A month ago, I had no idea what onigiri was, and now I can't go a week without one. This is a tasty little rice ball similar to hand rolls filled with a variety of ingredients, made fresh with every order and individually wrapped. So far, I have tried kani avocado, gyu-don (thingly sliced beef and sautéed onions), and shrimp tempura onigiri - don't ask me which one is my favorite because I loved all of them, especially with a splash of soy sauce. These rice balls are a convenient, cheap, quick snack for times when I'm not hungry enough for a poke bowl or have time for a sushi order at one of the countless sushi restaurants around. I usually eat my onigiri right on the bench outside the store, as I gawk at Smith Street passerby's.
I love unique snacks and weird chip flavors, the weirder the better. At Juju's, I can get dried calamari, honey-butter flavored potato chips, and an array of green tea flavored candy, all in one place. That makes me happy. Actually browsing all of Juju's fun Asian snacks for an inappropriately long time makes me happy.
Juju's menu also offers sandwiches, all day breakfast, wraps, salads, ramen, dumplings, rice bowls, bubble tea, fresh juice and smoothies. I do wish they had online delivery or even paper menus available because calling to order is quite an outdated concept in this day and age.
Dare I say it? This is my new favorite deli. Juju is the ray of sunshine Smith Street was desperately needing.
