Kudu Coffee & Craft Beer - Review - Radcliffeborough - Charleston - The Infatuation

"Kudu brings two of our favorite things together in one place: really good coffee and beer. They roast all of the coffee on-site and with 20+ beers on tap, many of which are from regional breweries, you’ll definitely be able to find a beer or two that you like. This shop in Radcliffeborough also serves pastries and sandwiches from local bakeries, along with some of the best chocolate chip cookies we’ve ever had. They have a great patio too, so bring that book a friend of yours gave you two months ago that you still haven’t started and make an afternoon out of your visit. photo credit: Lindsey Harris" - Emily Yates

Kudu Coffee and Craft Beer is a gem in Charleston! The location is perfect, tucked away but still close to everything. The outdoor seating area is one of the best around, with plenty of shade, a relaxing ambiance, and great vibes all around. Whether you're grabbing a fresh coffee in the morning or sipping on a craft beer in the afternoon, the drinks are always on point. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and quick to make great recommendations. It's the kind of place where you can lose track of time. Definitely one of my favorite spots in the city!

Kudu is hands down one of my favorite spots in Charleston. Whether you’re craving a perfectly brewed cup of coffee or a refreshing craft beer, Kudu delivers every time. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting — perfect for enjoying a sunny day in their charming courtyard. It is a must visit spot whenever I visit. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable, and you can tell they care about quality. I love that they support local breweries and roasters, too — everything feels thoughtfully curated. If you’re in Charleston, this is a place you have to check out. Great vibes, great drinks, and an all-around gem!

Google
Best coffee in Charleston, period. I’ve been coming to Kudu since 2016. It’s a great little hangout with a funky vibe, excellent food and drinks, and a lovely outdoor courtyard. Kudu is a must-visit for me when I am in town.

Google
A must stop when I visit this area. The best coffee in the area, especially the caramel cappuccino. Just some really great coffee.

Google
Very nice coffee shop! I tried their matcha latte and it was super good! Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Google
Ok.. so much positive things to say about this gem. First of all their mint strawberry lemonade was amazing. Second of all they treated our huge group with respect even though we had a lot of kids with strollers. Very cute and well taken care of shop. Though I did not try their pastries but they looked delicious.

Google
Great little coffee shop downtown! Chill vibes, great coffee and beer selection, and friendly people. Honey latte and pecan coffee cake muffin were both delicious. They have a very nice outdoor seating courtyard as well. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Best coffee place in Charleston!! Friendly staff and has a nice courtyard to relax and drink your morning coffee.

Yelp
Staff here is super friendly and helpful. The coffee has a wonderful aroma, and not diluted like some places. We also had their coffee cake... yum! They have been indoor and outdoor seating... super cute place.

Yelp
We visited Charleston, SC, and Kudu Coffee & Craft Beer Bar was one of the highlights of our trip! This charming spot offers a laid-back atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing break during our tour of the city. We tried the spinach quiche and the ham and cheese quiche, and both were absolutely delicious--flaky crust, rich flavors, and perfectly satisfying. The coffee was equally impressive, with a smooth and robust flavor that paired wonderfully with our meal. The outdoor courtyard is a standout feature, offering a peaceful oasis where we could sit and enjoy our food and drinks. The staff was friendly and efficient, adding to the overall positive experience. Kudu is a great spot for breakfast, a mid-day coffee break, or even to unwind with a craft beer later in the day. We'd definitely stop by again the next time we're in Charleston! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Such a cute little coffee spot. Rustic, earthy and hip. Menus are placed in numerous spots for easy access and visibility--takes away the anxiety of ordering at a new spot. Staff was pleasant, easygoing and quite fast with whipping up our coffee, beer (yep, they have beer), tea and food order. We basically tried a bit of everything they had to offer! No complaints on our end. Who could? You're drinking great coffee, eating tasting pastries, people watching and sitting in the cutest outdoor southern charmed patio.

Yelp
I just had to jump on here real quick just so you could see the perfect cappuccino! God loves me!
google avatar

Yelp
Love this little cafe. It has a courtyard as well but weather was chilly so we stayed inside. Mimosa all day if that's your jam. I had hot matcha and vegan banana muffin and it's the best thing i've ever had.
google avatar

Gabriel M.

Yelp
I always enjoy coming here. Great tasting coffee and a very pleasant, calm place to sit outside in downtown Charleston. Always a pleasure
google avatar

Nathan P.

Yelp
Had an iced latte and it was very good, love a coffee shop that puts more espresso shots in as size of drink increases, so many just add more milk/ice. Wife had iced chai, she liked it very much as well. Good spot, nice patio with a fountain.

Melanie S.

Yelp
Best bagel I've ever had! Try the sea salt thyme bagel! They also had such a cute outdoor area and amazing coffee!

Yelp
I'm a little reluctant to spill the (coffee) beans about Kudu as it's such a great spot that I want to make sure I'll always be able to get a seat there! It's definitely my favorite coffee shop in Charleston. Situated just off King Street, it's in an interesting light filled building , and it had a big adjacent courtyard that you can sit in. The staff are really nice and friendly, it's a busy spot but they are also very efficient. The coffee is very good, they have a decent selection of pastries and some sandwiches, and they have craft beers on tap. Bonus points for being open 7-7, having two bathrooms, and reasonable prices!
google avatar

Gwen O.

Yelp
Sometimes it takes a long time but the coffee is super good and it's a chill place to do work too. They also have free honey and cinnamon.
google avatar

Dan D.

Yelp
Who knew the coffee scene in Charleston was this good? At $7 for a flavored oat milk latte, prices were in line with what I've come to expect these days. It was chill and low-key inside, where I whiled away an hour waiting for a plantation tour. They also had outdoor seating in a courtyard.
google avatar

Cheri C.

Yelp
Friendliest staff, fast service. The cappuccino was strong and smooth exactly how I like it. The quiche was yummy and extra cheesy. Soft crust. This place is one block away from King Street, kind of a hidden gem. You'll feel like you're a local when you go there.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Decent latte. Delicious poptart. Comfortable chairs/tables. Loved the outdoor patio. Staff were friendly and fast.
google avatar

Caroline B.

Yelp
Second day in a row going to this coffee shop and still very impressed! The coffee was great and the quiche was so yummy. Loved the latte art and the service was again great! Love the plants and outdoor lounge area this coffee shop has to offer!

Mike A.

Yelp
First time to Charleston and Kudu was a couple of blocks from our hotel. We start our day there. Most customers ordering coffee but we went straight for their beer and wine. Several beers on tap and loved them both.
google avatar

Cmo M.

Yelp
If you are staying at any of the hotels off of or close to King Street/downtown and you want a quick on the go breakfast/coffee/ place to chill in between the walking around, check out Kudu Coffee (off the corner of King & Vanderhorst). Take a break & treat yourself. Delicious quiche BTW. Dog friendly patio.

Yelp
I visited a number of coffee shops while in Charleston and this one was by far my favorite! I The espresso was good and they steamed my milk to perfection on my cappuccino. I'm not being dramatic. I could drink this cappuccino for days. The milk was so velvety. Very odd but it's going to haunt my dreams. The staff was knowledgeable and knew their stuff when it comes to their espresso and recommendations. The vibes are what you could expect. Nice and friendly. As for food, we had the ham and cheese croissant and the vegan banana nut bread. Wow. Both very good additions to have with your coffee. Next time i'm in town, I'm coming for you cappuccino.

Chad S.

Yelp
The service here is phenomenal and they really take care of you when you walk in the door. The ham and cheese croissant is awesome but it's really like breakfast and lunch combined in one dish so don't eat lunch the same day you order that. Coffee cake was rich and buttery. I ordered an iced coffee that was above average .
google avatar

Sabrina P.

Yelp
Nice find of a coffee shop in Charleston! I enjoyed my vanilla oat milk latte. Staff was friendly for the most part. A lot of seating and even an outdoor patio area. Great spot if you're in Charleston!
google avatar

Aminah K.

Yelp
My iced caramel latte and a bit bitter and the caramel had a weird taste. Not as smooth or creamy as I would of liked. Their outdoor patio was so cute!
google avatar

Yelp
Kudu Coffee and Craft Beer stands out in the heart of Charleston for its exceptional coffee, cozy atmosphere, and selection of craft beers. With its commitment to quality brews and a welcoming environment for both work and relaxation, Kudu is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Overall, it's a cherished spot for those in search of a great coffee experience and a pleasant place to unwind.
google avatar

Steve R.

Yelp
Great coffee and very friendly service. I look forward to returning and spending a little time there as the vibe was very cool as well.
google avatar

Mel T.

Yelp
Came in on a Saturday at 10 am and there were probably 4-5 people ahead of us. Not long after, the line was pretty much out the door. I had the nitro cold brew, which was pretty good - though not as creamy tasting as Starbuck's. I can't speak for the food, but the coffee was the perfect way to start our first day in Charleston! Too bad we didn't have time to come back and try the craft beer.
google avatar

Paulina T.

Yelp
Good vibes, their courtyard is a really great place to chill or hangout. Their chai is okay. It mostly tastes like milk not a lot of spice/tea. They'll ask if you want cinnamon on top--say yes, so you'll get the best flavor. Honey wheat bagel was good!
google avatar

Lorena G.

Yelp
One of the beat places that we visited every single morning while we were on vacation! A ton of coffee choices, teas, mimosas and local craft beer! Let's just say that we enjoyed a few breakfast beers! Haha! A truly nice human approached us and asked us if everything was great, and we answered YES! He asked if those were breakfast beers and we once again answered YES! We quickly clarified that we were on vacay and laughed it off. We proceeded to talk for quite a while about Charleston, southern charm, real estate and all the good food it has to offer. Turns out he was the owner and one of the nicest people we met. Gorgeous outside patio, nice interior and awesome drinks! Different choices of milk and really accommodating. It's super easy to walk to, right off King Street in the middle of all the action. GO RUN get a bfast beer!
google avatar

Santiago A.

Yelp
Coffee is great, great customer service, the place is well put together and the vibe is quite nice, very mix and nice. ONLY CON: no wifi, coffee joint with no wifi? A first
google avatar

Gerald N.

Yelp
Came on a weekend morning and there was no line when it opened. They have a nice outdoor seating area and very cool concept of beer and coffee. Had their vanilla cappuccino which was up to par and delicious. Wish I lived closer so I could come again!
google avatar

Austin S.

Yelp
Kudu Coffee & Craft Beer was my favorite coffee bar in Charleston. I had a double espresso which was great and my girlfriend got a latte which she also loved. I had a blue raspberry beer which was fun too and came out blue. I strongly recommend Kudu Coffee & Craft Beer!
google avatar

Caleb V.

Yelp
Greg coffee and a great atmosphere, fairly priced and right off King st! Definitely better than the hotel fare, we will be back.

Claire P.

Yelp
Fun environment and a great place to hang out. We sat at the bar and talked to the baristas who were very friendly and loved talking with us while they worked. There were people hanging out and talking, and others working on their laptops with headphones on. We got a plain cold brew, peppermint mocha, and a lavender vanilla latte. The cold brew was good (it's hard to mess up cold brew!), but the lattes were just okay. There was a little too much peppermint and not enough mocha in the peppermint mocha. And the latte flavors overall just tasted basic, sugary, and not very refined. Overall it was a great visit and I would go again!
google avatar

Amy Z.

Yelp
A cute coffee shop to rest your legs after walking through downtown Charleston. Their lovely & spacious courtyard transports you away from the hustle and bustle of King Street though it's just around the corner. Their coffee is bold and smooth, and served in huge beer mugs. Their delicious pastries make for good coffee accompaniment. If you prefer taking the coffee to go, Marion Square is just down the street.
google avatar

Doug W.

Yelp
Nice place, good coffee but no idea about the food they're serving specifically the croissants. 4 stars if there had been another shot in my Americano. The problem is with both the bakery that makes the croissants and Kudu. First, the bakery. The croissants we had were underbaked, improperly cooled and delivered covered. There's nothing flaky about them anymore. When you make them this big it's a problem you're not handling properly. Then there's Kudu. NEVER MICROWAVE A CROISSANT. Duh. Putting baked goods in a microwave ruins their texture. Do you even know what makes a great croissant ? Clearly no. Go across the street to the hotel and order one. Stop storing them in a covered tub. It's the same as wrapping a freshly baked baguette in plastic wrap. I don't know if it's the bakery and or Kudu but neither get it. Unfortunately, they have a number of misguided positive reviews for these from similarly clueless patrons. That's why I'm writing this. If you know what a croissant is, don't be misled by the reviews on Yelp.

Yelp
Great espresso and craft beer. Cute Charleston patio. Second time here. Jsjshsjjdjdjsjdh
google avatar

Adolfo B.

Yelp
They have coffee and beer. An awesome courtyard to relax by or take up a challenge with one of the chess players awaiting a match. The coffee is amazing and service is attentive. The beer selection is intentionally local and fits many diverse palates.
google avatar

Mark R.

Yelp
Pretty sure this was THE best cappuccino I've ever had outside of my own home...Italy, Austria, Hungary, wherever.
google avatar

Gab G.

Yelp
Didn't actually try the coffee, but I needed a quick breakfast-y snack and Kudu did the trick. The Ham and Swiss croissant was awesome and huge. They also heated it up, which I always appreciate. Tons of cute seating outside, too.
google avatar

Moani H.

Yelp
Came here by the suggestion of my sister who knows I love coffee and unique flavors in my coffee. She suggested the lavender latte -- so that's just what I got. We also like our coffee a little stronger than most -- I start my days with a double espresso and average have 3 to 4 shots throughout the day, so the waitress was very happy to put less milk and three shots. Coffee came out quickly. The latte was tasty and yummy! There's a good amount of seating and they also have beer! I really enjoyed the variety on their menu and it seems like a cool hang out spot. We were there in the morning and it was pretty packed so that spoke for its popularity.
google avatar

Lori J.

Yelp
Kudu is my fav. I used to work closer to the Starbucks and would go out of my way to come here. Wish they'd put another table in the courtyard since it's so nice there. Cool people work here and I don't even know any of them personally. Have to be careful I don't run into old college professors though
google avatar

Tom G.

Yelp
Eclectic little spot for coffee, beers and sandwiches in the College of Charleston area. Heard about this place for quite a while, but never made it in until recently. We met up with a friend for a quick late AM coffee. Although they had a nice selection of beers on tap and tasty looking sandwiches, we just had a coffee. They have a great variety of coffees and tea - something for everyone! Service was great and with a smile! Pricing is what you'd expect in downtown Charleston. Would definitely stop in here again rather than the international coffee giant down the road. Buy local.

Robin M.

Yelp
Delicious bagel and cappuccino. Both about $4.50 each. Really love the ambiance inside :) Great spot to work on your computer, just be aware they only have one outlet inside and one outside, also no wifi.
google avatar

Rachel F.

Yelp
I always had gone to City Lights Coffee in the past when visiting Charleston, so now that they've closed their location, I am so glad I branched out and found this wonderful café. Some of the best coffee I've ever had!
google avatar

Morgan M.

Yelp
If you're craving a croissant, this is your place. We have the ham and cheese croissant and the chocolate, both were amazing. The chocolate croissant however could use more chocolate. Chocolate to croissant ratio was off. The real reason I gave this company 1 star short of 5, was due to their incorrect cappuccino ratio. When you ask for a cappuccino and they ask you what size, instantly you know they don't know how to properly make one.

Sam Y.

Yelp
Good coffee and beer, what else could anyone desire. They have food, too. Plus great, friendly service.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Super cute place! Prices are what's expected, service has been good and they have the best hot chocolate I've ever had
google avatar

Ezen C.

Yelp
Everything you'd want in a coffee shop. Came here on a Sunday morning and we got the dirty chai and a coffee. I liked the chai, but personally thought the coffee was too bitter. Ordering and getting the drinks was quick and service was friendly. The place was pretty busy, but we managed to share a table with another patron sitting at a large table. There's a cute courtyard next door with ample seating. It was a chilly morning, so we opted to stay inside. There's also self service water as well as two bathrooms.
google avatar

Miriam W.

Yelp
Good coffee here, but the pastries need a little work. I got my usual cup o joe, and I'd return here for this; it's a good cup of coffee. The croissant I ordered hadn't been handled properly, and the texture was awful. Since croissants are, like, 90% about texture, I didn't even eat it. One bite told me all I needed to know. Since there's lots of great coffee available in the area, and much better pastry, I'll probably go elsewhere.
google avatar

Natalie F.

Yelp
Just ok. Stopped in around 8 am, only two people ahead of us. Service was cold, like the coffee. Unfortunately, staff wasn't very friendly. No hellos, smiles, none of that Southern Hospitality.... Maybe it was a one-off?! My fam & I ordered our drinks separately but when we met at the car we shared the same sentiments. Our latte's were warm, on the cold side, almost as if they were sitting for a good 15 minutes. Which they weren't. The taste of the coffee was good, but Meh on overall experience.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Recently we were at the children's museum for an event and I decided to take a walkabout to get some coffee; Kudu was the closest according to the handy dandy Yelp app. It's a really cute shop with a nice courtyard. Once inside I was greeted by the friendly barista. I ordered a large coffee and a small decaf; they didn't serve decaf, so I had to get an Americano decaf. That was cool and all, but when I was told my total was over $8 for these two coffees my mouth almost dropped; that was double the price of Starbucks with was only another block away. I believe in supporting the small businessman, but that was way overpriced. The americano decaf was like warm and not too good, and my coffee was average. It did look as if Kudu has a good selection of craft beers and the prices for those didn't appear too bad. I am willing to give them another chance on beer and food, but not the coffee.
