"There’s one word that comes to mind when we think of Kindling, and that is ‘delightful’. This place is an excellent shout if you’re looking for somewhere to have a fancy lunch, a foliage-filled Brighton date, or to eat a Saddlescombe mutton burger that will have you cursing every sad Big Mac you’ve allowed to touch your brioche-loving lips. It's a light and airy modern European small plates restaurant near the seafront run by an ex- chef, and as you might expect with this kind of heritage, it's all about quality produce. Though the menu changes regularly, you can expect dishes like smoked tomato salad, exceptional seafood, and tarted-up vegetables complete with crispy chickpeas. See, delightful. "There’s one word that comes to mind when we think of Kindling, and that is ‘delightful’. It’s a light and airy modern European small plates restaurant near the seafront run by an ex-St. John chef, and as you might predict with this kind of heritage, it’s all about quality produce. The menu changes daily, but you can expect dishes like smoked tomato salad, exceptional seafood, and tarted-up vegetables complete with crispy chickpeas. Come evening, you can only order the £80 tasting menu, but if you’re looking to kick it à la carte, Kindling is prime territory for a fancy lunch. It’s also excellent for a foliage-filled date involving sweet nothings over their signature homemade ketchup. See, delightful. " - Heidi Lauth Beasley

"The strapline of this understated modern restaurant is ‘food that is kind to the environment and good for the soul’, and their focus is firmly on using local suppliers and minimising waste. A lovely freshness runs throughout the assured, detailed dishes, which arrive with eye-catching presentation. The charcoal grill is at the heart of things and used to great effect across both the lunchtime small plates and evening tasting menus." - Michelin Inspector

The best steak I have ever had in a restaurant. Knew what medium well actually was. We had two starters, a sirloin and rib eye with three sides, more than enough food. Pudding big enough to share. Great simple and tasty menu, service was excellent and the atmosphere was super chilled. Highly recommend and defo going back. Thank you Kindling Team ❤️

Came here on a Sunday after hearing great things about the Roast and it surpassed all expectations, all of the starters were delicious and the roast was the best I’ve had, great portion sizes too. We couldn’t choose between the desserts so ordered them all and they were definitely worth it. Cocktails were delicious too, highly recommend the mango daiquiri. Will be returning and look forward to trying their other dishes

Beautiful setting in the heart of Brighton with a nicely curated menu. The steak was delicious, potentially a tad overcooked, however good flavour. The accompanying chimichurri sauce was a brilliant addition to it. They serve roast dinner on Sunday and Monday, which looks absolutely delicious. All in all, it was a great experience and perfect place for an intimate dinner. The price of dishes is also not exorbitant, which makes it quite appealing. Will love to go back soon to try different cuts of beef.

Had such a lovely dinner experience at kindling They had a roast for 2 on the menu (Sunday and Monday only) so we went for it and oh wow. Incredible steak. Absolutely delicious gravy too. Definitely recommend the lemon posset as well. Really everything was amazing but these definitely stood out. Would Def go again

Cannot recommend this place enough. 10/10 for vibes, food and service! We went for the cote de boeuf to share and the sauces were amazing - we had chimichurri and pepper corn. Definitely worth a visit, they book up very far in advance so definitely be prepared. Thankyou!

We had the beef sharing roast between us. The beef was cooked to (our) perfection and came with a good selection roasted vegetables. (And the mince pie ice-cream is unbelievably good)

The food was absolutely beautiful. First time ever a steak has come back to me perfect medium well without it sending it back a chef certainly knows what he’s doing. The service was excellent next time I’m visiting down there. I most certainly will come back in.

After all the hype thought we would try here for lunch , after a 40 min wait for our basic steak and chips , sadly the steak wasn’t great , very chewy and gristly, plates not hot and poor service. The dogs were pleased with what we left !
