Swanky Tropical Cocktail-Themed Jaguar Room Prowls Into Silver Lake | Eater LA
"Opened on Friday, November 15, this new tropical cocktail bar occupies the shuttered De Buena Planta space as an attached lounge and is operated by Jenny Rush of the Blue Plate Restaurant Group, who came over from the Westside to run both businesses. The lounge received a full makeover with midcentury modern lighting, animal prints, plenty of deep red banquettes, gold accents, and small tables; Rush plans on bringing a piano to the corner for live performances. The cocktail program, created by former Otium bar manager Sam Eppel, focuses on Mexican-produced spirits and is decidedly spirit-forward: drinks include a guava Daiquiri; a Hibiscus Breeze with mezcal, rhum agricole, hibiscus, watermelon, lime, and sea salt; and a Jaguar Paw with Condesa Gin, celery, fragrant pandan, and lime. For the tobacco Old Fashioned, Eppel uses Abasolo whiskey plus elote and Turkish tobacco bitters for a smoky, earthy finish. Because the neighboring restaurant is still working with health department inspectors to approve full cocktail service at its expansive outdoor bar, this attached cocktail bar will handle much of the current cocktail demand. Food offerings here are limited to smaller snacks such as chips and guacamole, yucca fries, and taco duos. The bar is open daily from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m." - Mona Holmes
