"Situated at the foot of the Graukogel Mountain and only an 8-minute walk from the centre, Hotel Miramonte enjoys a unique location overlooking the entire Gastein Valley. The sun terrace offers panoramic mountain views. The Miramonte Aveda Spa provides professional massages, a thermal spring, and a jacuzzi. Guests can also relax in the panoramic sauna and in the large relaxation room overlooking the mountains. Yoga lessons and guided mountain tours are offered several times a week. All of the individually designed rooms feature large balconies with valley views, flat-screen satellite TVs, and a bathroom. Wi-Fi access is free of charge in the entire hotel. The rich breakfast buffet and a breakfast for late risers are served in the dining room. The Miramonte’s restaurant serves light and innovative Slow Food cuisine in the evening. Guests can also have a glass of wine at the bar or try the homemade beer. The famous Bad Gastein Waterfall and the casino are only 300 metres away. "Like the perfect martini, Miramonte is sharp and chilled, with a dash of 60s glam. Viennese architect Ike Ikrath has shaken up a traditional chalet hotel and stirred in modernist details with flair: designer chairs with sheepskin rugs in the restaurant; futuristic steel tables in the bar; avant-garde art on the walls. The 36 rooms are scrubbed and simple, film-set chic, and the overall style is nostalgic, its relaxed vibe aimed at boho, sporty grown-ups. During the day, there's superb Alpine skiing or hiking and biking, depending on the season. Late afternoon might mean a snooze on the sunny terrace overlooking the mountains or a soak in the Aveda spa’s thermal baths. Evening meals are friendly, with delicious dishes and wine consumed at communal tables if you book half board. Later, couples mingle by the fire pit while amiable hip staff serve up gin cocktails and mellow music. Our visit was fun but fleeting, and we can't wait to re-join Austria’s artists, actors and creative set who have claimed Miramonte as their own. "Viennese architect Ike Ikrath (who, together with his wife, also owns the Haus Hirt down the hill), has managed to create a hotel with both the charm of a traditional Alpine chalet and the flair of a high-design hotel. Rooms have a retro feel, with 50’s style chairs and brightly-tiled bathrooms. Panorama rooms have long balconies with sweeping views of the Gastein valley; some also have hammocks, for really soaking up the vista. For literal soaking, the Aveda spa has therapeutic thermal baths fed straight from Bad Gastein’s healing waters, alongside twice-daily yoga classes.
