The Best Sushi Restaurants in Los Angeles, According to Eater Editors

"With Kogane, chef Fumio Azumi brings a destination-worthy sushi place to Alhambra. Co-opening chef Kwan has moved on to another sushi project in Ohio, making Azumi the lone chef behind the counter. The restaurant serves a $300 per person dinnertime omakase and a more reasonable $120 weekday lunch. Quality is top-tier, with two kinds of rice and the freshest fish available." - Matthew Kang

Brooklyn Heights’ 13 Go-To Restaurants and Bars

"This cozy, affordable ramen spot, awash in wood walls and live-edge slab tables, serves up a satisfying bowl of tonkotsu-based noodles. The curry-based Parco version is a solid choice for deviating a bit from the shoyu- or miso-centric selections that dominate the genre in New York. There’s a handful of spicy and seafood-oriented bowls, too, and many ramen options are drizzled with black garlic oil, which is a nice touch. Skip the bland ramen burger; the broiled miso eggplant and crisp gyoza are are better bets." - Alexandra Ilyashov

Google
Nice ramen shop in the area, 2nd location with first locate on 14 & 8th? Much more traditional and better than the branch of michelin rated ramen shop closer to dumbo that closed down. Trypical menu selection got Takoyaki and Tonkotsu. Pleasant wait staff and cozy place, nice spot to grab a bite after hanging out at brooklyn bridge piers.

Google
Delicious food and very attentive service. Very cool atmosphere inside, very kind server was very helpful. Ramen was very flavorful and delicious. Will definitely stop back in again next time I am in town!

Google
In a cute but restaurant-light neighborhood, where most local options are brunch-heavy or bakeries, Kogane is a gem. Small spot, adorned by wood walls and benches, super close to subway, with great food and service. Seaweed salad & Spicy Miso Ramen were both great and staff was attentive. Menu has a ton of options (from ramen to kid-friendly favorites like fries & wings), including many beers & sakes. High chairs available for the little ones. Priced for enjoyment without regret. Will definitely be back!

Google
Really good ramen! It’s slightly too fatty and oily but a solid 8/10. The fried chicken was a bit disappointing, size of the meat wasn’t at a good ratio. The eggplant was really good, nice miso dressing. The Spider Crab Buns was a nice surprise, good crunch to go with the soft bun. Overall, solid!

Google
While this location is more accessible compared to the Manhattan location it's smaller. The White Truffle Ramen had good noodles but I was expecting a more potent truffle flavor. Overall it's still a nice place to get ramen.

Google
Nice and cozy neighborhood ramen that delivers bold and big flavors. The spicy miso broth definitely hits the perfect comfort spot on a cold rainy day.

Google
This place was amazing. We ordered the vegetable dumplings and some ramen. I got the Shoyu Ramen and my husband had the Yaki Ramen. The Yaki Ramen was very tasty. The portions are great in size. The atmosphere was very laid back. Will definitely come back again.

Google
Saw this spot while walking down to the waterfront. Looked like a nice, quiet, and comfy spot to have a bowl of ramen on a chilly day. So glad I came. I got the Truffle Ramen based on a recommendation from the host. I also ordered Karagge. The ramen hit the spot. The broth was creamy, the chicken was soft, and the noodles were firm. The Karagge was piping hot. Definitely recommend if you’re in the mood for something that will warm you from the inside out!

Yelp
I recommend spicy veggie ramen and small plates are good. The restaurant is cozy The service is good

Yelp
Kogane is a quaint and cozy ramen spot in Brooklyn Heights. The ramen is great at reasonable prices and you get a view of the bridge as a bonus. I came for a weekday lunch with a friend and we were seated immediately. Service is friendly. My friend and I shared the takoyaki which was pretty good. For mains, my friend and I enjoyed our Parco Pork and Vegetable Ramen respectively. The Parco Pork curry broth isn't super thick but still pretty flavorful. Portions were average sized. Overall, I would come back and try the red tonkotsu that the waitress recommended. Nothing beats a tasty, hearty meal with a view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges.

Yelp
We ordered yuzu ramen which tasted weird like a whole lemon was added in without tasting much of the tonkotsu broth. Very disappointing experience compared to authentic yuzu ramen places I've tried. Eggplant was too sweet as well. For the price could have been better.

Yelp
Four stars because this place has been a neighborhood gem for years. The ramen is rich and flavorful without making you regret your life choices (not too spicy). Service? It's decent, but you're really here for the deep, comforting bowls of broth that make even my picky parents say, 'Not bad" as they slurp it down. Perfect for those cold evenings when you need a warm hug in noodle form.

Yelp
Favorite ramen spot in NY. Absolutely never a miss with the spicy miso ramen. They have just so many great options to choose from. It's a hole in the wall type of spot but honestly it was really just for a Sunday evening! They are pretty great with their service despite the crowd and I left super happy and warm after my good bites.
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot in this area! the mackerel was flavored well and had a good crispy skin on it. The ramen was the perfect amount of spice but may be a bit smaller in portions, which was great for me (I usually don't finish my ramen but this one I was able to). Shop is small and cozy, great vibes. Service was pretty quick too!

Yelp
Kogane is one of the best ramen options around this part of Brooklyn, and I say this knowing Tsuta and Mr. Taka are further down in Dumbo. I've been to their Chelsea location before as well, but I quite enjoy the neighborly feel of this Brooklyn Heights location. There is outdoor seating available, but the cozy tables inside exude a nice zen ambiance when you visit during their off-peak hours. My usual order is their tonkotsu ramen ($17) or their spicy miso ramen ($18). I think both bowls are very solid, classic options that you can't go wrong with. The portions are quite generous and while they do offer kaedama ($4.50) which is extra noodles if you have leftover broth, I have never needed it. The staff here are super friendly and they also take Apple Pay!

Yelp
I was feeling noodle soup, so found Kogane Ramen on a Monday night. It was a chilly night, but the heater was way too strong for us inside the restaurant. Luckily, they have an outdoor patio where we sat instead. This was perfect as you really warm up with the hot ramen. We started off with a Hot Sake ($11) and a Sapporo Draft ($7). For the ramen, I got the Miso Lobster Ramen ($22) because how often do you get lobster in your ramen? The price is pretty reasonable as well for lobster. They even bring you a claw cracker to help you, but it wasn't really needed. When the bowl arrived, it seemed like a small bowl; but it's actually a lot. The bowl is deep, which made it deceiving. Such a well-rounded bowl of ramen from depth of broth to variety of toppings and tender chashu. Glad to have this in the neighborhood whenever I have a ramen craving.

Yelp
Kogane is a cozy hidden gem of a ramen restaurant. The wait time was less than 10 minutes and the food came quick as well. We opted first for pork buns which came in soft pillowy buns with flavorful seared pork. Our mains were the Red Tonkotsu Ramen and the Parco Chicken Ramen which did not disappoint! The noodles were freshly made and perfectly chewy and the broth was flavorful and hearty. They were both topped with bamboo and a soft boiled egg. This was a chance finding for us in Brooklyn, but we are so glad we stumbled upon it!
google avatar

Yelp
Consistently good ramen at Kogane! The broths are always so rich and delicious, and they don't skimp on ingredients with each serving. Noodles are sometimes a touch undercooked in my opinion, but not in a way that radically detracts from the meal. This is a great neighborhood spot, and one I think worth a visit if you're in Brooklyn Heights or DUMBO and want good ramen at a decent price!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by here with a couple of friends after checking out the nearby Nintendo event at Brooklyn Bridge Park! We walked in for a table of 4 around 7pm on a Sunday night and didn't have to wait at all. It wasn't my first time visiting but I don't think I've ever had to wait more than a few minutes for a table which is always a plus. I mean, who really has the patience? Their appetiser never falls short of delectable! My friends ordered the Brussels sprout, fries, and takoyaki to start off. For my main course, I got the Red Tonkotsu ramen to satisfy my love for spicy food.

Yelp
Hey this place made me start giving reviews after 2/3 long years on yelp- Food here is amazinggggggg!!! Loved their Ramen but the best thing was their Ramen Burger- Service was quick and pleasent- a MUST go place in Brooklyn heights! Also Prices were sooooo reasonable.
google avatar

Yelp
Post COVID glad to see that they're doing well and have additional seating outdoor as their shop is rather small. I got their Spicy Miso Ramen ($18) and it is just as good as I remembered. I also got the Herb Sweet Potato Fries ($7), the highlight being their Yuzu Mayo dipping sauce. The sauce I have to say was a bit overpowering with the Yuzu flavoring and they need to take it easy on that. Also if you're a big credit card points person, this place is classified as a grocery store for some reason and not a restaurant. Tried calling my credit card company and they won't change it.

Yelp
Gr8 food gr8 service.... What a lovely quaint spot. We were lucky to stumble upon it...

Yelp
Most noticeably amazing quality of this restaurant is the cleanliness and well put-together lighting and decor. Went to Kogane on my first trip to NYC and had to come back for more yuzu and chicken skewers. Service is fast and the servers are clean, attentive, and add a nice air to the place.
google avatar

Sally M.

Yelp
10/10! Food is delicious and has a cozy atmosphere with modern tables and benches. Highly recommend the miso eggplant (sweet/savory), spider buns (soft/crunch) and sweet potato fries - sauce is the BOSS! the yuzu ramen is my favorite with a citrusy-pine flavor.
google avatar

Toni B.

Yelp
This is the best ramen restaurant in Brooklyn. The service is great, and every dish has the right amount of spice and/or seasoning. I have to restrain myself from eating here more than once a week.

Amber H.

Yelp
We've been here a few times and the food is always delicious! Cozy ambiance for a date night! Highly recommend the Takoyaki and Tonkatsu Ramen.
google avatar

Kira W.

Yelp
I ate here yesterday and the ramen was so good that I came back here again tonight I got the vegetable ramen!

Joe S.

Yelp
We had the sweet potato fries, shoyu ramen and spicy vegetable ramen. Food was good and tasted fresh. Food was brought out promptly. Staff was friendly!

Yelp
I stumbled upon Kogane on a dark, stormy night (well maybe not exactly one of those nights, though I was certainly starving and everything around me felt dark and stormy), and decided to give it a chance. I immediately took to the menu because of the ramen options (and enough pork-, chicken-, and veggie-based broth options to satisfy even the pickiest broth drinkers), but was more so delighted to find that there was a matcha ramen! I was feeling adventurous so I went for it, and 20 years later, we are now married...haha well maybe one day -- if it were only that simple! I have been back more than a handful of times to drink my matcha broth and slurp down my matcha ramen (the takoyaki is also mouthwatering!), and will continue enjoying my doting affairs with Kogane.

Flanagan B.

Yelp
Food was amazing! Definitely recommend for a cozy sit down meal :) loved the ambiance and great service!

Yelp
Kogane is a restaurant chain that serves delicious ramen. We visited their Brooklyn heights branch for Sunday lunch. Although they have outdoor seating we chose to seat inside as we already felt safe to do so. We got straight to business once seated. I chose Red Tonkatsu Ramen; a pork bone-based broth with red chili paste, braised pork belly, and boiled egg while my partner selected the nonspicy version of Tonkatsu ramen. We both enjoyed our ramen here and we found the serving very filling. Overall, if you are looking for hearty ramen this place is for you.
google avatar

M M.

Yelp
This ramen is something special. If you're wondering how the Brooklyn and Manhattan locations compare, Brooklyn is noticeably better. The tonkatsu and red tonkatsu broths are 10/10. The slices of pork were perfectly melt-in-your-mouth the first time we dined here, but firmer (like most other places) the second time. Noodles are also firm, but that's what we want! I got the lobster ramen this time and would give that a 7/10. I liked the addition of lobster pieces which were nicely poached, but the broth was a little sweet for me. As a noodle soup lover who doesn't prefer ramen, this one is my favorite of all I've tried in New York.
google avatar

Derek S.

Yelp
Brought my daughter here for the first time as she and I are the ramen lovers in the fam. We shared the pork tonkatsu and absolutely loved the noodles. They were fresh and flavorful. Best I've had in a ramen bowl. The broth was very good and hit the spot, but could have been a tad sweeter. Also would have loved to see a spicy option. The tea soaked egg was an umami sensation... we ordered extra egg. All in all it was a very cute, warm atmosphere with quick service and quality ramen. Will go back for sure.
google avatar

Rosa C.

Yelp
Solid neighborhood ramen with great service! We like the outdoor dining in the enclosed shed, which is less vibey than their indoor dining but feels a bit more spacious. The spicy miso and the spicy shoyu hit the spot on a cold night and the broth wasn't too salty. These broths aren't as rich as those at some of your more "famous" ramen shops, but the noodles were cooked perfectly and we appreciate having an excellent neighborhood option for when the cravings strike!
google avatar

Inna K.

Yelp
I'm so happy I found this casual spot with a great ramen menu! Will definitely come back and try another bowl of soup noodles. Service was great!

Misha B.

Yelp
Delicious ramen! The dumplings are so good and so is the spicy edamame. The service is always great. 10/10 highly recommend :)

Luis P.

Yelp
The ramen is always soooo delicious with such favorable broth . Always come here with my friends and recommend it to others

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday for lunch (~2 p.m.), and it was a pretty decent meal. Aside from 2 or 3 people including myself, the restaurant was empty, but it gives off a nice neighborhood-restaurant vibe. I ordered the red tonkotsu, and initially thought that the portion looked small, but the toppings that they give are pretty filling. The broth wasn't much to rave about - I found it more on the salty end and a little overpowered by the garlic oil. There was also virtually no spice, so I'd recommend asking for extra chili paste if you want more kick. The noodles were undercooked when I received the dish, and stayed chewy throughout the meal. Not sure if they're made to order, but was disappointed that they turned out this way. For the toppings, the menma tasted a bit off and the seaweed was soggy by the time I got the dish. On a positive note, the chasu was a great balance of flavor and tenderness, and the egg was great too! Would've loved to see a lunch special menu to try some of the side dishes they had, but overall it's a nice spot for a decent bowl!

Warner B.

Yelp
Great low key spot! Cozy atmosphere easy weeknight meal. Would recommend. Service was fast as well

Bryan Tan J.

Yelp
Good food and great service! Thoroughly enjoyed our ramen very much. Deserves a 5/5 rating

Yelp
The Service was quick and very attentive. The atmosphere was calm and clean ! The Katsu Curry is to die for !

William P.

Yelp
absolutely worth every penny and transportation expense. Can't wait to return. Thanks so much!

Emma M.

Yelp
Great ambiance! We were seated quickly. Ordered the ramen and gyoza. Ramen was really good.

Katherine B.

Yelp
The inside is the perfect vibe you want for a ramen restaurant. Warm, cozy, welcoming and down to earth The ramen is good and dependable There's only ~6 tables inside and ~8 outside so you may have to wait but they can seat you pretty quick! Reasonably priced. I liked the spicy miso ramen. Good sized servings. No issues!
google avatar

Hilda D.

Yelp
I went to the restaurant with my boyfriend yesterday (3/3/2024) and we loved it!!! We got the spicy buns (the buns were the freshest we ever had), Japanese karaage, pork gyoza (very succulent) and plum wine. My boyfriend throughly enjoyed the Ramen while I loved the kimichi fried rice with chicken. It's near public transportation and right near the Barclay Center, where we had an event to attend. The setting was great, the service was fast & friendly. Would I go back? Heck yea, I would!!!
google avatar

Ashley L.

Yelp
Great ramen spot near BK Bridge park!! This place surpasses mr Taka which is right near the park. I'm glad we took the 15 min walk to this gem bc it was worth it. Broth was rich and flavorful for our spicy tonkotsu ramen and I was able to add extra chili oil as needed. The spicy edamame was delicious!!! Could not stop eating it. The only things that were a bit disappointing was the pork in both the ramen and the pork buns we got. Nothing special and could definitely be improved upon. Overall service was great and I would return when I'm in the area again :)
google avatar

Regina X.

Yelp
Kogane is a reliable ramen restaurant with ample outdoor and indoor tables. Their outdoor area is also thoroughly shielded from any rain and wind. FOOD: - 4/5 Tonkatsu Ramen (Spicy option available) serves up flavorful broth and firm noodles. Pork was disappointing: too fatty, not enough char; but otherwise it's a hearty and satisfying bowl.
google avatar

Shirrell H.

Yelp
I dont recall ever being on this side of Brooklyn. It was chilly outside so I decided to take my son for some ramen. It was worth the walk. Even the service was good. Inside is small but they do have outdoor dining also. We both enjoyed our ramen. The chicken was well seasoned, hot and crispy just the way we like it. The gyoza was decent. I definitely want to check out the area again when it gets warmer.
google avatar

Honghui Y.

Yelp
Solid ramen served with a great neighborhood restaurant vibe. They have a decent selection of appetizers as well. We thoroughly enjoyed the blistered shishito peppers and sweet potato fries (served with yuzu aioli!). One note is that their spicy ramens aren't very spicy so are perfect if you want a little kick but can't stomach much heat.
google avatar

Minly L.

Yelp
I came with a friend after finding out one restaurant was not done in. But I'm quite pleased with the change in plans. My friend and I got an order of the Takoyaki, spicy Tonkatsu ramen, and the ramen burger. My friend who never had takoyaki before was surprised how tasty it was. I'm always super picky about my takoyaki but I really enjoyed it. The ramen was super delicious and came in a fairly big portion. Service was super attentive and I didn't have to wait to long.
google avatar

Whitney L.

Yelp
Delicious ramen in Brooklyn Heights. Fantastic service in a cozy space. We ordered the Ramen Burger, Brussel sprouts, and sweet potato fries. All were yum!! The stand out was definitely the ramen burger---probably the best I've had. Still drooling dreaming about it. Highly recommend for solo dining, couples and small groups.
google avatar

Yvonne D.

Yelp
Great staff - super helpful and patient which is useful when traveling with a baby and its starting to rain outside. The hot broth in the tonkatsu ramen was just what we needed as a pick-me-up. The appetizers were tasty too. Finish off the meal with a cup of warm tea mmm!
google avatar

Kieun L.

Yelp
A solid neighborhood ramen spot! My friend and I came for dinner on Friday night - around 5:30. Plenty of seats so we were seated right away. We each just got a bowl of ramen. I had the red tonkatsu - it was delicious. Broth was rich and had a nice heat to it. I especially loved the noodle texture. It was firm and perfectly cooked. Service was great - fast and attentive. I'll probably frequent this place- so glad there's good ramen near me!

Yelp
Can I even call this place a hidden gem , I mean all the seats were pretty filled . This was a split second last minute decision if that makes any sense lol, but it was the best decision ever made about Ramen. I arrived for dinner around 6pm ish , this place is very welcoming and warm, layered with dark toned natural wood and the amazing smell of spices & herbs, get ready to transcend your tastebuds. The host is the server is the food runner is the bust boy is the cashier. I mean they do it all with a polite smile and energy. The service was great . The spot is pretty small inside but they offer outdoor heated seating. The menu has the perfect amount of items on it but after one bite you'll want to order everything. Now one might say what's the point of ordering Ramen without broth (which I did because this is one of the few places that serves dry ramen) . I'll tell you why .... Because it's bomb! And somewhat nostalgic. As a kid dry ramen was definitely a struggle meal in my household. We'd boil the ramen pour off the water add chopped up hot dogs and some sliced processed Kraft cheese and mix dat bad boy up with the chicken or beef flavored packet Ooooh I'm salivating just thinking about it lol. Listen don't knock it until you try it. Anyway check out these pics and videos and then go experience the amazing flavors for yourself. Ordered : Gyoza Shishito peppers Dry ramen Seafood ramen

Yelp
Great late night visit. There was no wait. Inside is pretty small but cozy. There is also enclosed outdoor seating as well. Our server was really nice, and all the staff we interacted with. I ordered the red tonkotsu ramen, which was cry rich, spicy, and well flavored. Noodles are be al dente and toothy, but I liked it a lot. Came out piping hot and fast. My friend just ordered a bottle of the plum wine, which was really good and we were able to take the bottle with us as we didn't finish it all.
google avatar

Najwa G.

Yelp
Really nothing special. The broth was mediocre at best as was the meat but the noodles itself were pretty good- the right amount of firm. Wouldn't stop by to try the ramen but *possibly* to try to ramen burger, albeit I have a good feeling that that's quite overhyped.
google avatar

Shirley L.

Yelp
A great ramen location in Brooklyn Heights. They have indoor and outdoor dining since Covid. The service was great even being seated outdoor, the waiter and waitress consistently comes and check up on the tables. I like how they have a good section of appetizers and ramens. I usually get a Brussels sprouts is always made just right. The sweet potato fries and takoyaki is also not bad. My go to ramen is the Tonkotsu ramen, the soup base is flavorful yet not too salty. The noodles are slightly tours the firm side. Sometimes the braised pork belly can be overwhelming fatty. You can always choose to additional toppings bamboo shoot, noodles, soft boiled egg, pork for extra charge. They also have a small dessert menu!
