The Best Restaurants and Food-Focused Hotels in the Alps | Eater

"A polished midcentury revival that preserves 1950s style through vintage furnishings and a curated palette, offering expansive valley views from a lobby often enjoyed with a flute of Champagne; its restaurant reimagines old-fashioned dishes using organic, locally sourced ingredients and a robust selection of vegetarian and vegan options, with house-brewed beers and grilled fish served on an unheated terrace even in winter." - Michelle Tchea

Hotel Miramonte, Bad Gastein, Austria - Explore & Book

"Like the perfect martini, Miramonte is sharp and chilled, with a dash of 60s glam. Viennese architect Ike Ikrath has shaken up a traditional chalet hotel and stirred in modernist details with flair: designer chairs with sheepskin rugs in the restaurant; futuristic steel tables in the bar; avant-garde art on the walls. The 36 rooms are scrubbed and simple, film-set chic, and the overall style is nostalgic, its relaxed vibe aimed at boho, sporty grown-ups. During the day, there's superb Alpine skiing or hiking and biking, depending on the season. Late afternoon might mean a snooze on the sunny terrace overlooking the mountains or a soak in the Aveda spa’s thermal baths. Evening meals are friendly, with delicious dishes and wine consumed at communal tables if you book half board. Later, couples mingle by the fire pit while amiable hip staff serve up gin cocktails and mellow music. Our visit was fun but fleeting, and we can't wait to re-join Austria’s artists, actors and creative set who have claimed Miramonte as their own. Highs Revitalising valley views; book a Panorama Room with a balcony for extra wow We loved the cool vibe and grown-up atmosphere: adventurous couples will be in their element Bad Gastein’s famous hot spring bubbles right into the hotel – spa baths in radon-enhanced waters are both soothing and rejuvenating The hotel can help with ski and bike hire, and has its own ski storage and heated boot-drying racks Lots of extras are included in the rates: shuttles to the station & slopes, afternoon tea, open-air movie nights, coffee and pastries, DJs and live music nights Lows The drive here can be tricky and there's limited on-street parallel parking (fun in the snow!). You're best off getting a transfer No twin rooms Meals at communal tables may not suit romance-seeking couples, but this is entirely optional Traditional saunas are shared with both genders and taken in the nude. Not necessarily a low but something to be aware of!" - Imogen Cox

Design Hotel Miramonte | Best ski hotels in Europe

"Viennese architect Ike Ikrath (who, together with his wife, also owns the Haus Hirt down the hill), has managed to create a hotel with both the charm of a traditional Alpine chalet and the flair of a high-design hotel. Rooms have a retro feel, with 50’s style chairs and brightly-tiled bathrooms. Panorama rooms have long balconies with sweeping views of the Gastein valley; some also have hammocks, for really soaking up the vista. For literal soaking, the Aveda spa has therapeutic thermal baths fed straight from Bad Gastein’s healing waters, alongside twice-daily yoga classes. Apres-ski sustenance comes in the form of afternoon tea and four-course dinners, with good vegan options. " - Nicola Iseard

This charming retro-style hotel combines character with comfort. The property is exceptionally clean and well maintained, creating a welcoming atmosphere from the very first impression. Rooms are stylish, and comfortable; however, due to the nearby waterfall, guests should be aware that the sound of running water is constant. For nature lovers, it adds a unique and relaxing touch, but it may feel a little noisy to others. The staff deserve special recognition – they are genuinely warm, attentive, and always willing to assist, which made the stay feel personal and memorable. The views from the hotel are truly spectacular. Dining is generally enjoyable, though somewhat inconsistent. While the food is tasty, the breakfast menu remains the same each day, which could become repetitive for longer stays. On the positive side, the hotel offers yoga sessions and a beautifully maintained spa area with a variety of treatments, providing excellent opportunities for relaxation and wellness. Highly recommend

Lovely hotel, very friendly and helpful. Comfortable stay. Amazing view from the balcony!! We stayed during our alpe-adria cycle tour and there was a safe place to store the bikes. Some vegan options at breakfast too. They also do afternoon snacks/soup which was tasty too!

We are two cyclists on the Alpe Adria route and we loved our stay here. The welcome was friendly and the hotel has a lovely feel. The view from the balcony was a proper treat. We are also vegan and the hotel were able to accommodate this at breakfast and the staff were knowledgeable about what vegan means so that’s a big plus. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Very nice hotel: cozy, beautifully designed, and with a special, warm vibe. The breakfast was fantastic, and the light lunch/snack offered in the afternoon was a lovely touch. My room was pleasant, though it could have used some minor touch-up. One day it wasn’t cleaned, and when I mentioned it to the receptionist, she seemed quite unbothered. It also would have been helpful to receive more information in advance about the activities organized by the partner hotel, Haus Hirt. I wasn’t informed and only found out, after asking for the program, that I had just missed an activity that sounded really interesting. I tried the yoga class in the nearby center and it was nice. The spa area is nice, and the sauna (with a lovely view) is free to use. I didn’t try the massage. They also offer a “thermal bath” treatment, but honestly, it was a small room with a bath tub that didn’t look very inviting. The thermal center in Bad Gastein is much better! Lastly, the WIFI doesn't work in the room, only in the restaurant area. It was not a big deal for me but for some I assume it could be problematic.

We recently had an unfortunate accident that forced us to cancel our holiday immediately. Every other business involved in our trip—airline, ski rental, and other facilities—showed great understanding and promptly refunded our bookings without hesitation. Their kindness and professionalism made a difficult situation a little easier to bear.||Unfortunately, this hotel was the only exception. Not only did they refuse to refund our stay, but they also charged us for three nights in a room we couldn’t use. What’s even more disappointing is that they didn’t show the slightest bit of empathy—no inquiry about our well-being, no offer to help, just a cold transaction.||On a skiing trip, accidents can happen to anyone, and the way a hotel handles such situations says a lot about their values. If you’re planning a trip here, keep this in mind when making a booking. Good customer service and basic human decency make all the difference, and sadly, this hotel failed on both fronts. We won’t be booking here again and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who values compassionate and understanding hospitality.

Hello,|Thank you very much for your service during our stay from 6th till 9th June 2024.We really enjoyed our stay well. The hotel itself is difficult to describe, it is mix of everything old & new stuff but has very nice atmosphere indeed. Location is perfect for summer holiday and food (we had HB) was simple & delicious. Fri BBQ was simple great. We had a nice room with fantastic mountains view, therefore during our stay we do not need to ‘’turn on’’ a small TV :)

Yelp
Lovely hotel for skiing or a seminar. The rooms are comfy, the common spaces are welcoming and stylish, and the staff is BEYOND AMAZING. We might have partied too hard, and they were kind and patient with us even when the behavior was not the best. The breakfast was an absolute joy every morning - loads of options, everything fresh and house-made. The bar was also great, with great bartenders who knew their stuff. Also a shout out to Christian for the massage, expert healing therapy for a sore back.

Yelp
Such a great hotel! The staff is so friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, well maintained and have great views. The spa is so relaxing, two saunas. Thermal baths and lounge areas with swinging beds. They also have spa treatments, I got an excellent facial. Breakfast lunch and dinner great. You can pack yourselves lunch during breakfast if you plan to hike all day or if you get back late there is always hot soup waiting for you in the food room until dinner. There is a huge selection of art and design books and magazines to read and look at. The lounge / bar / coffee shop area is super cozy and a wonderful place to sit. The outdoor patio in the sun is worth a million bucks! Absolutely recommend this place! Even just for a drink :)
