"Step inside the richly hued, velvety atmosphere of Hawks Provisions and Public House, and Molly Hawks and Michael Fagnoni’s intentions with their second restaurant become immediately clear. This Michelin-recognized gastropub in East Sacramento takes great care to pack as much flavor as possible into each bite without overwhelming the senses; the popular fried Brussels sprouts are doused in a rich Parmesan vinaigrette tempered with tangy lemon and torn herbs, and the whipped Brie that tops the fusilli gets swirled with broccolini pistou, roasted chanterelles, and crisped kale. In true Sacramento fashion, Hawks’ menu changes with the seasons, which makes it an excellent standby for multiple visits over time." - Tamerra Griffin

"You’re likely to find a stable of regulars occupying the handsome zinc bar at this lively, new-school “public house.” Once you’ve settled in, it won’t take long to realize why. An array of carefully crafted spins on classic cocktails is sure to stimulate your taste buds, while the friendly staff sets the room’s casual mood. The straightforward menu reflects the seasons, offering a small selection of familiar plates heightened with a touch of oomph. Tomato soup, for instance, is augmented with tangy goat cheese sformato and a crisp, buttery slice of sourdough; just as a signature burger is decked out with fried mortadella. House-made pastas are yet another high point.Simple sweets will satisfy in a pinch, but dessert drinks are a worthy indulgence." - Michelin Inspector

Guys! What can I say about this place? It’s absolutely amazing. I don’t know if this restaurant has a Michelin star, but it definitely should. The food is excellent. The combination of flavors is refined, and the presentation is top-notch. All in all, we were pleasantly surprised.

We went on a random Tuesday night and wait times for drinks and food are long. Waitress was super nice and kept us updated and apologized for short staff but I suppose there’s a certain expectation for nice restaurants like this. Food was amazing, great flavors and done in unique ways. The tuna takes the cake here, super well done app. Drinks are done well here too, good selection at the bar. The chocolate cookie and ice cream was the perfect way to end the night

Hawks is a nice place. The food was excellent and the service was great. Apparently this place is quite popular. Our group arrived early on a Monday night with only a few people in the place but by the time we left the place was packed. The one negative is it got very loud inside once all the seats were filled. Back to the food, it was top notch but not cheap. No complaints on the price but be forewarned. The service won me over.

Damn delicious! The Gnocchi to start...the sauce was so good, used the bread to soak it up. Brussels were really great balance of flavor and spice. Lobster spaghetti was dynamite for being in middle California. A generous amount of lobster. This Sourdough bread pudding with gelato...just order it no matter how full! So damn good. Also great service, food was so good, almost forgot that the service was spot on!

Google
Great atmosphere. Service was excellent. Mushroom soup to start with was excellent, great depth of mushroom flavor and the truffle oil addition created a nice contrast. Salmon was cooked perfectly, only feedback was the skin while crispy was over salted. Overall a great spot. Plenty of free parking is a bonus.

Google
Honestly surprised about our poor experience after reading other reviews. Arrived 10 minutes before our reservation when only the bar was open and the lone bartender couldn’t handle a 2/3 full bar. Hostess wouldn’t let us sit at any of the empty tables since the servers hadn’t arrived so we were left standing in the middle of the restaurant unable to get a drink. Finally made it to a space in the bar and the bartender said he was too busy to take our order right away. Other staff there but no one ever came to help him. Eventually took 40 minutes to get drinks and well 90 minutes to get our food. Watched people who came in well after us get their food 20 minutes before us. House cocktail had a weird consistency and several items we ordered weren’t great. Rigatoni sauce was tasty but noodles were very tough. Cold blob of cheese on top isn’t a great addition as the pasta cooled over pretty quickly. Server was pleasant but seemed unfamiliar with some menu items ingredients. Overall not a place I’d go back to.

It's a get together dinner night with a bunch of great colleagues.  Hawks Public House was chosen for our group of 10 on a Tuesday (7/30) evening. Hawk’s is located off a fairly busy street off Alhambra Blvd.  Free parking is available off Sutter Medical Plaza.  The restaurant is pretty small and the dining area seats probably 75 people or so is my guest.  There's an amazing bar inside decked out with all kinds of spirits along the wall.  Decor is warm and inviting. We were seated along the West side of the building.  Given the timing of our get together (5:30pm), a couple of us were seated facing west while the sun was setting, which made it really bright and warm. Our server was awesome.  She was very patient with us.  She got us started with drinks while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. In terms of the food, we had ordered Deviled Egg and Kennebec Fries for appetizers.  The Deviled Eggs were delicate and full of flavor.  Each order had 6 little Deviled Eggs.  The Kennebec Fries were good but nothing special. For our main course, we ordered the Rigatoni, Spaghetti Fra Diavolo, Rotolo, the Grilled Pork Chop, and the Dayboat Scallops.  All sounded very interesting.  Our food arrived within 20 minutes upon ordering.  The presentations of the dishes were all amazing.  However, the portion size for some of the dishes were much smaller than expected, especially the Dayboat Scallops.  The dish was so small it was actually comical.  We had joked that we'd starve and would need to fill up on booze instead.  I personally had the scallops and while it was very tasty, it was on the saltier side.  The three pieces of scallops were full of flavor and very yummy. The cocktails were good but did fall short of expectations.  I had ordered the Hawks Tonic, a cocktail made with gin, homemade mediterranean tonic, and lime juice.  The lime was too much and overpowered any taste of herbal that I was expecting in a gin cocktail.  It tasted more like a limeade than a gin cocktail.  The presentations of the cocktails looked amazing though. For desserts, we had ordered a Mocha Pot De Creme and a Lemon Olive Oil Cake.  Both turned out really good.  It wasn't too sweet and had the right balance of flavors.  Some ordered the dessert wine and said it was excellent. Our dinner came out to be about $100 per person for the evening which included a couple of drinks, appetizers, main course, dessert, tax, and tip. So how did Hawks Public House score in my book?  Here it is: Service is a solid 5/5.  Our server was awesome.  She was a great host and wasn't over bearing but was always available to us.  Dining area is a 4/5.  The windows could use an upgraded shade to block the sun from beating down on guests seated facing west.  It just got too warm and we were practically sweating.  The drinks are a 3/5.  The cocktails look better than it tasted.  Mine tasted more like a limeade.  I ended up switching to a glass of wine after and it was so much better.  The food is a 4/5.  The presentations of all the dishes were amazing.  All were very tasty but portion size for some were much smaller than expected and left some of us still feeling hungry!  Desserts were very good.  Value to price ratio is about a 4/5.  Overall experience is about a 4/5. While we all had a great time at Hawks, the overall experience was mixed. With the small dining space the noise level got up there and made it challenging to carry a conversation especially as the evening went on.  I felt like we had to raise our voice and yell in order for us to hear each other.  Do ask about portion size before ordering so you don't go hungry.  It's unlikely you'll have left overs.  For drinks, stick with the wine instead of the cocktail.  I've had my fair share of cocktails and Hawk's cocktail fell short of expectations.  Plan to pay a premium for the overall experience.   Make sure you're with good company to make it worthwhile. I certainly was. If you find this review helpful in your dining choice, please give the heart or thumbs up emoji button a click below.

We were invited to dinner at this place by some friends who had been here before. I'm really glad we came. It's a fun restaurant that is busy but the service is great. And the food for the most part, is very good. We ordered the deviled eggs, the olives, and one more appetizer. We also ordered the risotto, the pork chop, and the special for the day. Everything was delicious. For dessert, we had chocolate chip cookies and chocolate parfait. That was a little sub-par, Unfortunately. Are waitress, was super and we had a really great time. It's a little bit expensive, but worth it for a special occasion.

Yelp
Went here for our holiday lunch and omg, I'm bringing my husband back. The atmosphere is definitely a vibe and I can't wait to see what a date night would be like. The food is to die for, great prices as well and parking is so close and convenient.

Yelp
I dined at Hawk's for a holiday party a few weeks ago. We had a party of 8. Our server, Christopher, started out really strong. He answered questions, provided bread, water, delivered our drinks, and checked on us often. We ordered appetizers for the table and our main entrees at the same time. Our appetizers started to arrive, and for some reason, they didn't have enough bread for everyone at the table, so I didn't eat any (which I would later regret). He said the supplier shorted them on the order. I found it odd, but didn't think too much on it. Once we finished the appetizers, our plates were cleared off the table. This is where the great service took a turn. It was as if our table was completely forgotten about. Christopher no longer checked up on us, and our entrees were nowhere to be found. The table of five next to us, that arrived after us, got their food before us. They finished eating, and our food was still not out yet. The two parties of two behind us ate their dinner, left, and two new parties of two were seated. Our food took so long to come out that we ended up doing our white elephant gift exchange. Even after that concluded, our food was still nowhere to be found, and Christopher walked by us numerous times. We waited about 45min-1 hour for our food. By the time it finally arrived, everyone was starving! My chicken dinner was extremely salty and inedible. Everyone else's dinner was fine. By then, there was no point in saying anything because it might take another business day for them to correct it and give me something else. At that point, I just wanted to leave because we had been there for almost 3 hours, and everyone had been at work all day. When I observed Christopher, he went and did a bunch of other tasks, like serve other tables, wash dishes at the bar, pour drinks, all while ignoring our table. He never gave us any updates, and at the end, we had to ask for the bill, which he took forever to bring over. I'm not quite sure what happened to this place, but it used to be great. Also, for how small this restaurant is, it is extremely LOUD! Everyone in the group agreed that we would never return.

Yelp
Thanks to Cody and his team for making our Christmas Eve!!! We were scrambling to find a place for dinner and the hosts at Hyatt House highly recommended them. I was running late for our reservation after delays at Sutter Hospital and they went out of their way to make sure we had a delicious meal. It was the perfect way to end a stressful day. The Crab cakes, Bread, Butternut squash, Prime Rib and Figgy Pudding were on point. And The place settings, lighting and velvet tufted seats are Very chic. Merry Christmas to all the staff and our appreciation to the chef

Candace C.

Yelp
Chef Frank knocked it out the park and our server Gerael took the BEST care of us! My work team and I had our annual Christmas lunch and it was absolutely delicious. On apps we had fries, deviled eggs, house made chips with caramelized onion dip and brussel sprouts. Listen we could have stopped at the apps..but we are no quitters! For lunch we ordered cob salad, Caesar salad with grilled chicken, hanger steak, pasta and mushroom soup. I tasted my colleagues mushroom soup and instantly regretted not ordering same! My Caesar salad was perfectly portioned with sliced grilled chicken. Desserts: coconut sorbet, vanilla ice cream, melt in yo mouth chocolate chip cookies, and the last dessert I'm blanking on but it was like a chocolate mousse with house made peanut brittle on top. Oh em gee! Can't wait to bring my hubby for dinner. It's the cutest restaurant that gives me Manhattan vibes. Thank you again Chef Frank and Gerael for an indelible dining experience!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Hawks for quite some time after hearing great reviews about it! It's a smaller restaurant so definitely make a reservation ahead of time else the wait might be a while! I ordered the rigatoni after reading all the yelp reviews about how good it was. I enjoyed the rigatoni, it had a sweet sauce and slight spicy kick at the end. Portion size was okay for the price. My only complaint is the noodles are very al dente - so if you're not a fan of al dente noodles I wouldn't recommend this dish. Overall good experience eating here!

Laurie M.

Yelp
This restaurant is always a nice experience. Our party of 3 started with the charred Brussel sprouts that was plentiful and delicious. I highly recommend this appetizer for large groups. Our dinner was exceptionally slow that night but am not going to complain since we over stayed our welcome and the staff allowed us to dine 2 hours after we were served our entrees. I had the ribs that was fall-off-the-bone delicious and as an Asian, was so impressed with the cucumber tsunomono that accompanied it. It also came with a delicious and generous serving of jalapeño cole slaw. The jalapeño flavor was very subtle. The apple cake dessert and chocolate wonderment were so delicious we practically licked every morsel we could have the serve ware. It's always pleasant here and I will definitely return.

Yelp
Love this place, went on a Wednesday evening with a friend for dinner, place was packed ! We were seated immediately, loved the lively atmosphere. The food was fantastic, I ordered the herb roasted chicken with kale and mashed potatoes. Each ingredient was perfection. Also ordered the matcha drink which was unique and fabulous! Hope to be back at this place soon

Yelp
My Boyfriend took me here for our 1 year anniversary. It was a great culinary experience for the most part. Service was out of this world. It's a cute little spot and we were able to get reservations for a Tuesday dinner just a couple days beforehand. It's nice too because it has free parking in a shared lot with Sutter (just look for signage and enter from Stockton Blvd). Started with Truffle potato gnocchi and Gem Caesar salad as appetizers. I guess salad is usually just ordered for one but when we told them we wanted to split it, they plated it for us on 2 separate plates. The gnocchi was amazing and had a delicious sauce. They also brought out housemade sourdough bread so we can sop up all the sauce. The salad while very nice looking was lacking that zesty caesar flavor and I would not order again. For our entrees, I got the seasonal lobster spaghetti with spicy sauce (spaghetti fra diavolo) and bf got grilled pork chop with broccolini and polenta. The flavor profile for both these dishes were incredible. We ordered the spiced carrot cake for dessert to go. When we got home to enjoy it, we were both surprised on what it looked like. It looked more like a cookie with grapefruit garnished on top. It was alright but very far from our expectations and for $13, I don't feel it was worth it. Still with those critiques, I would love to go again and nice to know they switch out some dishes every now and then to keep the menu fresh.

Mikayla M.

Yelp
Always love coming here, I always get the deviled egg and we love the rigatoni here and the cocktails are always great. I'll be back again to try whatever the new deviled egg is next time and a new menu item. The caesar salad is really good as well. Definitely a date night vibe inside or you can sit at the bar without a reservation for a more chill vibe. Service is always great too.

Megan D.

Yelp
Sat at the bar since it was just me tonight. Served my double, neat. Bartender took my order and dish was served in about 15 minutes. There were a lot of people out tonight and it wasn't too loud. Liked the vibe. Nice, fun, but not rowdy. Dish was great. Otho g overpowering, chops were cooked perfectly and not dry. The polenta perfectly creamy and balanced out the chop and broccolini char. Would definitely order again.

Alex S.

Yelp
A very posh little place. Hard to get into without a reservation which is a testament to their popularity. There is street parking or you can enter the medical center parking lot and a few rows are designated for Hawks. The inside is cozy with pretty decor. There is bar seating, half booths, and tables. They have delicious cocktails. I tried a very unique beet and gin cocktail last time we were there. They have a modern American menu with some seasonal specialties. Their Brussels sprouts are amazing. We've also enjoyed their burgers and fried chicken sandwiches. It was all cooked deliciously. There was certainly a bit of a wait for our food, but we had our drinks to sip on in the meantime. It's a nice evening date night spot. Not really family friendly or meant for large gatherings. It's on the pricey side, so be sure to be prepared for that coming into it. Make a reservation in advance if possible.

Erin M.

Yelp
Disappointing food and service. Pork chop was overcooked and dry, food was generally over-salted instead of ingredients standing for themselves. Lovely atmosphere and bar service, all else was lackluster, especially for that price point.

Peggy H.

Yelp
Amazing! We are so thankful to have gotten a seat at the bar. The service was fantastic from the signing in for a table to the bar! We are definitely returning!

Gidget F.

Yelp
From start to finish was a disaster. I took the waiter 35 minutes to come back and tell me they didn't have the bottle of wine I ordered. We took the suggestion of the waiter on food items and not one thing was good I spent $700.00 on the worst food I have ever eaten. Mind you this was a lunch outing with clients. I happened to be with a Michelin star chef and his wife. It was embarrassing.

Jerry H.

Yelp
Great service and fun atmosphere! Really enjoyed the tempura squash rings and cauliflower soup. The sage and brown butter ribbon pasta was interesting with the tiny pistachios... I like nuts and pasta, but didn't like the combination... like nuts in a brownie or in a muffin... not my favorite combo.

Rebecca P.

Yelp
Wow. wow ! WOW !! How did I not know about this place ?! How has nobody told me about this place ?! My mother and her husband took me here on a Monday evening for dinner and my mind is blown by how incredible the food and overall expierence was. Everything we ordered was amazing, well made, and had all the right complementary flavors. To start was the duck mousse. So unique and when paired with the mustard on the bread you couldn't stop eating it. We had to ask for extra bread because we didn't want any part of the mousse to go to waste. Also the fried brussel sprouts. Although it said they were fried they were not what i expected but instead had a roasted texture yet still soft and a good crunch and bite to it? How it's possible to make one dish have so many different texture combinations is beyond me. This is a must order for the table especially if you are a big Brussel sprouts fan like myself. The rigatoni was so well made. You could tell the pork shoulder was cooked and simmered in the sauce. Also had the perfect balance of being creamy and not overly acidic. The overall ambiance of this place is modern and intimate. With the dim lighting and rustic look you feel so peaceful while enjoying your meal. It's VERY small inside so making a reservation is recommended. Not to mention the service was fantastic, and the cocktails were very well made. Do i need to keep going? Only downfall with this place is the prices.. Expect to splurge a hefty amount of money on your meal, and also parking isn't the greatest since it's just limited to what's available on the small side street off Alhambra. Either way you will LOVE this place, and you will be anxious to come back. I'm already saving some money to come back and I'm DYING TO TRY MORE !! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Erin M.

Yelp
My first time here and it was good. The best part was the cocktail I ordered called Beets and Bees. Delicious gin beverage but don't try to eat the beet... I would say that's garnish only territory. The devil eggs came after my meal and were not spectacular in my opinion. They were so cold they tasted as if they came right out of the fridge and not really much flavor to them. The burger was good. I enjoyed it but my friend said she had had their burgers in the past and they were much better. We got her husband a chicken sandwich to go and he said it was like a different sandwich from the last time. This time was not as flavorful. Overall I loved the vibe of the restaurant. Great ambiance and good service. I would try it again if I was in the area possibly but wouldn't rush there.

Josiah H.

Yelp
Birthday dinner with family, and here for the first time...finally. I've had Hawks bookmarked for a while, but for one reason or another. Had not been able to make it here before my birthday. We arrived a little early and checked in with the hostess and were seated prompted near the front. After looking over the menu for a bit, order drinks and started off with appetizers. Drinks: Watermelon fizz Orange Vanilla Fizz Gin & Tonic Tequila Mules Appetizers: Pork belly Gnocchi Main course New York Pork cheeks Rigatoni Fusili w/chicken Dessert: Don't remember...sorry Everything was delicious! The Pork belly appetizer was so good that after the first dish, we order a 2nd to share. Overall: Love the open kitchen view, love the décor. Very lively and bustling on a Friday night. Great food and great service...would highly recommend.

Kayla M.

Yelp
Fast friendly considerate service. Parking was convenient. The unique drinks were delicious as well.

Fork In The Road E.

Yelp
Food: this is honestly the best fried chicken I've ever had in my entire life, no joke. It was so tender, juicy, crispy, and light. Mashed potatoes were great too. Service; I had to knock a star because the woman who took my order over the phone didn't know that the fried chicken dinner comes with mashed potatoes, greens, and cornbread. She said it only came with greens so I ordered French fries. Obviously, ended up with too much food. Ambiance: it's fine inside. Cozy, upscale/casual.

Melissa A.

Yelp
Super fresh food and yummy cocktails! Great service too, with our server making recommendations and accommodating my friend's dietary restrictions

Eva O.

Yelp
My daughter's best friends took her out to dinner this evening (8/8/24) at this restaurant and one of her best friend told the server that it is her best friend's birthday. Server came back with a piece of paper with a candle on the plate (WTF ) For a very expensive restaurant like this one and they can't even afford a mini cupcake for their customers?!?!?! Or at least cut a small piece of one of their desserts. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE SERVER and MANAGEMENT.

Brooke N.

Yelp
I really don't want to write this review because this is our little gem but..... everything is good here! From the drinks to the apps to the food! We try and go once a month and sit in the same booth every time with our same waiter. We will always go here whether special occasion or date night.

Scott W.

Yelp
I would highly recommend Hawks Public House. // THE FOOD // Category Grade: 10 out of 10 Appetizers: - Gem Caesar. This was one of the best caesar salads I have ever had. The egg on top was my favorite part. It was seriously cooked to perfection. 10 out of the 10. - The Truffled Potato Gnocci just melted in your mouth. So much flavor and the truffle flavor didn't overwhelm the taste. It was a very nice complimentary flavor. Easily 10 out of 10. Entrees: - The Rigatoni was my favorite entree I had there. So much flavor and the sauce was extremely tasty. This was the best Rigatoni Dish I have ever had. 10 out of 10. - The Herb Roasted Chicken had a very tasty ragu sauce. But the chicken was so dry and we were pretty stuffed at this point. Especially for $35+, it just seemed disappointing. 7.5 out of 10. // THE SERVICE // Category Grade: 10 out of 10 Our waitress made killer recommendations/suggestions for food. She was quick and very friendly. And the hostess told us this was her very favorite restaurant and quit her last job to work here. At first, that seemed insane, but after the meal we had, I think it was justified. // EVERYTHING ELSE // Category Grade: 10 out of 10 Ambience was nice. Love the decor, kind of a farm house meets modern industrial. Dark green walls with like burnt pink couches on the outer walls. Loved the entrance way and the natural light. And the outdoor seating area was inviting, all centered around a tree. Ample amounts of parking. // OVERALL // Overall Grade: 10 out of 10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Rebecca K.

Yelp
I've been here a couple times and I've had a great experience both times. I tried Hawks first and when I heard of this location, I just had to try it! This location is more casual than Hawks, great to catch up with a small group of friends or date night. I do feel the food at Hawks is better but this place is still great. Pros: plenty of parking, easy to make reservations, and great service. My favorite is the gnocchi, it's the best I've had so far! We didn't wait long for the food to come out and my chicken was cooked perfectly. Our server was attentive and he even split our check without us asking. Cons: none that I can think of.

Amy O.

Yelp
I was in the area for a doctors appointment and was lucky enough to have time to grab a bite at Hawks Public House. I love the original restaurant in I just cited to get the chicken Caesar salad, because that's one of my favorite dishes, and usually you can't go wrong. This was no exception! They made an exceptional chicken Caesar, and every component was amazing. I ordered takeout and even the packaging was high quality. Delicious!

Debra S.

Yelp
Let's see. How to make a great night even more perfect? We went to Hawks for cocktails and dessert. One of the staff recommended the bread pudding. Great choice, and it's enough to share. Jamie makes the best sazerac. We love the vibe here -- I don't know why it's taken so long to return. I'll fix that.

Jenny S.

Yelp
We visited for lunch on a weekday and were seated right away. Service was excellent, I forgot the name of our waitress but she was helpful, friendly and very attentive. I had the fish and chips, they were delicious. The batter for the fish was lighter than the normal fried batter you get, and not greasy at all. The fries were great as well.

Amanda F.

Yelp
We met friends at Hawks recently and loved the food and service, but...the owners need to reconsider the window coverings at the front of the restaurant. In the summer the sun is literally blinding. If they had chosen a shade that blocked more light it would have been so much more comfortable. It's not a beautiful view, just a busy street. As it is, sitting facing the windows in the late afternoon is no fun.

Ann H.

Yelp
My friend and I visited Hawks to have drinks at the bar prior to starting our night. The bartender was very affable. He made the best tasting lemon drop I've had. This was the perfect start to our evening. I will visit again to try their dinner menu.

Dilraj S.

Yelp
Came here last minute for birthday dinner. Was able to get bar seating (recommend rsvp). Service was terrific. Got our drinks and food in good timing with dishes coming out appropriate times. Appreciating the service being able to split food into two plates. Presentation was well. Appreciated the mushroom soup cleanser. The bar drinks are also decent. The food overall was amazing. Lamb a little dry. I think they are far from going towards Michelin, but a nice place for dinner. Presentation was beautiful

Kalina S.

Yelp
My boyfriend and my favorite restaurant in Sacramento! They always have unique dishes with bold flavors. Dark-lit and cozy.

Lee W.

Yelp
I went to Sacramento Downtown Restaurant week at Hawks. I had been to a number of others so I had high expectations . My first criticism was that unlike other restaurants I had been to there were multiple choices for the appetizers, main course, and dessert, not so at Hawks. The main course was a very tiny serving of Lasagna, which was ok. The first course was a small salad with Citrus and Fennel, again not earthshaking. The dessert was a panna cotta also a small portion but just ok. My girlfriend got the grilled pork chop which was delicious and a generous portion. I wished I would have skipped the downtown restaurant menu altogether. My moral to the story is to put a little more effort into the downtown restaurant week menu.

Randy D.

Yelp
Went here for a birthday dinner. The place is small and eclectic. They have a pretty good wine list. The menu has a fair selection of options. Seemed the service was a bit slow at times, but overall nothing to complain about. Only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because I was expecting a lot more for the price. While the food was good, it seemed a bit overpriced.

Marissa K.

Yelp
Great service. Accommodated my gluten and dairy restrictions! The best deviled eggs, too.

Desirée K. H.

Yelp
Fun pub vibes with a well put together menu. For provisions, we did the deviled eggs, duck liver mousse, and kennebec fries. It did not disappoint. For my main, I ordered the pappardelle. I frequently enjoy restaurants with changing menus---they currently have a potato gnocchi and a carnaroli risotto that I have to try next!

Mike R.

Yelp
I love Hawks but it was a disappointment yesterday. We did not have a reservation but were seated quickly. The place has a good vibe to it for a small place, it handled a busy crowd effectively today. The problem was the meals, I had the spaghetti lobster diavolo ($35). The homemade pasta was cooked too 'al dente' and the sauce overwhelmed the lobster. The very spicy sauce was good but too spicy for the lobster dish. The replacement dish was also too al dente and very salty!? V's Vietnamese sandwich was too bland and had no real bite to it, The spinach salad was okay. Th dessert was over the top good!!! We also received a strawberry gazpacho that was very different and equally delicious! As you can tell, the lunch was a disaster. The host and the server both made us comfortable in a awkward scenario. Hope to be back soon to try other creations by Hawk's !!!

Yelp
Hawk's Public House is my new favorite place to have a family dinner! I had a dinner reservation here for 5:45. When I arrived, I was happy to see that there was ample parking in their very large parking lot. If you have been trying to dine in Downtown Sacramento, you know the pain of having to find parking. My family and I were seated right away and greeted my our waiter, who was so kind and friendly. He even cracked a few jokes, which I found funny! We started with bread and butter, a standard way to start a meal. Then we followed with the Duck Liver Mousse, which was so creamy and spreadable! It paired perfectly with the lightly buttered, well grilled acme sourdough. For the mains, we had a grilled swordfish which was amazing with the Harissa sauce, St. Louis Ribs, which had the perfect umami, and a the grilled NY Steak, which was standard steak but it was cooked to a perfect medium rare! For drinks, we enjoyed a Lemon Rosemary Refresher which was good, just like a plain lemonade. We also got the Pomegranate Seltzer, which tasted healthy. Overall, a great place to have a nice family dinner. The restaurant is clean and upscale.

Yelp
Probably our favorite place in Sacramento. Loved having lunch here - the Italian sandwich was a dream. Service and ambiance were perfect and more big city vibe than a lot of other Sacramento restaurants. We also went for dinner which wasn't as amazing IMO but will try again for sure next time in there!

Yelp
Super bummed out that the quality of the food was subpar except for one dish. Visited the Sacramento location for dinner and was excited to try out a variety of dinner options including drinks. Service could have been better. Our server seemed irritated, short with us and low energy. But it was a late 7:30pm dinner so our server was probably a little tired so very understandable. **What we enjoyed: GRILLED PORK CHOP w/ BROCCOLINI andCREAMY POLENTA: Pork chop was glazed and seasoned perfectly. The polenta was amazing. SADLY, the broccolini was burnt to a crisp. Way too burnt to even eat. GRILLED NY STEAK w/ POMMES PURÉES, ROASTED CARROTS: Steak was seasoned well and cooked medium rare as ordered. Enjoyed the steak but wasn't anything to rave about. MULES ARE METAL: The mezcal tequila was mild and easy to drink. Not too smokey. MI SANDIA: Great flavor and the tajin rim added a nice balance **What we did not enjoy: CRISPY PORK BELLY: Very dry and overcooked. And the beans, squash and apples were not a good choice to pair with. Just a strange concept that left me scratching my head. RIGATONI: Lack of flavor was disappointing due to being excited about trying this dish. The burrata that was added to the top of the dish but didn't add any incentives. HERB ROASTED CHICKEN: The chicken was VERY, very dry. Nothing good to say about this entire dish. THAT FANCY GIN & TONIC: Had to send this drink back. Couldn't get two sips out of it. Both desserts were just alright. Very mediocre as far a quality

Yelp
A decent place but the prices turn me away considering the just so-so-ness of the food. The dishes we got weren't bad but they weren't amazing, and I can think of a few places in Sacramento that serve better entrees. I found the vibe inside to be sort of in between two places: fancy but rustic? There wasn't anything bad about this place but I also felt there wasn't anything spectacular about it either.

Yelp
Man, I used to _love_ this place. It went from being one of three places I'd eat for the rest of my life to "naahhhh we should not go there." The last time I went was nearly abysmal. Four people were polishing glasses, and I had to ask for a fork to be able to eat my food. Prior, whenever I've been, people have been on top of checking on us. However, this time, we weren't checked on once in the two hours we were there. _I_ had to flag someone down every time. I had to repeatedly ask for water. I had to ask for a fork. (It's worth noting I wasn't being impatient. I asked for these things about 20 minutes after I just sat there, hoping someone would come.) We sat at the bar, so it's not like we were off in a hidden corner or something. Our drinks took maybe 30 minutes to get to us? And our food longer. Jaime isn't the lead bartender there anymore. So I don't know how much that had to do with anything. But I'm not eager to go back here and don't know if I ever will. It has been so disappointing the last two times we've gone. The last time I thought it was a fluke, but now this type of service has happened twice.

Yelp
We loved this place! Great food and service! The ambiance was also great. My wife and I have been working our way through the Michelin guide list of restaurants in Sac and this was one of them. It definitely did not disappoint. The menu changes weekly or monthly I believe but when we went we ordered the Ribs which were amazing, the smoky aroma filled the entire restaurant band it was awesome. My wife also ordered the pasta which is made in house and was delicious. All in all, great dining experience!

Yelp
My friend and I came to Hawks for the recommended "fried chicken" night. Let me start by saying it was very easy and painless to get a same day reservation, and I appreciated the quick service of the worker over the phone. The service, in general, at Hawks was fantastic the whole night. As far as the food, we were underwhelmed. The fritters were over salted (and coming from me that means something...I'm usually the person who is always asking for more salt), and my biggest issue was with the steak. I asked for it to be cooked medium (a warm pink center) and received a well done steak (little to no pink). Any steak lover knows that the most devastating part of dinner is when the steak gets over cooked...even more devastating is when it is still served. Along with this, the steak was quite small. For $50, a small steak is fine, but it at least better be cooked perfectly. My friend asked why I wouldn't send it back to the kitchen, just not my style. I don't send things back, I just don't come back. Overall vibe of the place was great. Nice bar, plenty of room, nice and cool (extra points since it was a hot day 100°+). I really wish I enjoyed the food because the ambiance made me want to come back. Unfortunately in a city like Sacramento, where you can find some of the best food, there's no point in giving second chances.

Yelp
One of my friend's favorite. Have to say, I know why. The food was good and service was exceptional. Went there for lunch. I'm sure dinner would be even better. Started with pate. Then had the cob salad and fish & chip. No room for desert. Definitely next time!

Yelp
Finally made it to hawks a place I'd been wanting to try for awhile now! The place is adorable. Very well decorated, a cute quaint place! A good place for a cute Insta photo? Feel me! Started off with a extra dirty martini. I didn't love how the server didn't ask my vodka preference. When I tried it it definitely wasn't great. Switched over to this pomegranate gin and tonic. It was amazing!!!! 20/10!!!!! The flavor. The presentation. I was dining with my Costa Rican friend and she said it was like the gin and tonics they serve back home. For food we started with Brussels as an app. So great! Cooked to perfection. We then had two entrees that they split for us before coming out. The pork pasta and the dumpling soup. The pasta was amazing! The soup was amazing! Can't go wrong with the food at this place! Looking forward to coming back for dinner!!!!

Yelp
I've been to Hawks once or twice before. The food is very good every time I've been here. This time I ordered the burger. It does look small, but it was made perfectly. The burger tasted great and with the fries it was just perfect to my satisfaction. I wasn't overly full and I wasn't left hungry. The place does get busy often. It's best to get a reservation. The staff was very nice. I had a great experience!

Yelp
Hawks has been on my "to try" list since it opened but I've never found the opportunity to try it. Recently, I met a friend here for dinner on a Thursday night. I made a reservation for the two of us and was glad to have it, as the restaurant is quite small. The service was friendly and attentive, and our waiter made wonderful recommendations for both food and cocktails. To start, we each ordered a cocktail - I tried my first ever Cosmopolitan and my friend ordered their G&T. The cocktails were refreshing and delicious. For food, we started with their mortadella with their fresh bread. For my entree, I opted for their rigatoni with pork should ragu (yummmmmmm) while my friend ordered their half rack of ribs (also yummm). It is a pricier spot in Sacramento but the quality and ambience make it all worth it. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Since moving to the area, we can honestly say this is the best meal we've had in Sac. Everything was delicious, the burger, Caesar salad and the soup were superb. The staff was very friendly and didn't mind splitting all the items for us to share. It's a beautifully designed space with cozy smells of a wood burning oven. We can't wait to return, this place is drastically underrated.
