Best places to drink whiskey in Las Vegas | Eater Vegas

"Mandalay Bay’s lobby bar Hazel offers modern and classic takes on cocktails, including the Old Fashioned. The classic version features Henry McKenna 10 Year bourbon, demerara syrup, angostura bitters, and an orange peel, while the modern interpretation uses Laird’s apple brandy, Kikori Japanese whiskey, ginger syrup, and Angostura bitters, served smoked in a pipe-like glass." - Krista Diamond

Hazel cocktail and coffee bar heads to the Strip - Eater Vegas

"Hazel Coffee Cocktail arrives at Mandalay Bay in early 2019 with live entertainment, craft cocktails, and specialty coffee and tea. MGM Resorts International executive director of beverage Craig Schoettler created the cocktail menu that mixes classic cocktails and modern takes. Manhattans, Old Fashioned, martinis, and beyond make the menu. At night, the bar offers free snacks. In the morning, Lamill Coffee drinks including espresso beverages pump out the caffeine. The lounge also plans to offer breakfast and lunch dishes such as parfaits, sandwiches, salads, and more. Bishop Pass designed Hazel to become the resort’s “living room” with gold lounge sofas, green velvet chairs or cobalt-blue Chesterfield banquettes. Deep blues, greens, and chartreuse make up the color scheme while brass, dark wood, and antique mirrors give the space an old-world European feel. A large marble-top bar with chestnut leather armrests will look onto a brass-shelved liquor display illuminated by matching brass fixtures. Hazel takes over the former Orchid Lounge space." - Susan Stapleton

White mocha didn’t taste like white mocha at all. They serve the same pastries across the hotel, but my almond croissant had a chemical taste for some reason. Line was so long I didn’t bother with getting a replacement. Wildly expensive so rating critically.

Google
We had food delivered to take up to the room and realized they didn’t include a fork. I asked the bartender for a fork to take up to the room, we were not drinking or staying at the bar/cafe. He insisted on seeing my ID before giving us a fork (I am 29)??? I even clarified with him that we were not staying or ordering alcohol, just grabbing a fork to go. My wallet was up in the hotel room, so my friend offered to show her ID if it meant we could have a fork. He said it did not matter, he only needed to see my ID, and refused to give us a fork. So we left without a fork. It was the absolute most inconvenient, unprofessional, ridiculous, rude interaction I’ve ever had. Coffee was not good either.

Greg was an absolute delight! Not only was he a phenomenal mixologist, he also had great conversation. See Greg for all your adult beverage needs if you’re in town!

Google is showing that Hazel Coffee & Cocktails should be open in the early afternoon but I’ve gone 2 days in a row and it’s closed. Yesterday they said they had a private event but no employees were there today. Can you please update your hours on Google?

Google
The Espresso Martini (The Modern) was not too sweet. I enjoyed it. Great atmosphere. Given thel name of the establishment, I thought they would offer more than just an Espresso Martini (they have two options, The Classic and the Modern) for coffee-based cocktails. For my second drink, I had a bartender make me a custom choice cocktail.

Google
Do NOT bother w/ the breakfast sandwiches. Sad looking excuses for food, besides being $14.49. Yes, everything is over priced in Vegas, but you should be getting some good food for the price. Staff was lovely though.

Google
If you love generic coffee and pastries and hate having money then this is the place for you! $40 for 2 coffees and 2 pastries. Jokes on me for stopping by here! Save yourself and get coffee once you’ve left the resort

Google
We were just here for an hour as we waited for our host to get to the rooftop of Mandalay Bay. Our experience was very pleasant. Justin, the bartender was friendly and prepared some of the best drinks we had that night. He took his time to prepare the drinks which shows his dedication. We had a spicy margarita, an old fashion, Manhattan and martini. The live music added more fun to the evening. Highly recommend a drink or two at the Hazel!

Yelp
The breakfast sandwich is a real rip off!! $14.49 Staff was great though. Wouldn't come back. I understand everything is over priced in Vegas, but this thing is pathetic

Yelp
After a little bit of losing money at the slot machines , I needed a cocktail! Stopped at Hazel Coffee & cocktails and ordered a modern cosmo. Honestly, I prefer the original cosmo. Atmosphere was cute and laid back. If visiting Mandalay Bay- stop by for a cocktail !

Yelp
A gorgeous coffee lounge and cafe. Conveniently located in the lobby of Mandalay Bay. They have and small breakfast menu but substantial. Excellent coffee break with comfortable seating and tables throughout the open spacious lounge. The coffee bar was in the center surrounded with various club chairs and couches, swivel chairs and low profile tables. Curtains gracefully soften the perimeter to create a separate space within the venue. Great service that can keep up with the orders. Fresh coffee and a warmed croissant sandwich was enjoyable while relaxing at Mandalay.

Yelp
Breakfast and coffee. I would recommend for an easy quick simple stop in the morning. Less busy than Starbucks and other places. It's right off the elevators at Mandalay Bay and perfect for people staying. Normal coffee menu most places have and some quick easy breakfast items.

Yelp
Short wait in line on a Saturday morning. AMAZING latte. Then, we sat in some comfy chairs in their lounge area. I can't find anything in this hotel, it's so big. But, this is easy to find from the lobby. Nice/polite service as well.

Yelp
I've seen Hazel Coffee & Cocktails in passing while walking through Mandalay's casino in the past, but I never had the chance to stop by until recently. My fiance and I stayed at Mandalay Bay, so Hazel Coffee & Cocktails was hard to miss as it's right by the elevators to the rooms. I had a long day and a late check-in, so an espresso martini was a must. We stopped by the bar around 9pm on Thanksgiving Day. The number of guests was sparse, which I expected for a major holiday. On the flipside, I've seen this bar be cracking on other days. The cocktail menu was pretty basic. You'll find all the classic cocktails with minimal variations. Ro is the man! He was our bartender for the night. Not only did he whip up a delicious espresso martini for me, but he was also a nice guy and a great conversationalist. (Ask him for restaurant recs!)

Yelp
One side a bar, the other side a barista. In Vegas, why not. Since it was 9:30am, I opted for the barista side and ordered a hot latte. The medium size was a good amount of coffee. The staff was working hard to get through a never ending long line. Coffee was fresh tasting and nice and hot. I good ending to my breakfast and a nice to-go cup allowed me to take it with me on the tram back to the Excalibur.
google avatar

Hoy J.

Yelp
Wow coffee and food so expensive which is fine because the ambiance is nice and it's Vegas but I WOULD NEVER EVER COME HERE AGAIN DUE TO THE STAFFS WITH ATTITUDE PROBLEMS! A $10 croissant and she did not even microwave it and when I ask her to she gave me an attitude.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice bar in Mandalay Bay Casino. If you want to watch sports, they had every TV tuned in, and had the volume high. There is nice seating all over, with comfortable chairs and couches, as well as a bar. I opted for a lemon drop martini and it was definitely a good one. Perfect balance of ingredients and it was nice and cold.

Yelp
A Very Classy establishment! Located in Mandalay Bay, unfortunately we came because if the name... some wanted coffee some wanted a drink, what a perfect combination of the two... we get there just to be told they can't make anymore coffee because they just cleaned the machine. They had live entertainment (that night was taking requests, played some Bob Marley to alternative) and the drinks were extremely strong, so much that I couldn't even have more than a sip without breathing fire. The men drank the rest. Mind you we could order an espresso martini but not a coffee drink. Didn't make sense now and as I write this.... doesn't make sense now. Anyhow, we finished the two drinks and left. Dont think we would return. The service was not friendly for a cocktail establishment, not sure if they expected a certain dress code as we were all kind of dressed down for the day. In any event, this was not the lounge for us.

Yelp
Stopped by for some iced coffee here in the morning. The lady who took my order was very nice. I got an iced white mocha coffee (half sweet) and it was really good. The place is nice and have bar stools or little couches to sit on.

Sasha K.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the offer of coffee and cocktails. Coffee is apparently only available in the morning. Service was not great and we were served flat Prosecco.
google avatar

Carol P.

Yelp
Fun place to enjoy expensive, strong cocktails (Vegas pricing for sure), watch a game, people watch, or listen to live music. Appears more upscale but totally welcoming to a casual crowd. Open seating with cocktail servers who were pretty good about checking on us for drinks. Loved the atmosphere and vibe after a Raiders home game!
google avatar

Yelp
Nice atmosphere right inside the hotel next to the slot machines. They played nice upbeat coffeehouse music, but due to the casino it was very loud (the right Vegas feel). The line wasn't very long and two women were taking orders while one made the drinks. I only waited 3-4 mins for my order. It is right off the elevators and perfectly located for convenience. With a limited menu, but enough for someone needing a quick bite and caffeine. The ham and cheese croissant was great! The chai tea latte with almond milk and and add shot was VERY bland. Would not recommend if you like a flavorful chai. Wish I was staying longer to try another drink and see if the chai is an exception or the rule.

Yelp
Great place to get a drink and just relax. There was a musician singing and playing a guitar and he was absolutely amazing!! My boyfriend and I were amazed and ended our night there. After a chaotic weekend in Vegas we were happy to end our night calmly enjoying the music. The lounge is very beautiful and the seats are comfortable. The waiters are friendly and people in general in this hotel are friendly.

Yelp
We recently visited (11-17-2023 about 11:14 pm) at Mandalay Bay resort casino and decided to stop by Hazel Coffee and Cocktails. This turned out to be a waste of time. Let me explain. After a flight and check in, we decided that we'd go out in search of cocktails. We had passed Hazel on our way up, and strolled down. There was no greeter, so we seated ourselves. The bartender was busy chatting and taking care of his few seated patrons and made no eye contact with, but we found seats anyway. A few minutes went by, a woman that looked like a waitress passed by with no eye contact, another was busy cleaning up something a few feet away with a lobby broom and pan. A few more minutes went by, the place was mostly empty BTW. The bartender continued to ignore us. Finally, my wife caught the eye of someone with a tray who was also trying to ignore us (perhaps we didn't look like big tippers). When she came over and asked her what we wanted, my response "better service, we have been here for a while" didn't sit well with her and her attitude returned it. End result, we left and found another place, spent a hundred bucks or so and enjoyed ourselves immensely. Lesson, Hazel - greet or make eye contact with the folks who pay your wages, and perhaps take an order before policing the area for dropped napkins.

Yelp
It was past midnight and after it took us a very long time to even get to Mandalay Bay via car after the BTS concert at Allegiant, my group wanted a place to sit and to enjoy some refreshments. Hazel was still open until 2 am per the Mandalay Bay website so we headed over there. You seat yourself and someone comes over to take your order. I originally wanted tea that they had on their online menu but unfortunately, what Mandalay Bay's website had posted for their menu was incorrect, so I ordered a Diet Pepsi instead ($5). No refills on the soda. What was also incorrect on the Mandalay Bay's website were their hours -- instead of closing at 2 am on a Friday, they were open until 1 am. Didn't have much time to drink what I ordered, so my friends and I took our drinks upstairs. Hopefully they start extending their hours soon and update their menu online.

Yelp
Such a cute bar right off of the casino and hobby lobby. I didn't know it was a coffee spot as well. Right after getting off the elevator, live music was going on. Stopped off for a drink, as I had no plans for gambling at the moment. And was waiting for friends. Sat at the bar and was enjoying the live band that was happening. There's two side, both bar side but I believe one is where the coffee section is in the morning. Plush chair and sofa sectioned through the lounge. Chatted with all the bar tenders whom are very friendly. People watching is the best here as well. It was getting busy with people stopping by and watching the singer and dancing. I believe they have a live band nightly till midnight. Also, think last call maybe around midnight or slightly after. Cool bar lounge for cocktails. Perfect for people watching or just lounging before your night of fun.

Yelp
Used our resort credit towards a quick breakfast. Tried the bacon & egg sandwich, ham & cheese croissant & chocolate croissant. All warm & delicious for a quick bite. The hot Americano & iced breeds coffee were deep & dark, did the job.
google avatar

Steve A.

Yelp
Hazel is good. It's also all pretty expensive. Whether it's coffee or cocktails, you'll be emptying your wallet. Staff are friendly. They just like to bilk you. I have only been here for alcohol. I think it's way too expensive. The coffee seems to be ridiculously overpriced too. It probably at least tastes good. They make their own coffee supposedly. It wouldn't be shocking if they got it from somewhere else. They also serve breakfast pastries. As for the cocktails, they are way too much. Even Budweiser is more than $7, which is stunning. That's too much for basically water. Cocktails are $15 or more. They aren't even anything special. It's just basic bottom shelf liquor. They charge you like it's top shelf. Also, it's not always open like many casino bars. They close up for a few hours and open for coffee and pastries. It would be okay except for the prices. Many people in here have too much money so they don't care. Well, fuck them.

Brent P.

Yelp
Lemon drop. Well made. Live music. Nice spot to pre game and start your night or end it.

Denise W.

Yelp
Amaldo was a fantastic bartender who went the extra mile. The atmosphere was nice and it's a great place to relax and get a drink.
google avatar

Reaven J.

Yelp
Amber helped me out today and blessed me with the best iced vanilla americano I've had in Vegas!! She was helpful and her service was extra quick! Thanks Amber!! The lemon drop is also 10/10! Skip Starbucks and come here for coffee and cocktails!
google avatar

Kristy T.

Yelp
Nice coffee shop near the elevators so convenient for that morning coffee . It becomes a bar later in the day and has nice cozy seating areas. Friendly staff .
google avatar

Iniki L.

Yelp
Hands down best espresso martini EVER! If your ever in the Mandalay Bay, check out this bar by the lobby and order an espresso martini, the staff is nice and they have live music at night on the weekends!
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
Horrific latte. Also when your making peoples drinks please don't use cleaning solution and drip it over the drinks. Undrinkable....
google avatar

Yelp
I love this bar/ lounge located in Mandalay Bay! The espresso martini is to die for! The service and live music is amazing. This is my go to spot on Friday and Saturday nights.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
The two David's working the bar do a phenomenal job. Great mixologists but not only that, great with customer service. Jeff was also great as well and has an amazing mustache lol. But for real, these 3 guys were personable, gave us recommendations for not only drinks, but places and things to do while in town. The bar is massive and they have tons of seating and standing room to meet new people, network, and have fun. The coasters are branded with a H and they are leather. Very classy. I love how bright and fun the vibe is here. It's inviting, warming and not dark like some of the others I have seen. Although I don't drink coffee, we did have drinks and they were made great. This is the closest bar to the elevators and it is easy access to get there. I would definitely be back and set up meetings for next time I want to grab a drink with someone that I can also talk business with. Good work gents.

Jay W.

Yelp
Had the best espresso martini. Was very very good. Get the classic version. The modern version was a bit bitter and I didn't care for it.
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
This place is kind of weird. During the daytime it's a pseudo-coffee shop in the lobby of this hotel. But then in the evening it turns into a bar with people performing music. I guess I just don't understand Las Vegas. The coffee in the morning was OK. It was only after a day or two that I discovered there was a Starbucks way across on the other side of the casino. One night after having attended a wedding and reception at the house of blues we came back here for some drinks. I just had glasses of wine so I can't say anything about the quality of the drinks. But of course there's always the weird smell coming from the casino right next-door.
google avatar

Yassar F.

Yelp
I came here for an iced mocha coffee which was about $8. They do not sell blended coffee drinks. They have a variety of coffee, espressos, pastries and breakfast sandwiches. The seating area was very nice with a bunch of comfy leather couches. At night the place doubles as a bar. I loved that this was located right by the hotel elevators. The Starbucks is all the way on the other side of the hotel and had about 20 people in line when I walked by it.
google avatar

Marco R.

Yelp
Terrible morning service for coffee .. the "barista" if you can call her that, has no clue how to fulfill orders .. the product is actually decent but the service is absolutely horrible hence the one UPDATE: if you go there at night you're better off ordering from the bar as the waitresses are so disinterested they must not like money
google avatar

Dan A.

Yelp
Incredible drinks at Hazel Coffee & Cocktails in Mandalay Bay Las Vegas. I tried their wonderful Mojito during a quick meeting and loved it. The service is incredibly friendly and the small elegant space is just perfect. I would return to try additional items. This is a fun place.
google avatar

Cara D.

Yelp
Im a local, been to Mandalay Bay several times, BUT never here. What a nice surprise:-) I was 2 hours early for a concert, and needed somewhere to chill. And, I'm by myself. This place is great! My server, Cathy, she was nice, and chatted with me for a bit, maybe because I was alone. Either way made me feel more comfortable. I appreciated it. I will definitely be back, next time with friends:-)
google avatar

Scott T.

Yelp
Avoid the lines at Starbucks. They offer a fair amount of drinks including flat whites, cortados, single origin drip and all the rest. Full alcohol bar too! Sandwiches and pastries!
google avatar

Amanda J.

Yelp
Pricey, as most things are to be expected in the lobby of a hotel/casino. The food is good and quick though and service is really friendly. They have a great seating area to hangout for a bit too. With that being said, it would be nice if they used dish ware for people seating down. A mug is always better than a to go cup!
google avatar

Rain D.

Yelp
Great service, delicious crepes! The owner makes them semi-thick with wonderful flavor. Their custard is sooooo creamy and refreshing. Not too much sugar at ALL! Definitely a great spring/summer/fall stop in!
google avatar

William F.

Yelp
I visited this for a few days. It was good, but very expensive relative to the Starbucks a 3 minute walk away. The coffees are very strong, which I liked. My wife thought her flat white was too bitter. If you are a Starbucks person, try it one time. Then, go to the Starbucks next to the House of Blues-its a real Starbucks, and more reasonably priced.
google avatar

Amy W.

Yelp
I walked in and sat at a table, read the menu and looked up at the waitress. The cocktail waitress made eye contact with me, then walked over to her coworker to gossip. So I decided to order from the bar. I walked over to the bar and stood at the bar for a long time waiting for the bartender to wrap up his conversation with another customer. He turned and asked if I had been helped. I said no, he threw down a menu in front of me, told me to look over the cocktails and he would be back. Finally another bartender came over and took my order. He made my drink (hot toddy) $18. The drink was so bland. Waste of time and money. It isn't anything special so don't waste your time. The decor is nice, customer service isn't the best and the drinks could be a lot better.

Lynda F.

Yelp
Quick breakfast and coffee. The bacon ,egg, and cheese on brioche was overdone and over heated. Vanilla latte was good. Staff was efficient and pleasant.. The line is shorter than Starbucks so will work if you are in a hurry.
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
This is a special place within Mandalay Bay because along with their really interesting drink menu (all speciality cocktails have both traditional and modern takes on famous beverages to keep discerning patrons happy), they offer some unexpected but refreshing service. Hazel's bartenders are approachable, friendly, and skilled. My man David in particular was legit one of the best bartenders I've ever met, even remembering my name after only 2 prior visits! He hooked me up with this awesome old fashioned that included a smoke chamber to increase the flavor and even gave me some cups of hot water to go for my parents who were about to have some tea before bed. He's just got great energy and it really makes you relax in a fast-paced environment. Prices are pretty high but standard for the strip. If you're in the Mandalay Bay, check out Hazel, which also offers some bomb espresso. It's right near the elevators and open late!
google avatar

Frank L.

Yelp
Located inside Mandalay Bay Casino great place to meet up with friends before or after the evening's events. Live music performed various nights on weekends for sure. With the coffee aspect have the option of a wonderful non-alcoholic beverage if desired. Specialty alcoholic drinks also available. Nice place to wrap up the evening too. Lots of comfortable sitting areas.

Lizzie U.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stopped here for drinks before going out to dinner and the drinks and service were amazing! I got a glass of wine and he got the classic manhattan. Our bartender, Jeff, was AMAZING!!! He was so personable and talked with us while we were there. He was a great bartender. After our first round, he asked what we liked to drink and made us drinks specifically to what we liked. He even made a drink that he created himself and won in a competition for my boyfriend!! I would definitely recommend this place for drinks!
google avatar

Betty S.

Yelp
Wow such great coffee loved it! The service was ehhh but the pastries and coffee were excellent! Great way to start the day :)
google avatar

Romey L.

Yelp
Love this place. David the bartender suggested an expression martini and I was hesitant. The first sip blew me away! Great place and nice vibes.

Rick D.

Yelp
Slowest and Worst service I have ever experienced in Las Vegas. 1 person serving line of 12 people. 13 mins to get a cup of coffee. Newly remodeled area with comfortable couches and seating. No signs in bar area that say this is a non smoking area. Maria screams across the bar at me that sir there is no smoking here. Embarrassed me. She Simply could have walked up and told me. I have been a Mandalay Delano Customer for years and will never come Back. Management should stand in line and see how long it takes to get a coffee and bagel and inspect the level of work effort and politeness from their staff.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
We came here on a late Wednesday afternoon after attending a conference all day at the Mandalay Bay. The bar is large and well stocked, but the bartender left a lot to be desired - it was apparent she was having a very bad day and was very unpleasant and had a perpetual scowl and generally made my coworkers uncomfortable, so much so we decided to leave after one drink and take it elsewhere. I would give this bar a pass and move on to somewhere else.

Camila O.

Yelp
Modern espresso martini to dieeee for. Service was great and they have these addicting cheese bites as snacks. Great drink presentation and really cool modern twists to all the popular classics
google avatar

Casie W.

Yelp
For starters this hotel was beautiful and the bar is a really great atmosphere with chic ambiance. I am a lover of lemon flavored everything so naturally I get the lemon flavored martini (first time martini too!) which was very good however I then took a sip of my friends espresso martini and it blew my normal go to flavor out of the water. You cannot go wrong with a martini here! The next time I then ordered the espresso martini myself!
google avatar

Callie T.

Yelp
This is a great spot to grab a quick coffee and the sticky buns are amazing!! Then in the afternoon they switch over to serving cocktails... it's the perfect spot to start and end your day!
