Kricket - Review - Brixton - London - The Infatuation

"You may have heard of Kricket, and you may even have heard it being called the next big thing. Though it’ll do if you absolutely need to satisfy a craving for spice in the area, it definitely isn’t the next big thing. This is one of the sit-down restaurants located in a shipping container upstairs at Pop Brixton, the boxpark full of food stalls and bars, and here they serve Indian small plates with a twist. Think Keralan fried chicken with a light batter of chickpea flour, or samphire pakoras. While the food is perfectly pleasant, we’ve found it under-spiced and underwhelming. In our opinion, it’s just not the destination-worthy spot people might tell you it is: there’s better modern Indian around town, and better food in Brixton in general." - David Paw

What Are the Best Restaurants to Visit in London this Weekend? | Eater London

"A permanent outpost of the award‑winning Indian small‑plates concept with a short, intensely flavoured menu that invites sharing: must‑orders include Keralan fried chicken with mooli pickle and curry leaf mayo and lighter dishes like raw bavette with mango and nigella. The food maintains the punchy, inventive profile of the Soho site and also serves memorable Sunday roasts with Indian twists such as Goan roast pork." - Jonathan Nunn

I had such high expectations for this place. The menu looked amazing and so we thought we'd make a night of it. The wine was nice, along with the atmosphere, however things soon fell down with timings. My partners starter came a lot longer before mine (this wasn't outlined beforehand) and when we asked about it (three times), it finally came but it was cold. The mains then came out and the rice was clumpy and cold so we asked for another one. The flavours were nice. I especially loved the paratha, however, we were quite disappointed by this point. A waiter asked what we thought and we were honest, but he didnt really know how to deal with that information and just left it. When we asked for the bill, they had mis-charged us a drink so I said to my partner to say something to someone to the side. They removed the service and brought over some Coconut desserts, but overall, it was a real shame it didn't hit right.

Food was very good. The apple Puri were excellent. I had the venison curry which was very tasty. They add a 15% service charge to the bill. There is absolutely nothing in the service they provide that would justify the standard % used in all other restaurants that is 12.5%. They also charge you for filtered tab water.

Went there for dinner on Saturday after having heard a lot about this place. The menu was interesting, with a nice twist on Indian classics (e.g., samphire pakora). We got the beetroot dhokla, samphire pakora, the duck leg seekh kebab, and the lamb biryani. We were debating getting the Karnakatan Pork Neck, but they suggested it would be too much. The beetroot dhokla was a bit cold and lacked flavor. The pakoras were probably our favorite, crispy, a lot of umami, and an interesting twist. The biryani was well prepared, but there was barely any lamb in it. That said, we mentioned that to one of the waiters, without expecting anything really. The were very apologetic, and immediately got us the Karnakatan Pork Neck, on the house. That was tasty, if a bit too salty. Service was very friendly, fast, and attentive. And like I said, I don't think they could have handled our complaint any better. I would love to go back there if only for the service.

Super flavourful & yum! Loved the Bhel Puri & Venison Laal mass. The pani puri (not pictured) came out unbelievably fast as well, v impressed!

My favourite Indian food place by far! Good service, staffs were very attentive and give you recommendations if it’s your first time, it is quite hard to decide just looking at the names of dishes. In order of my liking: 1. Grilled squash curry, cos it’s saucy do order with rice (Jeera Pulao) or nan, we shared one portion of rice between the two of us and the portion was generous. The squash curry had bits of hazelnuts in it, slightly sweet and spicy, great mix of flavours, well seasoned, everything’s on point. 2. Burnt Garlic Tarka Dal, slightly spicy and goes well with rice. 3. Keralan fried chicken, eat as soon as they come otherwise they get cold and sad. The sauce came with it was some kind of mix of mayo with Indian spices, very nice.

Had an absolutely amazing experience at Kricket in Brixton! The prawns were bursting with flavor, and Dan’s decadent grilled monkfish was a true standout — incredibly juicy, perfectly cooked, and generously portioned. Honestly, for the size and quality, the £40 price tag felt more than justified. But the real showstopper? The bhapa doi — hands down the best I’ve ever had. Silky, balanced, and so satisfying. What made the evening even more special was the warmth of the team. Everyone was friendly, but a special shoutout to Ana — she chatted with me, made sure everything was just right, and brought such genuine warmth and care to the experience. I’ll absolutely be back. Incredible food, lovely people, and an atmosphere that just makes you want to stay a little longer. Highly recommend!

I’ve been a Kricket fan since the Pop Brixton days. When I visited recently, nothing had changed—the quality is always top-notch. The classics are still great, and the new dishes are just as good. The service is attentive as always. Definitely recommended.

Yelp
If there's one thing the UK excels at, it's Indian food! Restaurant isn't in the nicest neighborhood, but still worth the visit. My friend and I decided to order everything from the smaller section of the menu, and it was all delicious. We really enjoyed the BHEL PURI, SAMPHIRE PAKORAS, KERALAN FRIED CHICKEN, GRILLED PAHADI TROUT, and the BEEF NIHARI SEEKH KEBAB. The trout was definitely my favorite! Be sure to make a reservation, as it can get quite busy. ENJOY!

Yelp
On trend Modern Indian fare. Fresh food concepts, share plate style, smallish but decent menu ensures dishes are prepared well, which they are. Chill helpful servers do a great job explaining the dishes. Nice edgy modern cave under the trail tracks vibe but with large walk to ceiling windows and high round arched ceiling so one doesn't feel closed in once inside. Looks like it's popular with the bougie bohemian millennial crowd.

Yelp
Kricket is for people who come to Brixton for ethnic food but don't want to have anything too ethnic. Overpriced and uninspired. Better off going to a real Indian place.

Yelp
Having read so much about Kricket, I was excited to try their new-ish location in the Brixton arches. We showed up without a reservation and the cheery host promised us a table in 30 minutes. We ended up waiting closer to 45 but it was well worth the extra time as we managed to get a larger table rather than the very small cafe style ones scattered throughout the main room. The service was spot on - friendly and attentive. He helped us navigate the menu and made recommendations on the best dishes. Unfortunately, the food was inconsistent. The fried chicken was by far the best dish we tried. It was coated with a lovely light batter and paired well with the pickled mooli. The rest of the dishes we ordered were less impressive. The fried samphire was topped with a cloyingly sweet sauce which completely overwhelmed the dish. Our leeks were undercooked, with some pieces still crunchy! The pumpkin and mushrooms were both under seasoned and bland. Given the glowing reviews Kricket has received, it was a disappointing experience. We ended giving the manager our feedback and he took it on board, asking us to email him the next time we came so he could 'take care of us' which was a lovely gesture. It's a lovely, cool venue with fun music and a great vibe. Unfortunately the food needs to up its game.

Yelp
Amazing modern Indian Cuisine, best I have ever had!! Fantastic flavors with the highest quality ingredients. Drinks were also very good. Service was perfect (very attentive but not smothering). The pakora and crudo were my favorite, but everything was excellent. My wife loved the artichoke.
