"During the week, Hold Out is one of our favorite spots to sit outside with a burger, some wings, and a beer—this Clarksville brewpub seems to do it all. Adding further to its list of food accomplishments is the weekend brunch menu. And while you can (and probably should) get a burger at brunch to share with the table, most of the menu is made up of creative takes on classic breakfast items that you’ll want to make a part of your order. Tacos arrive topped with a whole fried egg and tender carnitas, while pancakes get the Japanese soufflé treatment—puffed up to about a fluffy inch—before getting topped with fried chicken, maple-fresno chili butter, and maple syrup." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion, matthew jacobs
"Hold Out's burger is made up of pretty simple ingredients—shredded lettuce, French’s mustard, american cheese—but the execution is what sets this apart from whatever burgers your friend is making on the grill in their backyard. Two super-thin patties (because you should be getting the double) manage to defy physics by being juicy and crispy at the same time, and a layer of comeback sauce adds a nice bit of tanginess." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion, matthew jacobs
"Typically, we associate brewery food with small, light bites optimized for soaking up a few beers. But Hold Out is an exception to the rule and a place that we’ll visit for the food alone. During the week, we’re here for the double smashburger or an order of Thai PB&J wings, but once the weekend rolls around we also like to come here for brunch. The patio holds plenty of tables, and they’re all first come, first served, which means you can get Japanese souffle pancakes with crispy fried chicken and maple-fresno chili butter on a whim." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion
"The Clarksville-adjacent brewery from the Better Half/Brew & Brew/Little Brother/Bummer Burrito teams succeeds by understanding modern Austin. The beer lineup is forward-thinking and creative, while its social media and general vibe speaks to a slacker ethos at heart; if the brewery were an indie band, it would be Pavement. The food menu satisfies perennial bar cravings: smash burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, and wings, and there are a few vegetarian options like chana masala Frito pies. For beer, the House Beer is a certified porch pounder, and there’s also frozen cocktails and other offerings. There is a huge patio for friendly gatherings, and it’s a great pre-game spot before Downtown events." - Erin Russell
"Hold Out Brewing is a one-stop shop that makes some of the best burgers and wings in town. Add in their stellar beer and patio complete with plenty of shade and lots of dogs, and you hardly need a reason to ever leave Clarksville. Except, maybe for the occasional H-E-B run. On the menu you’ll find a mix of classic bar food and inventive riffs, ranging from a simple (and excellent) smashburger to Frito pies topped with chana masala and coconut yogurt raita. After dinner, grab a crowler of your favorite beer to bring home." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs, max bonem
