11 Great New Bars in Austin: Where To Drink Right Now

"Sure, Hopscotch might function partially as a pre-dinner waiting area for Elementary on South Lamar. But drinks like refreshing cucumber-and-snap-pea martinis and tart passion fruit daiquiris make this natural wine bar/cocktail spot worth a visit of its own, particularly during Austin’s never-ending summer. The bites mostly consist of tinned fish and snack boards—grab whatever bread and cheese comes with the sweet and tangy tomato honey, then work your way through the small menu of cocktails, or just have the bartender whip something up. And because this is technically a natural wine bar, there’s also a small list of wines by the glass, and a much bigger list of wines by the bottle (or to take home).  " - nicolai mccrary

The 8 Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings of Summer 2023 | Bon Appétit

New Wine Bar Hopscotch Is Opening in Austin - Eater Austin

"Hopscotch will work as a small space — only 15 bar seats — serving natural wines, cocktails, tinned fish, and other snacks. Co-owners Colter Peck, Chris Arial, and Allan Bautista see the wine bar as a space to minimize food waste from Elementary’s kitchen, to use up food trimmings. This means that the menu will change often and quickly." - Nadia Chaudhury

Chris was so nice! The gochujang sour is my favorite drink on the menu at the moment. Dangerously good! I’ve never had a bad time here, and I’ll never stop recommending this place. The drinks are inventive, the staff is welcoming, and the atmosphere is cozy. I love having the option to sip on a tiny ‘tini (half-sized), for the nights where a full martini is a bit much. The rotating desserts from Elementary are always a great little snack, too. So many reasons to love this Hopscotch. I could rave about this place all day!

Great vibes. Nice addition to the neighborhood. Interesting and diverse wine list full of new discoveries that are strong. Staff engaged and polite. Too damn cold. Would have stayed way longer but the my friends we absolutely freezing and wanted to leave. Ended up drinking out front for a bit. Shame as we would have bought way more wine!

Yelp
Heard their sister restaurant closed recently but wanted to make sure a review for this great place was made soon. Hopscotch feels like the best neighborhood wine bar in a lot of ways. It's a small little bar sharing a parking lot with Golden goose and elementary (rip). They validate parking. The bartenders are so friendly and we recognized one of the guys as having previously worked at Bosses Office. The wine selection is great! Lots of variety and the bartenders can help find you something for your palate if you're having trouble too decide. They also have decent happy hour specials but the prices are super reasonable even if you don't go during hh.

Yelp
Used as the intimate waiting area for Elementary, this small bar is located in the old Tiny Pies location off S Lamar. They serve up tinned fish, wines, and one heck of a tasty espresso martini. We went just for drinks and our server was engrossed in a book, and she was both attentive and non-intrusive. We came for just drinks and a quick gnosh and a chat after work- it's a good spot for that.

Yelp
The sister wine bar to Elementary, it's a quaint, quiet wine bar with not only a great wine selection, but cocktails as well! They have popcorn, olives, tinned fish, and the wagu burger from next door available for food. They did not have the wine I wanted, and the bartender was happy to help me choose a replacement, and was not offended in the least when I did not like the first replacement choice she offered. She was super helpful, and made sure that I was happy! They offer a special on bottles they are trying to clear out, and have a HH daily! The burger was absolutely amazing, but I felt bad that she had to leave the bar to go get it from the restaurant, and carry it back over to me. Another on-site snack or two would be perfect for the future!

Yelp
We stepped into Hopscotch for an after dinner cocktail because The Golden Goose was too loud and busy for what we were in the mood for. Hopscotch was perfect. It's a quiet, cute little wine bar. The cocktails, the service and the ambiance were all stellar. We'll be back!

Yelp
Not much to say, the staff was great. The wine selection was fine. The martinis are what you want to come here for, they were excellent. Odd thing the offer is a variety of canned sardines. Overall we'll be back!
