. G's Cheesesteaks serves up a menu of cheesesteaks (beef or chicken); cheese fries; chicken cutlet sandos, burgers, and more. located in Alphabet City on the corner of Avenue B and Houston St. it's a fairly new spot in the neighborhood. the interior is colorful, well-lit, and clean. there's a good amount of tabled seating, considering it is a medium-sized space. beverage wise, there are soft drinks and several beers on tap. ordered a Classic Steak (chopped Ribeye, fried onions, Cooper Sharp cheese, Cheez Wiz, on a roll) plus Cheese Lover Fries (Cooper's Sharp cheese, Cheese Wiz, bacon crumbles over French fries). the cheesesteak is legit good and made-to-order on the grill. really thin slices of grilled ribeye steak that has melted mix of cheese wiz and cheddar cheese and grilled onions--all sandwiched up on long soft roll. honestly, the cheesesteak is excellent. you can taste grilled seasoned beef (not dry at all, full of savory juices) melding with the sharp melted cheddar, the smoothness of the cheese whiz, and the caramelized softness of the grilled onions. beyond that, the rolls is so good--it's soft yet firm and absorbs all that beef, cheese, and onion goodness. the roll has to be freshly baked bc it really takes the cheesesteaks to a higher level. the cheesesteak being made to order makes the cheesesteaks also excellent because they come hot off the grill , get wrapped and bagged, and then ton you. there's is a bit of wait bc nothing is precooked but that is also why everything tastes so fresh and flavorful. Cheese Lover Fries were good. basically it's cheese fries with bacon crumbled over it. the French fries were super crispy and soft inside. the melted cheese sauce of Cooper's sharp & Cheese Wiz is rich, smooth, and what you want smothering the fries. tbh, i am a fan of bacon (ALWAYS) but it adds way to much saltiness and kinda takes away from the goodness of the cheese fries, themselves which are tasty by themselves. between the fries getting season plus the bacon, it makes it a little too salty for my preference. if i had to order it again, i would do so without the bacon. the service is very chill and hospitable. when i was there to pick my takeout order, it was clear they were getting ready to close up but my cheesesteak and fries were not rushed or anything and the quality of it was really good. I i could feel the heat of the sandwich and fries outta the bag. it was still plenty hot when i devoured both! great addition to Alphabet City and a delicious one at that. if you're a fan of the cheesesteak and are unwilling to drive to Philly...you have a quality option in NYC.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing cheesesteak! I got the classic which came piping hot completely smothered in cheese. I love that they cooked the steak with the cheese because it all melts perfectly together. The bread also held up well and didn't get all soggy. These are definitely on par with the cheesesteaks found in Philly, just a little more expensive because it's New York. There are also plenty of tables inside with a clean bathroom and quick service!

Yelp
Best cheesesteak I've had outside of Philly. The portions are super filling too. It's so tasty and they have multiple versions. They even have a mini.

Yelp
Only giving 3 star cause I have not tried the food only the milkshake. It's very clean in there ver spacious ! The service was really good friendly fast efficient! And the strawberry milkshake I got was absolutely delicious!!!!!! I finished the whole thing in like 2 minutes loved it ! Will go back to try food

Yelp
Decent sandwich, unimaginative fries, unacceptably long wait. Don't make a group order (of any size) online, they can't handle it

Yelp
This is a great cheesesteak! It's as good as any I've had in Philadelphia, Jersey or anywhere else. Great bread, great insides. The shop is fast food style. Portions are large and prices compliment that. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a cheesesteak. We had a classic and the long hot. The long hot had sweet sausage, which gave some bites of heat and sweet. Pretty cool. The classic has whiz and Cooper Sharp. That is how you do it.

Yelp
Yum!! Excellent variety of cheesesteak hero's/wedges. Skip the egg rolls and just buy a half sandwich. Well I mean try it they are good . I had the Truffle Wiz Wit cheesesteak and it's a 8/10 it's messy and that's ok . Could have been spicier and bread should be toasted as it's very soft. I opted for truffle mayo for the egg rolls which was a smart move as I'm not into sweet chili on savory food Staff are friendly and professional. They greeted me when I walked in. They are properly trained in the front and back The restaurant is very clean the work area is very clean ( have you ever been to Chipotle or Panera? They don't believe in clean as you go). I will be back based on the vibes and to try the ribeye option

Yelp
Kids mini cheesesteak was perfect for me. It wasn't greasy (which i secretly love), the meat was well seasoned and the fries were hot! Great customer service a both employees brought me a water and complimentary sauce for my fries. Overall the restaurant was clean and had one tv playing sports

Yelp
G's Cheesesteak has seriously raised the bar in Manhattan. The truffle fries were perfectly crispy and addictive, while the truffle wiz wit cheese steak was absolutely next level creamy, rich, and unforgettable. The fig cutlet sandwich was a delightful surprise, and the Oreo cookie milkshake was the perfect sweet finish. With fantastic service to top it off, I'm already planning my next visit!

Jake G.

Yelp
Best cheesesteak in Manhattan by far...way better than shortys, olde city, and woagies. Closer in like with Federoffs in BK. Great bread and awesome cheese ratio!

Diego M.

Yelp
Cheesesteak was cold when served. Unacceptable after such a long wait! Ambiance was poor as well.

Yelp
We were in NYC visiting from Fort Worth,Tx. Saw this place online and we had to try it. The Cheesesteaks were !! Some of the best ones we have had anywhere!!

Freddyc M.

Yelp
Great food and great service. The cheesesteak was delicious and huge! I would recommend cheesesteak over chicken parm, which was nothing too special. I like that you can get a half sandwich instead of the full one as well.

Richard J.

Yelp
Nice sized tasty sandwiches! Took off a star because both sandwiches were a tad too salty! I went with the Truffle Wiz Wit and the Prime Rib Steak. Good sandwiches, but have a few gallons of water handy.

Yelp
It's hard to get a decent Cheesesteak, so I was really happy when G's Cheesesteaks opened up a block away from my cramped tenement apartment. The Cheese Steaks are pretty long, with good break - you can share it with at least one other person and. you'll both be full. I got the Onion Rings, another fast food I'm snobby about, and they were perfect as well - right amount of julienned (sp?) onions with tasty fried batter. It's not super cheap, $15.99 after tax for The Classic, but my husband and I split it, and we both eat like hogs.

Yelp
If you can manage to squeeze your eyes hard enough, maybe you can read the tiny font on the menu board. The food is decent but the ditzy cashier wear earbuds and listen to music at work so they don't pay attention. I asked someone if something cost extra..she said yes, then walked away. Like can't fully finish a conversation.

Tess Z.

Yelp
Fast, delicious, and hot! 10/10 recommend the classic steak with hot peppers, although I'm very interested in trying the cherry pepper mayo and truffle cheese in the future too.

Moonrock O.

Yelp
The classic cheesesteak is great when you're super hungry! Its a big sandwich. Fried mac and cheese bites are good too.The service was nice the workers are decent and act as if they want to work at G's Cheesesteaks. No attitude just good vibes. The place could be bigger for a more comfortable setting though, its also not a convenient spot where you can go to a nearby park or some type of outdoor setting to eat at if you're on a date and the place is full of customers, so if you was planning to eat in you basically just have to go home. 8/10

arielle s.

Yelp
I have placed 2 very large catering orders from G's and each time they did not disappoint. The cheesesteaks and sides are delivered hot, fresh and cut in half so that each person can taste everything. The cheesesteaks not only are the fresh but they are NOT SOGGY. That in itself is a craft that has been mastered. Will be catering many more times from G's.

W E W.

Yelp
Please use an unsweet marinara sauce and a better grade of Amer cheese. Meat was good but those two aforementioned elements, really changed the experience.

DJ D.

Yelp
I went here not knowing what to get or what to expect because getting cheesesteaks outside of Philly and when I heard about this place I was skeptical about about but but when I ordered and ate the food I want it go back soon

Mary T.

Yelp
Wow! I love G's! Such good food and amazing service would definitely recommend if you're looking for nice spot for lunch

Yelp
got the classic. cooper sharp and wiz is a great choice. steak is caramelized perfectly. the bread soaks up the cheese and is delicious. will be back soon. very polite staff and the place looks spectacular. kudos to the chef. dang good!

Claire G.

Yelp
I've eaten at all of the top-rated, fancy, 5-star restaurants in this city, and the cheesesteak at G's is easily in my top 5 favorite meals. I've gotten it as delivery twice in the last few weeks, and it is still fresh and hot, with the perfect amount of all ingredients. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu. I'd give 10 stars if I could!
