The Hottest New Restaurants in Queens, January 2025

"Guksu Jip is a cozy nook in Murray Hill specializing in house-made naengmyeon of the Korean-Chinese sort that’s rare in New York. This one features traditional buckwheat noodles that are long, thin, dark brown, and wonderfully chewy, with toppings that stand out like a refreshing slice of watermelon and a couple of quail eggs. Hot dishes like dumplings and soondooboo round out the menu. This spot is quick and convenient with self-serve water and banchan — kimchi, mung bean jelly, peanuts — at the back." - Caroline Shin, Eater Staff

This endless summer heatwave has me craving anything icy and invigorating—and nothing delivers quite like a steaming bowl of naengmyeon (cold noodle soup). At Guksu Jip, it's the unexpected star ingredient that stole the show: fresh watermelon slices floating in the broth. I couldn't resist ordering the classic mul naengmyeon, while my friend went for the spicy bibim version. The main difference? The spicy one amps up the heat with extra cabbage, a hearty meatball, and a sprinkle of pine nuts. The broth is a revelation—deeply flavorful yet incredibly light and refreshing, with a perfect balance of salty, sweet, and umami notes. I leaned into the savory side, but my friend swore by the subtle sweetness. It's delicious straight from the bowl, but a splash of vinegar and a dollop of mustard (both on the table) takes it to euphoric levels. The buckwheat noodles have that signature chewy bounce—satisfying without being gummy. If long strands aren't your vibe, they provide scissors to snip them down. Just be prepared for the earthy buckwheat taste; it's an acquired charm for some. The toppings were hit-or-miss: the beef and meatball felt a bit dry and tough, so I'd happily skip them next time. Cucumber, radish, and half a boiled egg were fresh and crisp as expected—solid but unremarkable. But the watermelon? Absolute game-changer. Juicy, peak-season bursts of sweetness that cut through the savory broth like summer in every bite. I devoured my slices and eyed my friend's bowl greedily; it's the combo that makes this dish unforgettable. Pro tip: Order at the counter upfront—they hand you a number card, and your steaming (er, chilling) bowl arrives at your table shortly after. Hit the self-serve station for banchan like punchy kimchi and creamy macaroni salad (both stellar), plus water, utensils, and to-go boxes. One caveat: They only accept cash or Zelle—no cards—so come prepared.

Love this place. The food was delicious. Even all the banchan is prepared perfectly. Especially the bean sprout dish was so good. The cold buckwheat noodle soup is my old time favorite. I love the noodle texture and the flavors. Freshly made vegetable dumplings are so yummy too. It’s a tip free restaurant.

There was a lot of noise about this restaurant in Flushing online. At first, I didn’t think much of it, but as soon as I had friends not living in Flushing wanting to go, I knew I had to come try it. When I walked in on a Saturday lunch, it was packed and there was a line, which is not unusual, but still says a lot about a restaurant. Fortunately, we didn’t wait too long. The overall atmosphere is homey. It’s not the most beautifully executed, but I imagine this is what a Korean mom with no official design background would design it as. It evoked a sense of warmth, maybe because the lady taking the orders was also very sweet. The fact that it’s very affordable and has a no-tip policy was a cherry on top. There is a self-service station for water and side dishes. The kimchi, bean sprout salad, and macaroni salad were all delicious (I didn't try the radish salad). They served our dishes to us, which was surprising because there's a pick-up station. I suppose that's because that area could get crowded and cause issues? The timing of the foods was off, which was a bummer. The beef noodle soup came out first, but we weren't hungry because of the tasty side dishes. The Beef Noodle Soup was beyond my expectations; it was so delicious. I can't describe it well because it's been a while since my first visit, but it was amazing. The Marinated Grilled Pork Jowl was juicy and tender, and its spice sprinkled on top gave it a good Yanbian kick. The Signature Cold Noodle Soup was also good. It's a Yanbian-style cold noodle, so it might be a love-it-or-hate-it kind of dish for some people. On my second visit, there was no wait since it was an early weekday dinner. I ordered the Spicy Mix Noodle + Mini Katsu set menu, and it was so delicious. The Mini Katsu came out first, perfectly golden and well-fried, and the side salad was great for cleansing the palate. On the first bite, I was shocked by how good it was. It had a nice crisp and was perfectly thinly coated, and the meat was easy to bite into. The Spicy Mix Noodles weren't too chewy, and the sweet and spicy flavors were just right. I was honestly surprised by how great this set was. I was also surprised by how clean the bathrooms were. At this point, are there any problems? This is the kind of restaurant that I'd want to visit once a week. If I lived closer to the area. I hope more restaurants like this pop up in NYC.

Overall atmosphere is really nice and the service there is top tier. The portions of the food is pretty good and above average for how much food you get for the cost. The price of the dishes are really good and really worth it. Unlike other restaurants, you pay at the front and then sit down and wait for them to bring your food but they leave a sign when you enter saying no tip which is a bummer since they’re so nice.

After blowing up on Tiktok and see it on my FYP all the time, I dragged myself all the way out to Murray Hill to try out the cold noodles here. This casual Korean restaurant specializes in noodle dishes, and are well-known for their cold noodles. I came on a Friday for dinner and it wasn't busy at all. My friend and I got their signature cold noodles, soy cold noodles, and galbi. They have a self-serve banchan station that had high-quality and fresh ingredients. The signature cold noodles was delicious, came with lots of toppings, and amazing broth. Their soy cold noodles were good, but I think it just wasn't my kind of thing. And, their galbi was good but we were left a bit disappointed as the meat pieces came out in small chunks and was a bit dry. Overall, it was good but I don't think it was worth the hype or trip out if you live in the city.

I'm a huge fan of Korean naengmyeon and wanted to give this place a try since it has raving reviews. I came with a group of 4 and waited about 20 minutes to be seated because the restaurant was busy. The hostess ended up moving a table of 2 to get us seated sooner, and we were very thankful. This is the type of restaurant where you order your meal before sitting down. Water and kimchi/banchan bar are self serve. The meat dumplings (mandoo) were delicious. The naengmyeon is pretty good. We tried the special spicy cold noodle soup, non-spicy cold soup noodle, and spicy cold noodle (no soup). The flavors were good. I'm not sure the special cold noodle soup is worth it because it mostly tasted the same as the non-spicy cold noodle soup, except it was spicy and comes with 2 small meatballs. I'm also not sure what I feel about the watermelon slices. While unique, I think I prefer Korean pears. This is purely personal preference. All in all, definitely worth a try. I recommend coming during off hours so you're not waiting too long for a table or for the food to be served.

Google
Okay, I’m a gooksu (noodle) fanatic. This is my honest honest review. (Also ethnically Korean). Have bookmarked this place for the longest time.. was super excited to know they make their own noodles in house. First off, realized the place is small self service type, lots of young people sitting around.. I understand the appeal… The side dishes (fresh kimchi, radish, bean sprouts, Mac salad) all A+, was given a thumbs up from my 65+ year old Korean parents .. so that means it’s GOOD. Now, to the noodles. I wish they could show a glass see-through to see how they make these noodles in house.. that would truly make it so appealing but no it’s all hidden in the back. Eh which is fine, just my own opinion on that. Different noodles are made, normal wheat noodles and buckwheat nengmyun noodles and I’m sure some more? Didn’t try others though. I got the bibim-nengmyun. The Noodles were WAY too overcooked that there’s literally no texture 😞 it was melting in my mouth, I was so disappointed, but not only that the flavor of the bimbim sauce wasn’t great… 👎🏼 My mom got the special mul-nengmyun, the noodles were cooked better and I tried them and it’s okay, but the broth was NOT good 🤢 however my mom did finish the dish, so it may be a personal preference.. but it’s not a traditional mul-nengmyun flavor.. which I get, it was their “special”. My dad got the meat-broth noodles, the broth was good, kind of like sulongtang bone broth soup, the wheat noodles were NOT good… the same with my husbands seafood noodles, the noodles are like eating overcooked Italian spaghetti and putting them in broth, didn’t absorb any flavor of the broth, bland… the texture was NOT it. With those broth, you should do kalgooksu noodls tbh 🤦🏻‍♀️(however my husband did enjoy his dish so it may be a preference? But he’s not Korean mind you haha) My sister (who’s not a noodle person) ordered their donkatsu…. Love that they have options for non-noodle people👍. However, The Katsu was very flat which means high chance of it being overcooked and dry… TADA, it was bone dry.. and unseasoned.. and they could’ve have gotten away with it had they given some more Katsu sauce but there was barely any sauce on it…. Again another disappointment. 👎🏼 So ALL IN ALL, I understand why young kids go here… it’s very school lunch vibes, but if you want good quality food esp for what you’re paying… this is not worth it 😓 will not be coming back. 3 stars given for the banChan quality and potential of the idea but execution was poor…. 😞 I still recommend you try it once? I hate writing reviews and tell people to never visit a small business restaurant, I recommend trying it for yourself.. also, I can’t speak for their other dishes like stews, dumplings, Kalbi, etc.. maybe that’s why people go there? There must be a dish that’s good and worth eating! and hopefully they receive my review as constructive criticism.

Didn’t expect much when meeting up with a friend for dinner here. A very unsuspecting restaurant that I pass by on northern all the time BUT GO INSIDE! Amazing place for handmade noodles. The noodles are flavorful and bouncy. You know the food is good when you don’t need to touch the condiments. Self serve banchon, also delicious! Prices are so fair!!

Yelp
My friends and I were in the area looking for food, so we decided to give this restaurant a try. The woman manning the front was very friendly and could speak Mandarin and Korean! We placed our order at the counter and paid upfront. The banchan bar and beverage station were self-serve. The banchan options were kimchi, peanuts, and pickled radish in beet juice, so not a lot of variety but still appreciated. Beverages included hot barley tea. We also received complimentary tofu with hot chili sauce. I didn't like the savoriness of the cold tofu, but the thought was appreciated. The menu had a few items that spoke to me, including some set items. I decided to be adventurous and ordered something I've never had: The set of ground soybean stew and mung bean pancake. I usually love Korean kimchi/vegetable/seafood pancakes, but I wasn't a big fan of the mung bean pancake. It tasted very healthy, which is great if that's what you're going for, and not crispy enough. The ground soybean stew surprised me. It was very flavorful but I was thrown off by the thick and coarse grounded soybean texture. It took a few bites for me to get used to it, but it made me feel full. I appreciated the side of steamed white rice, which went perfectly with the stew.

Yelp
Came here with my dad for lunch - the self-service bar had yummy sides, drinks and addicting peanuts. The self-serve is nice because it takes away the necessity of tipping. The noodles were good as well! The broth was refreshing especially because I was feeling under the weather. The noodles are house made and fresh! The ambiance is chill - it's clean, calm, and has cute additions such as crocheted flowers at every table.

Yelp
Self serve with tea or water (hot or cold), utensils, banchan (peanuts, konjac? jelly and kimchi (was on the salty side)), condiments, and even takeout containers. Since it's self serve, you can just leave your finished bowls on the table, no tips necessary! There are quite a few tables and counter seating. You order at the register and the staff usually brings out your food to you. The Spicy Cold Buckwheat Noodles were not too spicy, with good flavor. It was a decent size for the price, and I was full when I finished the bowl. Make sure to really mix it up and get that delicious marinade on everything! It comes with a refreshing vinegary soup on side. You can pour it into the noodles. Enjoyable place for cold noodles. No thrills spot worth checking out.

Yelp
I think only the Signature Cold Noodle Soup stood out. The place was self service, so no tipping and you pay upfront. You grab your own utensils and kimchi. They even have peanuts and acorn jelly. Only the salted peanuts were good. The menu was pretty limited, which made it easy to choose. I had the Corn Noodle Soup ($16.95) to myself. I was really anticipating a hint of a corn taste to the noodles, but I tasted none. The noodles were just yellow. As a result, this was nothing special, although the bowl was huge and had me full. Their Marinated Grilled Beef Short Rib ($22.95) was well seasoned, like skewered beef, but definitely not worth it. I had better Beef Dumpling ($14.95), these were just plain. Maybe I would come back on a sweltering hot day to enjoy their cold noodles, but the rest of the menu was just ok.

Yelp
I found this place on TikTok video about refreshing summer bites. It was definitely refreshing indeed. Location is a little out of the way from flushing. It's a self service restaurant where you order and pay in the front (no tips signs all over the restaurant). The side dishes and water/tea are also self service. There's 2 different banchans: kimchi and acorn jelly? There's also roasted peanuts. I really like the self service type of atmosphere. We both ordered the C1 signature cold noodles and it was definitely refreshing. There were still chunks of ice in the soup. The watermelon was a great touch and actually really sweet. I like the chicken balls and the quail eggs. It wasn't bad and my friend enjoyed it. I think personally, I'm just not a fan of cold noodles in general. It's definitely one of the better cold noodles I've had though. Overall: great self service restaurant to grab refreshing cold noodles on a hot summer day
google avatar

Karen S.

Yelp
Quick fast and like others have stated, self serve place. Ordered their cold noodles and it did not disappoint! (Especially on a hot summer day) Flavor was a little more mild than a lot of places but they are legit. The tofu appetizer ! I wish they sold that but with brown sugar ginger sauce instead like the Chinese tofu dessert. No tip necessary as a few signs state.

Yelp
Bookmarked this spot after browsing a food delivery app when I was craving naegmyun/Korean cold noodles one day (it was closed during the time, unfortunately). Got to try it in person and really enjoyed the casual atmosphere. As others mentioned, you order up front, and then everything else is self-service (they have signs noting so and mention that there is no tipping needed. The free self-service station is towards the back with hot tea, a water machine, side dishes/banchan (kimchi, peanuts, and acorn jelly). The section is also where you'll find utensils and add-on condiments. The staff interaction is pretty minimal (which I enjoy very much as an introvert), but they're very polite and welcoming. We ordered their signature cold noodles (comes with small packaged yakgwa dessert) and their bibim guksu/spicy mixed noodles and had a fair amount of their side dishes. We were highly satisfied! They included a small plate of their handmade tofu as well, which was a treat. I believe their noodles are also made in-house, which is always neat to hear. The portions were big and the flavors were refreshing and deep, but not overpowering (I've had noodles that were sometimes too vinegar-y, sweet, etc).

Yelp
Amazing food! We ordered the spicy cold noodles and the fish row hot stone rice. The buckwheat noodles came with so many vegetables and eggs! The flavor was amazing and perfectly balanced. The fish roe was very savory and came with aged kimchi. The service was excellent! It was self service area so no tip needed! The staff still brought out the food to our table and helped us with the menu. The place is very casual yet welcoming. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Tasty noodles and especially refreshing on a hot summers day when you're craving any type of cold noodle. Love that they have self-serve banchan which include kimchi, roasted peanuts, and konjac. I think I got full off the banchan only lol. The noodles are made in house and come out quickly. I like that the cold noodle dishes come out with a nice slice of ripe and juicy watermelon. Their appetizers/side dishes are okay; my group and I were not a fan of the sweet and sour pork. It was too breaded for our liking and did not have a good balance of the sweet and sour flavors.

Yelp
Ate here today for the first time with my mom and cousin to try this place out. We all had gotten first the curd tofu, then different types of cold noodles to eat individually and finally tangsuyuk to share together that it tasted super good and delicious. The service was also really good and attentive that it's definitely self-service. We couldn't agree more. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time! :)

Yelp
Cute little spot that's pay first and self service kimchi / banchan. I think for the decent prices (no tips needed) the food was delicious and I would definitely come back. Star was the signature naengmyun. The watermelon might seem odd but worked surprisingly well with the broth. Would come back for this and try their other dishes as well.

Yelp
Finally, a no frills Korean noodle shop with a clean and simple menu. A tiny eatery nestled between giant flashy restaurants that needs no obnoxious neon signage or icicle lights to make up for its culinary shortcomings like its neighbors. I love the menu. Simple ingredients, expert execution, and reasonably priced. We ordered the bibimbap and spicy cold noodles. I would've liked the noodles to be spicier but it's like spicy/sweet. Bibimbap comes out in a hot stone bowl so the rice stays crispy. Their kimchi is self serve and it's young kimchi! Snappy with a tiny bit of bitter, made in house. Kimchi was probably my favorite thing to eat there. The best part is they do not accept gratuity! This probably means they're all earning a decent livable wage and I fully support this.
google avatar

Becky W.

Yelp
The spicy cold noodles are ok but the true star is their fresh in house tofu appetizer with this spicy savory pepper soy sauce. Forget the cold noodles, just give me a big bowl of that tofu with that well-seasoned sauce. The other free appetizers (kimchi, peanuts, konjac) didn't really stand out. The seasoning for the cold noodles was ok- just tasted of pepper and lacked depth. The noodle texture was excellent- great bite and a smooth flavor. I liked the self service station- it reduced the need to call over the waiter for stuff like water, tissue, banchan, takeout containers, utensils, etc. Everything was already there-super convenient without a middle man

Yelp
A staple cold noodle spot for NYC summers. Friend and I shared the signature cold noodle and pork jowl bbq. DELISH. noodles were fresh and paired well with the pork. Hit the spot on a blazing hot day. Love the nutty flavor too in the cold noodles. There's also a self serve banchan station in the back. The owners were sweet and welcoming. Plenty of seating as well for groups. 10/10 would come back again.

Yelp
Food was plentiful and filling. Unlimited kimchi and tea which you can get from the back (self service). No tip required either. The woman working there had interesting attire as well which ties into the nice experience. Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Viona C.

Yelp
Marinated pork jowl is good too! The spice that comes with it doesn't pack a lot of heat and should be tolerable for most, but makes all the difference elevating the flavor of the meat. Perfect crisp and fat to meat ratio. Beef noodle soup was way better than I anticipated. The broth looked so simple, but had so much depth.
google avatar

Yelp
Unassuming Korean cold noodle spot that was unexpectedly really good! I personally don't like the dark noodles in my Korean cold noodles but these freshly made noodles hit different. Flavorful broth and the bibim cold noodles were yum as well. Definitely recommend getting the beef (galbi) dumplings and sweet sour pork. Really delicious. Nice casual place to grab a meal since its self service and no tipping. Wish more places did this! Will be back again for sure.

Yelp
What a great addition to the neighborhood! Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly staff member who explained the menu to us. The restaurant offers cold noodles, stone rice, steamed dumplings, and special meat dishes (similar to the ones you could find at Korean BBQ places). The restaurant is self-service, so after we ordered up front, we took a seat. While we waited for the food to come out, we helped ourselves to the complimentary drinks (hot and cold water, hot tea) and kimchi, which were placed in the middle of the eating area. Conveniently, plates, utensils, napkins, and to-go containers were also placed there so we grabbed some before heading back to our table. When the food came out, we were so excited! The food looked amazing. We got their Spicy Cold Noodle (C3 on the menu, pictured below) and Marinated Spicy Pork Jowl. The cold noodles were perfectly chewy, and so so flavorful because of the amazing sauce, which was sweet and spicy. The addition of toppings (watermelon slice, radishes, sliced beef, cucumbers, two quail eggs) really completed the dish for me. The pork jowl was wonderful. Upon biting into my first piece, I could tell it had the right amount of crunch and bounce. Not mentioned, it was perfectly seasoned. Both dishes were delicious and well portioned, and we enjoyed our meal. I cannot wait to come back soon to try their other dishes (and devour a bowl of their cold noodles and plate of pork jowl again). The restaurant is currently in its soft opening phase, so definitely stop by and support their business!

Yelp
Was looking for a place in my neighborhood for cold noodles on Yelp. This is a delightful and unassuming little noodle shop. It's self service but has everything you need, including a few bonchon items, hot tea and sauces. There is someone there if you need help. She is very friendly. You order the noodles at the front and help yourself to the kimchi and tea/water. Grab your sauces and utensils and you're on your way to enjoying the fresh noodles and cold broth. Simple, refreshing and delicious!

Yelp
The signature cold noodle was not good. It looks pretty and social media blew it up and I am disappointed. They also have self serve kimchi and acron jelly which was also not good. I did get the pork Jowl and that was good. The corn noodle soup was also meh.

Yelp
It is not authentic Korean food. It is not my kind of Korean flavor and overpriced for that simple noodles with no taste. The rib bibimbob has just 3 or 4 little tiny pieces of meat in it. If you are Korean, don't waste your time and money, you know it tastes weird.

Yelp
Nice spot for a refreshing noodle in cold broth or cold dry noodle. I would recommend giving this place a try.

Yelp
"Self service" restaurant meaning you get your own water/tea, plates, and banchan. Great concept as you don't need to tip! Got the signature cold noodles, tobiko bibimbap, and short rib. The cold noodles were so refreshing and the tobiko bibimbap was perfectly salty from the eggs. The short rib did not come on a bone which was surprising, but was still tender. Overall, great place and I would return to try their hot soup noodles

Yelp
This restaurant is worth a repeat. The cold noodles are well made with good texture and the toppings in it are abundant. I also like the soybean cold noodles as well. The bibimbap comes with a soup and the rice is very very crispy with lots of toppings. They make it better than surrounding Korean restaurants. The tofu is my favorite dish. The owner is very nice and gave my baby a small toy car. If you're craving healthy, clean food, this is the place.

Yelp
Super fresh, delicious, modern Korean restaurant. Had the bibimbop with beef, grilled pork jowl and the special cold noodle. Perfect for a summer day. Very clean place, brand new. It's self service for sides and tea and you pay first which honestly is nicer, makes it faster and more efficient. Highly recommends

Yelp
Disappointed with the quality and quantity of food. I ordered a beef bibimbap and cold buckwheat noodle to go. When I unpackaged the bag, I was surprised to see that spicy cocktail sauce was missing along with the mustard and vinegar sauce for the noodles. I was also shocked to see how little of food they gave. The beef bibimbap came with 2 little strips of beef and few vegetable assortment packed with white rice. It was felt like it was a serving for a child. Definitely not worth the $18 it was priced it at.

Yelp
During summer, I always look for cold noodles near me and I never really had a good option before. Until now!!! Guk su jip is by far hands down one of the best naeongmyun with buckwheat organic noodles I've ever had. What I like about these noodles is that it helps me to digest easily and I feel very nourished after the meal. Highly recommend Guk su jip as one of the best noodle spot in Flushing.
