"Sacramento chef Billy Ngo was recently nominated for the James Beard Award for Best Chef, California for his work at his longstanding sushi restaurant, Kru, which he opened in 2005. The menu here is updated daily, and though many of the specialty rolls are popular (like the “Tesla,” made with soft shell crab and silky avocado), the wisest diners hone in on Kru’s nigiri specials, where Ngo’s precise knife work and pristine fish selection truly shine. Omakase is offered weekly on Wednesday evenings at $200 per person." - Tamerra Griffin

This was one of my absolute favorite dining experiences I have ever had. The food was incredible. The staff were helpful and friendly. I loved sitting at the sushi bar and talking to one of the chefs and watching them cook food. I went a little overboard on food orders for one but knew this place was special. I started with a 15 piece chefs choice nigiri plate. The presentation was gorgeous. The wasabi it came with was incredibly flavorful and the fish was incredibly fresh. The ginger soup was beautiful and full of flavor. This place really is about the presentation. When they bring it out to you the plate has all the fixings without the soup and then slowly pour the soup into the bowl in front of you in a beautiful presentation. I then ordered the Waygu Tsukune. The flavor of the beef was out of this world and one of the best things I've ever tasted. The chef saw I enjoyed it so much he suggested I order a piece of Waygu nigiri with quail egg and truffle. The truffle was shaved off inches high and the combination was delicious. As I was eating the meat I was sipping on a Waygu bourbon cocktail that perfectly matched the flavor profile of the food. Finally I decided I wanted to end the night with a basic spicy tuna roll just to see if I could come back and enjoy this place on the cheaper end. The answer was "absolutely yes." The atmosphere is fun and lively. The food is incredible. The presentation is impeccable. I waited too long to come here. Don't make the same mistake.

My sister, brother in law, and myself took my dad here for his 71st birthday. The food was incredible, we started with wagyu A5 tartar with a quail egg on top. It was amazing. We also got several pieces of sushi (pictured below) that was incredibly fresh and amazing. We finished with 3 Japanese desserts, for a total of $285 before tip. We were all very impressed, full, and happy. I highly recommend this restaurant!

This place was INCREDIBLE! My brother and his fiancé brought my aunt and I who were visiting on the last night of our trip. The atmosphere was very cool and lively, the waitstaff were seamlessly organized and friendly, and the food was so amazing that I could shed a tear. We ordered a ton of stuff, included the Brussels sprouts, karaage, pork belly, hamachi kana, wagyu burger, tuna scallion hand roll, sunshine roll, and cocktails. I particularly loved the sunshine roll, karaage, and the hamachi Kama. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to this. My special cocktail was the “green eggs and ham” and was bright and crisp. My brother’s outlandish “pastrami on rye” cocktail, while sounding strange, was also perplexingly delicious. If I had the money I’d go here for dinner every night. That being said, the pricing is super reasonable for the quality and innovative flavors of this food. It is well worth the spend. Shout out to our incredible waiter, David. He was awesome and I hope they pay him $1million dollars every day.

Google
I recently went on a CA state/national park trip and my foodie partner in dining took me to this top notch contemporary Japanese restaurant. High marks all around from presentation, quality, taste, texture and service. Every menu item that arrived at the table was accompanied by a description of the ingredients. ▪️Kyoshi Island mocktail ▪️Sashimi Tapas - Chef's choice of 5 different fish presented 5 ways ▪️Hamachi Kama 👏 ** I could've easily devoured this all by myself. ▪️Pork Belly Yakiton 👏 ▪️Tea Smoked Duck Confit 👏 ▪️Sujime Prawns 👏 ▪️Seven-Spice Crusted Tuna 🌶️ ▪️Hokkaido Milk Bread with uni butter 👏 ▪️Strawberry Mousse with Green Tea crumbles and sesame crackers ⭐ There are 8 inventive options for non-alcoholic beverages (more than I've seen in other restaurants which as a non-drinker I appreciated) that are twists on classic cocktails. The sushi bar is a beautiful focal point of the lively dining area where you'll find the sushi chefs intricately prepare and plate delicious Japanese fare. A vibrant mural captures your attention as you walk toward the hallway of four standalone bathrooms and communal sinks. Definitely an unforgettable dining experience and 💯 worth revisiting.

We've been here 5 or 6 times and it only seems to get better. Arguably the best restaurant in Sacramento, though I haven't tried Ella or Kitchen. The gentleman who served us at the bar tables Sunday night, March 2nd, was the best server I've had at a restaurant ever. He knew everything about every dish, had recommendations, and was seemingly always available despite taking care of all the bar tables. We were served drinks while we waited for our table to open up, which was a nice surprise. Their special drink menu is very fun, this time it was a variety of drinks that tasted like various foods. The Krabby Patty tasted exactly like a hamburger; can't say I love that, but it was fun and well executed (see pic). Sushi was great. Their ngo burger is incredible. Loved the fried lobster kakiage. The Hot Honey Kara-age was super crispy and tasty. I could go on, but let's just say it is worth stopping by if you can. I'd encourage having a reservation, otherwise you'll be waiting a long time.

We had heard about Kru for years but never dined there. While we had heard the food was great, we also had been told that it was expensive and the atmosphere was sort of pretentious. Nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, the food was great, but the prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was lively and contemporary with people of all backgrounds enjoying their meals. We shared the salad of the day followed by two "special rolls": the Kings and the Spicy Liz. Presentation was wonderful and the rolls were amazing. Some of the best sushi we have had in the Sacramento region. We definitely will go back again.

Great place. I enjoyed my dining experience here. The drinks were very creative and delicious. The atmosphere was a good vibe. Service exceptional. I enjoed the Wagu Ramen and it was a delicious and satisfying experience, The rich, flavorful broth and tender slices of Wagyu beef elevated the dish. The noodles are perfectly cooked, and the balance of seasoning made each bite enjoyable.

Yelp
everything was amazing here. Absolutely zero critiques. We got to sit near the sushi station and it was such a delight watching the chefs prepare our meal. Super attentive staff and a very upscale restaurant. One of the chefs even gave us a small tasting of the fried sturgeon skin ! Unique plates and they even have real wasabi (you have to ask). Honey hot chicken was absolutely delicious I didn't think I'd like it. Caviar tasted like butter and the chips it came with were so crispy and light - they are fried in house. Sushi rolls were decadent ! I recommend the one that comes w/ the spicy sauce (on the white plate in my photo). For sure coming back here next time I'm craving sushi.

Yelp
We had a reservation at 7:15pm on a Sunday night. It wasn't too busy so service was very quick and the restaurant wasn't too noisy. For starters we got the Lobster Tempura and Hot Honey Kara-age, both were good but the Kara-age was my favorite. We got the Kings, Firecracker, and Tesla rolls. My favorite was the Firecracker (the ponzo sauce is amazing!), and then the Tesla, and last the Kings. The Kings was just OK to me because I wasn't really feeling the lemon on the roll. For dessert we got the Peach Miso Sorbet and Chocolate Black Sesame Torte. The Torte was alright, it was kinda dry and the flavor wasn't the best. The Sorbet was refreshing but a little too sweet. I'd say overall the food was decent but for the high price point I was expecting a lot better. Still would recommend everyone to try it to see how they like it!

Yelp
The ambience is very non traditional. More like what you expect to see when going to a typical American bar restaurant trying to be a fancy/upscale restaurant. None of the servers will be Asian and expect to pay a nominal fee for dinner and service. The server didn't understand we wanted separate omakase and assumed we'd eat one set together. I was very confused by this. We needed to clarify it for him after he brought out only one set and asked for a second set. This is not true omakase by the way. It's a nigiri set, plain and simple. The fish tasted like it's been frozen so long the flesh was falling apart from defrosting. The sushi rice didn't have any aging and didn't even stay together in one clump when picked up. I think most folks are coming for the idea of the place. It's not a place for a college student on a date. It's a place for someone to take someone else who may not be familiar with sushi but wants to be impressed by the prices of things on the menu. This is a totally valid reason to choose a place for dinner. It's just not for me.

Yelp
I tried Kru for the first time yesterday evening and we made reservations about a month in advance. Even that early, finding a time after work, we had to pick a time later in the day. So if you're thinking about going, make your reservation! We arrived 45 minutes early to our reservation and were told that our table wouldn't be ready until the reservation time. They moved us up to be the next seated due to our early arrival. We waited about 25 minutes for a table that opened up outside on the patio. We were offered a drink menu while we waited to get started. The miso margarita stood out to us and we got two! The salty foam on top was a nice touch and we liked the drinks. We ordered the Gyoza which was delicious! It came with a dipping sauce, a couple pickled veggies and the Gyoza had a crust on it that was crispy. They did not disappoint! Our server recommended the sunshine roll and one of his favorites. I'm glad we went with this roll because it was unique without being too far gone from a sushi roll. We saved the 10 piece nigiri for last and we were excited that it had bluefin on it because that was also described to be a top favorite by our server. He described it as fatty and buttery. The presentation of the nigiri was beautiful and the fish were vibrant. Under each fish was a little bit of wasabi which added a kick to the flavor. The fish was not as buttery as I thought it would be. The fish had unique and intricate details which I enjoyed but overall, I have to say I didn't think the fish was the best I've ever had. I was comparing the bluefin to kampachi which is very buttery tasting and was a little bummed that they didn't have it on their menu. Overall, Kru is elegant and tasteful and a great food spot to try in Sacramento! Everything was beautiful from the layout of the restaurant to the food presentation on our plates. I'd love to come back and try more!

Yelp
Oh, are we doing a Kru review? I'm surprised I haven't done one yet. I started going to Kru when it was a plucky little upstart inhabiting the old bones of the original Celestine's on J st. The omakase bar only had like 5 seats. When Kru stepped up their game to the new location on Folsom, they certainly expanded the number of sushi bar seats as well as everything else. Like Virginia Slims: they've come a long way, baby. Look, I've been to Kru like 100 times over the years. I've done the omakase. I've done the 'dine at the bar.' I've done the normal table service. I've had the late night hamburger which is much better than any sushi place has a right to offer. I've done the huge, ornate presentations where we just let Billy do whatever he wanted. This place cares about food and cares about the food it gives you. And their drink program has been phenomenal since they moved into the new space. Yes, I know multiple people have been in charge of it, but it's been consistently wonderful. So, I know what you're thinking. "James, it's so expensive." "James, I can go somewhere else for a deep fried tempura sushi roll that's way cheaper." First off: get your shit together and stop eating rolls. Put on your big boy pants and get a nigiri or sashimi mix plate. Yeah, it's not cheap. Wanna know why? Because fresh, high quality fish sent to a place 90 miles from the ocean is fucking expensive! You shouldn't be questioning sushi that's NOT cheap. You should be questioning sushi that IS cheap. Have you gone to other cities that do higher end sushi? Go to Sushi Yashida or Nobu or Kusokabe or Morimoto and report back on the price. Yeah, that's what I thought. Kru gets it right. The food is great. The drinks are great. The bartenders are great. I'll keep coming back. If you want cheap, Google 'Bento box Sacramento' and enjoy your 50% cockroach roll. I'm out.

Yelp
This was my 2nd time at Kru, and it was still a 5/5! I ironically had the same waiter (forgot his name), but such great service! Very attentive and loved how he provided recommendations. My table ordered the Shrimp Croquettes, Beef Tongue, Duck Liver Mousse special, Caramelized Pineapple Mochi, Chocolate-Black Sesame Torte, and Matcha Cheesecake to share. I also got my own sushi roll! My favorite thing we ordered was 100% the duck liver mousse which came with pieces of toasted bread to spread the mousse on. The mousse was delicious and didn't have that iron taste that people are afraid of. Out of the desserts, my favorite was the Chocolate-Black Sesame Torte! However, there wasn't a bad thing we ordered! Will definitely be returning!

Anita P.

Yelp
The food was FANTASTIC!!, and service was top tier! The whole vibe of the place is beautiful and worth coming all the way from Folsom. One of our servers named Britta was very kind and accommodating. She made our experience 110% more satisfying. We will definitely be going back and recommending this place to everyone.

Rachel G.

Yelp
Great place, but be sure to make reservations, it was super busy on a Thursday. The food was amazing. The service was great. Our waiter John was very attentive. The bartender Adrian was so nice. We sat at the sushi bar which was fun to watch the food prep. Would definitely recommend.

Ophelia B.

Yelp
This place is perfect for trying a little bit of everything. There's so much care put into the food and the decoration, and all of the staff are very attentive. The limited time cocktails were especially fun; Kru collaborates with a local artist to design the menu, and it helps support local charities. When I went with my mom, we each got a seasonal item (I got a dumpling, she got a soup) in addition to standard menu items, and we loved everything.

Mr. Juan D.

Yelp
The ambiance was soothing and calm. Great, speedy service greeted me as I sat at the bar. My orders were the spicy B and the spicy Liz. I was pleased with everything. I intend to go back and sample more of their rolls and curry.

Alyssa G.

Yelp
A little late on the review, but the experience was so memorable that I can recall every detail. This place was wonderful, we had a reservation for two and were treated and served well. The atmosphere feels busy, but the nice low light made our table for two especially romantic. The food took awhile to come out, but everything tasted so fresh and amazing. We ordered the nigiri mix to get a chance to try everything and loved it so much. The bluefin tuna was so tender and I honestly miss it so much. We also had to order more pieces of the buttery King Salmon nigiri. Everything was presented so beautifully and so fresh. They have a daily menu that changes and would love to try out some of their different ramen (menu comes off as riffs from Kodaiko). Drinks were a great too. My boyfriend got the Kat Daddy and it came in an adorable cup ! Service was so amazing and this place does not skip on quality when it matters. Highly recommend for special occasions, but we certainly plan on coming back for drinks and the ramen (haven't even scratched the surface of what they offer!)

Yelp
The sushi at Kru is nothing short of phenomenal. Each piece showcases the expertise of the chefs, with fresh, top-quality ingredients meticulously assembled to create a symphony of flavors. Whether you're a sushi aficionado or a newcomer to Japanese cuisine, Kru's sushi selection promises to delight even the most discerning palates. But Kru is not just about sushi. Their burger is a surprising highlight, demonstrating the versatility and creativity of the kitchen. Juicy, flavorful, and expertly cooked, it's a testament to Kru's commitment to culinary excellence across diverse genres.

Nat T.

Yelp
3rd time to Kru but first time on a Monday. The last two times we came on weekends and the waits were long or reservation times were late. Monday had several open tables from 5:45-7:00. Parking can be tough with street parking and a pretty small lot. The food is always great to amazing. This time we got the nigiri set and the chirashi as well as the shrimp croquet and beef tongue. The shrimp croquet was really good with corn and sauce. Right on the border of probably ordering again. The beef tongue was good with a lot of great flavor, but the beef flavor didn't really stand out. On the thicker side of beef tongue that we've had. The fish is always great. Would just note that the chirashi only had fish. Can't wait to come again for their excellent sushi and try new dishes.

Anh L.

Yelp
It's my first time at Kru and it did not disappoint. Everything was so fresh and melted in my mouth. Great service and it didn't take too long for the food to come out. I tried to make reservations online for a Saturday night and the only time available was 9pm, so I called in and was able to get a reservation at 7pm. Make sure to reserve in advance to avoid long wait. Free parking is a bonus!

Joanna S.

Yelp
This place was amazing! Great food, wonderful cocktails, cute atmosphere. Too bad we couldn't get reservations and had to sit at the community table. Service was not great, unfortunately we were somewhat forgotten about & had to get up to remind our waiter for refills, to order more cocktails, condiments etc. knocking one star for that. Not sure if that's the service that comes with sitting at the " community table". Would give them another try perhaps with a reservation.

Rashi D.

Yelp
Another great experience at Kru! Got a lychee martini (not on menu) and they killed it - added a light foam on top that made the drink so good. Got the Hokkaido Milk Bread with Bone Marrow Butter - my brother's favorite. Perfect flavorful light appetizer. Got 5 rolls: Tesla, Rainbow, Sunshine and Firecracker. The Tesla is a family favorite because the garlic cream is perfection!! Gave my brother a matcha ice cream treat for his birthday - not too bad

Stevie W.

Yelp
Came in for our anniversary, we were super dressed up- and everyone else was dressed very casually. We felt a little out of place, but that quickly dissipated as we got a bottle of champagne rolling. The pacing was a little off in terms of the kitchen- it took quite a while to get our first couple bites, and then a really long time to get the roll we ordered. We were sitting there for about 20 minutes waiting on that piece to be brought to the table, and no mention of the wait. The BBQ albacore was a stand out- great flavor and texture. My partner was really happy with his Nigiri mix, fresh fish. Drinks (the Ecto-cooler and the dude) were really tasty, and went down easy. All in all a pretty good trip, and we will return (this time I'll sit at the chefs counter though!)

Irina M.

Yelp
Went to this restaurant couple of times. The place is beautiful and very clean. Service is good too. The only down side of it always booked out far. The food is very good, always something new and very fresh. Their plates are just beautiful piece of art!

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Service is great. Ambience is great. Sushi was okay, nothing special. Not sure if it was even that fresh.

Mike R.

Yelp
Four for 260dollars. We ordered a mix of plates beef tongue was good , liver mouse was excellent, bone marrow was okay - a little salty, small squids was best, welk clam was chewy and tough, rainbow roll was boring, pork belly was too salty, chocolate mousse was so so and the mocho pineapple was good. Svs was poor, had to ask for beer three times, a wait between orders. Overall poor for a very expensive meal. We will be back with apprehension.

Steven H.

Yelp
From service, to ambiance to the food, everything is 5 stars. The menu might be pricy, but it is well worth it. No wonder there's an hour wait on most days and almost fully booked for a month out. I found that the nigiri from the individually ordered pieces to be better than the nigiri mix, but i guess you get what you paid for. The kamatoro nigiri, wagyu nigiri and uni nigiri is out of this world. I would highly recommend you try all three!!!

Albina M.

Yelp
Consistently good and I love that they add in new items to the menu to keep it exciting.

Ashley C.

Yelp
Kru is one of those restaurants that everybody knows about in Sacramento. It's a staple and you definitely need to go at least once if you live here! It's been so long since I last ate here that it actually felt like our first time again. But this time it was memorable and every dish was a winner. We wanted a little bit of everything but weren't sure if what we picked would be enough, and we ended up adding another roll halfway through the meal, which was a good decision. Without it I think we would've been content still but not full. In total we had $150 worth, which sure seems like a lot, but that's actually the average price of omakase for ONE person at most places and we were equally full. (By the way the omakase at Kru has returned, for 1-2 weeknights a week with limited advance reservation). We were seated at our 5:15 reservation, and our food came out one at a time between 5:30-6:50. It wasn't too long in between dishes, and it seemed like they served it this way intentionally to make it feel like a course meal. -Scotch quail egg: I was interested to try this but out of all the delicious plates tonight, I could probably skip this next time. It was a great bite for sure, loved the citrus from the yuzu, but I would put the $8 toward nigiri instead. -Half dozen oysters: did not disappoint! Great quality and they were nice and cold. My only complaint is that I didn't have more to take full advantage of all the accompaniments! It tasted great with the ponzu sauce but even better with the kick from the chili and the kizami. -Sashimi mix: such a beautiful bowl! I loved all of the veg that came with it so you could actually enjoy all of the "decoration" with the fish, like the wakame and the cucumber slices. I also appreciated that it came with kizami since other places require you to purchase it separately. Next time I would definitely like to try the nigiri or chirashi! -A5 wagyu nigiri: wagyu nigiri is usually our favorite bite at past omakase experiences so we had to try it here. The meat was buttery and it was still a bit warm when we got it so it just melts in your mouth. Definitely worth getting again. -Firecracker roll: we added this on to our original order and it came out before the other one. Our server was so good that he noticed it before we could even say anything! It looked quite normal but the flavor was unique. The spicy garlic sauce and jalapeño were a nice addition and then I tried it with the kimchi ponzu and I was blown away! I need a jar of that ponzu to purchase please. All of it combined surprisingly isn't overpoweringly hot and still very enjoyable. -Kings roll: I'm not a Kings fan but I'm definitely a fan of this roll. We chose it for the lobster tempura but it was a winner because of the combo of the lemon, spicy mayo and unagi sauce WITH the lobster tempura. Another beautiful visual but also probably the best dish of the night. Service was amazing. They greeted us a happy anniversary at the front, and when our server arrived. I wish we got his name because he really deserves credit (a tall Caucasian male, hopefully it helps narrow it down!). He even brought us a complimentary Kombu Crème Brûlée to celebrate. It was perfectly cooked...creamy custard and caramelized sugar top. Kombu (seaweed) in a dessert seems like it would be odd but it was less noticeable against the blackberries and just made for a delicious creme brûlée. The ambiance is a mix of casual yet formal. You're getting the more formal service that you'd find at the fancier kind of places, but you also have the casual ambiance of the roar of the dining room from all the talking customers and the music playing. You can walk in dressed nicer or you can walk in with a nice shirt and jeans and feel comfortable either way. Great experience at Kru and truly solidified why it's such a Sacramento staple!!

Loralyn N.

Yelp
Sacramento actually has some great Japanese food gems, and Kru is at the top of the list. My best friend and I came just before the dinner rush and sat at the bar. The bartenders were super friendly and conversational. I really liked the look of the bar and the modern, chic atmosphere. Perfect for date night. I ordered the Tesla and she ordered the Fire Cracker Roll. Both rolls had great quality pieces of fish that were nice and thick. You're really paying for quality and quantity. I loved that cream sauce on top of my roll. It's really refreshing to find a sushi roll that doesn't just have the standard unagi or spicy mayo sauce. I really wish we had more time to order more dishes. We'll definitely have to go back and order more!

Ann H.

Yelp
I visited Kru for drinks and dessert, which was amazing. The bartenders were very affable and welcoming. They prepared my cognac lemon drop perfectly. It was not overly sweet and contained the perfect amount of cognac. The tempura cheesecake was delicious. I love the crunchiness of the batter with the soft cheesecake filling. It also came with ice cream and berries. This was such a pleasant experience and I cannot wait to visit again.

Kimberly N.

Yelp
The food was amazing. We had the pork belly, sashimi mix, otoro, and tako. Our favorite was definitely the sashimi mix. Husband tried their Kru old fashioned with the Japanese whiskey. A little different but not bad. The dessert was delicious too. We tried the Matcha Tiramisu and crème brûlée. Service was excellent. We initially had reservations for 830 PM but told them if they had anything earlier give us a call sure enough they did and they had an opening at 5 PM which was even better. Upon checking in we were seated immediately. Our waiter was great. Our drinks kept coming, and our water was always full. The restaurant is quaint with great modern decor. We'll definitely come back

James F.

Yelp
Friendly, great atmosphere, beautiful sushi bar to sit at. The Nigiri sampler. Is fresh and flavorful. The toro selection is fantastic. Had a rainbow roll and the crab base is excellent. Best sushi bar I have been to inland from the coast. Thanks! The miso happy Margarita is good if you're in the mood.

Yelp
Celebrated my birthday at Kru! It was such a beautiful restaurant with a dim but warm atmosphere. All the dishes we ordered were unique in presentation, definitely something that I haven't seen at other restaurants before. They offer a few vegan options and are willing to modify the rolls, just let them know! The appetizers were lovely. As the birthday girl, I was able to try out new dishes that i've never had before. Such as the uni panna cotta, which had such a creamy base that tasted exactly like butter. The wagyu was delicious, and even better mixed into the raw egg yolk. The oysters came out way smaller than I anticipated, I was a bit taken aback. However, the uni was the perfect add on since it offered a creamy but rich flavor. The rolls were nothing too special, they were delicious but nothing that blew my mind. They were fairly simple with the creativity and toppings, I would've loved to see similar concepts as their appetizers. Dessert was lovely and they offer an ice cream dish with a candle for those who are celebrating. Service was great, we were checked on multiple times and you don't have to worry about running out of water. The dishes came out in a timely manner despite how busy they were. Overall, a very beautiful restaurant that's worth a try! :)

Suzy S.

Yelp
Kru was recommended by a friend and it didn't disappoint. We entered to find an airy, impressive open space. They had just opened for dinner and the bar area was almost already filled. It was packed with people waiting when we left so reservations is a good idea. Our personable server, Isabella, greeted us warmly and guided us through the sections of the menu. We ate a bit of this and that and enjoyed it all. The star of the show was the sashimi. Best ever! Fresh, tender and nicely presented. We enjoyed it so much we will be sure to order the large mix next time. This is definitely my new favorite sushi spot!

David M.

Yelp
It took us a while to get here. So happy we made it. The food is beyond reproach magnificent. The beautiful service was impeccable. Expert guidance on the menu. Our waiter knew the wine list and all its nuances so completely. The menu knowledge from our waiter made me feel as if it was his menu. They even have a tea menu with a beautifully cultivated selection of amazingly delicious brews. The appetizers are expertly crafted and amazingly executed. The sushi is so delicious I found no use for the bath of wasabi and soy sauce. If you've been here you know. If you haven't here's yet another nudge that you need to find your way here.

Yelp
Solo dinner date at Kru and it was bomb. The oysters, King Roll, Go Green and Chutoro Carpaccio were amazing. Service was quick and kind. I'd go there again!

Yelp
This is one of the better sushi places I have been to. They have delicious nigiri at a reasonable price. Their drink menu changes every so often and the drinks are fun to try. The various themes make it fun and interesting to experience. I love their sushi. Their fatty bluefin tuna cuts are so delicious and simply melt in your mouth. I have sat at the cocktail bar and the sushi bar. Both are great experiences. The sushi bar is a fantastic experience and you can get a personalized nigiri journey! Chef Eli made me a delicious kamatoro with various additions to make my experience so much more enjoyable. He knew exactly what to give me to end my meal and I loved the unique flavor profile. I will definitely visit this place every time I am in Sacramento. If you love sushi and drinks, please come here and enjoy yourself.

Yelp
Best sushi spot in town! It's clear why they're up for a James Beard award- fresh, creative, modern, and delicious food worth every penny. Service is fast and friendly, wait times can be long so make a reservation or arrive early (I've arrived as early as 4:30 and there's been a line waiting halfway around the building!) . Great spot for any occasion, can dress up or down, come with a date or come with a crowd!

Yelp
There's not a lot to say about this place beyond - best sushi in Sacramento. You're not getting Mikuni rolls - you're getting more authentic, super high quality / fresh nigiri and sashimi, as well as some delightful apps. It's expensive. You get what you pay for. Peep the photos and book your reservation. This spot has a great ambiance and even better food. Can't wait to go back... once Bitcoin is up again.

Yelp
The cocktails are spectacular here, so creative and balanced. I have been here twice and will continue to return to see what else they will create. There is fresh fish here, really fresh sushi and sashimi. I loved the sunshine roll was exceptional. We ordered two. Very creative sushi roll flavors. Service at the bar was excellent! Very attentive and informative. There is small parking lot is free behind Kru. Also a lot across from obo.

Yelp
I am from Seattle and come down to Sacramento a few times a year for work. I always come to Kru now! The ambiance is perfect and vibrant especially since dining alone can be intimidating. The bartenders are all very friendly while hustling at the same time. I ordered the seasonal corn soup, morel & shallot dumpling, and the sunshine roll, all of which did not miss. One of the best rolls I have had and Seattle has some very good sushi restaurants. I'll be back!

Yelp
No question - the absolute best sushi in town, perhaps in all of Northern California! Also, the cocktails are exquisite and served in fancy fashion. It's no surprise that this gem has been nominated for the James BearAward. It's only a matter of time before Kru gets its Michelin star! Reserve early - it's not easy to get in!

Yelp
I told my man this is the sexiest sushi restaurant I've ever been to. The sleek atmosphere, the attentive service and delicious food were everything I wanted. The music was on point. There was hardly a moment when our water glasses were empty. We started off with the Hokkaido milk bread that came with bone marrow butter and pink Himalayan salt. Wow. Delicious is an understatement. We ordered the Hapa Hapa, Kings, and Tesla rolls and the poke trio. Don't forget the pickled wasabi. The Kings roll came out first and that set the tone for the evening. The poke just melted in your mouth like butter. Amazing! I hope he takes me here again.

Yelp
It was my first time going to the Kru restaurant. I would totally recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to have some really good food. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and good energy. Everything that we ordered was delicious. From the wonton, to the beef cheeks, the sashimi. Everything. Delicious. Highly recommend it.

Yelp
First time trying Kru and I was pretty impressed with the service, cleanliness and ambiance of the restaurant, and mostly importantly, the freshness of the fish. The hotate nigiri was my favorite part of the dinner. I also really enjoyed the toro-scallion cut roll. We also ordered three items from the kitchen: smoked duck kushiyaki, wagyu tsukune, and wagyu flat iron. The duck skewer was ok-- the sauce on the duck was a bit overwhelming. The wagyu tsukune was good. I wasn't too impressed with the wagyu flat iron-- it kind of just seemed like a regular steak (not buttery soft or what you'd expect from wagyu). I'll definitely be returning for the sushi and nigiri.

Yelp
It is good for what it is. I reasonable priced sushi place that serves up edible sushi in a date night spot atmosphere. Get there at 5 pm or actually before when it opens as there will be a line to get in and if you get there at 5:30 like we did last night on a Saturday there will be a 1.5 hr wait. The waiting area is a bit pathetic with a couple very small benches so many people are standing. You can get a text when your table is ready and head out which if it was not raining we would have done. The cocktail options really do give away that this is a cheap restaurant disguised as a nice place. Literally they serve a cocktail in the glass that says big gulp on it lol. How I judge my sushi place is the salmon nigiri. This salmon was far from buttery, instead was fishy and needed a swim in the soy and wasabi. We also got the spicy tuna which was true to its name and spicy, and the eel avocado role. With their basic roles coming in around 10$ and there speciality roles coming in at 17-20$ you cannot beat the price, for the atmosphere.

Yelp
I visited Kru for the first time to celebrate my best friend's birthday! We didn't have a reservation and although it was a Sunday night, the staff made sure we were comfortable while we waited for the next available table. The ambience was contemporary and classy. I spent so much time just looking around and enjoying the decor. Kru is definitely the place to be if you are looking for an elevated dining experience! I ordered the Rainbow Roll. Perfection. They also offered my friend a special birthday dessert! I always appreciate when birthdays are made a little extra special. I'm such a sushi lover, so I look forward to my next dinner at Kru!

Yelp
10/10! Being that I live in Los Angeles I didn't expect to be blown away by sushi in SACRAMENTO! But it was delicious and I can't wait to go back! We got a bunch of specialty rolls but the lobster roll was the only one on my camera roll. Impeccable service, fantastic atmosphere and we did have a Reservation. Place is really cute inside.

Yelp
Delicious, amazing Japanese food in Sacramento! As a vegetarian, I especially love coming here because I can find delicious vegetarian items and my husband can enjoy the sushi. I especially loved the warm mushroom salad, miso soup and go green roll ! Oh and the seasonal dessert with apple cider donuts and black walnut ice cream was WOW! So good! Be sure to try this spot out!

Yelp
We'd had been looking forward to having the Kru experience. I hadn't been to Kru since they were at their old location, and this location is definitely more upscale, nicely decorated, and has a much different vibe to it. Diners tip: reservations are a must. Yes, you can walk in, but expect the wait to be upwards of two hours without a reservation. The seating hostess greeted us, and had our reserved table ready fairly quickly. While we were waiting, someone walked by from the restaurant, and offered to take a drink order while we waited for a table. I had high hopes at that point that this was going to be a true dining experience. Our waiter was rather offputting, and his overall demeanor really changed the dynamics of our meal. We had all read through the menu, and the four of us decided to order all the things, and make this a dining experience. We started out with the gyoza. They're fried together like a patty. The sauce has a hard kick of flavor to it. We ordered the duck skewers. It's not really a shareable, and it made me wonder why it would be listed under appetizers. It was tasty, but I found the meat to be overcooked, and the plum sauce was fairly nonexistent. Service was already spotty at this point. We had ordered the appetizers and drinks together, and the drinks did not arrive the way that they were ordered, and the appetizers were not served together. One arrived, and 20 minutes later the other arrived. We ordered numerous rolls, and a spicy Ramen bowl. We had the same experience with the meal. One roll arrived, and 20+ minutes later, another one arrived, and this continue to be an issue. It's especially problematic when people are sharing food and it's not timed properly. The waiter did not check on us with any frequency, and the lag in time of the food service was never apologized for. The sushi rolls were disappointing. While the presentation was nice, the food was not. I had never had underwhelming sushi until this experience. How does sushi lack flavor?!? The adult libations are ok. I found my drink to be mediocre, and absolutely wasn't what I ordered. The spicy ramen is SPICY! The ramen itself was more al dente than it should have been. The waiter continued to make us all uncomfortable, and his neglect of our table solidified us not wanting to return. We ordered desserts to be shared, and sadly this was disappointing as well. The carrot ginger cake should be removed from the menu. It's that horrible. The best selection was the tempura cheesecake. It was tasty, but not anything that I would order again. And as a dessert aficionado, that's saying a lot. Thankfully, the four of us enjoyed one another's company. The $350 bill for a meal that didn't leave any of us wanting to go back, says it all.

Yelp
Kru is by far the best sushi restaurant in Sacramento. The food is fantastic and so fresh, the service is amazing, and the ambiance is perfect for all types of occasions. It's near impossible to walk in and get a table so highly recommend making reservations when they open online. We always order the nigiri mix - chef's choice! Every sushi roll is great just kind of depends on what type of fish/flavors you like. We love all the different cocktails, but my favorite is the open sesame. It seems like such a weird mix of flavors but it's great if you like gin and a savory feel to your cocktail. This last time we got the carrot cake for dessert and it was the only thing I remembered to take a picture of! It came with coffee ice cream and was perfectly moist. Highly recommend Kru and can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Food was amazing and outstanding. Everything I had was delicious and amazing quality. I really did not like my waitress + she was forgetful and nicer to all surrounding sitting customers but everyone has bad days.

Yelp
I wish we have a restaurant like this in San Francisco soon. This is a business casual spot for foodies that I really enjoyed, good sushi check, good specialty cocktails that changes with the seasons, and great fusion dishes and tapas. My favorite dishes were the uni beignets, the mushroom gnocchi, and all the nigiri we had especially the fish from Japan. Service was great and attentive and the food just kept coming. The restaurant is huge and has an atmosphere for everyone, for example if you want a more intimidate vibe you can sit at the chefs counter where you can watch them make the sushi, or if you want a fun casual vibe you can sit at the bar, if you came with a group you can sit at a bigger table in the main dining area. The biggest takeaway from dining here is that the menu and atmosphere is diverse and there's something for everyone that you'll enjoy.

Yelp
Took out the wife on a pre-Valentine's day dinner. (My birthday is valentine's day, and we both are not fond of big, loud, crowds...she's taking me out later this week). It works for us. She is a big fan of sushi, and I am immunocompromised and can't eat it, but when you love someone, you bite the bullet and you go. Overall, the food was good, but a little......bougie. I came expecting to spend close $100.00, so I am all good. But, it seemed a bit pretentious. My wife ordered a crab wonton......no literally, ONE, crab, wonton. Her salmon sashimi was close to $20, not bad....but it was tapas-sized portion. I enjoyed my scotch quail egg, but again, though somewhat tasty, price not equivalent to portion. My main course...the burger. It was ok, not big, a little bit overcharred.....for again, $20. She enjoyed her Tesla roll. Our server was quite attentive and friendly, and was quick with drink refills. She went above and beyond, so yay for excellent customer service. I feel if you have a lot of money, groups of friends, and want alcohol, you may enjoy this place. My wife and I, who have literally dined at Providence (Michelin-starred tasting menu), walked out.....hungry. I mean.....I think your best bet are the sushi rolls. Anything else may be just an excuse to be overcharged by bite-sized morsels. Good, but we both talked on the way home that we probably won't be returning.
