"Hae Woon Dae is a longtime Atlanta favorite for Korean barbecue, using traditional wood charcoal. Head up Buford Highway just outside the Perimeter to Doraville for table side platters of grilled meats, such as charbroiled spicy pork, short ribs, or marinated rib-eye bulgogi served with a side of kimchi, dumplings, or Korean pancakes to round out the meal. Open late, closed Mondays." - Candy Hom

"We can’t really imagine ever turning down an invitation to sit around a fire and grill meats, especially if several hours of drinking beer and soju is involved. Which is why it will never be a hard sell to get a group to go to Hae Woon Dae. They use actual charcoal in their barbecue tables, making the restaurant a little smokier than most other spots that have electric instead, but their beef short ribs and pork belly taste all the better for it. They’ll also make you wear a festive hat while singing “Happy Birthday,” which you’ll pretend is embarrassing, right up until you try and get them to do an encore where you rope in all the tables around you." - Neal Cohen

Traditional KBBQ!! It was amazing. Female founder taught us about the food and it was so delicious. One of the only traditional places around. Short ribs and spicy pork were amazing!! Definitely go!

Google
Still the best Korean restaurant in Georgia. Most authentic. Family owned by a Korean family. Grandma is cooking in the kitchen. You know it's good. Blew my husband's mind. I have been going here for 30 years. Came from south Korea and had to find a place close to home to serve my cravings. If you come and they are empty- sit and be prepared to have a chef curated personalized meal. Being the only few in the restaurant, gives the sweet family time to teach you about Korean food and how to eat it. A true Korean restaurant where burping is a compliment to the chef.

Google
Life changing. My wife brought me here and I have been to several Korean restaurants but this one is truly authentic. The family owns and runs it. They show you how to properly eat Korean food. The food is absolutely amazing and everything down to the Korean bean paste is made in house. It is a hole in the wall and has been there for 30 years. If you want real Korean this is the place.

Google
Please try this place! There are no bells and whistles and they don’t need all that. It’s like eating at grandma’s house. Food was delicious, service wasn’t just good service- they took the time to talk to us and educate us about traditions and food. Such a charming place and it is worth every penny! It’s not all you can eat meat. It is good quality homemade food that is way better than the all you can eat style spots! Can’t wait to go back.

Always a pleasure to come to Hae Woon Dae! Very authentic flavors and a friendly service. Thank you for always feeding us good.

Visited a week ago and was empty on weekday dinner, but I decided to give it a try. Food was okay, some were great and some are just average. Definitely overpriced. Banchan were great since they’re homemade. They made everything homemade and rarely changing everything for the past 30 years which probably suits older Korean better than younger generations or new customer. Decor was outdated and things are looking old. I love mom and pop shops but i hope they could change the price, menu and cater to a broader market

Unfortunately, my experience tonight was the absolute WORST!!!!!! Although the food was on point EVERYTHING ELSE regarding my dining experience was absolutely HORRIBLE!!!! From the moment I walked in the door until I left the lack of interest to deliver even decent service was NON EXISTENT. I watched other guests dining in receive decent service, greeted almost immediately once seated, order taken within a reasonable amount of time, receive their food in a timely manner, server checked on them, and the server engaged in conversation with all the other guests. I was stared at by staff in the kitchen as well as guests as if they had never seen a black woman before. It was a wait before I was greeted at the table , it was a wait before the server took my order, it was a wait to receive my appetizer (kimchi pancake), and it was a wait for my entree (duck) It was just a VERY underwhelming experience. I have eaten here before however, did not receive the type of service I encountered tonight. Very disappointed. I endured the extreme sub par service because I knew the food would be great however, I can say because of the service received tonight it will be hard to go back! Very unfortunate.

I was Sunday years old when I learned how to enjoy Korean BBQ. Our server/hostess, Jessica Cha, recognized my errant ways and commenced to teach me how to enjoy Korean BBQ. She even made my first couple of bites. After that, I was off to the races. The food was amazing. We had the beef bulgogi and the short ribs. If you are looking for amazing food and a pleasurable experience, I recommend dining at Hae Woon Dae.

Yelp
I've been coming here for traditional Korean BBQ for 20+ years. This place is the OG in Atlanta! Food and service are 55555! Kimchi is fresh, and the meat is proper!

Valerie Y.

Yelp
I was really hoping for a great experience since this is an older place and unique b/c of the charcoal grills. When we came in at around 11PM, the restaurant was empty so we were seated and served pretty quickly. Out of the banchan, I think my favorite was the kimchi! We ordered Galbitang, Chadolbaegi, and Samgyeopsal. I thought the Galbitang was the best thing hands down, I loved the taste of the broth and the amount of galbi inside. I was not satisfied with the KBBQ especially because of the price! We got a pretty measly portion - only got a couple pieces of samgyeopsal for nearly $40. Personally didn't think the charcoal grill justified the price of the bbq :(

Yelp
The inside is pretty no frills - no gaudy decorations or loud music. It's a simple spot with good authentic Korean food. Didn't try the barbecue and prices overall weren't an amazing deal but the sides were good enough and the entrees were definitely authentic. Would highly recommend the pancakes, they were made really well and all of the soups seemed really tasty. Service was really quick and I'd definitely be back to try their take on other dishes.

Yelp
During a recent wedding weekend, my friends and I found ourselves at Hae Woon Dae not just once, but three nights in a row, and for good reason. This spot, without a doubt, serves the best Korean BBQ in Atlanta. We were immediately blown away by the food, particularly the kimchi and the Jeyuk Bokkeum (spicy pork). The kimchi had just the right balance of tang and spice, while the pork was tender, flavorful, and packed with just the right amount of heat. Each dish felt authentic and perfectly prepared, capturing the essence of traditional Korean BBQ. What really made our experience stand out, though, was the outstanding service provided by JC. Not only did JC ensure we were well taken care of each night, but she also brought a great sense of humor to the table, keeping the energy light and fun. She made sure our group never ran out of beer or soju, maintaining a steady supply that kept the celebrations going. By the last night, JC surprised us all with Hae Woon Dae t-shirts to change out of our wedding tuxedos, a thoughtful gesture that added a special touch to our weekend. If you're in Atlanta and looking for an exceptional Korean BBQ experience, Hae Woon Dae should be at the top of your list. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Seriously some of the best Korean bbq I've had EVER!!! Not only is everything made in house but it's made with love the owners came out and cooked for our table chatting with us telling us what to eat together giving us extra bites of stuff to try. The meat was super great quality and the marinades accentuated it just enough while not being too overpowering or too sweet!! The variety of seasonal banchan where some of the best and most unique I've tried ( kkakdugi was probably my favorite) I eat alot of Korean food and this place speaks for itself, the price might be a bit more than other "commercialized" restaurants but it's extremely authentic and has soul. without a doubt worth a few more dollars and it's only made better though the experience and kindness of the workers treating you like family. Can't believe I haven't been already but I certainly WILL BE BACK

Jen H.

Yelp
Annoyed this place has such a mediocre Yelp rating because this place was legit. Open super late, banchan was authentic and delicious, food was solid, and the service was wonderful- even super late night! The place is charming- no frills, some might call it outdated but all I saw was a place that was established. Can't believe I was almost deterred by their current star rating ‍‍

Yelp
Overall ok place that's open late. If it's 11:30pm, I'd honestly would go to thrill kbbq in Sandy springs instead next time and wait until their midnight special if it's a Friday/Saturday bc it's $28/AYCE per person. This place was $32 for maybe 5 oz of meat per portion of brisket or bulgogi. $42 if you want to get a portion of kalbi. I'd return if it's the only place open and get maybe their tofu soups instead for $14. Service: Greeted immediately upon entry. Our server was really friendly but clearly overworked and voiced it loudly. I do like that they cook the meats there for you. On a late Saturday around 11pm, I saw about 4 employees. Food: Good flavor and taste on the meats and banchans but I cannot justify the price. The meats are grilled on charcoal so it does have a great smoky flavor but that's it. The kimchi is really good here though. Price: $32 for bulgogi and $32 for brisket EACH PLATE. Pictures attached. Pretty good and tasty quality brisket but dang, put a lil more than just 10 thin slices! Not sure how the owner sleeps at night knowing how small their meat portions are. Bulgogi was a little more acceptable size compared to brisket but still ridiculous. Ambiance: 90s vibe for sure- hasn't been updated since 2000 probably. Old school. 2000s music videos playing (Britney spears).

Zac E.

Yelp
A great experience. The restaurant is very true to the owner, and speaks volumes about her dedication to cuisine. It is a true home-cooked meal that tastes great and soulful. The kimchi is hands down the best kimchi I've ever had, it is so fresh with a delicious bite and depth of flavor. I had the silken tofu stew, piping hot and a perfect portion. Really down to earth place with a very cozy aesthetic. Feels authentic, and tastes that way too!

Yury S.

Yelp
This place is simply amazing! Best korean bbq in Atlanta and maybe on the east coast! The kalbi on the real wood charcoal is the best!

Andrew H.

Yelp
This is one of the best KBBQ restaurants in the southeast, a little-known jewel in Treasure Village. I have been coming here for years. Cha is amazing, always gracious, kind and fun to talk to. The sides come quickly and there are always plenty of them, almost always fresh and delicious. The Kalbi is to die for, grilled at your table on the classic charcoal table grill. Then you can combine with rice and make lettuce wraps with soybean paste, kimchi, and your choice of grilled jalapeños and/or garlic to create one of the most delicious wraps you've ever put in your mouth. I crave this restaurant, literally wake up with cravings. It used to be open until like 6am, but those hours have recently changed. Still open till late tho. Please, don't ever close!

Randy O.

Yelp
4 of us went here after a Truist park concert ending pretty late, but great news! This place stays open until 2am daily. We were excited and hungry. The restaurant was a hole in the wall with outdated decor, but the food was so tasty and delicious. We had Korean bbq and tofu soups around midnight. Very surprised and happy they were opened. Prices pretty reasonable and we'll be back.

Dan Z.

Yelp
It's been a bunch of years since I've been here...was a favorite late night stop before Korean BBQ got even more popular and "Supersized". Ambiance may be a little stark and bright or just outdated but the service is very personal and helpful. We got seafood for protein which was cooked great on our personal table grill with the hot coals placed in right before cooking. All the sides we're good and of course we had to get some 'dry' Soju which always goes well with the meal! Prices have gone up, so it's hard to justify frequenting more often. However the total experience was good!

Ben D.

Yelp
Hae Wood Dae has been my favorite for more than a decade. I've tried other Korean Barbecue places, but I keep coming back here. the owner makes the seasonal banchan herself, and here kimchi is wonderful. and to have the meat cooked over charcoal at the table is far superior to the gas cookers at other places. It's not fancy, but it's excellent. Don't sleep on this place.

Josh W.

Yelp
3.5 stars is exactly right for this place - high end decent food. I'm rounding up because I was able to get a hot meal at 11:30 PM. I just asked what was good/popular, and got Yuk Gae Jong, but asked for the spice to be medium. Kind of a tofu and beef and noodle and mushroom and whatever soup. It was the right level of spice per my request - note the menu says "very spicy" so I appreciate that. It came with a nice bowl of rice and some bonchon. I would've probably preferred to do Korean barbecue but they require two people to order that, so I kind of got stuck in the kiddie pool (one of the tables without BBQ hardware). Anyways, this was fine for a time of day when I didn't have options. I'd say 3 stars during the day, 4 stars after 11 PM.

Ashley C.

Yelp
Easy to find, parking is plenty, decor is older. The service was good, prompt and just enough attention. The food: Banchan was solid, side dishes were seasoned deliciously. Kimchi pancake was delicious! Crispy with the perfect amount of savory salty and sour from the kimchi. Sauce wasn't even really needed to go along with it. Galbi was solid but for the price you can get better elsewhere. Plus the portion was smaller. Bibimbap was below average, the veggies were seasoned well but barely any meat and lots of lettuce which felt like a filler. Overall I'd come for snacks but for Buford highway eats and nearby Duluth I'd go for Korean bbq elsewhere for quality of meat and price. The whole meal ended up being close to 70$?! For that price I was expecting more.

Yelp
I got takeout from Hae Woon Dae in May 2020 during covid lockdown orders. It was a Friday night, and not many of Buford Highway's restaurants were open. I was thankful to find Hae Woon Dae open and placed my order when I arrived. While waiting, I noticed how eerie it was to have the place so quiet and empty. There was one group dining there. This did mean that my food was ready without delay (though it did take 15-20 minutes to be prepared). I can't remember everything I got, but I know that I ordered loads of food and it was all delicious. We were having "Korean" night for our at-home date night and feasted on the food from Hae Woon Dae while we watched Parasite the movie. It was really fun having such a variety of foods. I'm pretty sure I got the japchae, some short ribs, I think a fried fish, some marinated chicken, and probably at least one other thing. Then of course there was the banchan (complimentary side dishes). Everything was excellent and we gobbled up as much as we could, but we were thankful to have leftovers because that meant we could eat everything *again*! I'm a big fan of Hae Woon Dae and highly recommend the food. They were a great takeout experience, and the staff was friendly and welcoming when I interacted with them.

Yelp
This is one of the old KBBQ joints in Atl. Everything about this place is old. The parking lot is old, the décor is old, people eating here are old. I'm not a KBBQ connoisseur but I can tell the difference between charcoal and gas grills at least. I judge my KBBQ by quality and price. The quantity is unlimited of course. None of the sides stood out. The only thing I remember about this place was how old everything was. Would I come here again? Not really. For beginners to KBBQ, there are newer places that have young friendly waiters and kpop music on the walls. For the KBBQ fiend, there are ones that have better service, bonchon, and price. Just because this place has existed for a long time doesn't mean it's the best. There's too much competition now and there's really not a huge incentive to come here.

Shea C.

Yelp
My husband and I have come here every week since we've been dating. Cha makes all of the dishes you will get from scratch. Her food is wonderful. Every time you try something new. She puts so much love and care into her food and years of knowledge. If i had a last meal it would be here. I cannot recommend Hae Woon Dae enough.

William B.

Yelp
amazing late night spot. could not possibly recommend any higher. truly phenomenal. Food is great. People working there are funny. Great atmosphere. One of a kind. worth the drive from anywhere in the city

Chelsea L.

Yelp
I got an enjoyable meal here and the service was great! My friend took me here and explained this place as an old resturant with good prices. We ordered the vegetable and seafood pancake. The seafood pancake was a little undercooked but the vegetable pancake was good. The banchan was average and the kimchi was a different flavor than I'm used to. We also got beef and seafood soup and they were pretty bland and had no flavor. The bulgogi, spare ribs, and pork belly we ordered were good but I was disappointed with the pork belly. I was hoping for it to be thick pork belly but they gave us thin ones. They also cook the food for us. Overall, the service here was good but I would not come back for the food.

Kaung S.

Yelp
This place definitely deserves a higher rating than its current Yelp average. I was somewhat hesitant to go at first, but upon hearing favorable experiences from a friend who went there regularly, I gave Hae Woon Dae a shot. Glad I did, and will definitely go back. Down the hill and towards the back of a strip along BuHi. Kinda hard to miss from the main road unless you went looking for it. Plenty of parking spaces. Interior is definitely 90's date, and while the building has a boring vibe, the customers and staff keep it more lively. Even on a weekday night, there were a few large groups already there when we arrived for dinner. The server was very nice, and even taught us a few Korean words during the night. Food itself was great though not quite amazing level. Started with seafood pancake, which was full of greasy goodness. Dip it in some of the brown sauce they give it, and it tastes even better. Good variety of banchan. For a party of 4, we went with 3 BBQ entrees: regular bulgogi, brisket (Chadol Baegi), and pork bulgogi. The first one was OK, and definitely needed dipping sauce or the thicker bean paste to give it flavor. But I really enjoyed the latter 2. Spice on pork bulgogi wasn't even that high, so maybe I'll ask for more heat next time. Flavors were juicy, meaty goodness. I think I do prefer the coal flavor of cooking the meat v. a gas burner. I also like that our server did most of the cooking instead of me trying to guess my way around how to work everything. Oh, and they give you rice or lettuce to go along with the meat. The reason it's not perfect is because the portion sizes are a bit small compared to other BBQ places. So for the price you pay that starts a $23, not the best value. I felt satisfied after everything was gone, but certainly not full. That said, I would gladly come back next time I felt like BBQ and don't want to drive up to the Duluth area.

Jasmine H.

Yelp
Literally the best ‼‼‼ They were the nicest ‼‼ The food was GREAT‼‼ they were cooking like a 5 star Michelin‼‼ she taught us a little about the culture

Matthew Y.

Yelp
Tofu soups is 4 stars, the BBQ meat is 3 stars (it's not bad, but definitely one of the worst I've had in Doraville/Duluth since there's so many good spots). Service is always nice, but they burnt the meat and it can be extremely slow sometimes. Its main perk is that it's open very late.

Yelp
**WAITRESS TOOK FOOD OUT OF MY SPOUSE'S HAND!!** Visited today after reading reviews. A short time after my spouse started eating, the waitress stopped by the table and said that the food wasn't a taco. My spouse had placed his pork, veggies and rice in the lettuce and folded it in half. The waitress took a lettuce leaf out of the basket and picked up my spouse's spoon and started digging in his plate. He told her he was good, but she kept on trying to show him. Then she actually took the food out of his hand and started folding the lettuce so the juice wouldn't drip out of the back. We were shocked that she was handling his food after he said multiple time that he was okay. My spouse lost his appetite and did not finish his food. We thought the pork bulgogi was a little over priced at $29. For the amount of food on the plate, I thought it would have been fairly priced at $18 $16 for Dolsot BiBimBop $3 for dumpling appetizers that were greasy. The Dolsot BiBimBop did not have a good ratio of veggies to rice, lots of rice and very little beef, very little. My spouse paid for the food and explained that he did not appreciate her handing his food with bare hands after she had been going from table to table waiting on her customers. Will not visit again.

M O.

Yelp
Last two times I came to get Korean BBQ and they didn't have lettuce wraps. This place used to be amazing and I'm sorry to say the quality is suffering since "Asian John" took over.

Antiwan T.

Yelp
I have been going here for 20 years and this is still my favorite Korean barbecue experience. I know some people will say the exterior and interior decor will distract them. But this food is so authentic. This literally like being in Seoul, Korea. Please don't come in thinking that you're going to get this big hunk of meat that you would get at a steak house. This is not that. What you will get is the perfect bite in each lettuce wrap you make with ban chan thats at the table. I guarantee if you make the wraps you will be full as a tick! You gotta order the the seasoned kalbi on the bone!! Or the seasoned pork. I love everything on the menu! 20 years of being consistent is no easy feat! I love this spot!

Emilia N.

Yelp
HWD is our go-to Korean BBQ spot, even during COVID times. Yes, they are open for dine-in! I would just make sure to call first before you show up to make sure they are still open, because I think their hours can vary day to day. As far as pricing goes, sure, it might be a little high for the portions, but what I like about HWD is the consistency. You can always count on the food to be delicious. For 4 adults and 1 child (that doesn't eat the meat) we find that two platters of meat, two orders of jap chae plus the banchan is just enough food for us. During these times we like the support smaller businesses, so we will continue patronizing HWD as long as they are open.

Andrea B.

Yelp
This place has been here for a long time. I definitely expected a little bit more from the food but it was not bad. The portion of the pork belly was honestly too small, it was a few thin slices that were more appetizer size than dinner size. The service was ok, we told them 10 & they sat us at a table made for 7 max so we were very cramped :/

Lauren P.

Yelp
This is where you should be going for a Korean BBQ experience that has kept itself relevant in the Atlanta area of almost 30 years!! This location is open until 6 AM and treats you to a traditional take on Korean BBQ. There's even a section for parties of 5+ to sit on the floor, cook and eat. One of the waitresses, Cha, is a part of the family who owns Hae Woon Dae and really went out of her way to show us how to authentically enjoy this meal. She made recommendations that combined popularity with tradition, and even built my first bite to show me how it's done. It's tucked away off of Buford Highway just enough where you can barely see their entrance from the street, and it is completely worth the drive out of Atlanta!

Parker R.

Yelp
Good but not outstanding is how I would describe my recent visit to Hae Woon Dae. Located in a barren strip mall, we were a little concerned we may not be at the right place but once we walked through front door we were consumed by the sweet smell of Korean BBQ. The server promptly took our order of ribs, pork, and beers and delivered hot coals/charcoal to our table grill. The meat was prepared table side and grilled to perfection. It was flavorful and was accompanied by bibb lettuce and multiple kimchi's which were also delicious. Although food was tasty I'm giving this establishment 3 stars for the following reasons: -service was ok but we had to request what we needed when we needed it -portion size of the entrees were a little on the small side for sharing -atmosphere was unique but could use a bit of a cleaning Hae Woon Dae was good and I would recommend it to my fellow Yelp'ers however I'm looking forward to trying other places for Korean BBQ.

Belinda B.

Yelp
Parking: private/plaza lot, free Location: just behind Checkers Timing: open pretty much all night until the morning so it's convenient if you're up all night and need food Kbbq and other Korean dishes available, comes with the typical Korean side dishes Food is not bad, I haven't tried kbbq here. I'd go here if I have after hours cravings because it's one very few places that are open after 2am. On the pricier side, perhaps. When you walk in, there are some medium sized tables, tables to the right for larger groups and on the left, there are seating options for more intimate seating Service: I came during off hours, so during that time, I'd say it's pretty good. They're friendly, nice, and check up on us to make sure everything is good. FYI, don't expect a detailed receipt.

Jonathan G.

Yelp
DO NOT EAT HERE!!! Their prices are ridiculous and their food is not good!!! My friend and I sat down and looked at the menu and saw short ribs were $30 and pork belly was $26. We thought the pricing was a bit high but guessed that maybe the quality was extremely high. NOPE. The short ribs that came out was barely enough to fill half a plate, and the pork belly only came in 5 (FIVE!) very thin slices ($26 for 5 pieces of pork belly that were thinner than bacon you could buy at Walmart!) This place is a complete rip off!! Their items are way too overpriced and the quality is average at best. If you want kbbq in doraville go to miss gogi instead. You can get unlimited kbbq there for the price of one small plate of short ribs here...

Nannette P.

Yelp
Very disappointed. Portions are small. The meat was microscopic. My husband ordered shrimp fried rice. He got 4 pieces of shrimps and they look lik new born shrimp. The waitress is rude. Not coming back here.

Ernest C.

Yelp
This is a great place for Korean BBQ! Love the ladies who run this place. They always are so sweet and always willing to make you a satisfied customer! Excellent variety of Korean side veggies and kimchi! Love !

Cory B.

Yelp
You wouldn't believe our night if I told you. Suffice to say that my hopes were not high when I saw the place upon arrival. If not for a special lady named Cha, I'm afraid I would have been right about this place...but I'm glad I wasn't! Highly recommended if you are up at a weird time and have a need to eat Korean + watch alluring foreign pop music videos...all in a random strip mall 12mi outside of ATL

Nancy S.

Yelp
They had 1 employee working only. We didn't get our food until an hour and 50 minutes after being sat down. There was another woman who did no work the entire 3 hours we were here. THEY LEFT THE RAW MEAT OUT on a table next to us. There was a bug in the food. This place was a disaster, don't waste your time.

Queenie D.

Yelp
$23 for an entree to grill. Must order two to use the grill. = $50 give or take for TWO meals. OVER PRICED, UNJUSTIFIED, DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT. HORRIBLE - tor that much, there was HARDLY any food. The meat was something like 8 oz per entree. WHAT?? for that much?? it comes with lettuce and a bowl of rice. Granted there's your usual trimming of kimchi and radishes, but dear, we are NOT impressed with all of that - that comes with any kbbq anyway. But what I just couldnt wrap my head around is the portion of the food for the amount we paid. ugh!!!!! Kimchi fried is rice is acceptabe at about $10 for a plate of it. Another $8 for two orders of fried dumplings. Now, calculate that and thats a pricey dinner. There were four people, and we thought that for the price of the entree, we will be able to get a decent amount of food, but boy what a rip-off. Considering that AYCE kbbqs in Duluth can be found at $26 per person on a weekend dinner, this place is TERRIBLE. I guess if you have never experienced kbbq before, you may think this place is pretty cool. But there is nothing about this place that is worth my time. The taste wasnt even all that!? I am just glad I had great company and still was able to enjoy our time, but man ... Also, servers were not at all friendly when we asked for seconds on the little side dishes and service was almost non existent (granted there was only 3 servers in the entire place on a Saturday night and there was a huge party next to us - bleh.) The water tasted straight up like something from the community pool's toilet, and a CAN of soda (no refills ofcours) is like 2 bucks each. WTF?? Fellow yelpers, yall really brought me down this time.

Yelp
To be honest, I don't know where to go for Korean BBQ when it's Chamblee/Doraville. Duluth still touts more offerings like Breakers, 678, Iron Age, Honey Pig, the list goes on. So when my husband's cousin was in town visiting, we wanted to take her to get Korean BBQ without having to drive all the way to Duluth - granted, it's not THAT far, but it's still a trek. Someone in our group suggested Hae Woon Dae - which I've heard before but never been. This place was empty on a Saturday night, which generally isn't a good sign. The next thing was when we ordered galbi (short rib), it wasn't the typical galbi with the bone in it. We had to request them to bring us the pieces that had been attached to bone. The banchan here is ok - it wasn't wow but ok and not the worst I've ever had. I find it really hard to want to come back here despite an ok food experience. The serve was ok, but we were one of the few groups there.

Yelp
I was visiting Atlanta and got in pretty late to find barely anything with decent reviews was open. I found this place online and it looked promising. Extremely authentic and delicious Korean food. Staff is friendly and by the time I arrived to pick up my food they had it waiting for me in a huge cardboard box! There were so many extra sides and unlike the other reviewers, I felt I got my money's worth. I got the Bibimbap and the Bulgogi. I would definitely recommend! It seems to also be a pretty safe area which is a plus for a late night eating spot.

Yelp
The price is wrong at this place! We ordered bibimbop and bulgogi tonight and were shocked at how small the portion of the bulgogi was. It was over 50% onions and some tasty beef pieces. But it was not what I expected for a Korean bbq. The meat was served in a light sauce, like a gravy. I'm sure this place has good food, but you can't charge $29 for an entree and have customers still leave hungry. Ugh.

Yelp
I was excited to get back to Hae Woon Dae because it was the first Korean BBQ I tried and after trying new ones, I was excited to see if it lived up to what I had experienced around town. Hae Woon Dae is more traditional in the sense its low key in ambiance aka, it doesn't really have any. It's very unassuming from the front and funny enough I took pictures inside similar to my visit from 5 years ago and they looked the same! While we were in there it was pretty quiet and I think two other groups were in there. They were playing K-pop on the TV. Customer service was great. We were greeted right away and the food came out pretty quick. And by food I mean the banchan which is by far my favorite part of Korean food. We were given Kimchi (3 Stars), potato salad (3 Stars), radish (4 stars), fermented seaweed (4 stars), bean sprouts ( 3 stars), and some other greens which were the best out of all of them. We also were given rice and a bowl of greens along with soybean paste and sesame seed oil mixed with salt and pepper. Out of three of us two ordered the BBQ , Bul Gogi and Pork Bacon. There is not all you can eat option here folks so order wisely. The Bul Gogi was delicious and it was a nice portion size to share. The pork I believe was half frozen so it didn't really have the best flavor as it cooked. Some onions were added with it but it was just okay and a smaller portion. My third friend ordered the Bibimbap which he enjoyed and our server even came over and helped him stir it up, which was a bit funny. The grill is a charcoal grill and no fancy updraft system. The best part of Hae Woon Dae is that is is open late night, so if you are out an about and want some late night Korean food, you have this option on Buford Highway. Overall I enjoyed getting back here and would recommend it if in the area.

Yelp
This place has the best Korean bbq I have ever tried! It has a cult following and it's well deserved! Everything I've ever tried has blown my mind!!! The bulgogi is spectacular and the spicy cucumber that is served as a side...has stolen my heart!!! The only reason I took a star away is bc there was only one person doing everything (hosting/serving/cooking) on a Saturday night and the service was not great. But with that said...the food is so good that I can oversee this! Get some extra help bc there is no reason this placed shouldn't be packed all the time!

Yelp
My brother wanted to take me out for my birthday. I've only been to one Korean BBQ joint in the Atlanta area and really enjoyed the experience there, but my brother wanted to take me somewhere different. We have a Korean friend that highly recommended this place. My brother made reservations on a Saturday- 7:30 p.m. It wasn't so busy but I'm still glad that he made the call just incase. We were seated right away. Hae Woon Dae BBQ is Simple Korean BBQ stop offering meats for tableside grilling plus other classic dishes for those of you who don't know. Here is what we ordered: -Kimchee Jun $14.95 -kimchee in special Korean style pan cake. -Cha Dol Bae Gi $14.95 -unseasoned wooden charbroiled beef brisket. -Short Rib BBQ $15.95 wooden charbroiled whole beef short ribs marinated in Korean sauce. -Pan fried tofu with spicy sauce- pan fried tofu with soy sauce chili dressing -Order of Lime Soju (served in a tea kettle). Can I say that my favorite was the pan fried tofu with spicy sauce? The best appetizer I've ever tried!! We had the option to grill the BBQ ourselves, but to play it safe, we had a server grill it for us. PERFECTION!!!! The brisket and short rib bbq was cooked to our liking. We had the side dishes (of course) to go with our meals. Kimchi, Sprouts, Pickled Vegetable, Iceberg Lettuce, Korean fish cake, and more.... I really liked the service, atmosphere and food!! I highly recommend coming here.

Yelp
Hae Woon Dae has always been one of the best Korean BBQ experiences on Buford Highway. The woman who owns it is super sweet, and always makes sure to help out with new (white lol) customers that aren't experienced in how to "do" Korean BBQ. The food quality is always 10/10, and I highly recommend the spicy cold noodles as an appetizer to share before the meats come out. It's delicious, made from scratch, and so much better than the spicy cold noodles at any other Korean restaurant I've been to.

Yelp
Excellent and underrated Korean BBQ. I can see where they could get swamped easily with 2 people visibly working, but we had a wonderful experience. Food was delicious, and service was great!

Yelp
Good place. It's sorta hidden but it's open late! Cha is the greatest server- and she is the highlight to the meal !! So funny, accommodating and sweet! She's 5 Stars for sure! The food is good but not great for the price. It's pricey. The beef, chicken and pork at good. The sides are good but nothing is awesome or amazing (except the few sides like Kim chi, squid/radish etc). Still 3 Stars. Check it out!

Yelp
This was our third time experiencing Korean BBQ. The people here are extremely friendly and happy and excited to teach newbies the correct methods for a delicious experience. We got the beef and the pork and both were D E L I C I O U S!!! We also got the dumplings as an appetizer and they were amazing! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
The place was deserted for lunch on a Tuesday- my colleague who is Korean had to try and find the hostess multiple times to get our service started. Maybe we came in too early...despite being during their posted opening hours. I ordered Galbi Jim (if I remember the name correctly)- It was a sweet stew with lots of very tender short rib pieces. You must eat this dish with lots of rice, because the stew is cloyingly sweet. Banchan were average, nothing exciting. At around $10/dish for lunch, it's an affordable option/alternative to Don Quixote next door.
