Happy Crab - Review - Ballard - Seattle - The Infatuation

"An Auburn-based Cajun seafood boil restaurant will soon take over a massive location overlooking Shilshole Bay. In addition to the signature jovial shellfish, look for Chinese dishes like xiao long bao and hand-torn noodles. We’re especially curious about the latter, since they're from the same owner as the excellent Xi’an Noodles. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Gabe Guarente

Great food but weird menu. Onion rings come with French fries? Service was abysmal. 7 in our party and everyone's meal came at different times. My crab cakes came after all my fellow diners were done and I had stuffed myself with more French fries than I've ever seen on a dinner table. They were good but not what I was thinking of for an entree. I asked the very nice server what was holding up my meal and she said they were short staffed. Understandable but the place was empty. Who knows? Will try them again in a few months once they've worked out the service kinks. Want to see them succeed. Oh, incredible views of course.

We had high hopes for this place but was disappointed. The food was just okay - oily and salty. The boil was made with frozen seafood not fresh ones.

We stopped by around 3 PM on a Monday and were surprised to find the place almost empty—just a couple of people enjoying the outdoor seating. The building feels brand new: spacious, modern, and honestly much more upscale than I expected. The views are stunning. It was a gorgeous day, and the sunlight reflecting off the water made the whole experience. We tried the seafood boil and pork bao—both were delicious. The menu was limited when we visited, but that’s likely because they’re still newly opened. One unexpected highlight? The bathrooms. Seriously—floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall white. So bright and clean, it almost felt futuristic. And the little robot that delivered our food was a fun touch! Our server was brand new (first day!) and getting training from senior staff -- they were super attentive and kind. He did great! We visit Seattle once or twice a year, and this spot is definitely going on our regular list.

I love Happy Crab for its food, service and atmosphere. The most beautiful views and generous seafood serving. Had the boil with lemon pepper boil. Mango bingsoo delicious also! My second time since their soft opening. Love the free parking!

Frozen everything: onion rings? Rubbery. French fries? Dried out sticks. Shrimp? Rubber bands to be flung. Green mussels?! Great as rubber bands to reinforce the flowered blowing outside. Nothing was fresh. NOTHING! The only redeeming value was our server. As an Asian visiting this spot: offended! Avoid!

I have been craving a good seafood boil in Ballard and I got so lucky to find this spot! The seafood was so good. We also tried the pork xiaolongbao and those were pretty yummy too! The view of the water is beautiful, it’s so cozy and warm inside too. Loved it and will be back again ❤️❤️❤️

Went with family during soft opening and was very impressed. The restaurant is spacious and clean with lots of seating and great views of the sound which will be great from the outdoor patio seating in summer. The food is very good too. I love that they also have Chinese dishes like XLBs and noodles, etc. all the dishes we had were very good. The Cajun seafood was very good. The waiter and staff were all very nice and attentive and we were never waiting on anyone. There was a very small mishap with an order which is expected with soft opening but the manager still brought us extra seafood to correct for the mistake and even gave us extra seafood to say sorry. The manager was also very nice. It’s a great addition to Ballard golden gardens and will be awesome during summer. Great place to visit with groups and family so yall can share Chinese dishes along with Cajun seafood. Also, parking is really plentiful as well. We are definitely going to return.

From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting — you can tell this place takes pride in what they do. The staff greeted us with genuine smiles and made sure we were comfortable right away. The service was quick, attentive, and friendly throughout the entire meal. Now, the food — wow. Everything was incredibly fresh and full of flavor. We ordered the seafood boil with crab, shrimp, and clams, and it was hands down the best I’ve had anywhere. The seasoning was perfect — not too salty or spicy, just the right balance that keeps you wanting more. You can tell the ingredients are high quality, and everything came out piping hot and perfectly cooked. The portions were generous too, so you really get great value for the price. I also loved that the staff checked in a few times to make sure everything was perfect without being intrusive. Overall, Happy Crab lives up to its name — great food, great people, and a genuinely happy vibe. This is definitely my new go-to spot for seafood. Highly recommend to anyone who loves delicious, fresh, and flavorful crab!
