The Best Restaurants in Sacramento, Roseville, and Elk Grove | Eater SF

"With two locations, one in Midtown Sacramento and the other in Elk Grove, there are now multiple ways to begin your journey toward this award-winning restaurant. Naturally, dumplings are the crown jewel of the menu. Guests are encouraged to sneak a slice of ginger inside punctured soup dumplings, allowing the heat from the steamy broth inside to enhance the ginger’s aroma. Plant-based options include Impossible dumplings and a vegetable-filled number folded in a bright green wrapper made with spinach. Porridge, rice, and a tangle of noodle dishes accompany the dumplings, begging for Journey to the Dumpling to be enjoyed in a group so everyone can get a little bit of everything." - Tamerra Griffin

Elk Grove’s beloved dumpling house still hand‑pleats xiaolongbao daily. Sacramento Bee coverage tracks the brand’s growth, but the original shop remains the go‑to for soup dumplings, noodles, and family‑run warmth.

What a gem! restaurant was busy, but we were quickly seated. I ordered a order of the soup dumplings Ingredients were very fresh, dumplings and broth full of favor so amazing! It really reminded me of back home of a place l used go to in flushing queens when I was living there. 100% recommend!

Google
Vibe of restaurant during an evening dinner rush was very overwhelming. This was my least favorite part of the experience. The tables are arranged very closely to another and it felt chaotic. Servers and staff were all very friendly. Nothing felt overly spicy so easy to add sauces for a custom spice level. *Food Reviews* Garlic noodles: 5/5 Strong garlic taste Peking Spare Ribs: 3/5 HAS BONES!! Sweet sauce is tasty. Menu doesn’t say there are bones so definitely a hazard! Chow Mein: 4/5 tasty and not oily. Thinner noodles Vegetarian Salt & Pepper Tofu: 5/5 STAR OF THE NIGHT! So tasty but super hot when it comes out give it a few mins so it firms up lol Pork Soup Dumplings: 2/5 Unfortunately they came undone super easy and leaked a pink semi solid goop (pork) which was not appetizing to look at so we ended up not eating them. They looked better the following day as leftovers Cucumber Salad: 4/5 tasty and simple Wonton in Chili Oil: 5/5 Perfect bite sized wontons with a flavorful sauce BBQ pork: 3/5 We weren’t really fans of this the bbq flavor is very subtle and the meat was a little tougher than we would have liked

Soooo delicious 😋 we left early as it takes about 1hr. Drive time and made it there just b4 Lunch. 1st time, we ordered the crunchy Bao buns, followed by Korean Style noodles. They have great Thai tea as well... Great service as it got bust. They were very polite, friendly and most of all Attentive.

** Wait: Too long - even after you are on the waitlist and check in, the wait was 45-55 mins on a Sunday evening at 7:30p. **** Service: the wait staff were all very nice *** Quite loud inside although you do have TVs with no sound showing the local sports games like the Kings if it’s a game night. *** Food: underwhelming and quite overrated — but lots of pictures of all the menu items + lots of vegetarian options — they plaster the NO MSG sign on the menus. - Mushroom Bao: bland flavors, and they don’t have the black mushrooms inside. It’s just plain not so tasty mushroom inside, but presentation is CUTE!!! - Tan Tan Mian - noodles were good amount of chewy but minced flavors of the pork were just OK and this is served as a SOUP fyi. - Vegetable Chow Mein - decent flavors - Cucumber Salad was prob the tastiest of all - Green onion pancakes - soy sauce/vinegar mix was missing flavors along with the pancake itself Overall, I think that for the long wait, the food isn’t worth it if you’re NOT a vegetarian. For vegetarians, there’s plenty of options but this would not be my go-to-place for Chinese food.

Google
Sooooo so GOOD!! I’ve tried many dumpling spots, because i’m quite literally obsessed with them! 😭 Journey to the dumpling is on the top of my list in regards to flavor and service. The atmosphere is also very calming, can’t complain at all! The staff are very attentive you don’t have to ask for much they’ll help you before you do! We ordered the pork soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings, wontons in chili oil(personal favorite) fried rice and cucumber salad. As well as potstickers but that was the only dish I feel lacked flavor. Other than that I recommend them so much! Please try their chili oil also, very flavorful! You can also buy some to take home! Happy eating y’all!:)

I came here on Saturday night with some friends for dinner. Toward the end of our meal, we noticed one of the staff using an electric fly swatter—and not just for one or two bugs. She was relentlessly zapping bugs all around the restaurant, while customers were still eating. It was extremely off-putting, especially since it was happening over the bar area and near where food was being closed up. She was laughing about it, which made the situation even more uncomfortable. We were so grossed out we couldn’t continue eating and decided to say something. We brought it up to our server and told him how inappropriate and unsanitary it was to be killing bugs around guests and food. His response? "Well, it’s part of our closing duties." That alone is a huge red flag. It’s unacceptable for a staff member to ignore the discomfort of their guests. If your “closing duties” involve actively killing bugs in the dining area, that’s not just unprofessional—it’s a major health concern. We asked to speak to a manager, who we could clearly see and hear refusing to come over. Instead, the server returned and offered us a 10% discount, saying "If you don’t want to accept this, I can ask the manager again." At that point, we were too disgusted to continue the conversation. We paid our bill and asked the server if he seriously thought this was acceptable. His response? "Well, I’ve been to worse." That pretty much says it all. This place has no regard for cleanliness, food safety, or customer experience. I’ve never felt so sick to my stomach at a restaurant—and I’ll never be coming back.

Google
Food: the dishes are amazingly good! Everything goes well with their chili oil and vinegar! This time we’re only a party of two, and the portion is good enough to fill our late lunch after a road trip. The Xiao Long Bao is very juicy and fresh, a must try! Service: shout out to our server Henry. He is very nice and he also packed us the chili oil and vinegar with our to go box. The time we came in is very close to their end of business hour but the staff are very warm and welcoming! Ambiance: casual place for family and friends.

Yelp
Why 3 stars you ask? The vegan dumplings are always good but do not get the wonton soup. I bought one Friday evening and it tasted funky. It was not fresh and I think a restaurant should know better than to serve their customer expired meat and soup to save a few dollars from throwing it away. Saving a couple of dollars today will cost you more in the future. Disgusting!

Yelp
Ambiance: Very simple decor with HD TVs around. Easy to move around and very lively. Service: From the host to the wait staff; EXCELLENT! Food: I hadn't been there for 5 years. It was better than I remembered. Fresh and delicious!

Yelp
We went right when it opened so service was fast and good. The steamed dumplings were amazing and juicy. Wonton with chili oil was 3.5/5 The fried dumplings was okay 2/5

Yelp
Located in the shopping place with Target near DSW. They're usually busy and I've eaten there, ordered third party delivery, on their website they have online ordering with toast.. They have Impossible and they have Vegan Dumplings and I haven't had the Impossible but the it's the Vegan Dumplings are for me. I'd try other places with Vegan Dumplings and I always revert back to Journey to the Dumpling. I think they're better. And for that-- 5 stars.

Yelp
So glad we tried this spot. The soup dumplings had so much flavor and they were HUGE. I would definitely get the green beans with garlic and soup dumplings again!
google avatar

Yelp
Happened to stumble upon this place and was not disappointed! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, especially the garlic noodles and wontons! I went on a Saturday afternoon so it was busy, but the food came out fairly quickly. The restaurant is located in a big shopping center, so there is plenty of parking. 10/10 would recommend eating here.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was good. Service was excellent this trip. Floors are slippery depending on the soles of your shoes. Place is always busy with a wait. The spicy wontons were over boiled and mushy. The beef chow fun is a huge order but not yummy. The spare ribs were good and not too fatty. Soup dumplings were really good. Green beans were okay. Walnut shrimp was okay. Beef noodle soup was good.

Yelp
Party of 8 on a Saturday, early dinner BUT we were lucky, because in n hour or so, when we were seated, it got Busy & for us, we were seated right away Lots of parking, because it's located in a huge shopping plaza, around lots of other restaurants & stores. They were friendly from the time you walked into the restaurant, got seated, placed your order & while enjoying the yummy dishes, they were on it, making sure our waters stayed filled & if we needed to order any other items. Everything we also got from the menu was very yummy & worth what we paid for. This place did not disappoint, especially if you're craving some good dim sum.

Yelp
We came to the plaza for another eatery, but decided to eat at Journey to the Dumplings instead after my son's fall festival. The restaurant upon walking in was pretty packed but we were able to get seated right away. I definitely ordered more than I should have. We got the crystal shrimp, suimai, steamed dumplings, wontons in chili oil, the beef soup, and the soup dumplings. Let me just say the wontons/dumplings are HUGE! And although I appreciate the size, the taste was also really good. The soup dumplings were my favorite. All the wontons/dumplings, I dipped in chili oil. You can purchase their chili oil as well. I had my partner and our two boys, and we had leftovers. We sat in a booth and it fit us all comfortably. The place was very clean and overall just had a homey feeling to it. Part of me hopes they'll make a chocolate dumpling

Yelp
Visiting this place again after their new restaurant opening and I'm kind of disappointed. Their green bean was a bit too salty for my liking, they threw it into a wok when it was hot enough so they're still kinda raw. I'm used to the cracked skin but still crunchy. Salted egg shrimp was a complete miss. I would've expected it to be a traditional dish you would find at a Chinese restaurant but the combo just didn't make sense. On top of that, there was no salted egg flavor, just complete grease and chili flakes. Broccoli was a weird combo but a great was to get your fiber in. Fujian fried rice was great! The star of the show was the salt & pepper tofu. Perfect crispy. It was nice and hot. Everyone comes for the soup dumpling and I love it! Best XLB in Sac. I like to eat it when it's piping hot. The service was great. Green beans always take forever to come out so be prepared for that. I'm also going on a triple digit weather day and it's very humid in here, their A/C broke so be aware of that!

Yelp
If you like large plump dumplings, this is the place to eat them when in Elk Grove. There are also buns and noodle dishes that are authentically Chinese cuisine. Service was prompt on a Wednesday at 12:30 PM for five of us. The restaurant interior is orderly and modern with booths and tables.

Kaiwen J.

Yelp
A bit of mixed bag. The good dishes were really good, and the others were quite mediocre. We had 6 dishes for lunch on a sunday. The great: xiaolongbao, and wonton in chilly oil The good: green onion pancake and garlic noodles The mediocre: pan fried pork bun (very appealing appearance, but the texture is stiff with flavors on the blander side) and potstickers (the fillings had very little flavors. Bland and relied heavily on dipping sauce). The service was attentive and fast. Give it 4 stars since we really liked several of its dishes.
google avatar

Nishalina B.

Yelp
Ordered the vegetarians dumplings and they're the best I've had! I even ordered a second order to go. I also got the spicy eggplant with flounder. It was tasty. Ate it over white rice. Next time I go, I'd like to try more things on their menu. Like their garlic noodles, or a soup.

Yelp
First time visiting this location for lunch it didn't disappoint. We ordered the shrimp appetizer, chicken egg rolls, chicken chow mein and pork and chives soup dumplings. The food was fantastic! The flavors were so good and their hot chili oil is seriously the best! Also, the portions are generous for the price which I always appreciate. The service was exceptional too! Our server delivered great customer service. He was kind, checked in on us frequently and offered suggestions. With our lunch we had some wine and beer too! I can't wait to come back and try other dishes.
google avatar

Joey Y.

Yelp
Came here yesterday since it's been awhile. The chili oil wasn't as spicy as it used to be. Neither was the spicy wonton. But the food itself was still delicious. Tried the flounder which was delicious. But what really impacted my experience and honestly if it does occur again I would consider probably never coming back. Had a table for 6. 3 adult and 3 kids (teens). We sat down. The server (female) gave us the menus. A few minutes later she comes and heads directly towards one of the teens and says "you don't need this right?" It made it extremely awkward. We just nodded. She took it and brought it to another table. Like seriously. Professionalism! You could say "hi. Do you mind if another table borrows this?" "We're short a menu. Do you mind if we take the extra?" There are thousands of ways to ask in a better way. AND you could ask the adults. Not turn to the teenagers in such a rude way. Yea it annoyed me greatly. That's so rude and disrespectful. I'll be real. Had had the other staff not been excellent. Frequently checking in and refilling. And had it not been an automatic gratuity for a party of 6+. That tip would look different.

Yelp
Driving from Sacramento and was craving Chinese food. Already in Elk Grove, we put in "Asian food" in our maps. It took us to "Journey To The Dumpling" and I'm so glad it did! I ordered a variety of food and ALL of it was delicious. My favorite was the green beans and zucchini that's smothered in a light butter sauce. The dumplings were FULL of flavor, especially when dipped in the ginger sauce. What I loved more than anything about this establishment was our waitress, Anika. She took time to explain the menu to my family and I. She was very kind and checked on our table numerous times. She was very patient and friendly. Through out my whole dining experience, she was on top of everything. I love nothing more than phenomenal customer service. Overall, the restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. The food was excellent. The water was tasty. This food is flavorful and authentic.

Yelp
Quick service and food is ok. I want to try pan fried soup bao next time. In my opinion everything is overpriced.

Yelp
Journey to the dumpling is delicious and always busy inside! I was surprised that there were still a few tables available on a Saturday afternoon. Service was great and the food came out pretty fast after ordering. It took about 10 minutes only. Our server was also quick to refill waters and bring us extra condiments that we asked for. I love their salt and pepper spare ribs, garlic noodles, and garlic green beans. Everything is flavorful and portion sizes are decent. The soup dumplings were good, but not as good as it used to be for some reason. The top of it was kind of dry and chewy despite it being steamed and brought out to us right after. Next time I will get their chili wontons instead. Since this is a family-style restaurant, it is better to eat out with friends and family because you can order and try out more items on the menu. I like how they have a lot TVs mounted on the walls that play different shows such as cartoons and sports, so that there is something entertaining for everyone to enjoy while eating.

Yelp
Love love love this place! This location is very small so wait times here are usually pretty long if you don't prepare to arrive ahead of time to get on the waitlist. This is definitely one of those restaurants where the food is better when dining in. It's very loud inside because large groups are always coming here due to their family servings. MUST TRY ITEMS: Garlic noodles with shrimp XLB Mushroom bao buns Eggplant with cod spicy wontons Garlic string beans Egg Tarts Chilli oil
google avatar

Tomomi S.

Yelp
Delicious foods! I enjoyed eating lunch here with my friends. We were the first customer of the day but regardless the service was very attentive and friendly. And the soup dumplings! Eat them while they're hot, or they'll stick to the paper and ripped the skin of the dumpling! We made that mistake as we were busy chatting. Cucumber salad was crunchy and fresh and tasty. I look forward to coming here again.
google avatar

Lil B.

Yelp
They get 4 stars for the great service and it's nice to use the Yelp app to get on the waitlist. Thank you April, our server, for trying to find a dish that didn't have eggs due to someone's allergy. That was a tough one... all the noodles made with egg, all the dumplings have eggs as an ingredient (I think to seal them or in the wrapper) and the fried shrimp - eggs in the breading. The eggless choice was the chow fun (offered with black bean or brown sauce). And the other dishes we ordered - pork belly noodle soup and chicken dumpling noodle soup. Sadly the chow fun noodles seemed a bit sticky and gelatinous (maybe overcooked or over sauced or both). The brown sauce was described to be a "salty" sauce but it wasn't salty at all. Not awful but wasn't super great. Pork belly soup was LOVED - the meat was cooked to perfection. The chicken dumpling soup probably would be good for a kid. Very basic flavor, that's ok but I needed something else so I added a big scoop of chili oil. This is one of the places in EG that closes at 830pm on a Saturday night. So few places stay open later in EG. They were busy all night and the city loves this place - it just wasn't IT for us today. Oh well. In spite of all that happened- I'd still recommend the place. Service was good and the room was happy.

Pritika R.

Yelp
It is a very good spot to get food you love. A variety of different tastes. I used to go there every week because I love their dumplings. I went after a month and the dumplings didnt taste the same as before. I didnt taste thw freshness and the real taste of dumpling. Tasted like it was frozen and cooked after. The food doesn't taste the same. I dont know if they changed the chef or just the menu.

Yelp
The food was decent, but the wait quite long! I was visiting friends in the area and we decided to come here for lunch. Since they were locals, they warned that there will most likely be a wait (turned out to be a 1 hour+ wait). We ordered the Peking Spare Ribs, Garlic Noodles with Chicken, Xiao Long Bao, Pan Fried Pork Buns, and Wonton in Chili Oil. We also got white rice as a side dish. Standouts were the spare ribs, XLB, and the buns. It was a filling meal and there were leftovers to take home, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here due to the long wait.

Yelp
Dont fall for the hype! Brought my lil family here for dinner, our visit was over $100 for the 4 of us only to find out the food was terrible. Will not come back for anything they offer & will never suggest this place to anyone.

Yelp
We decided to take the Journey to "Journey To The Dumpling". Being new-ish to the Elk Grove area we decided to return and try Journey - as we've continually heard many good things about this establishment. When we arrived at Journey, looking through the windows, we noticed that all the tables were filled with people eating joyfully and fastidiouslty, smiles and conversations abuzz, but not too loud. We could tell that all the staff looked very busy, and we were very surprised as to how happy everybody's faces looked whilst serving the multitude of customers. As we entered through the door we were promptly and happily greeted by Arri. She asked how many people were in our party, reviewed the waitlist, and said that our table would be ready approximately 25, or so. As she spoke, and although she was wearing an N95 mask, her sincere voice and obvious smile came through, not withstanding the mask, in the tone of her voice and through her expressive eyes. She asked for our number stating that we would receive a text once our table was ready. As we left, we noticed that the line of people waiting to be seated was a bit surprising. We were thinking that this place must be really good. We took this time to explore the nearby stores... Time flew by and we were excited when we received the text that our table was ready. We entered Journey and were promptly seated by Randy, our waiter. Randy asked if this was our first visit and asked if he could bring us some drinks as we perused their menu. We ordered ice water, and I ordered a Long Island Iced tea. He looked up sharply, laughed, and said that they did not have Long Island Iced tea at this location, but that the other Journey To The Dumpling location in Midtown Sacramento offered beer, Soju (Using the Golden Ratio),and wine, but no hard liquor or cocktails. Ahhhh, too bad! A few minutes later Randy returned took our order. As we waited for our food and appetizers to arrive, we once again noticed how busy Journey was, and how quickly and efficiently the staff moved throughout the restaurant helping other customers, taking orders, bringing food to their tables, and supplying customers with utensils and re-filling drinks as requested. It was almost as if Ryan, Cris, and Josh (and the other staff ) were a well trained roller hockey team. They moved so smoothly as if with practiced dexterity and with brutal grace - a combination of contrasting elements, like strength and elegance! Not once did any of the staff miss a customers' request for service or fail to quickly clean off a table in preparation for the next awaiting customer. Wow! What a team! Good job guys! Whoot whoot! The food came out and I'm happy to say that we enjoyed every bite of the food that was placed in front of us. The smell, taste, texture, and savory aromas were yummy and intoxicating. We ordered the following: Barbecue pork - sliced Har gow - Shrimp dumplings Xiao long bau - soup noodles Cucumber salad Garlic green beans Chicken chow fun Wontons in chili oil & Minced pork baos We'll definitely return as we saw many more decidedly delictible items on the menu that we can't wait to try. That said, the Journey to the Journey was well worth the Journey! The only thing that was lacking was the Long Island Iced tea that I was so yearning for. Oh well. I'll probably grab a my favorite tea just before we return. Lol. JK! Pictures to follow in a subsequent review, a when the food hit the table, we were scarfing it down! No apologies! Just a big Yummy!

Yelp
The restaurant is a decent size, and they do pack in as many tables as possible to accommodate the crowd, but still be prepared for a long wait during peak hours. Their menu is extensive with plenty to choose from. Love the design of the menu, and love how it has pictures for almost everything! Though prices are on the higher side for the portions. That said, it's typical for dim sum-style restaurants. Everything we tried was perfectly seasoned, and the flavors were consistently excellent across all three of my visits. Their chili sauce is pretty good though! It's so good that you can even buy it to-go! Must-tries include: xiao long bao (juicy), siu mai (classic), har gow (classic), green onion pancake (crispy, flaky).

Paul W.

Yelp
Journey to the Dumpling never disappoints! The dumplings are always fresh, handmade, and bursting with flavor you can taste the quality in every bite. The menu has something for everyone, and everything we tried came out hot, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully prepared. The service is fast and friendly, and the staff truly makes you feel welcome. The restaurant is clean, comfortable, and has a great atmosphere for both dine-in and takeout. If you love dumplings or just want an amazing meal, Journey to the Dumpling is a top pick. We keep coming back because it's consistently delicious and one of the best spots around!

Yelp
I was in Elk Grove and I wanted to sit down and eat after shopping. I looked up this spot and we decided to go. I'm glad I seen the "add to waitlist" tab because it said it was a 50 minute wait. To buy time, I went to DSW and bought some shoes. I was about 5th in line so I ended up checking in. She said it'd be another 5 to 10 minutes. The host was nice and sat us to our seat. It was pretty packed in there. What you see is what you get. The restaurant size is very limited. Our server was really nice and on it. We ordered the pork bao, which came rather quickly, which I enjoyed because I was hungry! There were so good, warm, and soupy. It was perfect for the cold weather. We also got chicken dumplings, which were good with the chili oil. Next came the walnut shrimp. It was covered in the sauce. Then the garlic noodles came. I felt the garlic noodles were too salty. My husband couldn't eat it. I think it was the Parmesan that added to the saltines. We ended up taking the noodle to go as the two of us were pretty full from the first three entrees. The server was nice enough to offer us a last refill before the tab or chili oil to go with our to go box. Overall, we had a good meal and great service. I would definitely go again for the bao!

Yelp
Utterly enamored with Journey to the Dumpling. It's safe to say that in the short time I've lived in Sacramento, this has become my standard for soup dumplings. I love them here because the soup inside is so savory and flavorful, the filling is succulent, AND the wrappers strike a perfect balance between tender and a good, satisfying chew. They are not too thick, but also not so thin that the dumplings break easily when lifting. Just perfect! Service is always very warm and snappy even when it's super busy. I've never had a problem requesting more vinegar or chili oil as well. The wait can be long during busy hours but it has been well worth it every time!

Yelp
Great food! Very tasty. I enjoyed their calamari most. The services are quick and servers are nice.

Yelp
Party of 6 on a Monday night, put our name down on the waitlist before 7PM. Haven't been here in a minute but they are open later than the midtown location, with pretty much the same menu and better parking situation if you're willing to drive a little further south of Sacramento. I was so engaged in this group dinner that I neglected to snap any food photos at all, can you believe it? We did get the siumai, hargow, wontons with chili oil, chow fun beef with gravy, peking spare ribs, and green beans. Everything was tasty and easily shareable. Did not overdo it this time with ordering, usually there is enough for leftover to take home. We actually had room left for dessert and migrated over to Handel's across the parking lot.

Yelp
I've been eating at journey every few months since they opened. I try to stick to ordering dumplings since everything I've ever ordered that wasn't dumplings were pretty mediocre. Service is OK. I just like having a good place for dumplings during dinner time.

Yelp
Right up front - the only reason I'm tempted to rank 4 stars (not 5) is the interminable wait times during dinner. We got on their wait list in advance and still had to wait 30 minutes to get in. And that itself speaks to their popularity. Took my son, daughter in law and granddaughters to dinner here. Soup dumplings, loads of other dumplings, chow mein, spring rolls - I forget everything we ordered (as we put in follow ups after our initial). Food is delicious - every single selection. Just as importantly, server was patient, kind, helpful, friendly. Despite the heavy, heavy traffic, ours kept things upbeat and light - which I appreciate. Interestingly, in a strip of the mall dominated by Asian - there's a sushi place on one side, and noodles and Thai all in this part of the strip - JTTD is the only one with a long waitlist and bunch of us waiting outside trying to keep our kids out of the water fountain. One way to look at that is they need to hire more staff and expand table capacity. But the other perspective is they must certainly be doing more than a few things well to generate this kind of demand.

Yelp
I can only comment on the food and it was all good! I can't wait to try their dim sum.

Yelp
Worth the Wait... But Get on the List Early! Visited this spot with my daughter on a spontaneous weekend trip -- and learned the hard way that planning ahead is a must! We drove an hour and ended up waiting three hours to be seated (yes, really). If you want to fully enjoy this place, join the waitlist early or be prepared for a long wait. There were a few times we almost gave up, but after waiting that long, we decided to stick it out -- and I'm glad we did. Once seated, the service was quick and friendly, and the food arrived fast. We ordered the wontons in chili oil, garlic noodles with shrimp, pork and shrimp xiao long bao, and cucumber salad. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The wontons in chili oil were the standout -- perfectly tender with bold, savory flavor and just the right amount of spice. The garlic noodles were another favorite, full of garlicky goodness and perfectly cooked shrimp. This place definitely lives up to the hype, but it gets extremely busy, so plan ahead or prepare to wait. If you can be patient, it's absolutely worth it for the food and overall experience.

Yelp
The food here is good. The dumplings are the best. My go to meal here is the steak and potatoes.

Yelp
I came here at the last hour before their lunch closing upon the recommendation of a friend. We were seated after waiting for 5 minutes. We ordered their pork soup dumplings, Siu Mai, and pan fried pork buns. These were all excellent. The pork soup dumplings have good size meatballs inside. The outside wrapper is perfectly thin and flavored well. The pan fried pork buns tasted as good as they looked. And last but not the least, my personal favorite were their Siu Mais. Let's talk about their height-about 2" tall!they were juicy, tender, and so good! I've never had Siu Mai this yummy. I will definitely go back just for this! Now, I ordered the Hong Kong-style chow mein with chicken and steak fried rice for to-go. The Hong Kong style chow mein is usually made with white gravy but they used brown gravy which kinda threw me off at first. The overall taste is still good. On the other hand, the steak fried rice is bland. It had no carrots and peas and very dry. I took 1 star off of my review based on the last dish.

Yelp
Food: the dishes are amazingly good! Everything goes well with their chili oil and vinegar! This time we're only a party of two, and the portion is good enough to fill our late lunch after a road trip.

Yelp
Years later, we still love eating here. The service is friendly, and we always enjoy their garlic noodles with chicken.

Yelp
We went for lunch and the service was fast and great. Everything had so much flavor. The pork soup dumplings are a must get every time. The Peking spare ribs were delicious with a sweet and tangy flavor. The chili oil is not too spicy but has great flavor, you'll want to purchase a jar to go.

Yelp
ordered food to go, was told the wait was 5-10 minutes so i sat at a table to wait for my food near the door since there was no bench to sit on. but was asked to go outside. apparently i have to wait outside so more people want to come in??? im a paying customer... and mind you there are more than 15 open tables, only 2 were occupied. If it'd be busy i would definitely understand but this i couldn't. Was excited to come back with the family for a dine in but this was extremely rude, will not return. server: Jane S date: 10/7/25 time: 5:03 pm

Yelp
Dumplings are hand made and fresh. Always flavorful. Service has always been good, not over and above but good. The restaurant is usually very busy and gives a good urban nightlife feel to it.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night around 5:30pm for a party of 2 and our wait was a little over an hour. Yelp Tip: join the wait list! Food: Honey walnut shrimp 9/10 Xiao long bao pork - 10/10 Salt and pepper founder - 7/10 was not crispy seemed as if it was sitting out a little too long than it should prior to being served. Chili oil wontons - 7/10 good but could pass on it next time. Basically it's the xiao long boa without the soup. Just ask for extra chili oil and it's the same thing. Siu Mai - 9/10

Yelp
If you're looking for great food look no further. The dumplings are so delicious. Make sure you come early because it gets crowded fast. Amazing ! Enjoy.

Yelp
I love this restaurant and always order the potstickers as a side - they are light with a crispy overflow of something? But tonight, they are completely different and are heavy, have a strange flavor and just not good - can't even eat them - I'm so disappointed! They had to have changed the recipe and it's not a winner. Hope they return to the former recipe. I'll give it a 2 for the potstickers only! Otherwise, the quality of the other items are great!

Yelp
Service was attentive and friendly. Ambiance/atmosphere was clean and the neon wall was cool. A small outdoor patio fronts a pretty busy road. Food: Impossible dumpling was good especially dipped in the black vinegar sauce. Mushroom BAO bun was just okay. Not very flavorful and bun was thicker than wanted. Their specialty pork soup dumpling was okay. Hard to eat even if you puncture and drain the soup to slurp later, too large to eat in one bite and the pork flavor was bland and forgettable. Wanted to love it; sad I didn't. Seemed very popular so MIGHT go back to try something other than dumplings but was dissatisfied since that's the specialty.

Yelp
Been meaning to review again. Journey has become one of our go-to places for chinese food! The prices arent bad and their portions are pretty good! We usually order plain garlic noodles, steak and potatoes, and the sweet and sour pork ribs(?), and sometimes the xiao long bao. Theyre garlic noodles are very good and its not worth to get meat on it bc they dont give much so it better to jus get steak and potatoes. We sometimes order their carb dishes and the portions are pretty good but flavor lacks a bit sometimes. Service is always good as well. Depending on time and day youll have to wait a bit but its not too bad.

Yelp
came on a weekday for lunch and wasn't busy, but i know there's usually a wait on weekends! we order XLB, siu mai and beef noddle soup XLB- so tasty and juicy!! even without the dipping sauces, the meat is flavorful and succulent. one of the better xlb i've tried. siu mai- my hubby loves these, and says these are one of the best he's tried!! They are a tad salty, so pairing it with the vinegar balances it perfectly! such a good combo together beef noodle soup- very good. meat was tender and brother had a nice flavor, not to light or heavy. noodles were chewy and great! decent sized place, and calm/quiet during the weekdays, but be prepared to wait on weekends! definitely would return if i'm in the area!
