Exciting Things To Do & Eat In NYC Between April 27th - May 3rd - New York - The Infatuation

"Hungry House wants you to know that, even though they run a ghost kitchen at the (kind-of spooky) Brooklyn Naval Yard, their takeout hub isn’t a haunted house of doomed food operations hiding behind bad puns on Doordash. Instead, they tap chefs with popular online presences and give them a way to distribute their products and prove they deserve IRL hype too. You can choose from menus by new creators every season, as well as house specials that pull some ingredients and inspiration from everyone. Season 2’s lineup just dropped, featuring food from viral salad maker Pierce Abernathy, “super torta” chef Tony Ortiz, and the Instagram-favorite Filipino pop-up Woldy Kusina. Order for pickup or delivery here." - neha talreja

"A Brooklyn-based ghost kitchen whose founder includes a handwritten thank-you note with every delivery and follows up by emailing regulars directly to express gratitude and solicit feedback. I had a great experience ordering from Hungry House at both the Navy Yard in Brooklyn and on Lexington in Manhattan. The employees were kind, asking me if I needed any help with the kiosk and what to choose from the vast array of dishes. I ordered the Salmon Bowl with spicy Fries and a Nguyen Vietnamese coffee beverage. My order came quickly and fresh and I was very pleased with the whole experience. Definitely Recommend to try the Burgers and all the other meals curated by different chefs. I got the Star points by putting my # in so I get discounts every time I order. 👍👍👍

Had a fully stacked burger and it was great. The original burger is pretty plain and there wasn’t any ketchup in the bag. Didn’t realize the lemon broccoli side would be cold. All in all hungry house has the widest selection at The Brooklyn Navy Yard and some of the more healthy options. I’ll be back for sure. Hours can be subject to change, here at 3:10pm on and Monday (1/13/25) and they appear to not be taking orders.

Ordered from seamless / grubhub for pick up for lunch. Seared Alaskan Salmon Bowl (over greens) was delicious and filling. Price is alright but worth it for the quality and freshness. Solid lunch option if you work at WeWork Dock 72!

Review: I recently had the opportunity to try the food at a restaurant called "Soul Bowl," and unfortunately, I must say that my experience was quite disappointing. The food was simply awful. One of the major issues I encountered was the strange combination of ingredients in the salads. It seemed that they had no understanding of flavor pairing or culinary balance. For example, one of the salads I ordered contained a mishmash of apples, pineapple, onion, sour cream, chicken, and tomato. The flavors clashed horribly, and it was an unpleasant experience trying to eat it. It felt like a random assortment of ingredients thrown together without any thought or consideration for taste. Furthermore, the chicken in the "Soul Bowl" was undercooked. It was raw in the center, which was not only unappetizing but also a potential health hazard. This lack of attention to basic cooking standards was highly concerning and unacceptable. Given my experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend "Soul Bowl" to anyone. The poorly combined ingredients and raw chicken are clear indicators of a lack of culinary expertise and attention to detail. It's disappointing when a restaurant fails to deliver on its promise of good food, and unfortunately, this was the case with "Soul Bowl." I would strongly advise looking elsewhere for a satisfying dining experience.

I'm not sure what happened within the last 6 months, new management, a new team, etc. but the quality in the food has gotten so bad that I have no desire to ever purchase food from there again. I used to order from them all of the time because of the convenience in location at the Navy Yard and they used to be tasty. The only reason I ordered from them for lunch yesterday was because I got $10 off via "stars"/points. Figured I'd "play it safe" and get their Backyard BBQ Chicken bowl with greens, broccoli, sweet potatoes, side of aioli. The aioli was rancid (second time this has happened), the broccoli consisted of mostly cuts, and the sweet potatoes were suspect in color/taste. Hungry House used to be such a convenient option at the Navy Yard and now it is so disappointing.

I dropped in this morning for a breakfast burrito that took over 15 minutes to be made. Once I was given the burrito I asked the male staff member that he hadn’t included the sauce. Perilously when I ordered this same item I was given sauce. The man said nothing and just ran to get this Spanish girl who started to scream at me and ask why I was talking to the man. I explain and said I asked for the sauce on the side and she screamed at me some more that he doesn’t speak English and I shouldn’t be speaking to him and just take my order and go. I explain to her that 1. If he doesn’t speak English why is he placed in a position to interact with the public and 2 put a sign up saying he doesn’t speak English and I would have tried to flag someone else down. She screamed and screamed some more saying the sauce was inside (it wasn’t) and threw the sauce and hot sauce at me. At this point I asked for her name and she just walked out of the kitchen and ordered everyone to exit as well. Terrible customer services experience and it’s 9:35am what kind of morning did you have that your already screaming at people?!

Stopped in to check this place out on my way to Dock 72 for lunch. I got a chicken bowl with mushroom, kale, radish, carrots, and rice. Really enjoyed the flavor in the bowl. Didn't enjoy the fact that lunch cost me >$20. Should be noted that Hungry House is one of those aggregate kitchens with several different cuisines. You order from a kiosk and probably take your food elsewhere since there's not much in the way of seating at all. It's always better to give more rice than less and this place just didn't pack enough rice. Maybe I'm just a fan tou, but if you cheap out on me, you don't get that last star.

Yelp
Wow. Came in with high expectations but left extremely disappointed. Besides being in the middle of nowhere, you would have no idea this place was open when walking by. The food court surrounding it is pretty empty & if you come in the afternoon/evening it's kind of depressing. But I've been to very weird locations that had great food before so this didn't effect how I reviewed the food. I picked up a Mushroom Adobo Bowl to have for dinner. What it was supposed to come with: roasted maitake and cremini mushrooms, warm jasmine rice, watermelon radish, roasted wax beans tossed in sesame ginger dressing, pickled daikon and carrot, savory adobo sauce. Everything was completely cold when I got it, including the rice. Mushrooms were neither maitake or cremini, got the tiniest little pit of carrots/daikon & no adobo sauce. It was just a sad plate. I'll add a photo of what it was meant to be & what I actually got. To save the meal I ordered a side of fries. Not cooked enough & totally starchy but the better of the two things.

Yelp
Hungry House offers some options curated by chefs and also offers their own specials. This location is within the Brooklyn Navy Yard. I heard of Woldy Kusina through instagram. He's done a few pop ups throughout the city and has his own catering service which offers some plant based options. The Adobo Mushroom bowl I ordered was good. I thought it was a bit overpriced for what I paid for it. The sorbet from Bad Habit was alright as well. The staff here are nice and attentive. It gets busy since there are not many options in the surrounding neighborhood.

Yelp
A yelp event I didn't make it into put this place on my radar, my friend & I decided to check it out after being in the area. We stopped by after work & seemed like a lot of the options were sold out? This just made it hard to pick since there's a limited menu to Begin with. U have to order on their site, this took some time we were told 5-6 minutes took more like a half hour since they seemed to have forgotten our order. We ended up with the Cacio e Pepe burger which was not bad tasty it was the better item we tried. Also had the Lemon pepper wings not sure how to feel about them? They were ahh better when dipped in the herb ranch. The Veggie lumpia were decent. Over all the meal was not as satisfying as we thought it would be this is a long way to go for ok food. Location is interesting as it is part of the Brooklyn navy yard which seems to house a few different vendors, probably some office spaces & there's a small brewery. I wouldn't come back out here just for this, would have to make sure there's something else to try.

Yelp
Had a great time here! The area is super cool, there is a lot to look at/see in the space and a very nice vibe all around. The food we had was great! I had a chicken cutlet sandwich and it was so crispy and delicious! The service was a bit slow but they were very apologetic and offered a free beverage which wasn't necessary but a very nice gesture. Would definitely come back!
