Kokoro Handroll Bar - Review - The Woodlands - Houston - The Infatuation

"The team behind Downtown food hall spot Kokoro and Autry Park newcomer Doko bring their sushi expertise to the Woodlands Waterway, with a focus on handrolls (obviously). Standouts on the menu include Thai chili–laced crudos and temaki packed with king salmon belly, A5 Wagyu, and uni. Unlike the Downtown original, there are no hot dishes like yakitori here, but it is the first time Kokoro will feature a full bar, with drinks like the cardamom- and honey-laced Doko G&T. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Brooke Viggiano

FINALLY, a high standard sushi place in north Houston. My husband and I finally left the city for suburban living with our kids and sushi quality was what we were missing. Just like their sister restaurants, this place hits the target! Amazing flavors, perfectly seasoned, and high quality fish. If you love real sushi, this is it! My only hope is we get more exotic fish in the future. Thanks to Ricardo and the personable sushi chefs for taking care of us and my mother-in-law for her birthday!

We LOVE Kokoro! They are truly the best in the area. Fresh fish, incredible drinks; everything is truly put together with so much thought and detail. All of the crudo's are spectacular and the hand rolls are all delicious. We get the 4 hand roll option from the menu and it hits every time. One of our favorite date night spots.

I had a wonderful solo visit while in The Woodlands for business. Everything was delicious - no soy sauce necessary! I splurged, starting with the Sunomno, then the Kampachi Crudo - which was, I think, my favorite, though it's a difficult call. After that, I had the 4 handroll set, and added caviar to the negitoro. I ended with a few bites of sushi: bluefin chutoro, hamachi, hotate, and A5 wagyu with caviar. Each bite was so well crafted. My always helpful and friendly waiter closed my meal with his favorite - saketoro aburi. I would be hard- pressed to pick a favorite, each was a unique and delicious bite. Not an inexpensive evening, lol, but worth every penny! I will be back when in town again.

Great experience from start to finish, nice atmosphere, and friendly and knowledgeable staff. I don't eat sushi but my partner loves it, and she said this was the best she's ever had. I had the A5 wagyu nigiri and it was probably the 2nd best wagyu I've ever had. Not cheap, but worth every penny. Will definitely be back.

By far the best sushi you'll find in the Woodlands. We've been big fans of many restaurants in this ownership group, and we were thrilled to have a location up north. The handrolls are amazing with extra crispy nori and perfect flavor combinations. The crudos are always a favorite go-to. You won't find better service or higher quality fish anywhere.

Such a cool spot! Loved everything about this place! We had a reservation and sat at the bar — watching them cook and prep was part of the magic. Everyone was super kind and explained each dish. Service was a 20/10. The food was incredible, and you must try the BGB Sake Aburi nigiri — unforgettable! Bonus: they even gave me a little duck as a gift! Loved it all.

Overall, it was a great meal. Still pretty new, but they've worked out a good amount and are already pretty efficient. Speed of service is good. The variable seemed to be how many other customers are in when you order. There was one chef rolling and about 10 customers sitting at the bar.. he was definitely juggling all the orders but did a good job keeping up.

We dined at Kokoro Handroll during Houston Restaurant Week. The service was great and we were in and out in under 40 minutes with a 4 course meal. Everything was incredibly fresh. The highlights were the Maguro Crudo, Sake Crudo, and Spicy Tuna Handroll. The A5 beef handroll was nothing special and in handroll form you lost the standout melt in your mouth experience of a5 beef. The lychee martini and best burb highball were both ok but not cocktails we would try again. Overall, it was a decent experience, but we decided it was poor value and the set meal actually was more expensive than purchasing the items individually.

Yelp
Outstanding sushi restaurant. Very high quality product. Simple menu with an emphasis on nigiri and sashimi. Note: they have hand rolls but no cut rolls. Crudos were a highlight. The space is clean and sophisticated. The sushi bar looks like a lot of fun. Great cocktails. Excellent addition to The Woodlands.

Yelp
Went for a second time and yum yum yum!! So good we couldn't help ourselves. The servers are all amazing.

Yelp
I've been to one of their sister locations, Aioko, with the iconic rubber duckies. This place did not disappoint. And I am so happy they opened a shop in the Woodlands area. The staff was incredibly attentive, making the experience all the more enjoyable. The quality of the fish was outstanding--each bite was fresh and full of flavor. My favorite dish was the BGB Saketoro Aburi Nigiri. You can truly taste the difference in the ingredients. The ambiance was warm and inviting, with a beautifully designed sushi bar at the center and cozy tables along the sides. I'd love to see an omakase menu in the future, but even without it, this place is a standout. I'll definitely be returning

Yelp
A fantastic addition to The Woodlands, Kokoro strikes the perfect balance between elevated dining and casual charm, making it a spot you'll want to revisit regularly. The crudos are outstanding, and the hand rolls are absolutely worth a special trip. Service is top-notch--we felt well taken care of from the moment we walked in until the check arrived. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just grabbing dinner on a weeknight, Kokoro is well worth a visit. An added benefit-- they were very accommodating for my friend who has a gluten allergy.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. The Woodlands has desperately needed a high quality sushi restaurant. Kokoro delivers at every aspect.

Yelp
Everything went well. The service was outstanding. Lots of attention making sure we were enjoying ourselves. I've travel to Japan too many times to count and lived in Hawaii for 19yrs were sashimi was sold in Safeway. I usually won't eat raw fish just any where. Kokoro was a utopian experience. The 4 of us had a party. Go for it. exquisite
