Acclaimed Chef Brian Malarkey Opens Hawkeye & Huckleberry Lounge in Bend - Eater Portland

"Chef Brian Malarkey opened Hawkeye & Huckleberry Lounge in Bend, Oregon, serving wood-fired pizza, steak, burgers, and more in a 'modern cowboy' themed restaurant. The interior design reflects central Oregon, featuring canvas tents and a strobe light mimicking the moon. The menu includes locally sourced beef, Columbia River salmon, and various other dishes. The restaurant also offers a range of drinks, including Oregon-sourced wine and beer, cocktails, and mocktails. The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, with reservations capped for two weeks." - Rebecca Roland

Best Dishes the Eater Portland Team Ate This Week - Eater Portland

"If you’re wondering what a rhinestone cowboy looks like, look no further than Hawkeye & Huckleberry Lounge in Bend. Those who are familiar with celebrity chef Brian Malarkey will recognize him from food TV where he’s known primarily for his San Diego restaurants; Huckleberry represents a sort of homecoming as he returns to celebrate his family ranching roots in Oregon’s high desert. The space is a reflection of Malarkey’s flamboyant personal style: During my visit, I witnessed sharply dressed bartenders in cowboy hats alongside bejeweled cattle skulls and a cocktail dressed up with a disco ball wearing a pink cowboy hat. It’s a lot to take in. While the vibe was fun and a little playful, the food stood out. During my meal, my dining partners and I got to sample a full range of the menu from perfectly smooth and fluffy butter potatoes to a bubbly margherita pizza that’s heavy on the oregano to a crispy pork belly with grilled peaches and punchy sliced and pickled Fresno chiles. The most eye-catching moment of the meal was a malt liquor-battered mushroom which came out crispy and flared like a piece of coral. Of course, one really cannot leave the restaurant without some beef. Sourced locally, ours came out tender and perfectly cooked to medium with an intriguing addition of anise flavor to the spice mix." - Eater Staff

Walking in the atmosphere is warm and inviting with a modern country flair. Soft lighting is everywhere with comfortable seating both inside and out. A small play area for the kids and fire pits for the adults outside. Food was only okay with sub par quality other than the steaks. Potatoes tasted old, and appetizers were dull. Drinks were good, if you could get one. Service was friendly but out of cadence and just OK. Lots of staff moving about yet no one to take orders or refill drinks. It's still kinda new and may just need poor management kinks resolved. Prices are high for the value. Parking is terrible and unavailable without crossing a busy street. Lots of room for improvement to make this place awesome!

We went here to celebrate an anniversary. We were able to snag a reservation about 5 days out. We were seated quickly and our server was great. The service was quick! All of the food we had was amazing! The cornbread was to die for, as well as the filet mignon and chicken. We had lava cake for dessert and left very full and satisfied. The decor and vibes were awesome. We had a ton of fun!

New favorite restaurant in Bend! Although pricey (think special occasions) and not nearly enough parking (be a gentleman and drop the ladies off at the door; you’ll have to hike for a spot- ugh). The food…magnific 😘 who knew the combinations could taste good together! We went for Valentines Day Dinner and their fixed multi course menu was delicious. Can’t wait for another special occasion. I can’t imagine you’ll be disappointed.

My husband and his business partner made reservations 2 weeks in advance. We were celebrating a successful year! We arrived on time only to wait for a table to free up which feels like what’s the reservation for? Four of us were seated at a round (I’m guessing) lounge table? That’s really only big enough for two, especially if you are ordering food. Not too mention we made DINNER reservations not BAR reservations!! It was a very uncomfortable spot, bar chairs way too high for comfort and shorter women lol, as I pretty much needed a step stool and I’m 5’4, and the table had no room for our plates and drinks. Not too mention the women at the table had nowhere to put there purse. I had to set my beautiful Michael Kor bag on the ground by my feet. NOTE to all you ladies who read this, don’t take your nice handbags. Also the music was extremely loud we couldn’t even talk to each other without yelling and I still had a hard time. And the waitress we had took my order and the other couple’s order and walked away so my husband never even got to order what he wanted. So he ended up eating off the tomahawk ( that was ordered for us all to share) and some of my food. Also, the tomahawk was a rip . It’s supposed to be a 32 oz. Steak for $140.00 we received this tiny little amount on a plate that looked like an appetizer. It was definitely not 32 oz. I ordered the salmon and by the time I had a couple bites the center was still raw, and at that all the flavor was just oil. It tasted like I was eating all oil. The food looks pretty just doesn’t taste pretty. The carrots were decent flavor but under cooked as well. However, the one thing that I did enjoy was the sweet potatoes!! Delicious! Long story short, I’m leaving this review and being brutally honest because I don’t care who’s business it is, everyone is important and after walking out last night with over a$600.00 bill and three bites of food. I was starving when I got home. Lol.. our money doesn’t come easy and even though we made the best of it, it’s an overrated restaurant with too much hype. It’s a bunch of Malarkey!!

Google
The food was decent, but the music setup was a major disappointment. We came here for a nice steak dinner with family to celebrate a birthday, but ended up seated directly in front of the stage with no prior warning. The live music was so loud that we had to yell just to have a conversation, which completely ruined the dining experience. While the atmosphere in other parts of the restaurant seemed pleasant, sitting near the stage was unbearably loud and obnoxious. It’s a cool spot, but they need to reconsider how they manage seating and volume during live performances.

Wow! What an experience! This place was so unique and inviting. The ambiance was amazing! The wait staff was exceptional and our meals were the best we've ever had! I started off with Rhinestone Cowgirl to drink. It had glitter in it, so how could a girl go wrong? So fun! We shared the Oregon beef tartare with ranch aioli. This was a first for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed it - so flavourful! My honey had the filet mignon, medium rare, cooked perfectly, with a side of beef fat fries. If you don't experience these fries once in your lifetime, you are missing out. Soooo yummy!! I had a medium rare flat iron steak with horseradish cream, a side of crispy loaded potatoes (sour cream, cheddar cheese, green onion, bacon) and roasted baby carrots (hazelnut sesame relish, aleppo yogurt, carrot top pesto). So much food we took a bunch of leftovers for a meal for the next day as we wanted to save room for dessert. We ordered the cast iron pineapple upside down cake and, at my request because it was my birthday supper and I wanted to meet the chef, it was delivered by the one and only very charming and gracious Carlos Anthony. This was an amazing night with great food at a one of a kind restaurant, and I highly recommend it to everyone!

My husband and I got married in October and wanted to find a nice restaurant for dinner after our small ceremony. We found Hawkeye and Huckleberry online and I instantly loved the photos of the space and the feel of the restaurant. I reached out to the hostess since we had a few special requests and she was so helpful in setting everything up for us and just making it easy (when may other restaurants had not). They were able to reserve a separate room for us, perfect for the small number of guests (12) we had. It was such a cozy, romantic, just lovely setting and the food and cocktails were all delicious! I've seriously been craving the food since we left. Our group raved about this restaurant and we were so thrilled with everything. Thanks Hawk & Huck!

Google
Such a fun restaurant with great food and fun cocktails! The ribeye was perfect, sides were fantastic and the dirty martini was one of the best and well balanced cocktails. Don’t skip the cornbread, it’s like nothing you’ve ever had, and the service was amazing! Don’t skip this restaurant on your visit to Bend!

Yelp
Valentine's dinner with my wonderful husband at Hawkeye and Huckleberry in Bend. The entrance to the couples seating was truly unique. A walk through an old camper and through the bubbles to magnificent food and a staff that was hands down amazing! (Thanks, Caleb ) We talked, laughed, ate and did a bit of dancing in our chairs to the music. We had a blast.

Yelp
REVIEW OF THE VALENTINE'S DAY DINNER: We had never been there before so decided to try this place. While we liked the decor and atmosphere (once they turned the music down), the food was just...off. While it was tasty, and we didn't leave hungry, some dishes were missing key ingredients. Note: Service was great. Plenty of waiters/waitresses. First coarse: the blini was the size of a dime and we got one each. Second coarse: My husband got the pork belly, which he enjoyed I got the shrimp toast which we both agreed was horrible and nasty and also had no shrimp on it. Just was soaking wet in some sort of liquid and spices. Third coarse: we had the strawberry salad. Tad too much balsamic vinegar for me but quite enjoyable. My husband enjoyed the candied pecans. Fourth course: we each got the filet and mashed potatoes [supposed to be filet and lobster but good luck finding the lobster]. Very good cornbread--but I couldn't eat the asparagus because it had too much sauce on it. Fifth course: we each had the peanut butter brownie. The banana ice cream was delicious--and not overwhelmingly sweet. But I would have liked to try the berry crumble. Will we go back? Maybe in a few months for our anniversary. When it's easier to get to the front door since there is a very small amount of parking.

Yelp
Long overdue rating but can't speak highly enough of this place!! Had an amazing birthday dinner of ~20 back in December. Staff were extremely attentive and felt like we were the top priority, despite the restaurant being so slammed. Menu had a lot of variety, and allergies were catered to with such care. The staff was able to even provide recommendations & fun twists depending on our palettes. The cocktails were amazing and the overall ambiance was to die for!! Bend needed an upscale, farm-to-table yet casual dining experience such as this one and so excited to come back soon!!

Yelp
We have been excited to try Hawkeye and Huckleberry. Last night was the night. We had 8 people going for a birthday dinner. We went early and had reservations at 5:30pm. When we got there the parking lot was full and we had to park a block away. When we arrived it looks like a cruise shipped themed dining room. Meh. Kinda cool but I've been on a lot of cruises and this is exactly what they look like. It felt strange for am actual restaurant. Ordered a couple of drinks and appetizers. The menu is small which I actually appreciate. You can rely on the food being fresh and the chefs being an "expert" on the few dishes available. So one would think. I ordered the Skirt steak. Two out of ten. I read some other reviews and they said their steaks were salty. They must have used all the salt up because there was no seasoning on mine. Just bland chewy steak. Not good. My wife ordered the Filet medium. It came out purple. When you order medium it is totally edible Medium rare or Medium well. It happens. This steak was still cold and purple. She sent it back. When it came back the steak was still purple and VERY rare. The waitress took it off the bill which was nice. Didn't offer a fresh one or anything but at least I didn't have to pay for it. The deserts were the highlight and earned them 2 stars. The Burbon Date cate was delish! The highlight of the whole meal. This place is loud, crowded, with sub par food at high prices. With all the amazing places to eat in Bend. I don't think we'll be back for awhile. Very disappointing.

Yelp
Cute modernized western themed atmosphere! Service was impeccable! Friendly and attentive. I've tried a few cocktails, each very unique and delicious! Hands down the best appetizer is the tuna! Take each bite with a piece of kimchi and cilantro, to die for!!! The polenta and crab app was good as well as the beet salad! Ordered the skirt steak and NY strip, both very delicious! Both paired well with the cast iron Mac and cheese. I usually never eat beef but this was a special treat! Overall, a very fun dining experience with tasty cocktails, apps and entrees! Great new spot that Bend NEEDED!

Yelp
We adored this restaurant! The decorations for Christmas and New Year's Eve were beautiful. There's so many fun spots in this space to sit comfortably and feel right at home. The servers were all very nice and attentive. One thing I strongly recommend is making reservations ahead of time. We came New Year's Eve at 4:30pm and unfortunately got sat in the back room, still cute but definitely quiet and out of the entertainment area. However, we also had the baby so, it was almost meant to be so baby can sleep. Go for the cocktails! All of them are so tasty! They have prod fix menus of 5 courses, but they can also serve a plate a la carte. We snacked on the jalapeño cornbread and that was really good! We didn't stay for dinner, but will plan another trip back soon!

Yelp
First time here was absolutely amazing. Great vibe for the cowgirls and cowboys in Bend. Food was insane, especially the trout. I got the chicken which was delicious! The service was excellent, very friendly waiters. Definitely will be returning, is tomorrow night too soon?

Yelp
This place is a viiiiiiiibe! Given that I feared the food would look good but might not be impressive with textures or flavors. I was 100% wrong. Everything was flavorful, ingredients were fresh, and textures were perfection. My only point of disappointment was that I went for my birthday dinner, party of 4, and were sat at a very small table which required a lot of shuffling stuff around. I expressed my concern about this when we ordered the tomahawk but we were kept at that table and it did make for a pain. Given I booked the experience several weeks in advance a better table would've been nice. They did give a good champagne toast for my birthday though :)

Yelp
Tried it out for the first time on a Valentines date with the wife. Parking is horrible !! Service was poor waitress seemed like she had better things to do. Bar area was seriously chilly as the doors are drafty. For the holiday they had a set menu that had the courses with a couple options. Figured that with a set menu and few choices and how expensive it was the food would be excellent but it wasn't it was just kinda blah. The place is really loud almost like a bar that's trying to be a high end restaurant. The amuse was a quarter size Bellini that had fish egg and something else that was soggy and not flavorful. Strawberry fields salads were good. The appetizer of shrimp toast was gross as toast literally was soaked in oil and overpowered the whole thing. The filet with lobster while the filet had good flavor the "lobster" was non existent. Desert was ok the raspberry crumble actually tasted good but the chocolate "lava" cake was solid and no lava. Might give it a second try with a regular menu that we can choose from but we will see.

Yelp
UPDATE! We went for happy hour and had a fantastic time on the patio. Hosts were welcoming and we had a great time outside- it was lovely! And they kept us warm with heaters and blankets. We really enjoyed our service- Reed was our main server and was part of a great team out there! So, happy hour it is :)

k s.

Yelp
First off the atmosphere is so cute! No complaints on overall ambiance. Our bench seating though was so uncomfortable we almost asked to move seats. It was noticeably uncomfortable and difficult to sit there and eat a proper dinner as my back couldn't touch the seat back and my feet couldn't touch the floor! I'm not super short but it was hard to get comfortable. Apps came out and were ok. Waiter said he knew about gluten free but then asked about items with dairy. First red flag. I trusted him though (totally my fault) and got horribly glutened (most likely by fries - they said they used a separate fryer and he promised it was ok but I'm suspicious now). I believe I was glutened then because when my meal came out it was inedible. They really tried to make it right (which I so appreciate) and the waiter was so kind but at that point I didn't trust him at all so I didn't touch anything after that while my friends finished dinner - neither impressed with their mains. The cauliflower steak was black charred in an unappetizing way and the fish dish was really under seasoned. Unfortunately, we had a pretty terrible meal there. Hopefully, it was just a really off night. I normally would never leave a bad review but because of my food allergy I feel I have to warn others. I would not recommend anyone to eat there with celiac / gluten free. I wouldn't trust anything (not even salad dressing etc) we absolutely would come back for happy hour for some drinks though! It's really cute.

Yelp
The ambiance at the restaurant is fantastic. Really fun service, cool decor, and the cocktails are all very well done.

Yelp
Everything was great! It's a cool vibe with lighting, the bar, a stage, and some camp tent style tables. The outdoor patio is awesome -we started out there but then got caught in some random rain and they were quick to move us inside. The drinks were beautiful, unique and tasty with names to fit the atmosphere. The cornbread.... My favorite! The side were pretty tasty too. My husband loved the crispy loaded potatoes, so delicious-but be warned it's large! I got the salmon and the crispy skin and flavoring was scrumptious. The deep center was a tiny rare for my taste. My husband's steak was a little more rare than he anticipated, as most steakhouses tend to overcook steak. The prior reviews we read were spot on with steaks being a little under what you ask for. But tasty nonetheless! Might be slightly overpriced for the cook, but I think anytime a new place opens, they have kinks to work out and they have to build consistency over time. No doubt they will. definitely recommend! We'll be back to try some more steaks and sides (wish I had tried the crispy pork belly!)

Yelp
What an amazing experience! From food to music to ambiance, it was well worth the trip. We stayed a few hours, with several members of the staff spending time with us to give us a great dinner. Best grilled salmon I've ever had, as well as the best craft cocktails. Quite honestly, this is the best restaurant I've been to in years!
google avatar

Joe O.

Yelp
Nice ambiance and vibe, great staff. Food was overpriced and SUPER salty, could not get over how salty everything was, which In my past life working in kitchens is what we would to food which lacks flavor or quality.
google avatar

Shelly P.

Yelp
Initial impression: cool vibes, eclectic ambiance, full house, not too loud, wait staff was nice and attentive. Have a stage for live music and an outdoor patio. Post impression: was underwhelmed with the food in general; not a lot of flavor; the filet mignon was way overcooked, so much so that my date had to spit it out because it was so tough to chew; for $60 for a steak it should cut like butter. This place is new so I'm sure they're still working out the kinks - the drinks looked like they were good, maybe I'll try those.
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
Pros: Ambience is very inviting and modern. A twist on glamping/entertainment. Drinks are very we'll crafter (Dry Martini & Cup of Ambition) Cons: Food is a little over salted (Oregon Beef Tartare & Romaine Salad)

Yelp
Came here for the hubby's bday dinner and it didn't disappoint! We had been anxiously awaiting the opening and were happy to check it out. For cocktails we tried the Midnight Cowboy, the "I'm your Huckleberry" and the Tumalo Honey. All were very good. For appetizers we had the beef tartare and beet salad. Best tartare we've ever had! The herbed burrata and orange slices made the beet salad perfect. Hubby and son shared the tomahawk steak with mushrooms and "around the world" sauces (Bearnaise and chimichurri were their favorites), while I had the steak fried steak. We shared side orders of loaded baked potato and roasted carrots...plenty of food for 3. All items were fantastic. The service is amazing. Every staff person we came into contact with was helpful, friendly, and professional. The decor was playful, rustic and unique, creating a fun and inviting warm atmosphere that we will definitely return to. It's our opinion that the Malarkey brothers have done a great job with the perfect mix of traditional and contemporary. You can dress however you like and feel completely comfortable. Also, don't forget to try the bourbon date cake for dessert! Sooooo warm and yummy!

Caitlin E.

Yelp
Go here!! Amazing decor. Amazing service. AMAZING food. Amazing bar! Highly recommend the romaine salad and the broccoli. We also got a loaded baked potato and a steak. All incredible!! We sat at the bar and the staff were awesome. Great mixed drinks. Awesome recommendation for a bottle of wine.

Elliott A.

Yelp
We had a wonderful experience dining here. It was for our anniversary and they brought us two glasses of champagne on the house. We got the cornbread, YUM, mashed potatoes, carrots and the tomahawk. I do feel it was a tad over priced but the flavor was amazing. We will be going back. The atmosphere is AMAZING.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
Was so excited to visit to really not be impressed. At first look the decor is fun but after second look too many things going on. Especially the lighting. Too many styles and they flicker! This is not ok and it's been going on for weeks the servers said. What why? Talk about ruining our entire dinner. Flies... the patio area is open to the main area. Seemed nice until the whole dinner we were swatting flies away from our food. There are 3 steaks that they boast come as they are. Wow! Get prepared for a big red, bloody rare steak. This should be mentioned. Especially, when you order another steak at medium. Sides are large, expensive and not a lot of options. And everything was so salty! Further, wine menu could stand for a better options considering a steak is at minimum $50 ala carte. I suggest serving bread, tasters or something to make the meal feel like it's worth the money. I hope they make some simple tweaks
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
I was so disappointed. We spent almost $300 on the saltiest and most disappointing food ever. We even sent the salad back because the salad was so salty, it was inedible. The restaurant was beautiful and service was decent. We ordered s'mores for our kids and the server dropped it off and left. He didn't explain that everything we needed was outside at the fire pit. The salmon I ordered tasted of only salt. It was beautiful, great crisp, and had cherries and hazelnut, but it was dry. The salmon needed a sauce or puree to bring out the flavors. Our steak was meh and covered in extremely salty, inedible onions. The cornbread was the most exciting. Cornbread... we didn't even want to take home our leftovers. Too bad. Awesome place, even had a place for kids to play which is great, but the food was incredibly disappointing considering the amount of money we dropped. The kids pizza was excellent. We ordered the Caesar salad, NY strip, salmon, cornbread, carrots, and beans

Yelp
The ambiance was fun! The service was wonderful and fast. We enjoyed our ribeye. It was perfectly cooked. The loaded potatoes were a bit difficult to eat but still tasted great! The watermelon moonshine was very refreshing as well! We even saw a chef from tournament of champions working the line! All In all very happy with our visit.

Yelp
This place has a lot of wow factor!! The decor and ambience is on point. Such a lively place, we had a great time tasting several drinks. Their service was amazing. Bartenders were on point and drinks were 10/10. Can't wait to come back again and try more items

Yelp
Hawkeye and Huckleberry is a fantastic spot! We recently came in for drinks and pizza, and everything was amazing. The food was delicious, and the service was top-notch - seriously, 1000% on point. The ambiance was really cool too, with hip cowboy music and decor that made the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Two weeks open and I'd have to say, I was pretty impressed. First thing you notice is the design and decoration of this drastically remodeled restaurant. B&J Malarky and team made some great choices for a fun and functional restaurant that has a very cool vibe. On to the drinks. We had several of their house cocktails and there was definitely some innovative thinking on spins of some classics like the Old Fashion. I'd recommend getting their version of one of your favorites to judge for yourself. Now the food. First off though, our server, Lance, was excellent. Personable, attentive, and professional without giving us the feeling he was too busy for us. I lead with service as he really helped us with the steak choice. There were five of us and each looking at their own steaks. He recommended the 32oz porterhouse and it was the perfect amount. Easy when you all prefer your steak at the same level of doneness and they nailed medium rare with ideal seasoning. The sides were a bit of a mixed bag ranging from good to great. Good was the corn bread, asparagus, and shiitake mushrooms. Great were the mashed potatoes (more like potato flavored butter ) steak tartare and the white beans. For reference let me say the "good" was prepared very well but not necessarily something remarkable. "Great " was something with a unique texture or had a flavor profile that was new to me. Also, the staff we interacted with were awesome. Fun and professional. Oh, and did I mention the place is just too cool? Overall, I'd highly recommend H&H and I'm looking forward to returning to explore more the menu.

Yelp
Visited tonight for my parents wedding anniversary. They gave us a small glass of sparkling wine for free, which was a very sweet touch. We shared 2 appetizers and each got an entree. The food was fantastic and so flavorful. We were even treated to a free dessert, date cake with salted caramel ice cream. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We left very satisfied. Absolutely would recommend for a date night or special occasion. The ambiance and decor is stunning and western chic. Must try if you are in Bend.

Yelp
Ambiance was nice, mocktail was very tasty and fresh. The beet salad was good. But after eating there I was sick All night and undigested food came back up 5 hours later. Called and confirmed- they use vegetable oils and canola oils, which hopefully were all learning is a NO. So much for fine dining. If I pay $40 for a dish, with no sides included, I'd expect it to be cooked in butter, or high quality oil or fat and not be sick well into the next day.

Yelp
Everything went well. The decor and ambiance was lovely. The hostesses attention on our arrival and quickly seating us. Our server Caleb was awesome. The food presentation and quality was outstanding. We had a delicious and delightful dinner.

Yelp
great ambience, nice service, appetizers and sides were excellent...problem was the ribeye steak, thin and overcooked. If you bill yourself as a steak restaurant, you need to step up your game.
google avatar

Jessica F.

Yelp
The food, service and ambience were amazing. Steaks were some of the best I've had in BEND, especially the filet. Our waiter was very attentive despite it being a packed house on a Friday night! Excited to come back to the happy hour from 4 to 5.

Yelp
Food, cocktails & service were fabulous! Brian Malarkey really hit it out of the park with this unique and well decorated restaurant. The staff was spot on! We'll definitely return on our next visit to Bend, Oregon!
google avatar

Jake H.

Yelp
The drinks, appetizers, service and ambiance were all awesome. We'll definitely go back because they've done a great job with the concept and the space. However, we felt the quality of the steaks wasn't worth the price tag. Most of the steak options start at $60+ which isn't an issue if you get quality cuts cooked at the right temp but our table ordered 3 $75+ ribeyes medium rare and they all came out medium to medium well and the cuts weren't up to par with RBC or Bos Taurus. Next time we'll probably pivot orders but willing to give it another shot! Everything else was amazing.

Christy N.

Yelp
Lauren was a great server and it is an awesome place! The salmon and buttered potatoes were excellent and the Rhinestone Cowgirl cocktail is not to be missed. Look forward to our next visit.

Yelp
It's a total vibe! A lil bit country, a lil rock n roll. You come here for the total experience! You'll want to wander the restaurant to make sure you take it all in. The food does not disappoint, I've had some of their steaks, lengua, cornbread, salads, pizzas, it's all very good. The service may be my favorite part! Every time I've been there I have been helped by an Amandra and she honestly completes the package. I would rate her service experience as highly better than most restaurants and also consistent. A great fun place to gather for a special occasion, bring friends visiting out of town, anytime you really want to have that wow factor - I recommend.

Yelp
Went there with wife and two daughters, who were on a Bend visit. Had been once earlier for Happy Hour, which was fun. Sat at the bar and had the burgers, which were amazing. Shared the fries; enough for both of us. Dinner was also amazing, had steak, just right! One daughter was celebrating a birthday, they provided a large bowl of ice cream. Venue is large and cowboy eclectic; tents and an antique travel trailer, which is the entrance to a good size banquet room. There is a nice fenced outdoor dining area.

Yelp
Hoping they iron out the kinks, but would give them time to do so before I go back. The ambiance is great - and the cocktails were fantastic. Wine list advertised Pursued By Bear, which was actually their Bear Cub blend. Also advertised Jadot Marsannay, which turned out to be a cotes de beaune. The bottles weren't presented before pouring and so our group had already started drinking before we noticed. I wouldn't have ordered either of those at the price points had I known. Our steaks ranged from cold and raw to shoe leather, despite everyone ordering medium rare. They were good about replacing the worst of them, but even the replacement was far off from what was ordered. And as others have commented, not the quality of RBC. The service was somewhat spotty - as we didn't see a server for over 20 minutes after arriving, and food was served sporadically (we had one appetizer arrive after the mains... which came out over a ~5+ minute window). Here's hoping they get those issues ironed out, as it has a lot of potential.

Yelp
This is best and most interesting restaurant in bend right now!! Exactly what this lil town needed. The atmosphere is terrific! The menu is different ( thank you)! Food Options you can't find anywhere else in central Oregon. If you're tired of variations on the the same old basic Bend menu and want to experience something new, this is your place!! Service is outstanding, food is amazing, atmosphere is awesome, portions are generous and cost is reasonable. What more could we ask?

Yelp
Atmosphere in the restaurant was lively and fun for New Year's Eve Over a $100 per person You got a five course meal we left hungry the prime rib we were told you had to take it as cooked problem is it was not cooked it came live cow to our plate. we could not send it back nobody would help us do that. Had to take it home ended up in the garbage. If you're going pay this kind of money I don't care whether it's a holiday or not your food should be good and prepared how you want the meat I do not like paying for a live cow. Portion sizes were so small. It was shocking with that type of money being paid for a meal. You can at least serve enough for an average person to have a meal. These were all like appetizer bites very disappointing. First time here will not be going back for a while they set the stage. I would think that they would try to do their best because there was a lot of new people that had never been there before trying it out for New Year's Eve.. just another drinking hole and BEND.

Yelp
What a great new addition to the Bend restaurant scene! I came on a Tuesday night without a reservation and was able to slide into the last available seat at the huge bar. I reviewed the menu and decided to make a meal of three appetizers: the beef tartare with house pickles and roasted poblano, the fried mushrooms with lemon curry aioli, and the beef tongue tostada. The beef tartare was a little out of balance for me (a few too many pickles, masking some of the beef flavor). The beef tongue was rich and tender, paired with plenty of guacamole along with a spicy salsa macha that reminded me of chili crisp and some pickled onions, a perfect foil to the unctuous meat. My favorite dish was the fried mushrooms -- I was sorry I was so full or I would have ordered another one. The mushrooms were perfectly crisp, so hard to do with mushrooms, and the creamy curry aioli made the deep-fried dish seem refreshing. The team working the bar was fast, friendly, professional, and kept an eye out for me even though the place was packed. And the food was delicious -- I surveyed the people around me as to what they were having and everyone was enjoying their meals, from cauliflower to tomahawk steaks. Next time I'm in Bend, I'm heading back. Yum!

Yelp
The quality of the food does not justify the price tag. The flavor is just not there, the chimichuri tasted like my 10 year old made it, white beans mixed with chimichuri just doesn't go well together, the steaks are very chewy, I almost choked in swallowing. Santa Maria Skirtsteak is bitter and tough as leather. The two star is for the ambiance and good staff.

Yelp
Absolutely outstanding. The environment is just so fun. Brian Malarkey has done an outstanding job with this space. The food was fantastic, drinks inventive, service attentive. Having been to his restaurants in San Diego, I had high expectations and they were met with every dish. Portions are large so plan accordingly or as you leave, you will look like you ordered take out. This is an amazing addition to the Bend food scene.

Yelp
Christmas Eve dinner really disappointing ! , especially for the price they charged..

Yelp
Having dined at the owners restaurants Herb & Sea and Herb & Wood many times, we were excited to try Hawkeye & Huckleberry. Sadly, we were disappointed in the food and service. It was a Christmas Eve prefix menu. One would think that a prefix menu would be easier for the kitchen. Everything we ate was over salted. The salad dressing was too sweet. We could not order the prime rib as we liked. The waitress shared that "it will be cooked how it comes out." We received well done thin pieces of prime rib that were tepid, too salty and chewy. The staff were friendly, however, our table was not cleaned between courses. We had to ask for this. On a positive note, the vibe at the bar was vibrant and the western decor is fun. It's a large venue. Lastly, according to our waitress, the staff was not being paid any overtime for working Christmas Eve. Disappointing experience and food.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants you will find in Central Oregon when it comes to ambiance, service, and quality food. The steaks and fish options are to die for.

Yelp
Excellent from entering the door, everyone was friendly, and accommodating, attentive. The lounge area was set up well. The service was stellar, Reed was our Server, he was the best!!! Food: was out of this world, had the beet salad was fantastic, I had the beef tartare excellent, then main course was the Tomahawk ribeye, cooked to perfection, with buttery potatoes and carrots, all around the best dinner and experience, the ambience was excellent, definitely return here

Yelp
Atmosphere was spot on and fun. Food generally lacked flavor which was the consensus of our group. If they can turn that around this place would probably be our favorite restaurant. Drinks were also good. Service was great.

Yelp
Thanksgiving dinner. Reservation's for 14. Seated immediately in tent as requested. Ambiance was great, we could talk and it wasn't too noisy. Drinks were offered immediately, within a few min, dinner choices were ordered. The food was outstanding! Soup could have been a lot warmer. Large portions, great choices, outstanding service! We all had fun and really enjoyed our family Thanksgiving meal. Highly recommend!
