The Best Tomato Pies In Philly, Ranked - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"The sauce on Iannelli's thin, springy tomato pie drowns the crust. So if you get sloppy with your bites on the way home, your shirt may look like the killer got you in Scream. Here's the catch: the East Passyunk spot is only open 15 days a year, or at least that's what it feels like. Get here at the rare time when they’re open or maybe just pay for expedited shipping on Goldbelly." - candis mclean

The Ultimate Philly Food Glossary | Eater Philly

"I point out that Iannelli’s is a landmark spot for tomato pie, the local party dish featuring a thick, spongy, focaccia-like rectangular slice slathered with tomato sauce and topped with grated pecorino Romano or Parmesan and a sprinkle of oregano, served warm or chilled." - Ernest Owens

Iannelli's Bakery - Review - South Philly - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"You come to this East Passyunk spot for tomato pie. Specifically, thin, springy tomato pie with so much sauce that the crust is drowning. Here's the catch: Iannelli's is only open 15 days a year, or at least that's what it feels like. Get here at the rare time when they’re open or maybe just pay for expedited shipping on Goldbelly." - Candis R. McLean

Since 1910, this Italian Market stalwart has turned out beloved tomato pie—room-temperature, saucy, and satisfying. Featured in The New York Times and spotlighted by local TV; drops can be limited, so watch for announcements.

Ordered cannolis and the tomato pie from Goldbelly for my son’s birthday. Arrived with a lot of instructions and a hand written note “Happy. Birthday”. Very nice touch!! I would buy again but was disappointed about the additional cost of shipping. It is expensive to begin with. If it was free shipping would give 5 stars.

Stepping into this bakery feels like a warm hug—the brick oven tomato pizzas and fresh breads are out of this world. I always leave with a bag full of treats and a smile.

Still searching for the tomato pie to remind me the ones of my youth at the Columbus Market in Monmouth New Jersey. These are the closest I've found that I can mail order to Ohio. Delicious!

The strombolis were the best we ever ate in our life! I wish you were open more as I would never order from anyone else. The Stromboli’s were bursting with meat and cheese, I never had them this full before! Go here!! Jerri Wier

This bakery is truly amazing. They’ve been around 100 years. They make the best Tomato pie in the country. The bread they make is truly amazing. I have traveled all over the United States New York Chicago, San Francisco all the major cities. Iannelli’s Bakery is by far the best.

This place is amazing! Anytime I visit Philly from SoCal I make it a must stop. The owner is amazing and super friendly. The food is delicious and comes from an old family recipe and a 100 year old brick oven. If you are in the area, you must try! Can't wait to be back! See you soon Vincent!

Yelp
Really good, strombolis are a little too big though. All good ingredients though. Pricing isn't posted on Instagram or anything but pretty reasonable compared to other good spots. Pricing for gravy etc is high but what can you do for someone's time and good ingredients. All around good spots

Yelp
Vincent, the owner, is super friendly and welcoming. He shared meatballs and tomato pie for me to try. Meatballs are homemade and fresh. Tomato pie is definitely their specialty. It's not thick and completely covered with fresh tomato sauce. Highly recommended. Pepperoni Stromboli: stuffed with lots of mozzarella cheese. You can feed a lot of people with one Stromboli. Cannolo: the mini one is a nice treat for something sweet. The lady who helped me nicely showed her skill filling the mini shell with the creamy ricotta. The shell is fresh and crunchy. It's defy a nice neighborhood store. You can buy home made gravy and fresh bread. Only opens 15 days a year.

Yelp
ianneli's is the best. i love this spot the old brick oven in the wall the sign the staff Vincent and just the feel of it is an experience that you rarely get anymore anywhere. it's like it all contributes to the end product and that end product is always exceptional. the only problem is it's only open like 15 days a year so u gotta be on your toes and pay attention to those ig posts to make sure you answer the call and get your order in. Whatever is on the menu is always amazing, whether it's a soup, tomato or topped by or an occasional cutlet or something. I have never ever been disappointed. The last couple times I got a tomato pie cause that's really sort of what they are famous for, but they also have gravy, including a crab gravy which sometimes i order to california where i usually live. but they also sometimes have the jumbo lump crab pie and i thought i was dreaming but it was on the menu sunday and i got one and Vincent hooked it up beautifully and really loaded it up for me. I got home and me and my dad went to town on it it was perfection. light bread structure low grease perfectly seasoned and the crab texture was so perfect almost like that of perfectly cooked lobster. I saved a few slices for my friend in Elkins Park and drive it out to them and they can't stop calling to give me praises for lacing them up with some. all i can tell you is this is one of those bucket list spots in philly u have to go before u die if u can make it happen and get there on a day they are open. i never miss one and i will be at the next and the next and the next til it ends and i pray that never happens but just in case i will be there. also the cannolis and zeppelin are some of the best in the city come with cash and don't skimp. it's worth it and this is one of those u gotta pay to play experiences. Thanks again Vincent can't wait til the next one.
