Jahn's

A place where you can feel the traditional New York flavor. Started in 1897 as an ice cream chain, the lampshade with a stainless steel glass feel is unique. Went for a simple lunch for a friend's birthday, and this is actually my third visit. I can't say that the food is the best, but the kindness of the staff and the unique atmosphere of this restaurant are something that anyone visiting New York should experience at least once. Grilled American Cheese Toast was topped with tomatoes, crispy bread and rusty cheese. The neat tomatoes piqued my appetite. My friend ate an omelette and said it didn't taste bad. We had a great time here, and refilled coffee is above average.

What a great experience. Wonderful classic food that tasted great and interesting, classic ice cream selections as well. A blast from the past but remains relevant and worth visiting.

This is as old school as it gets here in NYC. Since the late 1800's, Jahns has been serving the community and stepping in here, its amazing to be apart of that history. I sat down imagining the many people from the past decades and century who have come through this establishment. And the ambiance just brings you back in time. The service here is amazing. The waiters are on their A-Game, tentative, thoughtful, always making sure you're accommodated. I had the breakfast here and haven't had a chance to try out the ice cream so I'll comment on the breakfast. The breakfast is your standard, basic diner fare done very well. No complaints from me. Bacon, eggs, pancakes, home fries, omelette, sausage. Stuff you can't go wrong with and they don't get it wrong here. It's basic and I mean that in a very good way. It's exactly what I was seeking and exactly what I got. The manager was super friendly, filled my cup up with extra coffee and went around making sure everything was okay. I wish I got his name. Verdict: If you're in Queens, looking for some old school classic dining experience, with the ambiance and history of that to boot, look no further. Jahns is certainly worth your visit! Pros: -Great ambiance -Great Service -Good pricing -Great history and classic diner ambiance -Basic diner food done very well Cons: -Not really a con but if you're looking for something more out-the-box or extraordinary this won't be the place.

Hear business since 1897 , ice cream is very good not that sweet that what I want . Staffs are very friendly, even not morden layout but still clean neat and comfortable to hang out.

Yesterday I visited, I sat at the bar and the waitress with a rude attitude asked me if I needed a menu and I answered that they were there but I hadn't realized they were in that place, I ordered an omelet with cheese, When I was eating it, it didn't have cheese, I asked them to change it and the second one did have cheese but it had pieces of egg shell and I also ordered pancakes and in the same way it had pieces of egg shell. When I wanted to ask for the bill, no one turned around, and when I paid the girl who is in the area to collect, she only asked if she should leave a tip and in the end she didn't even say thank you.

You can’t beat a classic. This place has charm and really good diner food. The shake and ice cream selection are of course the standouts. My boy gave this a high burger rating of 5/5. It’s a small space with no parking, so don’t be surprised if there is a wait. Kids menu is diverse.

I loved the atmosphere of this diner, really gives you nostalgic vibes. I came for brunch over the weekend and was seated quickly. Booth was spacious and comfortable, menu was huge (and quirky) We got the Mexican omelette with pancakes, topped with strawberries and bananas. Omelette was delicious, and they were generous with the amount of fruit for the pancakes. We also ordered the Cheeseburger Deluxe, asked for medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly. If you order coffee, you get unlimited refills, which they're quite adamant about offering to do. In my opinion the coffee was a bit weak and watered down, but for the price and the quantity it was expected. Overall, great value and experience. I definitely will be back with some friends, maybe to tackle the Kitchen Sink. I'd also try the waffles next time, they smelled delicious when they were making them.

Nostalgic ambiance local eatery with great breakfast, kind service, and pocket friendly prices

3.5 Old fashioned diner and ice cream palor that has been around for over a century. Service was good but could be better. They have an extensive food and ice cream menu! We had a cheeseburger and pancakes with fresh fruit. While the pancakes looked delicious, it was served lukewarm. The butter would not melt. I wasn't fond of the batter's taste. Had much better. Tasted too floury. The burger was pretty good though. I ordered a burger that was way too big. Stick to the 6 oz. Buffalo wings and milkshake were also good.

I was in the area passing by searching for some brunch, the signage since 1897's caught my eye, of course it's no where near my time. I decided to go in, it was interesting looking, inside looked like a 70's movie diner. I was seated with a menu real quick by the hostess, the people where very friendly. The waiter took my order right away, I ordered the Romanian steak and eggs, since I was in the mood for brunch. Steak was done perfectly as I like it medium, and the waiter was also very attentive. The place made me feel very relaxed, food was great. I do highly recommend this spot, as I will definitely be coming back.

As a kid, would walk past this place but would not go in. The only eatery for me was White Castle. Now I can get a big boy meal. Meatloaf and mashed potatoes with gravy. Now that's the ticket. The portions, as with any diner, are massive. I had a cup of New England Clam Chowder too. Unlike others I have had before, this version had less heavy cream, and I liked it that way. My only regret is no room for dessert.

Best diner in Queens! Great service and friendly staff, variety of food from American to Greek and Latin flavors! Vibrant ambience. Got to love this place.

Old fashioned diner/ice cream parlor just like I remembered. Went to a Jahns over 60 years ago. Brought back memories. The service was excellent, the food very tasty, reasonably priced. I'd definitely go back.

We've been on the hunt for a good diner since we moved and finally found our spot. Food is what you'd expect, they nail the classics, and the prices are very reasonable. Our servers were great as well and we really look forward to coming back soon for the huge ice cream selection with our son!

This place is not as good as we remembered. Back in the day, we would go to Jahn's ice cream sundaes. Today, it seems tired. We had: - Marshmallow Sundae with Pistachio - Ice cream was good but there was no marshmallow or the whipped cream overpowered the flavor. Hard to tell. - Chocolate Egg Cream - tasted like milk with club soda. - Banana Split - Tasty, cookies and cream ice cream tasted good. - Root Beer Float with Vanilla - tasty Don't know if we would come back again.

This spot is right across my job so it is super convenient to order from here. The only downfall is that their prices are a bit elevated, like it is everywhere. I have tried their tuna melts, pancakes, and yesterday I tried their chicken souvlaki platter and I absolutely loved it. It comes with grilled chicken, Greek salad, pita bread and French fries. The chicken was cooked perfectly, although they do not add too much pieces of chicken, the salad was fresh and the fries were crispy. Very good diner !

The best grilled cheese S'wich‼ The crispness of the toast, the crunch of sautéed onions...a bit charred, tomatoes done well, not soggy, not mushy, perfect balance...day off best bite‼‼ Cruz's friendly service ‼ Ty.

Came here again with some of our family members ( kids included ) . As usual, we had a wonderful time here. Had enough comfortables space for the six of us. Enjoyed our brunch and did not feel rushed. Compliments this time for Joaquin, the server. He was very efficient and helpful ! As soon as we entered this restaurant , we experienced a lovely smile from Leslie. They are both keepers !

What an absolute gem of a diner. Incredible atmosphere, wonderful waitstaff, and the absolute BEST Belgian waffle I've ever had. Everything I've eaten so far (working my way through the EXTENSIVE menu) is simple and delicious. Jahn's has become a staple in my life. Love this place!

I went to John's in the fifties after school in flushing. S great gathering place for friends . I also remember all the slot machines that played music and other amusements. There was a nickelodeon and old soda fountain items . Bring back memories.

Jahn's is a dying breed for sure! An "old school" soda/ice cream shop with the long counter seating with it's red leather swivel stools! This brings back memories for anyone that isn't.....25!! Jahn's has been around a long time, and I must say, this particular spot in Jackson Heights is quite the cool neighborhood! A lot of activity outside with the street vendors and quaint shops, but step inside to a time gone by for sure! Ice cream done well is their claim to fame and they didn't disappoint! The banana split was delicious with it's three large scoops, the bananas were fresh, but not so much that it had that "green" taste to them. The toppings were enough without having the ice cream swimming in the sauces. It reminds me of going into places like this as a kid and ordering a hot dog and fries, and of course, followed by some delicious ice cream creation!

Wonderful spot to visit no matter the day or time. Great hospitality with comfort food done right. Little gem worth visiting if you are in the area.

Everyone should come for brunch, but more importantly, for the sundaes and the milkshakes and the ice creams! They've got an entire separate menu dedicated to just the desserts! I've been coming here with my family ever since I was a little girl, then on dates as a teenager, then to treat my parents to brunch - and thru it, all of Jahn's charm and hospitality thankfully remains now that I take my son over for a meal or a sundae ever so often. I especially love how nostalgic and quaint the diner still feels. Never change Jahn's!

Old school look it's all so preserved well I love it and the people who own the business are the sweetest so kind I swear !!!! The milkshakes yum!!! Burgers are great ! Love their steak fries and corn beef hash !!!! Clam chowder soup !!!! Love it all so family driven must go to this diner

If I can see the cockroach on the floor by the bathroom without my glasses, the staff should be able to see it.

Love this place! Been around forever was originally a ice cream parlor but later became a Diner but they still have the ice cream which they make themselves and the place still has that old school turn of the century look.

The food is great if you dine in. Otherwise, you risk missing items when ordering through a delivery app. I've ordered a cheeseburger twice, and both times I was missing fries, lettuce and tomatoes. If you're not going to include the items, don't claim that the order comes with it. So stupid I have to contact support and possibly risk my reputation on the app due to the restaurant's incompetence.

Saturday morning, one of the few places in the area that could accommodate a table of four last minute. Comfortably decorated interior that's reminiscent of an old-school diner. Got seated in the back and was eventually greeted by a waitress. Fairly typical menu filled with everything you'd expect from a diner, as well as an eclectic dessert section. Settled on the German Omelette w/ Pancakes ($11.25) and a regular drip coffee ($1). Omelette is stuffed with a large helping of peppers, onions, bacon pieces, and potatoes - very filling and a good blend of ingredients. The short stack of three pancakes tasted fresh as they are super fluffy and served with some butter. Simple meal that was the perfect amount of food for breakfast. While our waitress was certainly friendly, it took a while for her to come around (busy day) and forgot one of the drink orders (not on the bill thankfully). Good place for the first meal of the day if they're not too slammed.

Basic diner food but old school classic decor. I ordered the French toast with a side of turkey sausage. The French toast was pretty good but the turkey sausage was salty. The coffee was decent. Everything just tasted very okay but nothing wowed me.

Jahn's has always been a favorite for years. The order was followed to the letter and arrived in minutes. Great omelet and fries, warm and fresh. Jahn's still has the best ice cream in NYC. Love their hot fudge sundaes and sodas.

Jahn's is that one old school place that most people have in their hometowns or neighborhoods. It's alright, there's really nothing special about it to me other than maybe some of the ice cream. I would never talk about Jahn's poorly though because it's a Jackson Heights staple and the people there are always nice. It's retro and a nice spot for the kids. Food is a little pricey for mediocre food but it is expensive rent in the area. I remember the food definitely being better a long time ago, and the ice cream isn't bad. Nothing special though, yummy banana splits however are yum. And DEFINITELY waffles with ice cream. Sometimes my friends or family go late just for a waffle with ice cream My favorite thing about Jahn's is on your birthday you get a free Birthday sundae.

Great place if you're into old school diner food. Usually my weekend spot where I bring my family in the mornings. Staff if nice and food is always great.

Basic diner food. Both me and my bf ended up with diarrhea. All we had was pancakes bacon and eggs. Maybe someone didn't cook something right or food was old but that's never happened before where we both got diarrhea instantly from having simple breakfast . So definitely not coming back here. So sad because location is so close to my home I can walk here.

I am 9 months pregnant and really wanted chocolate chip pancakes. They provided butter, enough syrup, a fork and knife. I didn't have to waddle to the kitchen for a thing. This delivery was the highlight of my day.

A 3.5 star review. Its basic diner food but it is a throw back to the old days of Jahn's when there was a chain of them around the city and you came for the ice cream. The breakfast are good but definitely have some ice cream if you want to feel the nostalgic.

Jahn's takes you back. Waaaaaay back. You get nostalgia, deliciousness, excellent service and comfort all rolled into one. And I am so happy that I live just two blocks away. I would come here every day if my stomach allowed it. Weekend mornings will be busy. You'll wait in line for a bit and then be directed to your booth. While walking past the counter and front dining areas, you'll ask yourself "Has Martin Scorcese filmed here?" And "what kind of deals went down in the back booths?" In the 70s. My staple meal is the Big Breakfast - pancakes, eggs, hash browns, bacon and sausage. The menu photo shows Tomatoes and Mushrooms however, don't be fooled - those are just stock photos. Omelettes are well done too. What can I say? It's a diner. And it has an unmatched style.

I come here all the time with my family, their turkey bacon is so crispy and delicious! The shakes are so good too, reminds me of Johnny rockets shakes. Overall If you're looking for a breakfast that will fill you up then come here. The only reason I gave this place four stars instead of five is because of the waiters getting your orders wrong plenty of times and occasionally being rude. Other than that the man who gives out the water is the sweetest man ever. You should try it !

This is an add on review. This occurred in the summer of 2019. I came in with a friend and ordered the sausage Parmesan sandwich with french fries. When the food came out, I noticed something immediately. The sausages didn't look like Italian sausages at all. Hesitantly, I took a bite and knew that the taste was off. It was a familiar taste but wasn't an Italian Sausage taste. I took another bite and it hit me, this was breakfast sausage and not Italian Sausage as the menu claims. And you know, when you expect something and you order it and you crave it, it can go downhill fast when you dont get it or it tastes off. And with that said, I didnt take anymore bites. Was super disappointed that they tried to pass off a breakfast sausage for an Italian sausage. I have come here many other times after and have ordered the breakfast platters usually which are good. But I have never ever again ordered the sausage parmesan sandwhich.

One of Jackson Heights treasures! Right off the 7 train, it has an old school ice cream parlor vibe. Everything from the booths, fixtures, stained glass lamps and counter tops transports you back to the 1800. I've been coming here since I was little and it hasn't lost its touch. They're always playing Musak tunes in the background and everyone greats you with a smile. In my opinion it's the best diner in our neighborhood. Everything is great but I do come often to get my milkshake & sundae fix, which they are famous for. The most famous one is their huge Kitchen Sink Sundae!

Really good place to eat, it's a place to eat in the morning to have a cup of coffee. The employees were really cool and chill. Over all a nice place!

I travel all the way from Coney Island for this place. The food is great, the ice cream brings me back to the 1960s. Please never close Jahns! Was back there last night (10/27/17) for just ice cream. The place is doing very well, pretty full. Ice cream was fantastic as usual. had the marshmallow sundae. Friend had the rainbow something-or-other, it had pistachio, vanilla, and pineapple ice cream in it.

They only serves packaged creamer and milk. Freaking diner serving ONLY packaged milk. When we ask for regular milk, the server just throws a bunch of more packaged milk on our table and is extremely rude. How do you not serve regular milk at a diner? Talk about cutting corners.

Had a well prepared special. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. Excellent and attentive service in an old world atmosphere. Looking forward to my next visit.

Right in the Heart of Jackson,Hiegths Queens near the corner of 37 Ave and 81St one block from the 82nd St 7 Subway station. I order a Breakfast Western Omelette with American cheese and white bread it's was very good and satisfying, to top it off with coffee really made my breakfast and Lunch, they do have specials that Finnish at 11:00AM, there's plenty of seating but depending of the day of the week it gets pack. I been coming here for years and this place has survived many changes in the neighbor, there are many restaurants in the area,the staff are friendly and helpful, nothing beats JAHNS diner.

Just happened to pass by Jahn's and it brought back so many good memories. But don't kid yourself, this is not the Jahn's of yesteryear. Food is over priced and just average diner fare at best. Stick to breakfast and you'll be ok. Ice cream is definitely not Jahn's ice cream as I remember though they still have the Kitchen Sink, etc. Much better diners in the area. Will not be back

My friend and I always love to stop by Jahns and the waiters/waitresses are the sweetest people who know our go-to order by heart. The food is typical diner food, but still is good. We will continue to come here for years!!

I dont know how this place is still around. They claim to make their ice cream on the premises but it doesn't taste like anything special. It tastes really bland and not sweet...I wouldn't waste my calories on it again. I ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich too and the chicken was a really pure piece of meat, and was seasoned well. The BBQ sauce was different than most places, it had a weird, strong, sweet taste that I liked. The fries were dry and probably overcooked. The waiter messed up our order 3 times...my mom asked for new england clam chowder and they brought vegetable soup, I asked for a scoop of cookies n cream ice cream and they brought vanilla (and the waiter INSISTED that that's what I had order...like no, you just weren't paying attention; dont blame the customer) and then on my milkshake I asked for it without whipped cream and they put it on anyway. And when we went, there were only like 5 people in the restaurant and the service was still slow...it shouldn't be that difficult.

After 30 minutes of debating what to eat on a Friday night the mr and i finally decided to give Jahn's a try. When we walked in we were immediately greeted and sat. From my experience most diners have tables and booths that are sticky and was was pleasantly surprised that Jahn's was immaculate. I ordered the chicken cordon bleu and the mr ordered the lemon herb chicken (photos attached).... wow! The lemon herb chicken was so so so good! The cordon bleu was very tasty not at all salty like most places. The wait staff were friendly and helpful. What was interesting was the dessert section of the menu, the desserts were explained with cute descriptions which makes be customer wonder what it is... I'll be coming back for more delicious food and try out their dessert next time.... can't wait!

We enjoyed coming here. I had the chicken souflaki which was good. My daughters had the Italian omelet and the other one had a spinach n feta omelet. Everyone seemed to be there for breakfast. The ice cream was definitely homemade. The mint chocolate chip was great with big chocolate chips in it. The only thing that disappointed me was I thought the renovations would more. The panel walls were there and seemed they just change the fixtures of the lights. I thought it would be more 50s looking and brighter.

As good as it's always been- kitchen sink & all. The sandwiches are yummy, everything is yummy! It takes me back to the 60's when I would go with a large group of friends & always thoroughly enjoyed!!!

This old school dinner seems also a family business. The décor is amazing and seems to be the same for the last 40 years. I would love to shoot a video piece or something in here. I got an apple pie à la mode and it was very good. Moderate prices and good service.

Is a neighborhood dinner that everyone love , I'm so glad I found this place. I love the vide of family and that you could always get your Sunday's like back on the days true I have taken a lot of family members and friends to eat here and they love it some of them have come back on there on to try another breakfast plate I will always love this place I strongly recommend it. Be patient on the weekend ya it get crown it but is worth the wait

My daughter and I went for a late breakfast. The service was attentive and fast . My daughter order the chocolate chip pancakes it's a big portion and the size of the pancakes are huge! She enjoyed it. But couldn't finish it. I order the French toast it was prepare correctly with the halal bread. The bacon was very crispy. We will go back again..

Don't waste your time. The only thing this place has going for it is it's name to trap those who feel nostalgic for it. The food is mediocre at best, and good luck making even a minor substitution - apparently veggies instead of potatoes is too much of an ask. The place is known for its ice cream, but even that is a chore to order. The wait staff has no idea what any menu item is, and we were told that we couldn't order a two scoop sundae because "we don't have cups that fit". The decor is dingy, the staff is apathetic and the experience isn't worth it. Save your nostalgia for your memories, because sometimes you can't go home again.

I love Jahn's for its down-to-earth atmosphere and food. It's the perfect place for a diner breakfast and old NYC charm. I am very glad that it has survived the pandemic!

Goodfood is convenient and very tasty. The food was fresh, properly prepared and a great value for the price. We highly recommend it. The breakfast on Sunday was equally as good. All the good reviews that I have read about this property are true. The friendliness of the staff seems genuine. I have never seen such good customer service as I experienced .

If you want a Family establishment and cheap food you have reached Jahn's. If you are looking for some good quality ice cream or other delicious desserts then wow have you come to the right place. Normally when you go to a diner you get your basic flavors strawberry, vanilla and chocolate. Not here!!! Here you have a choice of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, coffee, butter pecan, cherry vanilla, pistachio, vanilla fudge, chocolate chip, mint chip, sherbet. I recommend the Pistachio or Strawberry simply because they both have their respected pistachio nuts in them and real strawberries. I can even explain how delighted I feel when I taste this ice cream. But enough about the ice cream lets move on to the food. THE FISH IS TO DIE FOR Especially the BLUEFISH. They have a special where you get the blue fish with soup to start, the main meal, then coffee and ice cream. Lets just say for a group of 5 of us the meal came out to $70. Considering almost all of us got seafood that is a fantastic price. They make their broccoli crispy and it isn't mushy like most diners have it. The carrots are made well as well as their mashed potatoes. I didn't have any french fries but from what I can tell everyone seemed to enjoy them. They made their penne pasta al dente with grilled chicken and broccoli very well. Their prices are so reasonable and you would never think that they are considering how much other places charge. You have to make sure you order off the SPECIALS BOARD IN THE FRONT because that deal is not on the menu itself. ::::::BATHROOM ALERT::::::: No complaints here. I was really happy to see they take care of the bathroom considering this have been around for awhile. Now on to the workers. They are very friendly and help you out. It seems like everyone who works there is bilingual spanish. I like that after we ate the main meal we were asked how the food was. Don't you just hate it when your server asks you while you take a huge bite out of something and your mouth is full? Well thankfully our waitress didn't do that. Lastly, when we received our coffee I was extremely happy because it really is good. I like that they have a choice of 4 different types of sugar on the tables. Splenda, Equal, Sweet & Low and Regular Sugar. I choose regular sugar but the people in our party were pleased there was splenda. TIP:::::::: IT IS VERY HARD TO FIND PARKING SOMETIMES IF YOU WANT TO COME HERE BY CAR.
