"Draw back a heavy curtain at the back of Bubbledogs, behind the tables of PR girls getting shitfaced on champagne, and you’ll enter one of the most unique dining experiences in London. This is the Kitchen Table, and it’s a swish counter-only restaurant in which you sit around an open kitchen of chefs cooking interesting, fine dining dishes. It’s pretty much the opposite of hot dogs. Kitchen Table only does one 12-course tasting menu, and many of the courses have a strong European influence with lots of cutting-edge chef whizz-bangery on display – it’s like going to the theatre for anyone who’s addicted to MasterChef: The Professionals or Great British Menu. Even though everything’s about the food, the atmosphere is still relaxed, especially compared to other fine dining restaurants. The chefs regularly come over to chat about each dish, or the latest episode of Game of Thrones. They’re serious about what they do, but they don’t take themselves too seriously. Is it expensive? Yeah, of course it is. But for a special occasion, it’s definitely worth the bother – so long as you can secure a booking." - David Paw
"Every now and again it’s okay to be a bit pretentious and that’s what somewhere like Kitchen Table is for. It’s a chef’s table setup, so the poor guys and girls are sort of performing in front of you - a micro herb delicately placed with tweezers here, a series of intricately placed blobs there. It is very entertaining and the food is really very very good. All you have to do is nod to their ‘food philosophy’ and try not to eat every plate in one mouthful. This sort of thing is a laugh every now and then. It’s a riot when it’s for free." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing
"The creation of chef James Knappett and his wife Sandia Chang, Bubbledogs is the catchy name that tells it how it is - an establishment of champagne and hot dogs. 30-odd champagnes in fact and a wide selection of dogs. A warm, industrial interior of bare brick and reclaimed fittings - though notably the copper topped bar is the central feature. More of a champagne bar than a restaurant, drop in for lunch or join the almost constant, but quick moving, evening queue." - UsVs
"Five hours might seem like a long time for dinner, but you'll be glad you came after around 20 superb servings from James Knappett's creative surprise menu. You’ll start in the lounge with drinks and accomplished canapés that set the tone for the evening, before being guided to your seat at the beautiful kitchen counter – where you can watch the chefs finish dishes close-up. Outstanding British produce is at the heart of the experience, with the seafood often proving a highlight, whether it's soft and smoky eel or fresh squid enhanced by a creamy lobster sauce." - Michelin Inspector
"James Knappett and Sandia Chang’s 15-cover Kitchen Table has two stars." - Eater Staff
