We'd had been looking forward to having the Kru experience.
I hadn't been to Kru since they were at their old location, and this location is definitely more upscale, nicely decorated, and has a much different vibe to it.
Diners tip: reservations are a must. Yes, you can walk in, but expect the wait to be upwards of two hours without a reservation.
The seating hostess greeted us, and had our reserved table ready fairly quickly. While we were waiting, someone walked by from the restaurant, and offered to take a drink order while we waited for a table. I had high hopes at that point that this was going to be a true dining experience.
Our waiter was rather offputting, and his overall demeanor really changed the dynamics of our meal.
We had all read through the menu, and the four of us decided to order all the things, and make this a dining experience.
We started out with the gyoza. They're fried together like a patty. The sauce has a hard kick of flavor to it.
We ordered the duck skewers. It's not really a shareable, and it made me wonder why it would be listed under appetizers. It was tasty, but I found the meat to be overcooked, and the plum sauce was fairly nonexistent.
Service was already spotty at this point. We had ordered the appetizers and drinks together, and the drinks did not arrive the way that they were ordered, and the appetizers were not served together. One arrived, and 20 minutes later the other arrived.
We ordered numerous rolls, and a spicy Ramen bowl.
We had the same experience with the meal. One roll arrived, and 20+ minutes later, another one arrived, and this continue to be an issue. It's especially problematic when people are sharing food and it's not timed properly. The waiter did not check on us with any frequency, and the lag in time of the food service was never apologized for.
The sushi rolls were disappointing. While the presentation was nice, the food was not. I had never had underwhelming sushi until this experience. How does sushi lack flavor?!?
The adult libations are ok. I found my drink to be mediocre, and absolutely wasn't what I ordered.
The spicy ramen is SPICY! The ramen itself was more al dente than it should have been.
The waiter continued to make us all uncomfortable, and his neglect of our table solidified us not wanting to return.
We ordered desserts to be shared, and sadly this was disappointing as well.
The carrot ginger cake should be removed from the menu. It's that horrible.
The best selection was the tempura cheesecake. It was tasty, but not anything that I would order again. And as a dessert aficionado, that's saying a lot.
Thankfully, the four of us enjoyed one another's company. The $350 bill for a meal that didn't leave any of us wanting to go back, says it all.
