Seattle’s New Restaurant Openings

"A new restaurant serving Cambodian food and twists on Southeast Asian classics just opened in the heart of Georgetown, and there's a bánh mì smashburger involved. Kuma Kitchen’s menu also includes natang dip, garlic noodles, mango salad, and a few drinks. But it looks like the adjacent sister bar 1988 offers more options for beer, wine, and cocktails. We recently checked out Kuma Kitchen. Read our first thoughts on it here." - kayla sager riley, aimee rizzo, gabe guarente

Kuma Kitchen + Bar Review - Georgetown - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Amid all the old brick buildings and bars in Georgetown, the polished-looking Kuma Kitchen + Bar serves Cambodian dishes with a couple of twists—though they don’t always work. Their all-day menu includes a bánh mì smashburger involving shredded pickled vegetables on top of a beef patty with cheese. We don’t mind the tang of toppings, but the bland soft bun just makes us miss baguettes, and the chunky cucumber doesn’t add much. And while we really like their shoestring fries in fish sauce glaze, other appetizers like the oily natang dip and overly sweet mango salad can be skipped. The upside is that the dining room is chill enough during the afternoon (with jaunty Chappell Roan songs playing), so it’s not a bad place to order a strong Vietnamese iced coffee and get work done. You can always get a better banh mi at Voi Cà Phê down the block." - Gabe Guarente

Google
What a great place to get Pan Asian and Asian fusion food in Georgetown. A nice looking spot with decent seating and parking. The menu is huge with wide range of different. Tasty options. We got the enoki fritters which were amazing with their sauce. My favorite was the Tacos that we ordered which were so flavorful . My third favorite was the fish sauce wings, and my least favorite was the Smashburger. The cocktails were very delicious too. I highly recommend and would come back.

Google
Asian fusion with classics like Fried Rice and comfort blends like the Bahn Mi Smash Burger. Generally the food was great, the service was fast and friendly, and the value was good for a table service restaurant. Parking can be a bit of a challenge.

Google
Highly recommend. Went here with 2 of my girlfriends, and we are still talking about how good everything was 2 days later. The atmosphere is cute and modern. The service was excellent. Our waitress was so friendly, funny, and helpful when trying to decide what to order. The cocktails, we tried 4 different ones and each one was so good. You can't go wrong with any choices. As for the food.... WOW, just WOW. We started with the enoki mushrooms, brussel sprouts, and garlic green beans. They were all cooked perfectly and had great flavor! For the entrees, we ordered garlic noodles with chicken and the fried chicken sandwich. I personally had the chicken sandwich and shoestring fries, and I devoured it! So delicious and great flavor. I highly recommend stopping in for some delicious cocktails and food in a great location!

Google
This place was awesome! Starting with the cocktails, they were all great. The spicy tequila cocktail was one of the best I’ve had but the three I tried were excellent. The brussels sprouts were super good (2nd best I’ve had), the green beans were also super good and the wings were delicious. I got the steak sandwich and it was the most disappointing dish but that’s not saying much because it was still good. I feel it lacked a little flavor and the meat was a little too chewy. I also wasn’t crazy about the pork rolls. The chicken fried rice was also super good though. Oh and the fries came with an aoli that was really really good. Overall I really enjoyed my experience and would recommend checking it out.

Google
THIS PLACE IS THE BEST! stumbled upon this place and it did not disappoint! you must try their umami fries, calamari, and garlic noodles. everything was more than excellent. i am usually a picky eater who never finishes their food but my sister and i ate EVERYTHING.

Google
A wonderful place to eat. Great atmosphere and great drink menu. The service was friendly and helpful. You can tell this place was opened by people who love food and service. The fries are amazing, use the lime they give you. I had the tacos and they were delicious. The garlic noodles were delicious too.

Google
I was sad for a long time that Via Tribunali was no longer here. Not anymore! Kuma is a new fave spot. Flavors are on point, presentation is great, dishes are hearty in ingredients and portions. Nice people. Looking forward to the drinks next time. Get the egg roll salad (not spicy if you prefer or have kiddos). I like the garlic noodles with prawns.

Google
If you’re looking for some great Asian fusion food, this is the spot! The restaurant is well lit and spacious. I ordered the Banh Mi Smash Burger, and it was really good, full of flavor and tasted just like a Banh Mi. They also have some unique Asian-inspired drinks. Plus, if you’re in the mood for a nightcap, 1988 Bar is right next door.

Yelp
Delicious!!! We stopped in before heading to a show last night. Casual atmosphere, all ages. We had prompt & friendly service. We started out with Natang Dip & Umami Fries. This is a great combo. My son-in-law recommended that we dip fries in the Natang and it was a delicious option. Great flavor! We devoured it without a pic. I ordered the Peanut Noodle Salad. Fresh ingredients, light on protein, but filling none the less. I didn't realize there were Thai chilies until I ate one. Very spicy! Everything came out quick & had great flavors. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Our waiter was very nice, promptly refilled our water, and was attentive without being pushy. The ambiance is casual but they have a bar so I could see it becoming more formal for dinner settings. Food came out pretty quick! I absolutely love the fries and aioli. I'm not sure if the phone captured it properly but there were A LOT of fries. The fries were very very crunchy but not oily at all and well-seasoned, which paired perfectly with the aioli. The aioli itself was very creamy and we were given lots of it. For the main show, the burger, I also loved both the taste and texture. The patty was well-seasoned and had a slightly crisp to it. The vegetables had a crunch and made the burger feel fresh. I was a fan of how the tartness of the pickled vegetables parked with the saltiness of the patty. It's also a huge burger. I wasn't able to finish both the fries and burger so this will definitely fill you up if you're hungry! Overall, as a Vietnamese-American, I think it's a wonderful twist on Vietnamese and American flavors and I'm happy I got the opportunity to try something unique like this. Can't wait to be back :) P.S. Please consider adding a cheddar option instead of American cheese

Yelp
Soooo good! The enoki fritters were well seasoned, perfectly crispy, would definitely get this every time I go. The creamy udon had great flavor, fried tofu felt a bit plain flavor and seasoning wise. Bo kho tacos were solid as well. Honey bee cocktail was indeed spicy and packs a punch. Everything was well executed, service was fantastic, very friendly and attentive, would come again!

Yelp
This place is literally the best! Whole staff is fantastic and so is the delicious food. Shout out to Morgan for such a fun lunch haha. Anything you order drink wise is yummy but the lavender BG and shiso pretty is amazing. For food just order everything you can stomach cus it does not disappoint.

Yelp
Came here again recently and I have the same feelings. I think this is a solid place to dine a seems locally or family owned. Service was not lacking. Well seasoned food. Not much else on the menu really interests me to go again anytime soon, but they do have very solid offerings that seem pretty cohesive to me to be on the same menu. It would make a great date night spot because it's clean and aesthetic without being too expensive. I'd love to come back and just drink a few drinks with an appetizer or two.

Yelp
Kuma Kitchen is excellent! I was lucky enough to visit during their soft opening and I will be visiting again soon. I had their bahn mi burger along with the lavendar BG cocktail. The burger was great and the drink was super tasty and sweet which is exactly what I wanted. The server was very knowledgeable with their suggestions as well. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
We made the mistake of eating somewhere else before checking out this new spot. The owners were behind the bar and coming out from the kitchen to chat with customers. They are so friendly and the cocktails were innovative and well balanced. We loved everything we tried. We can't wait to come back on an empty stomach to devour all that delicious food that was coming out of the kitchen. The chef shared with us that they make their own chili oil with lemongrass! Omg! I can't wait to try this! We loved it so much we left Kuma and went next door to their sister cocktail bar 1988 to indulge in more of their offerings.

Yelp
Kuma Kitchen is a nice addition to Georgetown. It's spacious and clean, the service is great, and I've enjoyed the food that I've tried to date. One thing to note is that they have been adjusting or rotate their menu, so not everything mentioned on Yelp was on the menu. The Banh Mi Smashburger and Bo Kho tacos both tasted like what I expected, so if you're a fan of Banh Mi or Bo Kho - you won't be disappointed. The Lychee tea tasted watered down, so I would skip their drinks next time. Their menu is on the pricey side, but I would consider coming back for their unique dishes.

Yelp
Mango salad was so delicious...fresh, herby, spicy. My drink was perfect...shisho pretty with yuzu, cucumber and shiso. Service couldn't have been better!! First night in Seattle and we will be back!!

Angel A.

Yelp
Service was very slow. Waited almost an hour before we decided to get up and leave because we didn't get our food. We only ordered 2 sandwiches and they were not that busy. People there already had their food when we arrived.

Yelp
I had a great time! I didn't realize Kuma's Kitchen was already open! I tried the Weasley cocktail and it was delicious! I also got the crispy chicken sandwiches and they were quite fantastic as well! The chicken was coated in a deliciously halfway sweet sauce and the Weasley cocktail had whiskey and ginger! Everyone seemed so nice and happy to have my dine with them. I'm excited to come back and show my friends and try more dishes! I liked the atmosphere as well! It is modern and clean, yet still has Seattle character!

Yelp
New restaurant that opened up in Georgetown! Right next to 1988 and across from matcha man, Kuma adds a lot of variety to the already diverse and amazing area. I can see this place pop off. Drinks are amazing, food is amazing, and service is amazing. We had the natang dip, banh mi smash, and garlic shrimp noodles. Oh boy, those dishes alone are great but these guys def put their own spin to this. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The food here is fantastic. Beautifully seasoned, elevated favorites that still feel like comfort food. The service was 10/10 - nicest people and quick with bringing out the orders. We had the banh mi smash burger, beef pho and fried rice. All stellar, all things I'd return for. We loved the coziness and welcoming space that is this cafe. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I had lunch at this newer spot today in Georgetown and it may be my current favorite. I am a regular in this area so always interested in what's new. The food and vibe here was great and I can't wait to go back to try more. We had the Natang dip which was spicy for me but very good so I kept eating. Then we both had the Smash Cheeseburger which has a Vietnamese twist to it and very good. However I did see some more traditional Vietnamese dishes go by that looked amazing so I will go back very soon.

Yelp
We have been to Kuma Kitchen multiple times since they've opened. We love their cocktails - they have a variety of drinks that are creative and taste amazing. We have had their pho, udon and papaya salad entrees and they are all great! The service is also excellent and we love the ambiance. Would recommend to anyone who wants a relaxed and refined night out somewhere

Yelp
Excellent food, service, and fun atmosphere. Fantastic mix of umami, sweet, and savory. Had the Bahn Mi burger, fries, enoki, and calamari. Will have all of them again for sure.

Isabella R.

Yelp
The food and cocktails were SO good. The service was very fast and our servers were super attentive. I ordered a dish that unfortunately contained an ingredient that I was allergic to, but I was quickly brought a new dish free-of-charge. Overall, it was a very friendly and comfortable environment, with a very cute aesthetic and I would definitely eat here again.

Yelp
Came in for the first time for lunch. Really love this place as it is very inviting and charming. Ordered the bahn mi smash burger and the Bho ko tacos. The smash burger was super good as it mixes Vietnamese flavors of pickled veggies with the burger. Who would have thought the mix of flavors would be so good. Same with tacos the pho like dip for the tacos made it so comforting to eat. Service was excellent too as wanted to know more about food items as they are innovative. You can tell they are really attentive to their customers. Will be back soon to try more menu items like the creamy udon.

Yelp
Very fun spot with great service and good food. Interesting menu with Asian fusion. Also $5 beers on tap. Good selection.

Yelp
I don't eat out often so this was a treat. So happy to have this place in our neighborhood! The food was good. I like the green beans, udon noodles, and the eggroll salad. Even though I didn't order the udon noodles, a few bites made me want to order my own! Left very satisfied.

Yelp
Wish I could give 10 stars! I hesitate to give this review because I feel like I want to keep it for myself! We met a friend here to surprise him on his birthday. He was surprised and moved by the amazing staff. They made it such a special day for him. I had the udon with pork and it was sooooooo good that I didn't want to share. The others had tacos, pho and garlic noodles and of course, the garlic green beans!!! Everything came out steaming hot and delicious! We are already talking about our next visit. We will be back for sure! The parking can be tough but totally worth it! Thank you for such a lovely and tasty experience! Your customer service made us all feel like family. It is nice to see some diversity in my favorite foodie hotspot!

Yelp
Delicious southeast Asian spot in Georgetown. Good selection of local beers on tap, legit bar set up, and of course the food! We got the Natang Dip, mango salad, and banh mi smash burger. Everything was delicious, fresh tasting, and pretty good portion size for the price. We will def come back next time we are in the area!

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
Wanted to order everything! Got the fries, salad, tacos, and smashburger. Ordered Vietnamese coffee with egg crème (yum!). Very attentive staff. Delicious food.

Manka M. V.

Yelp
Kuma is spectacular. We have been there twice and loved it each time. All their dishes are great and they may have the best fries but I would not recommend the burger.
google avatar

Mark R.

Yelp
Just back from our first time at Kuma, and it was Stellar! The food was so delicious. We got the Umami Fries (must have), Honey Sriracha Brussels sprouts , and the yummy Garlic Noodles. For drinks, I got the XOXO, Andi and my partner got the Lavender BG, both of which exceeded our expectations. The space is super cute and comfortable, the service was just right, and I cannot wait to go back. They've also got a sister bar, 1988, next door with more drinks and partial Kuma menu. Georgetown has a lot of great food and Kuma is a worthy addition. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I was looking for a quick bite in Georgetown when I stumble upon this hidden gem. The relaxed ambience of this place is definitely what's missing in Georgetown. I got the beef Pho, egg rolls, and banh mi burger. Everything was delicious. The food came out quick and the staff were super nice to help explain any questions I have regarding the menu. I would definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
A gem... still in soft open status, apparently without the "full" menu. You'd never know - perhaps a somewhat limited menu. What we had was great, unique and varied. We had the Natand Dip and the Bo Ne - both highly recommended.

Diane T.

Yelp
We've been twice so far, and have tried 2 different entrees and 3 appetizers between those visits. Everything was amazing! Cocktails were great too. We will definitely be returning.

LaTosha B.

Yelp
First time at Kuma and they did not disappoint. The chicken sliders were fabulous. Crispy with the sweet taste of Thai garlic. The cabbage and shredded carrots went perfectly with the flavors. The shoestring fries were good as well. My only regret is not having enough to share with everyone at work. This is definitely going to be a Georgetown gem.

Andrea A.

Yelp
Cute new place in Georgetown with Asian-fusion food. I had the garlic noodles with chicken katsu and my husband had the pho. We were starving so I didn't think to take a photo of the food, but everything was delicious. We'll definitely come back!
google avatar

Vi N.

Yelp
A great new spot to get lunch at in Georgetown!! The dishes were fresh and full of flavor. It's been awhile since I've had prawn fried rice that good. And the enoki mushroom fritters are going to be my new guilty pleasure. My coworkers also really enjoyed their dishes. I can't wait to bring more people in to try the Asian fusion inspired menu. Service was quick and friendly with great ambiance.

Laura S.

Yelp
Amazing food, super friendly service and team, tasty cocktails- will be back for sure. Can't wait to eat our way through the menu!

Scheer C.

Yelp
This place really deserves its 5-stars! My kids adore this place and EVERY dish doesn't disappoint. Even something as simple as crispy pork rolls and fried rice is at a high level for such a staple dish. The drinks are also fabulous. I wish this place ongoing success. This will be a standard destination for us whenever we're in south Seattle.

Jay C.

Yelp
Absolutely great new addition to Georgetown. Wow. A delicious Asian fusion menu with fantastic cocktails and a great 12 tap beer selection. Super friendly and professional staff and a great decor and vibe. They have dishes on the menu I have never seen before I had the bahn mi smash burger and that was a surprise and just fantastic. Every element executed perfectly. Honestly gourmet. And the shoestring fries with the yuzu aioli were the best fries I've had in memory. This would be a great place for a date or for a quick and delicious dinner. Strong 5 star recommend!!
