January

January is a great restaurant, obviously very expensive, but definitely worth checking out. My family and I made a reservation here to celebrate my recent promotion. The GPS took us to the employee parking lot...definitely dont follow the GPS, once you see the Southall sign, definitely turn there (I dont drive well in the dark, so I was doomed from the start). Staff is helpful and courteous, they will ask for your reservation name and which restaurant. When you drive up to the Inn, there is valet. They hand you a ticket with a number you can text. Staff is very welcoming, they will guide you to the restaurant. Now, you can pay for bottled water or have free tap water. Or sparkling. Whatever your preference. My parents loved the drinks, my mother really enjoyed the pinot noir. For appetizers, we got the Southall bread, lamb belly lettuce rolls, and scallops. All were exceptional, my personal favorite being the Southall Rolls with honey butter. Staff will give you options in order to make sure all parties have enough, which I thought to be very considerate! For the entrees, we got the duck, artic char, and New York strip steak. They charge $8 an ounce. They are very transparent about pricing, feel comfortable asking the staff, they do not mind answering all questions. They also give you the option to share entrees. My dad thought the duck was sublime, soft and not dry at all. The artic char with squash was INCREDIBLE. I personally liked it way more than the steak. My husband and I split the steak, but we thought it was too fatty, especially for how much it was. For dessert, we got the pomegranate and cardamom cake and honey and coffee dessert. It was all delicious. Since we were celebrating, they congratulated me and put a cute congratulations chocolate on it! So cute! I would like to note, it took an hour for dessert to arrive and then we had to wait quite a while for our check. Overall, a really exquisite experience! Staff was exceptionally courteous. Also bathrooms were well kept and clean. Food was mostly delicious. I especially love their sustainability, and seed to fork philosophy. Definitely one of the most expensive meals I've ever had, but thankful I could share this with my family. Thank you staff for a great meal and experience!

First off, this place is very fancy. Our group of 4 went for dinner. The service is excellent and so is the food. So if you are looking for an exceptional and bougie dining experience, this is the place to go. Their menu seems to rotate based off the local season so the menu online might be a little off. The food is amazing and is full of passion and creativity. I got the scallops, but we also had shrimp, duck, and short ribs on the table. It was all fantastic, and well worth the price tag. If you are into wine, they have a huge selection. And if you like cocktails they have some very creative ones. The service though, might have been the best I’ve ever had. Everyone was so attentive. Overall great experience and great food that made me feel very fancy.

WOW! This was one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. From start to finish, everything was amazing. Our waiter, William, was so friendly and informative. Our water glasses were never empty, each course was paced perfectly, and the ambience was perfect. Not to mention, everything we ordered was incredible. I can’t recommend January enough if you are staying at Southall or are within driving distance. We will be back! Thank you the best anniversary dinner.

Incredible, stupendous, and fantastic aren’t words that fully encapsulate the January dining experience—they simply aren’t good enough. From the food, crafted by genius chefs who clearly pour their hearts into every dish, to the wonderful and hardworking staff, this was one of the best dinners I’ve ever had. A special shoutout to William, our waiter, for his keen knowledge of the menu and sweet demeanor; Will and Vincent for thoughtfully describing each of our dishes; Emme for perfectly resetting our silverware after every course; Isabella, our hostess, for warmly welcoming us to our table; and Yari, the manager, who went above and beyond to ensure our complete satisfaction. An additional shoutout to chefs—Mike, Dylan, and Matthew—for their incredible work in the kitchen, attention to detail, and impressive creativity behind each dish. My dad and I left with full stomachs and full hearts, deeply grateful for the authentic, genuine care shown by every person who went beyond the call of duty to curate an exceptional experience.

Countryside brunch is epic! Arguably the best food in and around Nashville. Beautiful, fresh, nutritious ingredients, exceptional cooked, brilliantly served. They were also so accommodating to our food allergies and preferences. It is a little expensive but well worth it. So much delicious food! They say pace yourself, you really should. I’m a fairly big guy with a big appetite, worked out and skipped breakfast and was still full! And grateful to be so. Thank you Southall team for another wonderful experience. We’ll be back.

Came for dinner. Was one of the best dinners I have had. Every dish far exceeded our expectations. The Hamachi in yuzu was out of this world. Justin was our server, he had us laughing and felt like a friend we had known for ages by the end of the meal. The whole staff in general were welcoming and made the experience perfect. Learned about new ingredients that further built on the experience.

We recently had a much anticipated dinner at Southall’s January restaurant and later a drink at its Speakeasy. The food was served to us in generous proportions….every dish was enough for 2-3 people to share. The quality of the food was good, although my preference is for more “simple” preparation (less “fancy” sauces, rubs, spices). Service was very good at the start of the meal, with drink and appetizer orders taken and served promptly. It was, however, a full hour between service of the last appetizer and the entrees. We were checked with frequently to see if we wanted more drinks, water, etc., and to be assured that our food would be coming “soon!” We knew it was going to be expensive, but it surpassed our expectations. We had several appetizers, one drink each, no wine and two entrees….the bill was over $300. Note that bread is considered an “appetizer” and is $10. At the Speakeasy, we were charged $29.55 for a shot of non-premium whiskey (given the additional charges added to the $20. noted for that drink on the menu). A 23% “Auto Service Charge” is added to all orders. The biggest problem was we were overcharged…..both at January (for the meal) and later at the Speakeasy (for a drink we didn’t have). It took 3 days and 4 phone calls to get a call back to report the overcharges. The overcharge at January was removed while still pending, but the overcharge at the Speakeasy has yet to be credited (11 days later), despite that the person we have spoken to at Southall agrees that it is not our charge. We were last told (5 days ago) that it is now necessary for her to go further up the management chain to get approval to remove the erroneous charge. So disappointing that what appears to be….and could be….a first-rate dining experience in our community is so slip-shod. We are not recommending that you not go there….just, if you do, be sure and check your tickets and receipts before you leave!!! We won’t be going back!

Farm to table restaurant or as they say "seed to fork". While fresh, I thought it was just ok. It was also super expensive. They do offer free smores out on the patio. It's located in the South Hall Resort in Franklin Tennessee. A very warm, relaxing and very clean resort.

Started dinner at the bar, which is sort of shared space between Sojourner, the casual dining space, and January. The specialty cocktail menu is not long, but it is particularly well thought out. The wife absolutely loved the Apiary, and though I didn't taste it myself, it is a very beautiful looking drink. I had the spiced old fashioned, and it was a pleasant variation on the usual old fashioned. Like everything throughout Southall, the restaurant space is gorgeous. A beautiful soaring ceiling, all windows on the outside overlooking the peaceful central Tennessee hills and a very open bustling kitchen on the inside of the space. We started with the parker house rolls with honey butter and the oysters chowder style. The rolls were warm just out of the oven, huge and fluffy and addictive. The oysters were bursting with flavor, perfectly cleaned and shucked half shell, in a little pool of chowder, with a lone oyster cracker on each. Highly recommend you start with this combo, we certainly will be on every visit. Though the menu will change with the seasons, I do hope they keep these two as flagship standards. Next the beet escabeche. I'm not a huge beet fan, though the wife is, but the texture and flavor of the dish was quite pleasant, and it made a good side for our shared large plate, a dry aged porterhouse. The menu simply states "dry aged steak" and they actually had a varied selection of cuts. We chose a smaller porterhouse so the wife could enjoy the filet side, while I dove into the strip side. The three smaller and one large plate, all shared, was a filling happy dinner for us. Service was consistently friendly, helpful, and efficient throughout. It's silly expensive, like everything at Southall, and they automatically add a 20% tip to the check. Just be aware you're going to be warming up your credit card there. As locals, we won't usually be staying the night at Southall, though it was a perfect end to dinner that we could just wander down the hall to our room. But we will be back regularly to enjoy dinner at January.

We came for dinner. Absolutely everything was wonderful from beginning to end. Staff were super friendly and professional. The food was amazing - so delicious. They recommend ordering to share. There are three (maybe four, if you want dessert) courses. They offer an extensive wine/drink list. Our server, Shaydia, was simply the best. Each of her recommendations were spot on. We will definitely be back next time we're in town.

PHENOMENAL. Truly. First and foremost, the drive up to the inn is beautiful, and the service all the way from valet, the front desk, to the restaurant staff in its entirety was top tier. We sat down and were blown away with the ambiance, and loved the open layout of the kitchen. You're able to see everyone working diligently to prepare your food, and the main chef looks over every dish and gives the okay before allowing it to leave the kitchen. Our server, Barrett was great. Seeing how it was our first time dining here, he went in depth and in great detail about the menu, answered our questions with ease and gave fantastic recommendations. We ordered the bread, and we were told we were going to get the last 2 rolls (which is half of the normal amount), but they wanted us to be able to try it, so they said it's on them! Their butter has honey in it, specifically from the bees on their farm. From there, we had the lobster. I was a little nervous initially because I'm not a lobster fan, but I was blown away by the presentation & overall flavor. Finally, we had shared the dry aged ribeye, which came in different sizes, but we opted for the 22oz. I will say, it's $8/oz, so the price definitely is expensive but the quality is unmatched. You're going to spend some money here, but the service all around is well worth it. Such a great first time farm to table experience. We'll be back.

We were super excited to try January at Southall because everyone had raved about it, but we had a horrible experience! We spent almost 3 hours at dinner and ended up asking for our entrees to go. We saw our waitress maybe 4 times during those 3 hours and waited about 30 minutes every time we ordered a drink. The party next to us who started their dinner well after us finished before us. We spoke with the manger, but we were very disappointed with her lack of remorse for our service. We will not dine here again.

This was our first visit to Southall and January. We are from Nashville, so familiar with the dining scene in town. Overall, January offers an elevated experience with beautifully prepared and presented food and drink, with a little room for improvement as they grow. We enjoyed two cocktails, the apiary and another rum based drink with mezcal - both cocktails were visually stunning but my wife and I both agreed they were far too sweet/syrupy. The mezcal in the second was completely undetectable. Not amazing for $20 each. The food was very good. They were out of the rolls everyone seems to order ($14!) so we started with chowder style oysters and lamb ribs. I personally liked the lamb rib with its tangy almost sour glaze. The char was awesome and they were cooked to perfection. We also had the lobster small plate which was nice - a half lobster in chunks in a sweet buttery sauce. For mains we had the arctic char and short rib. The skin on the fish was perfectly crisped, and the meat was light, texturally spot on. The green goddess sauce was a nice complement to the fish. The short rib was visually beautiful, covered in a fragrant green curry and accompanied by leaves, basmati and kimchi. Like the lamb ribs, the char on the short rib was to perfection. I only wished the meat was a little more tender. It was borderline fork tender - still very good but a little short of 10/10. The sommelier was very friendly and helpful pairing wines with our mains, and even let us try a few samples of a few of his more unusual picks for fun. If you're looking for a sophisticated place with impressive ambiance and artfully prepared plates, this is the place. The price definitely reflects it however and considering many of the other top notch restaurants we have been to in Nashville, this was among the most expensive meals we have had. I think this meal was as much or even more than Audrey and June. Just a fair warning.

The food was fine, but not worth the insane waits they put us through for each course. It took over an hour to get two appetizers (dinner rolls and a simple salad). We were so frustrated and tired we just had them pack the entree to go and couldn't even consider dessert. The ambiance is nice and the server was lovely, but the timing was a major issue and the food wasn't good enough to make up for it.

We had a wonderful dinner this past Sunday evening, at January, at SouthHall. The Parker House Rolls were truly Ahmazing, and we also had the delicious oysters for our appetizers. We chose the zucchini and the trio of beets for our second course, and they were both extremely delicious! For our main courses, we had the pork chop and the short ribs. Again, both were prepared to perfection!! Our dessert was a delicious peach tart, which we decided to share! I had the signature Apiary and my husband had a glass of red wine, with our dinner. Overall, it was an exceptional dining experience. From the moment we entered, we were able to enjoy the beautiful view over the property as we were seated by the window. The space is beautiful and a special shoutout to our waiter, Barrett, and his co-worker, John, who were both so friendly, kind, attentive and exceptionally knowledgeable about how the food was prepared. They took such good care of us and we will definitely return for another fantastic dining experience!
