Kam's Roast Goose - Atlas Obscura

"The restaurant is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The ordering and queuing system is peculiar: first you must ask the host or hostess inside whether they have any goose left, if they do they'll ask how many people, if sit-down or takeaway, and if you're ordering a half or whole goose (a whole one is probably recommended for six people, maybe a minimum of four if particularly hungry)." - Atlas Obscura

Kam's Roast Goose

"For over 70 years, the Kams have been famous for their roast goose and this shop was opened by the third generation. But the goose extravaganza doesn’t stop at their juicy roast goose with crispy skin. Try also their silky, melty goose blood pudding or the decadent blanched noodles tossed in goose fat. Other Cantonese barbecue dishes glistening in the window are also worth trying. With only 30 seats, don’t be surprised to see a queue." - Michelin Inspector

The 38 Best Restaurants in Hong Kong | Eater

"Flip through any Hong Kong guidebook written before 2010, and Yung Kee was probably high on the restaurant list for its famous roast goose. It was a Hong Kong legend, but a high‐profile family feud regarding ownership of the restaurant divided the clientele. Many food lovers now prefer Kam’s; it’s operated by a portion of the family that left Yung Kee and took chefs with them. Although a much less glamorous establishment than Yung Kee, Kam’s lack of VIP rooms and frivolous banquet menus means that they concentrate on what they do best — Cantonese‐style barbecued meats. Shop opens at 1130. Came at 11.20am on a Saturday. Waited for 1hour before i got my food. Ordered upper half for $170, cucumber for $30 and a cold drink for $23. Meat was good tasting. Flavorful goose skin is oily in a good way but meat was a bit on the tough side which is not surprising given the upper half. But the problem is they sold out of the lower half. But since you have half a goose. Why not cut half of it and give me the lower? But yeah not worth the 1hour queue especially when it isn't difficult for you to get similar quality DUCK else where.

Google
Good spot for roast goose, pork and char siew. We went on a weekday and waited for close to 20 minutes. We specially felt in love with the preserved egg, boiled soup and the meats. Staffs were friendly and approachable. Will return again if in Hong Kong. Thank you

We visited Kam’s Roast Goose in Wan Chai expecting a legendary meal after hearing so much buzz. Sadly, it was a huge letdown from start to finish. First, the wait: we stood outside for 2 hours under the hot sun. It felt like the disorganized line system was designed to confuse rather than help. A female staff member kindly gave us a number when we put down our name, but what followed was frustrating. A tall young male employee came out calling numbers — only in Chinese. When we politely asked what number he was calling, he gave us a fake smile and walked away with another group. No explanation. When I approached again, he looked annoyed and snapped, “Ma’am!” in a rude tone. All we needed was clarification. The lack of basic courtesy was shocking. Now the food: • The roast goose had a slight duck-like smell — not overpowering, but noticeable enough to be unpleasant. • The skin was not crispy at all, just wet and greasy, like it had been soaked in oil. • The flavor leaned sweet, lacking the savory depth or seasoning you’d expect from a Michelin-starred place. • As for the “special” ginger tea — it was just boiled water with ginger and sugar. Nothing special at all. After a 2-hour wait, we were expecting something memorable. Unfortunately, the food was average at best and the service made it worse. The only friendly face was the woman who took our name — everyone else seemed indifferent or outright rude. If you’re really curious about how it tastes, come and order a small to-go portion which will be fast, just a 10-15 mins wait. Definitely won’t be returning or recommending.

Google
On recommendation and based on its Michelin stars, we paid this establishment a visit. The wait wasn’t bad - in total about 15-20 minutes on a Tuesday morning. We entered into a loud cheery restaurant. The service was excellent and the waitress recommended a very apt amount of goose, and we paired this with rice. The goose itself was good. The skin was crispy and the meat was generally a bit juicy with a bit of bite. However, I’ve experienced slightly better cooked goose with a little less oil, so I can’t give the full five star on food. The plum sauce was excellent. Recommend for a visit if you’re in town.

Google
Really really good roasted goose. I recommend ordering the bottom half portion (you can select when ordering). Staffs are very kind and chatty, prices are reasonable. A pity that only tourists come here now. I wish locals gotta enjoy the food here as well. Tips: start queuing at 1045am

When you Google Best Roast Goose in Hong Kong, this usually comes up top. We arrived around 12pm on a weekday and got a number, then waited for around 25 mins. The waiter suggested we get Half a Goose, Mix Half/Half Roast Pork and BBQ Pork, 2 Bowls of Rice and a bowl of Noodles to share among 2 Adukts and 2 Kids. We had just the right amount. Delicious and worth the money. They do accept Visa/Mastercard for transactions over $250 HKD

Google
VERY disappointing food for a Michelin-graded restaurant. The goose was chewy throughout. It was also very fatty, though the skin was crispy. I have tasted better goose from lesser-known restaurants in Hong Kong. Secondly, they force all diners to order a minimum of half a goose. This penalizes those who dine in as a couple. Overall, a less than average experience. Not recommended. If you want roasted goose, try elsewhere.

Google
Went on a Monday at 16:00 and sat immediately. Goose and pork are for sure the best I’ve tried in Hong Kong. Price is also reasonable. Noodles are also good. For sure excellent taste of duck and fast service. Make sure you get a number from inside before standing in line.

Yelp
I was excited to try this place after hearing it was highly rated by locals and located near my hotel. I later found out it even had a Michelin star, which made me even more eager to give it a go. Initially, I planned to dine in and received a number, but there was a long line, and you had to be there when they called your number. If you missed it by five numbers, you'd lose your spot. Since my number was far away, I decided to take a stroll around the neighborhood and come back. When I returned, the line had barely moved, so I asked if they offered takeout--and they did! I was able to place an order right away, and it was ready in about five minutes. As for the food, I ordered roast goose, steamed chicken, soya chicken, and BBQ pork (they had run out of roast suckling pig). The roast goose and BBQ pork were my favorites, but everything was delicious. The prices were reasonable too, and I'd definitely recommend it!

Yelp
My first experience at a Michelin star restaurant did not disappoint but unlike many other Michelin restaurants, did not break the bank. This was also my first time eating goose and the bar has been set HIGH. We also ordered the barbecue pork belly and the Prince Kinsen Noodle. All sooooooo good. The goose reminded me of duck and was so so good. The pork belly was what you think of for Chinese barbecue pork, but fatty, hence pork belly. Best Chinese barbecue pork I've had. And the Prince Kinsen noodle was surprisingly good! Some reviews on here are unimpressed, but I think they were soooooo good. They look understated and plain but don't be fooled, they were super tasty. We went on a weekday mid afternoon and waited an hour, which all things concerned wasn't too bad. You do have to go in and get a number. No reservations. So so glad we went out of our way to come here.

Yelp
I needed to see what the hype was with this place. Considering the line looked a bit ridic, I grabbed a ticket, walked around & came back. Holy mother, was it worth the 1 hour wait? The goose was sooooo juicy! Dripping au jus, the meat was perfect - tender and meaty encased by goose fat and crispy skin. And those soybeans that were soaked in the sauce? Yeah, they were packing with so much flavor and you can just tell based on how translucent they became. The hostess came by and spoke to me in Canto and said she would hook me up. Indeed, she hella did! Worth the hype! Just be prepared to wait.

Yelp
Came here for the hype and to see if a goose can be THAT good. Goose is good but not worth the expensive price tag. Only a few pieces were crispy but the meat was tender. The sauce used is peanutty and pairs with the goose well. Their plum sauce is fresh and tastes much better than the packet stuff. We got a side of noodles and it was quite overcooked. Service was quick and they try to clean up fast to accomodate the next round. They don't serve water unless you ask.

Yelp
Why would people wait one, two or two and a half hours to dine here? It's because they have earned 1 Michelin Star for 9 consecutive years. This was one of the many Michelin Star restaurants that I wanted to dine at during our trip to Hong Kong. When we got there, we stood in line because there is no instructions on what to do. People behind us did the same thing. Apparently you have to get a number then stand in line. That bit of information would have been nice to know because without knowing that, it added 30 minutes to our already long wait. The moment finally came when we got inside. For how busy the place is, the inside was relatively quite clean but loud. Sitting down felt so good and we were starving. Especially after we did Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery before coming here. With all the time in line, we knew exactly what we wanted. We ordered Roast Goose, BBQ Pork (Char Siu), preserved Egg with Pickled Ginger and BBQ Pork Belly. The Roast Goose was AMAZING and I can see why people line up to try it. In hindsight, I would just order the Roast Goose as takeout and eat elsewhere. Live and learn right?

Yelp
We visited on a Wednesday evening. We arrived approximately 6pm. At that time, our wait time from queuing up to receiving the goose at our table was just shy of an hour. The goose was well-worth the hour wait. I am not sure if I could claim it is worth a two hour wait. I've read some have stood in line for two hours or so. The place is rather small. It looks to seat 30-40 at a time. Bonus: they have a clean, western-style bathroom. Once we were seated, we were able to order other items such as cucumber salad, their noodles and drinks. The food comes out super-fast...within minutes. At first I thought ordering two 1/4 goose portions was too much for the two of us, but we were able to finish everything and were not stuffed. I like the roast goose, but to be honest, it tastes a lot like duck to me. This is my second time eating goose and I probably am not quite tuned into the difference in flavor between the two. The noodles we ordered were ok. We ordered them because they were featured prominently on the menu. The nuances of the flavor profile may have been lost on me as I didn't expect the noodles to be so plain, but maybe that was the intent. My husband liked the noodles better than I did, but it may be due to expectation. I will surely try them again, given the opportunity. Tips: As soon as you arrive, go to the front and get a queue number and place your order for the goose. You can order other items once you are seated. If your group is two or more, I suppose you can send some to actually stand in queue, while another gets the queue number and orders the goose. You have 60-minutes to dine. If you don't care to dine on premises, it's faster to order take-out. I think it's 10-15 min to receive your order. Take the receipt left at your table and Pay the cashier at the end of your meal. Take a nice stroll to walk off the calories from a good meal! Enjoy!

Yelp
I honestly think this place is a bit overrated. We took the mtr from Mongkok to try this place and it was a Thursday night. It was extremely crowded and it was a one hour wait at least to eat inside. They were sold out of the goose over rice so everything had to be ordered a la carte. We opted for takeaway since it was super fast (less than 10 minutes). The goose skin was super fatty and had excellent flavor but I thought the meat was kinda tough and chewy. The noodle dish we got was super good though. Glad I tried it but maybe I'll try another goose place next time I'm in HK :)

Yelp
Waited 2 hours in line on our 2-day HK trip. We really wanted to have a taste of the Michelin roast goose. I remember bringing my son here a few years back for a short weekend getaway. We bought take out and quickly brought it to the airport to catch our flight. It was still so tender even cold. But I wasn't as impressed last night. My first bite was a bit tough! I love the Price Kinsen noodle with the roast goose sauce on it! Lady looking after the line was very nice, always reminding us that she had not forgotten us.

Yelp
I thought that a typhoon would make the wait shorter but boy, was I wrong! We arrived around 2:15PM and didn't get seated until 3:40PM! With all of their years as a Michelin restaurant, Kam's still is able to draw huge crowds, even during non-peak dining hours. When we arrived, it was a little confusing on how the queue works but I gotchu! If you're ordering for takeout, you can walk-in and order with the cashier. But if you're trying to dine-in, you'll need to grab a queue number inside. Parties larger than 5 don't get queues and I'm not sure how they accommodate for larger groups. Fortunately, they have an English menu but just like any other restaurant in Hong Kong, the servers will get impatient if you take too long so it's best to be prepared before you sit down. Our servers were pretty nice but we were prepared and ready to order as soon as we sat down. The day we visited, there were no rice/noodle combos...everything had to be ordered a la carte. And they ran out of the cucumber salad and almost ran out of the Roast Goose Lower Half. Prince Kinsen Noodle - Springy noodles coated with goose oil. It's not overly salty but it's got a rich, yet simple, profile. The noodles really stick together and the servers saw our struggle. He quickly brought some scissors and cut them into smaller pieces. Roast Goose Lower Half - I prefer dark meat for poultry and the lower half will have the juicier and fattier cuts of meat. It's the more popular option and as I said earlier, they were almost out by the time we sat down. The skin was crispy and each bite was so fatty. If you're not a fan of fatty meats, the lower half might not be for you. Roast Combo with BBQ Pork Belly and Crispy Roast Pork: To try their other meats, we ordered the combo as well. The pork belly was tasty...more on the sweeter side but not that caramelized. The crispy roast pork wasn't too bad but I think it could've been a little crunchier but overall, still good. I mean, their star is the goose so I wasn't really expecting these to be amazing too. Definitely a must-try, especially if you're okay with ordering take-out. We only waited as long as we did because there was nothing else to do but normally, I would never wait this long for food, no matter how good it is. If the wait's shorter than an hour though, you'll just have to tough it out! They accept credit card for bills over HKD250!

Yelp
Unfortunately, Kam's just did not hit for me in my most recent trip to HK. The wait was very long for dine in (which I attempted) but later just opted for take out. I ordered a half duck - which costs about $40 USD (good for about 2-3 people). The duck was overcooked and tough. There were also many pieces that were overly fatty - like literally slabs of fat lol! Flavor wise it's pretty good, but I prefer Yat Lok instead. One other con was that they weren't serving any of their entrees with rice - you only had the option to order a la carte. Servers here are actually very very friendly though, which is nice!

Yelp
Was on vacation in Hong Kong so checked this spot out due to its Michelin rating. Out of the several restaurants I tried in Hong Kong, this was the only one with a line out the door (which is apparently the norm for this spot). This was despite the drizzling rain outside. Had never been here before so just went to the end of the line and waited. After about 30 minutes of waiting in line, one of the restaurant workers came out to everyone waiting and kept repeating "takeaway, 5 minutes!" in both Chinese and English. It took me a minute or so to realize that by "takeaway" she meant "takeout" and that you could order takeout and it would be ready in 5 minutes if you didn't want to stand in line for an inordinate amount of time. So I took that option and left the line to go inside and order takeout. Once I got inside, they explained that you're supposed to get a ticket before waiting in line to dine-in, so I'd been waiting in line basically for nothing anyway, LOL. Ordered their signature roast duck goose ($170 HK) and rice, which I had to order separately a la carte ($15 HK) since it doesn't come with the goose. The order came out 5 minutes later as promised. One mildly annoying thing was, at least for to-go orders, this spot doesn't give you forks, only chopsticks. Because I ordered take-out, I ate the meal on a covered bench across the street. I'll say that I see why the food here is Michelin-rated - the goose was EXTREMELY delicious - very succulent and flavorful. Would've been the best single meal I had in Hong Kong... but one issue I had with it is I think it may have been cooked in peanut oil as I ended up getting a taste in my mouth consistent with a mild allergic reaction. (I have a peanut allergy.) Honestly not sure if it was nuts or something else, but I did have a mild reaction to it (though this wasn't a big deal and didn't last too long despite eating the whole meal). The goose was very, very good and a meal I'd very highly recommend. If I go again, I'll have to ask about how it's cooked to avoid another allergic reaction, LOL...

Yelp
A pricey but very tasty goose. Lowlights: Wait over 30 minutes Had to share a table with only a small plastic divider separating us from the couple on the other side Highlights Very tender and moist goose meat Crispy and flavorful goose skin Good amount of meat on the half goose (lower half included the legs) Friendly staff (best if you can speak Cantonese with them) Business is booming for this restaurant per our chat with the front desk. Just go as early as you can otherwise the closer to closing the likelier they will run out of goose. This happened around 8pm last night. You will know when they are running short of goose when they start asking customer what size and part of the goose you want and they mark it on your ticket.

Yelp
Kam's Roast Goose is excellent, although even at 2pm on a weekday the wait is still an hour. Service is efficient once you do get seated, the roast goose, roast pork, and BBQ pork (char siu) are all very good, and the interior is exactly what you'd expect from such a successful restaurant that remains true to its roots-- nice enough but compact inside, so eat and go, no lingering. The cuts of the pork belly char siu were good but perhaps a bit too fatty-- might stick to the regular char siu (pork but not the belly) next time, and the roast pork felt like I got a lot of the ends and bony bits. Tasty but did not feel like it was really all that much better than many of their competitors.

Yelp
Came 10 minutes early on a wednesday lunch. Still was a long line formed and waited an additional ~20 minutes to get in. Food came fast. Servers can speak english. Ordered lunch set A B and C with two soups and a pomelo ice tea. Three sets were enough for a party of 4. The soup was my favorite part. I believe the noodles use the same soup. A very good experience however it didn't blow me away as I expected this place to do. Just very solid simple food.
google avatar

Robert O.

Yelp
There is a line but you can go straight in for takeaway. In and out within 15 minutes. Not to mention the pork (char siu and suckling) and goose were amazing.
google avatar

Ethan Y.

Yelp
This place gets very, very busy, so line up early to also enjoy the BBQ while it's very fresh. The goose is obviously popular, but their goose blood, BBQ pork, and thousand year old eggs are also good there.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
Sometimes I think the Michelin Star Guide inspectors are getting paid off. I understand why Tim Ho Wan gets one. They are serving up top notch dim sum. But when it comes to roasted meats, for about half the price, you'll get better goose and char sui at Joy Hing as well as a number of other places in Hong Kong. We came here around 7pm and ordered the last goose available as well as a small order of Char Sui, some rice and vegetables. Don't get me wrong it was good. The inside of the restaurant is nicer than most roasted meat restaurants in HK. But quality and value-wise, Kam's Roast Goose doesn't match up.

Yelp
My first meal in HK and I was absolutely glad my colleague took me here for lunch. Getting in this restaurant during peak lunch hours is almost impossible. Its a game of patience! Fortunately, I landed at 2 pm and we were at 3:45 pm and had a small wait of about 15-mins. There is very limited seating, and I wish they make the place a little bigger. The 2 of us were seated on a large table of 6, and we shared our table with 3 others. Their menu clearly marks what this place is known for and we went with those recommendations. We ordered Preserved Egg with Pickled Ginger ($13 ea) as our side, which was really tasty and something very different. I've never tasted anything like this before! For mains, we got the Half Roast Goose ($280) and BBQ Pork Belly (Fatty Char Siu) ($160) - both absolutely delicious! We also got some Milk Tea ($16) - which is exactly like the Indian chai we have back home in India! Service is beyond efficient and food arrived within 10 mins of ordering. It was plenty food for the 2 of us to finish, but we cleaned our plates! Highly recommended.

Yelp
Best Roast goose and suckling pig in the world! They have Michelin Star to prove it! Located on busy Hennessy street, this tiny restaurant produces world class roasted delicacies. Be prepared to wait along the sidewalk for a chance to try some of the tastiest Roast goose: crispy skin on the outside and tender, flavorful meat, and sweet au jus makes this so Incredible! The suckling pig can be a stand-alone favorite: perfectly crispy outside and soft white meat and a mouth watering layer of fat that melts in your mouth. I haven't eaten that much pure fat, but don't regret a single bite! Lastly, the char siu(barbecue pork) perfectly marinated, and cooked to perfection. Tip: avoid the long lines and order take out.
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
The hype is legit! The line was insane when we hopped by on a weekday afternoon. Lining up in the heat is not my thing. Luckily, they do give you a take out option with no wait! Why not? I really want to have the legs but all sold out?! It is only 1 pm and no more.... sadly I could just order the regular goose with rice (HKD$53). Crispy skin with tender meat. Goose meat is more gamey than duck meat but in a good way! Service was friendly and efficient. My tip is to order takeout if you really want to try them out. And just go for a half or quarter goose only with no rice. The star is definitely the meat.

Yelp
I usually don't go out of my way to visit Michelin-starred restaurants, mostly because I don't really care. But roast goose sounded delicious, so I was all in. We got there at around 4-4:30 and waited 20 minutes to get in. Not too shabby, especially since I was using that time to digest my last meal. So many good food spots, not enough stomach space. They were out of the roast goose leg, but that's fine, we wanted regular roast goose plates anyway. The rice is below par, and there's only one measly piece of choy. That's not what you're here for anyway. The star, the roast goose, is fatty and flavorful. It arrives shining in its oily juiciness. Honestly, it's reminiscent of duck to the point where it'd be tricky for me to differentiate the two in a blindfolded taste test. Not that that's a bad thing because I love well-cooked roast duck, but I don't think it's worth the wait or that it tastes so spectacularly different. Other menu items on our table: The BBQ pork (char siu) arrived with a delicious honeyed glaze. A bit fattier than I'd like, but so tender and flavorful. Also, the ginger tea is pretty good. Nice and lightly sweet with that tingly ginger taste lingering in each sip. My friend tried the goose liver sausage and didn't really like it. When we were leaving, they'd already sold out of their plates and were only serving the roast goose a la carte. Lucky us.

Yelp
Where do I begin? Michelin guide led me here. I'm not ever one to judge whether restaurants deserve their Michelin stars -that is not my job. I simply desired getting two geese with one stone: I've never tried goose before and figured a famous roast goose in Hong Kong was fitting for my first. It was, even though I didn't get any legs. I've heard the mixed reviews but I think people don't realize the Michelin star is for the goose. Still, I def get the gripe. Please be picky about birds such as goose and duck. It's a right. All I can say is that it was tasty and tender to me and my party (thus my rating). And I can't believe I ate 1/4 of a goose on my own! -there is a queue but it's normal -they run out of goose quick! -reserve a goose ASAP if you can -don't forget to get a ticketed number BEFORE waiting in line -come for the goose and nothing else -comes with plum sauce :)

Yelp
I have lived in HK for almost two years and haven't tried this place yet because there is always a line out the door. I came here on a Friday afternoon at 4pm and still had to wait in line. As The name implies the place is famous for roast goose. The goose was juicy and flavorful. However there was a little bit too much fat and the mouthfeel was off. Price is reasonable considering how popular this place is. The soya chicken was surprisingly good. I would also recommend the egg noodles with goose fat drippings. The cold marinated goose is ok and would not order that again.

Yelp
There are a few well known spots for roast meat in Hong Kong. Kam's deserves praise. Fatty, tender, succulent. Missed lining up for opening time so take away was an easy choice! In and out in probably 15 minutes tops. Placed an order and held onto a ticket with a number. They called out take away numbers in Chinese. A half roast goose and all the juices and plum sauce were secured tightly in a disposable container and bag.

Yelp
I tried coming here on a late Saturday afternoon and they were sold out!!!! Today I thought I would try again on a Tuesday afternoon and there was a line out the door. The lady suggested I take it to go and eat at a nearby park because it would be way faster than to wait in line and get seated. I took her suggestion and ordered the goose with rice to go. It took less than 5 mins for me order to be ready. It was the most flavorful goose I've ever eaten especially the skin!!! It was so juicy and aromatic!!!! There wasn't a lot of meat though and if you pour the plum sauce with the rice and goose, it taste even better. I'm glad I didn't wait in line!

Yelp
Despite the overabundance of aggressive, honking, green poop machines, goose is not a readily available menu item in Canada. So of course, coming to Hong Kong, where roast goose is not only famous, but Michelin-star famous, I absolutely had to give it a try. Kam's is one of the several critically acclaimed Cantonese BBQ places in HK. I had no idea there was a roast goose debate or a feuding family over a goose legacy (Kam's is a spawn of the legendary Yung Kee). While the feuding is sad, it's good news for us regular folk who welcome new variety and new places to eat the famous dish. Kam's serves (and proudly displays) a beautiful variety of charred meats including suckling pig, char siu, soy chicken, and of course, goose. Coming here means lining up. Coming here solo meant much less lining up! I got a spot within a few minutes, surrounded by tourists. The menus reflect that, with Chinese and English versions. While it's got that Michelin premium, roast meats are still one of the more affordable lunches around. Lunch sets are in the HKD $70s and include a roast meat rice/noodle, a side dish, and Cantonese soup/hot drink. I got a goose/char siu combo on rice flour noodles, pickled cucumber, and soup. The goose was as expected, great. It had a good balance of fat and meat. The skin wasn't crispy but it held up well enough given that I got a soup noodle. The meat had a great texture and having a bite with both skin/meat was absolutely fantastic. However, my biggest surprise would be the char siu. It was incredibly tender and flavourful in a natural, meaty way. I asked if I could have a bit more of the charred parts but sadly they could not make this happen. Otherwise, it would've been perfect. The Michelin Star system is a bit weird to me so I don't know how places are voted in. Don't come here expecting a 5 star dining experience. This is your typical, packed, fast-paced, HK roast meat joint (but a bit nicer to appease the tourists). So, don't be that guy sitting around for an hour, calling relatives at home (this happened). Waiting in line for 20 mins or more would not be wise. Food was good, but not out of this world. So is this place worthy of a Michelin? Maybe, maybe not. Worthy of a repeat lunchtime customer? Definitely. (61/100) - 2017

Yelp
Awesome goose noodles at this place, but it's not worth more than 15 minutes wait. I came here alone, so I was seated after 10 minutes or so. I got the roast goose noodle (lai noodle) -- they ran out of goose leg by the time I was there (around 3pm). The noodle was all right. Some of them were still sticking together and broken, i.e. they were not complete long pieces. The goose was nicely done with crunchy skin, but too much fat on some pieces. Tl;Dr awesome goose but not worth waiting at all. You can easily get equally good goose at other places in Hong Kong.

Yelp
The reviews were right... I was out there waiting for about 1.5 hours. When you get there, make sure to go in and get a ticket so you reserve a goose. When I went, they did not have the option of ordering a plate so we had to order a la carte. My friend and I ordered half a goose and bbq pork (cha siu) which was about 390 HKD. The goose was meaty and some of the skin was crispy. The sweet sauce that was paired complimented the goose as well. The bbq pork however was tough and not on par with other places we went to in Hong Kong. I guess their Michelin star is only for the goose so you could come here for a snack before eating elsewhere. *This is also one of the few places that accepts credit card even though the bill says no credit card*

Yelp
This meal was delicious! With 4 people we ordered 1/2 goose 1/2 chicken dish, 4 rice bowls, roasted vegetables and $545HKD and it was definitely enough. As a Michelin-star rated restaurant we expected a line, However it took only around 25minutes (Sunday night), and the service was very fast. The speed at which the food was given was also fast- within 10 minutes of ordering we had all our dishes.

Yelp
I had attempted to get dinner here around 730PM without doing prior research only to find out they had ran out of roast goose for the day; apparently it's a common occurrence. I went here on a Monday for lunch and the line was over 40 people deep, which would have been close to 2 hours' wait. I was about to leave but realized they offer take outs. My friend and I ordered takeout to eat at a nearby park. I decided to splurge and get the roast goose and suckling pig over rice combo, which was about $11.50 usd. My friend got the bbq pork and soya chicken combo which was $6.10 usd. Prices for both are on the higher end as portion was small. The meats were definitely delicious. I had enjoyed the suckling pig and soya chicken a bit more than the roast goose. Roast goose is like a fattier roast duck; great, but after a few pieces, you can feel your arteries clogging. Everything was marinated and cooked really well, even the rice had a bit of seasoning in it. I recommend to grab it for take out rather than stand in line. The restaurant does not have that much seatings, this wait time would be long.

Yelp
This place totally deserves its Michelin rating! I came by here 20 minutes before they opened so I just ended up walking around town. I got back about 10 min after opening and it was already a packed house. Hostess found me a seat at their communal tables, and I ordered a roast goose/suckling pig combo and an iced milk tea. food came out in a minute or so. Meat was perfectly tender; skin nice and crisp on both the goose and the pork. Hostess + waitstaff was super nice, and kitchen staff was speedy and on point! 5 stars all around. I'm staying a few blocks from here in Wan Chai and I'll probably be back before I leave town!

Yelp
I arrived in Hong Kong in late November, the time when many Americans choose to celebrate Thanksgiving. It was with this mindset that I decided I wanted to try roast goose while in HK. Not only did I want to try roast goose, I wanted to make sure I had the BEST roast goose Hong Kong had to offer. So, obviously I had to eat multiple geese from multiple shops. Let's start with Kam's. Kam's was recommended to me by a friend as well as the handy dandy Michelin Guide. Located in Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island, Kam's Roast Goose boasts one Michelin star. While they offer more than just goose, it's obviously the specialty of the restaurant so you'll have to get there on the early side to ensure you don't miss out. It had just rained and there was still a bit of a drizzle. Despite this, there was still a line out the door when we arrived. I noticed a small sign saying I needed to go into the restaurant to place an order, so I had my friends hold a place in line as I made my way into the shop, determined to nab a juicy goose. Once I got inside, they quickly told me all of the whole goose was gone, so I would have to settle for a half. We had a party of three so I was a bit nervous about this but we didn't have a choice. I headed back outside into the cold and saw that the line had gotten even longer, but the people behind us were quickly shooed away by the staff who said we had gotten the last goose. Victory! The line moved fast and we were soon inside. We sat at around table which we had to share with others and even though we had already ordered, we were handed menus in case we wanted not goose. I knew I had to stay focus on the main goal so I asked for a side of rice and called it a day. Less than 10 minutes later, the goose came. Juicy, fatty, glistening under the restaurant lights... My mouth started watering as soon as I saw it. I wondered if the goose would taste similar to duck and if the skin would be crispy. I wondered if the fat would melt in my mouth or need to be pulled off. I wondered, I wondered, and then I ate. I have to say, Kam's Roast Goose was the best goose ... ever. The juices dripped down my chin, the fat melted in my mouth, the skin had a slight crisp to it. The flavor was everything I imagined a holiday goose might taste like. The word "plump" entered my head as I indulged in another piece. I used the rice to soak up the extra juices because I didn't want a single drop wasted. I was hungry for more but the dish was so heavy I felt content. Half a goose was just enough for the three of us. We probably could have gone for a whole one, but we would have definitely felt guilty after. Kam's Roast Goose is a must-have for anyone visiting Hong Kong. It's cheap, it's recognized, and it's delicious. TOTAL COST: $280HKD ($36 USD) I paid $12 USD since there were three of us Cash or Octopus Card only 226 Hennessy Road Wan Chai Hong Kong

Yelp
Hands down the best roast goose and suckling pig in town! No wonder why there's always a line no matter what time of day you go. The ticketing system used by the manager is efficient and I even witnessed someone who traded tickets with another person to get in first, but the manager was very alert and caught it in time to prevent unfairness to other customers waiting in line. The restaurant is small and seating is pretty cramped. Chances are you will be sitting with strangers but if you have an even number of people in your party you will likely score a table to yourself. The aroma of the roasted meat fills the air and watching other customers receive their deliciously prepared plates before yours makes your mouth water. I had the pleasure of trying the crispy roasted pork, suckling pig, and roast goose. The suckling pig was excellent with juicy and succulent flesh and crispy skin. The crispy roasted pork also delivered but nothing compares to the suckling pig in terms of texture and taste. Lastly, the roasted goose is intensely meaty and flavorful. Even without the side sweet and sour sauce, the goose is a star. Service is super quick because number one- they are truly efficient and number two- this Michelin starred restaurant is rightfully busy. While this isn't a place to take your sweet time and talk about your life story, you'll appreciate the well executed Chinese barbecue as its sophistication pairs with the simple white rice on a plate.

Yelp
We swung in on a weekend and the line was hella long so we just passed through. We swung by randomly on a week day and no line! Guess we will have a late lunch lol. They have seating within their restaurant or you can get it to go, if your group wants to sit in the cafeteria section. This was convenient as our group split up on what they wanted to order. As for the food, we ordered the half duck (dark meat), and the crispy pork with soup. Both orders were really moist and had great flavor and texture. Soup broth was light and paired nicely with the noodles and meat. This was a nice pit stop, the hardest part wasn't even related to the restaurant, but with trying to find a spot in the cafeteria to sit at. People were mad aggressive, hovering and pouncing on spots the second people started to stand up.

Yelp
Decided to try out this place after hearing the hype and its Michelin star status. For a Michelin starred restaurant, the prices are reasonable and the portions are huge. Be prepared to wait a while. We waited outside for about 1.5 hours. When you get there, go straight to the counter and ask for a number. There's a lady who manages the waitlist cue and will call our your number when it's time to be seated. The space inside is quite small, which is common for Hong Kong. You get whatever seats are available when you walk in, so you could end up in a large table with others outside of your party. We came here in the mid-afternoon and unfortunately, they sold out of the roast and rice combo. So we opted for a 1/2 roast goose, BBQ pork belly and a side of poached green veggies. The roast goose was very juicy and flavorful. Keep in mind that goose is very fatty. The pork belly was also delicious and flavorful. Perfect alternative to the goose. Service is efficient and quick. Have your order ready before you sit down.

Yelp
Kam's has been on my list of places to visit and I'm glad I finally got the chance to eat here. I came here on a Friday night and it was quite packed at 7:00PM with a line out the door. The wait was about 30 minutes before we got to sit down, the host asked everybody in line what they wanted to order as they were running low on roast goose. The hype is certainly real at Kam's given it's one of the two Michelin star restaurants known for it's roast goose (other one being Yat Lok). Riding on the hype train, I did not hesitate to order one-half of a roast goose, char siu, and suckling pig. Result? Unfortunately, I think Kam's is overhyped. The roast goose was very standard and average, nothing to write home about. The meat was even slightly overcooked and dry. In conclusion, Kam's does not have anything on Yat Lok in this battle of the gooses.

Yelp
BE PREPARED TO WAIT. There were about 10-15 parties ahead of us and we waited for about 1.75-2 hours. We placed our order for our roast goose when we got our number to queue. Our ticket also said all roasts with rice or noodles were sold out, which I thought was weird because you can order rice or noodles on the side. How can they be sold out? But anyways, THE ROAST GOOSE WAS DELICIOUS! We got two orders of rice to share and an order of BBQ pork. It was thick cuts lathered in some sort of honey. The guys in my group all loved it but I honestly like the roast goose better. Would definitely love to come back if I'm ever back in Hong Kong.

Yelp
This was my first Michelin Star (1 star) restaurant in general and it was amazing. We waited about 20 minutes (5 people). We ordered Roast Goose and Pork (cha siu) which was amazing. Also everything added up to about HK$630 which is about $85, which is a pretty good price for this quality meal!

Yelp
Omg super delicious! We waited on line for 1 hour on a Sunday and it was totally worth it. Remember to get a number from the host once you arrive because many people just see a long line and queue up. You need a number. Goose was warm, fresh and delicious. We had to order a second order bc it was so good. The char siu was amazing as well. Totally worth the wait!

Yelp
Worth the wait. Upgrade to the roast goose leg. Excellent suckling pig and char siu pork. Cash only.

Yelp
Oh. my. gawd. lawrd. have. mercy. give. to. me. It is really a shame that ducks are so cute, because they are also really, really tasty. I don't know who Kam is, but his goose is boss. Even though I am not typically a fan of squatting on a Hong Kong side walk in June ( aka the surface of the sun) for an hour+, I would do this again, and again, until I burn to a crisp. Maybe I too can become as crispy and delicious as one of Kam's birds.

Yelp
This is worth the line-up if you want to try some really delicious roast goose. The line is long but good things come to those who wait. It's also a tight space in there so don't be surprised if you are sitting shoulder to shoulder with other people while enjoying your time there. Between my YEA and I, we ate a half a goose which comes with two bowls of rice, plum sauce, and a side of pickled cucumbers to cleanse the palette. The roast goose itself had really crispy skin while the meat itself was juicy and tender. They smothered it in the jus of the goose and there were both white and dark meat pieces. It's a lot for just two people but you really get the full experience and it's also the alternative if they run out of the really popular quarter goose combo special. It felt very gluttonous and oh so right!

Yelp
We came at 1130 on a weekday and the restaurant was already full. Make sure to grab a number cause that's the only thing that matters for getting in. We waited about 30 minutes until we were seated. They have a lunch special with duck, but I would recommend ordering the duck alone cause you get more duck for the buck. We ordered a half duck for 5 people. Best duck ever! The dark meat was the juiciest and tender and can't recommend it enough. The white meat is still pretty good. It was quite oily, but really delicious. Worth the wait. Come early so they don't sell out.

Yelp
Food: 4.0/5.0 Service: 2.5/5.0 Value: 3.0/5.0 Decor: 3.0/5.0 Overall: 4.0/5.0 This place was honestly a bit of a letdown. Didn't think the goose was really all that good, but absolutely did love the crispy pork. You can bypass the long line if you order takeout, which also still takes a bit of a wait (but not nearly that long). They do run out of food towards the latter half of the day.

Yelp
Alright, this spot definitely lives up to its name. Highly suggest to order take-out/to-go so you don't have to wait in line to eat there. We ordered a roasted goose on rice with roasted pork - there was one piece of veggie too. The roasted pork was crispy and tasty along with the deliciously flavored goose with lots of meat. The sauce that flavored the rice was also super tasty too. I will be back for more :p

Yelp
Although we (a party of 4) needed to wait for 30 minutes before sitting down, the delicious food was worth waiting. Service is quick and I guess this is typical HK style.

Yelp
On the search for roast goose, isn't it always that when travelling to Hong Kong. So many places, and unless you live there, so little time to only pick a handful of places to try the elusive (only for us Canadian's) meat! I was told of this place from one of my travel mates, and oddly enough I would run into this name again on a list provided from a friend in China, and the real key was that my AirBnB location was really not too far from this joint made it a no-brainer. I came in looking for a quick bite as my friend had to get all of his stuff and catch a plane, once we walked in I can tell you is that this place is no dump. I was expecting a cramped, easy fold up stool like seating with small tables, not something with glaring air conditioning coming down at you while you chill out and order, nice booths and tables, bright white lights so you can see the food clearly with your eyes and camera. In Hong Kong they do not waste time and luckily for us there was a table for two tucked near the back and right away they gave us menu's. I was determined to try their version of roast goose, and so I ordered, that... and roast pork but I was denied once again, where it seems like their suckling pig was sold out.... at 3:30 PM on a Tuesday??? this must be some good piggy (oink oink!) So no matter... roast goose on rice it was... and how funny they had these little markings in red beside certain dishes to signify 'Kam's' signature picks... I put in the order and the wait begins. When you do eventually get here, they do not shy away that they are a 1 Michelin Star restaurant, with the tire boy and his thumbs up, and stating they are a clear 2015 choice for the guide, right up to the menu, and the paper table mats presented in front of you, just so you remember and provide some placebo effect that you are getting premium stuff! On to the roasted fowl coming to my table, nicely chopped up and laid out on the rice, this plate seemed to ever glow from the bright white HID's from above make the roasted browned skin glisten for any camera to take. Served with two strands of gai-lan on the side as your green portions, this little plate with the white rice didn't look like much, till I sunk my teeth into it. The lean goose meat, and the nice, almost falling off the body roasted skin, each bite was great, with a hint of smokiness, for me this would be my no.2 behind my favorite place, but definitely I would come back, especially if in the area for goose. I wish I could try their suckling pig, but I guess there always is a reason on coming back... and I will definitely need to! If you are looking for the small eat, but do not like the 'hole in the wall' feel, this is really the place for you, looks newly renovated, seats are comfortable, prices are reasonable, service is fast, and they have a ton of roast meats.. just get here early so they don't run out! They also serve a variety of things.. I just was in need of rice.. after a week without it!

Yelp
Yo I was by myself and still had to wait in line for at least an hour! It was well worth the wait. I do not eat a lot of goose or duck in generally simply because of how oily and fatty it can be. Therefore, I shot for the "white" meat port of the goose along with some rice. Let's just say I was not disappointed. The goose was indeed oily and greasy, but it was like butter with my rice! With a hint of sweetness and texture of the skin, this goose was cooked to perfection. With no pun intended, I gobbled my up with less than 15 minutes. Matter of fact, I don't remember that wait in line haha!

Yelp
This is more of a 3.5. They didn't have 1/4 roast goose for takeout, only half for $280 HKD which is quite expensive/much for two people. It's supposed to be the best and when in Rome... I decided to splurge. While the meat and skin is good, I'm not sure if I prefer it over roast duck.
