"Viennese architect Ike Ikrath (who, together with his wife, also owns the Haus Hirt down the hill), has managed to create a hotel with both the charm of a traditional Alpine chalet and the flair of a high-design hotel. Rooms have a retro feel, with 50’s style chairs and brightly-tiled bathrooms. Panorama rooms have long balconies with sweeping views of the Gastein valley; some also have hammocks, for really soaking up the vista. For literal soaking, the Aveda spa has therapeutic thermal baths fed straight from Bad Gastein’s healing waters, alongside twice-daily yoga classes.
