The Best Romantic Restaurants in Denver, Colorado | Eater Denver

"Everybody looks good in the glow of the chandeliers that dot this urbane Japanese eatery and its adjacent bar, so it’s a sure bet for making a positive impression on a promising date. And the food and drinks are just as comely: In addition to fabulous sushi like the spicy scallop-tempura asparagus roll, split the toro tartare with miso mustard and the chicken katsu sando while sipping sophisticated cocktails accented with the colorful likes of cherry blossom and pandan leaf." - Ruth Tobias

The Hottest Restaurants in Denver Right Now, Winter 2024

"The Culinary Creative Group’s latest venture marks the triumphant return of chef Corey Baker to a prominent place in the Denver dining scene after a few-year hiatus. In an urbane, dramatically lit LoHi space, he and his team are turning out not only the meticulously conceived sushi and sashimi for which he’s long been known but also all manner of Japanese plates that merit exploration, including luscious miso-broiled eggplant topped with bubu arare and a delightful sando of fried pork, Napa cabbage, Asian pear, and curry aioli on milk bread. (Head to the adjacent Bar Kumo for a nightcap, and a whole other menu awaits, complete with curry udon and Spam musubi.)" - Eater Staff

Kumoya Review - Lohi - Denver - The Infatuation

"It might seem like the gold-flecked, caviar-topped toro tartare (and other similarly extravagant dishes) are the main draw at Kumoya. But really, we find that we can’t stop thinking about the not-as-flashy plate of miso eggplant that’s broiled, topped with little puffed rice spheres, and tastes just as decadent as that gold toro. Pull up a stool at the sushi counter to watch the slicing and dicing, and be sure to come back later to spend some time at the attached Bar Kumo. The late-night menu of udon noodles and katsu curry bowl, not to mention cocktails with mushroom rum, shoyu, and sesame, are worth checking out." - Allyson Reedy

My friend and I had the BEST dining experience here!!!! We were visiting Denver and decided to try Kumoya for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised by the Ambience, Service and the Food tasted Delicious. The ambience is gorgeous inside and I loved the Greeting since I entered the restaurant. Everyone is very polite with a warm smile and the service was Exceptional that truly felt like you were taken care of every minute of your dining experience. and Lastly the Food just melted in my mouth. The flavors were spot on. Overall an amazing experience for sushi lovers. I will definitely be back and highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice dress-up dinner spot in town.

Best sushi I’ve ever had and the appetizers and drinks were truly spectacular. In the running for best meals of my life. Wes (GM) is the nicest guy and was visiting with every table in the restaurant. Our waitress, Kaden(?), was amazing too and spent lots of time helping us order. You’ll definitely feel taken care of here. Every staff member had a smile on their face and treated everyone like family. You just have to try this place for yourself if you’re in or near Denver.

Food: 4/5 Atmosphere & Ambience: 5/5 We came specifically for the happy hour, which runs from 5 to 7 PM but is only available at the bar. We were initially seated at a regular table and only found out about the bar-only restriction after asking. Fortunately, they were able to reseat us at the bar. I would have rated this place 4 stars, but I’m docking a star due to their pricing practices. A mandatory 20% service fee is added to the bill, which feels excessive given the already high menu prices. It’s unclear whether we’re still expected to tip on top of that—and we did, so we essentially paid 40% more. What really soured the experience was how they handle happy hour pricing. They advertise 30% off, but list the original (non-discounted) prices on the menu, then apply the 20% service fee based on those original prices—not the discounted ones. For example, instead of simply listing a $20 item as $14, they show the $20 price and apply the discount at the end. This allows them to calculate the service fee off the higher amount. It feels deliberately confusing and a bit shady.

My friend and I had an AMAZING dining experience here!!!! I’ve gone by it multiple times and always thought it looked so cool then randomly last Saturday we decided to eat dinner here and it turned out to be the best little accident!! First of all it’s gorgeous inside I love a nice atmosphere. Secondly the service was EXCEPTIONAL we truly felt like queens there and thirdly the food is incredible! So yummy :)) it made me happy that they were on restaurant week since I thought I’d not get the chance to experience it. I will def be back and highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice cute vibey spot.

Delicious food, we had the Shake Roll, Spicy tuna roll, and different Nigiri. The manager and server were very attentive and friendly! I would definitely recommend 10/10! We had a blast celebrating mother's day here 🥰

Google
The ambiance and service at this place are 12/10 and absolutely fantastic. Had major NYC vibes it’s absolutely stunning inside. Unfortunately the food was underwhelming. We have eaten all over and have had fantastic sushi experiences in denver. Although the presentation was beautiful, The food here was under-seasoned, lacking intentional flavor and the fish was not as fresh as i’d expect for the price. Unfortunate because this place would have become a regular spot for us we just absolutely loved the atmosphere. The drinks were really good and we would likely return to the bar. We wish the sushi was more interesting with more intentionally curated flavors.

Google
We love Kumoya! We’ve gone more than a few times and we’re always blown away by the food and service. We sat at the sushi bar for the first time last night and enjoyed 30% off all of their rolls during happy hour. The fish quality is up there with some of the best in denver, and the chefs are so talented at what they do. Always friendly service - from the hosts, to the waiters, to the chefs. This restaurant is a must if you love sushi - especially sashimi and nigiri.

Google
this just became my favorite restaurant in denver. it’s perfect. no notes. the food was INSANELY good. also the vibes, music and staff were so friendly we were blown away.

Yelp
Kumoya was an absolute delight to dine at! The service was impeccable, and the food was even better. I made a reservation for three of us on a Friday night, and the experience far exceeded my expectations. The eggplant and pork belly were standout dishes--perfectly juicy and tender. We also enjoyed the rolls, opting for the yellowtail and spicy tuna, paired with a unique wasabi flight. The variety in the wasabi flight added such a beautiful touch to the rolls. I highly recommend trying the pickled wasabi--it's a must if you're ordering sushi here. For dessert, we had the amakaze, which was a stunning and creative blend of flavors. I highly recommend Kumoya for an exceptional dinner experience!

Yelp
A tradition my friend group has is to get sushi whenever someone is in the town and we made it a priority to try somewhere new versus visiting our usual haunts. Kumoya has been on the list and we were excited. One of our party was on crutches and the entire staff was very helpful with navigating the restaurant floor. The day we went was the day after they had changed their menu and the manager personally touched base with us. What struck me was the many omakase options compared to the traditional sense of an omakase where the chef picked it for you. I got the 12 nigiri piece omakase. I was surprised that all 12 pieces came out at once, which didn't help me pace me eating the nigiri as I have no self control. For the appetizers, we ordered the karaage, pickled vegetables, and roasted eggplant. The karaage was not the usual double fried and had a lighter fry coating. The pickled vegetables included carrots, cucumber, and beets, which were nice to cleanse the palette. The standout was the roasted eggplant with the crunchy bits on top. I will say that the only downside of the roasted eggplant was that it was very hard to eat, with the small wooden spoons they gave us and using it to scoop out the roasted eggplant flesh. In terms of the sushi, the fish itself was great. The reason I am only rating 3 of 5 was the sushi rice. It was too al dente and wasn't seasoned as heavily as other sushi rice I had - there wasn't the chewiness and bounce I usually associated with sushi rice. One specific dish I want to give a shout out to that I have never seen is their wasabi sampler, which included real wasabi from the wasabi root (hard to find, very expensive) and pickled/fermented wasabi root. I really loved the pickled/fermented wasabi root condiment, which was great to add to the nigiri. Lastly, their non-alcoholic drinks were phenomenal. Overall, the sushi from Kumoya was okay and the apps/drinks stood out to me more than the fish preparations.

Yelp
Kumoya offers a unique and upscale dining experience in Denver, with a great vibe and solid service. Our lead server was fantastic--attentive, knowledgeable, and made sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant itself is huge, split into three distinct sections. The first is bright and classy, while the second has a more dim, sexy vibe, perfect for a late-night outing or weekend kickoff, there was also a dj set in the room. This area is also connected to the Kumoya bar, which adds to the ambiance. As for the food, the toro tartare was definitely the highlight of the meal. It was buttery, melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and the fried seaweed to scoop onto added a nice crispy bite. The wagyu tartare was good but didn't stand out as much. The toasted bread and yolk were a nice touch, but it didn't quite compare to the toro. Sadly, the pork belly was a letdown. The slices were too thick and tough to bite into, and I couldn't really taste the sweet ginger soy. The kabocha foam it came with didn't complement the dish as well as I had hoped. The sashimi and nigiri were good, but the portion sizes felt a bit small for the price. While the vibe and service were great, I do think it's a little overpriced for what you get. That said, I would come back to try more items and see if other dishes fare better. Definitely worth a visit, but with some room for improvement. If I could I would give this place a 3.5 star rating.

Yelp
This is a super fun take on a Japanese eatery that serves both sushi and other Izakaya style appetizers with a cool vibe that has several different rooms depending on what kind of scene you're looking for. We got the spicy scallop roll which had a nice combination of flavors, the chicken karaage was pretty good and the sando was amazing. My only gripe is that the final bill just felt way too high considering what we ordered. I would love to come back to a place like this regularly, but it really is just for special occasions at this point.

Yelp
This place was aaaaaamazing! I havent really been impressed with sushi in denver, but this place definitely impressed me. To start off, their service was fantastic. I made a reservation for the wrong date, showed up, and they were able to get us seated at 9:15 even though the kitchen closes at 9:30. They then moved us to the lounge area for the midnight snacks and DJ. It was beyond fantastic service thanks to Wes, the geneneral manager. He told us not to rush and told us the kitchen knew we were there so we can take our time to order. Our server was also very good vibes, fun, and checked up on us a lot. The food was really good, definitely pricey, but I think worth the money because of superv service as well. The decor was super cute. The drinks were all good. Very light and refreshing flavors, the Hanna was my favorite drink.

Yelp
Kumoya is the cutest little spot nestled in the LoHi neighborhood, and it's quickly become a new favorite! We hit up this cozy restaurant for dinner around 6:30 PM, and even though it was quiet with just a few tables occupied, the vibe was perfect for a relaxing meal. Parking was a breeze for us--we found a spot right in front of the restaurant, but I could see it being trickier if things got busier. Now, let's talk food, because it was amazing. We went for a mix of appetizers and sushi, and everything was on point. The sushi was divine, seriously on par with the quality and innovation you'd find at Uchi. The Uni nigiri was my personal favorite--so fresh and sweet! But let's be real, the appetizers stole the show. They're served tapas-style, and our waitress recommended three for the two of us, which turned out to be perfect. I honestly can't pick a favorite because each one was a hit. First up, the wagyu tartar came with lightly toasted and buttered Japanese milk bread. The portion was generous, and I could have easily eaten just that and been totally satisfied. Next, the prawns were an absolute delight. The fried shrimp heads? Crispy perfection. I loved how they peeled the shrimp heads, making them super easy to eat. Last but not least, the eggplant dish is a must-try. The savory eggplant topped with flavorful miso and crispy rice was an umami explosion in every bite. Kumoya is perfect for a date night or a girls' night out. I noticed they have a late-night menu, and now I'm seriously wishing I lived closer so I could pop in after hours.

Yelp
I've been here three times and finally, we sat at the bar. While I can't say we paid too much attention to it, it was fun to see the prep. The service was relaxed, not rushed like most places in the US, we could enjoy our food and each other's company. I can't eat sushi anywhere else after coming here. Everything is just so fresh and elegant. You taste the fish and how it's paired is beautiful and complimentary. The drinks are great, the desert was amazing, and I don't have a sweet tooth.

Yelp
Okayyyyy wow. The vibes here were immaculate, the drinks spectacular and the SUSHHH phenomenal. This may be my new favorite sushi spot in Denver. Our server was so sweet and gave amazing drink and menu recommendations. Some of my favorites that need a shoutout: the toro tartare...one of the best starters I've had. It was so fresh and the flavor was amazing. The salmon tartare roll is now Derek's favorite sushi roll he's ever had. The snap pea drink was so good we ordered FOUR. I've already texted my friends and we will be coming back!

Yelp
I am obsessed! My fiancée and I came as a special date night treat, and we were so impressed with our experience here. We were able to make a reservation the day before to sit at the sushi bar (all tables were booked!), but we really enjoyed it because we could see some of the sushi chefs making the dishes. One of the first things we noticed was how happy everyone who worked there seemed. They were all joking with each other and seemed like genuinely happy people! Someone who appeared to be the manager also made sure to stop by every table to chat and help pour drinks and clean plates. Having a great working environment for the staff really makes a difference on customers' experiences! We started off with a bottle of sake and their wagyu tartare with Japanese milk toast. It was such a wonderful blend of flavor and texture between the crunchy toast and tartare. The milk toast sometimes overpowered the tartare taste, so I would recommend trying some of the Wagyu tartare by itself to really appreciate its incredible flavor. We then ordered two rolls - the yellowtail and the salmon tartare roll. That salmon tartare roll was IT for me. I felt like that first bite took me into a different world. The avocado added a subtle creaminess that really brought out the taste of the salmon, and the masago and cilantro pieces were perfect additions. Even though we were already full, we knew we had to order dessert after hearing that they had an in-house pastry chef. We ordered the Amazake and devoured every piece up. The blend between the creamy rice ice cream and pistachio purée, the light crunch of the aerated white chocolate matcha, and the moist pandan sponge cake was absolute perfection. I've never had a dessert like this before, and I'm so glad that we decided to try it. I've already told so many friends and family about this delicious restaurant and will be bringing visiting guests here in the future!

Yelp
Kumoya is a beautiful restaurant in the Lower Highlands (LoHi) area. My first impression was "anyone with a date to impress and wants sushi should bring them here". The ambiance is stunning. I really wish I checked out their cocktail lounge in the back. It sounds like a great place to take your date or few friends to have some sushi, drinks, and a good time. The food was delicious although definitely on the expensive side. If you are hungry and want a filling meal with a drink, expect to pay $100+ per person. I would highly recommend the salmon tartare roll. I'm usually not a fan of rolls especially at nicer sushi restaurants, but that one is fantastic. Service was excellent as well. We never had to wait on water, ordering anything, etc. There is not much else to say here. I normally have a thing against mandatory 20% tipping on bills, but when the service is this good, it just makes sense. Overall, I would recommend Kumoya to anyone looking for great sushi at a beautiful place and price is not too much of a barrier.

Yelp
Came here for a date night & had so much fun! they announce you when you are walked to your table, as well as when you leave, which I think is part of the tradition. The food is good & the cocktails are fun as well. This place's style is very clean & modern - a stark contrast from the old Tony P's space it used to be. I was very impressed by the transformation.

Yelp
The skinny: Sushi & cocktails were absolutely delicious. Phenomenal experience - just be prepared for a hefty price tag. The overview: We came here for a joint birthday celebration and decided to go for the omakase. They had a few options where you could tell them what kind of food you liked (we opted for mostly raw & called out that we for sure wanted some uni and hotate) & what your per person price point was. This was a great experience since we got to try a whole lot of dishes we might not have typically ordered while still getting some of our favorites. They were super knowledgable and easy to work with. The food: Standout nigiri: Basically all the nigiri we had was amazingly fresh - with unique touches that really brought the flavor of the fish out. Favorites were definitely uni (some of the best we've had in den), king salmon toro (melt in your mouth). Cooked dishes: Egg plant (a surprise favorite - melty savory goodness), tempura mushrooms (in a delicious sauce you wanted to lick afterwards). The hamachi was good but nothing that blew me away (wasn't as fatty as I would have liked and a little dry at parts) Drinks: Every single cocktail we had was delicious and way too easy to drink. Loved the Hana & Endo Cost/Value: $$$$ This place is what you would expect of an upscale sushi restaurant - so get ready to throw down some money. But all amazing quality food. If they still are working with inKind - you can pay through that app and get a % back in credit (and they are doing a deal on their website where you get $50 off $150). It was such a good deal we thought it was fake at first. I will say compared to Uchi, the quality was pretty comparable, but that Uchi normally sends a few free items your way. We were a little surprised we didn't get anything (even a small item like a chocolate covered strawberry) free given that we were there celebrating 3 birthdays. Something I normally expect from higher end places. Would I come back: 100%. Adding this to my list of super fresh sushi spots and fun date nights. Plus the discount via the inKind app does make a difference.

Yelp
The food and staff get 4 stars! The price well...be ready to walk out with a $200 or more bill. The sushi was delicious and the freshest we have had while living in Denver. Dare I say it compares with one of my favorite sushi's restaurants in Chicago from a quality perspective. The ambience is nice for a date night if you sit in the back area. If you want a more casual or maybe a business dinner I would suggest getting a table up front. The staff is definitely on top of things... our waitress check in on us multiple times as well as a manager. The location is a prime spot in the Highlands area. Due to the prices we needed up grabbing a drink after at another restaurant close by. Again, the food is amazing and the staff is attentive but it was a bit too expensive for what you get.

Yelp
I had a really lovely dinner with friends here Friday night. Although I live close by, I hadn't been in since it was Tony P's and they have made some really incredible renovations. I loved the decor and the bar- also the fact that they somehow got the pizza/bar smell out- lol. The service was friendly and our order came out accurately, but it wasn't speedy. Honestly that was okay- it was about luxuriating and enjoying the experience, not shoveling the meal in and getting out so they could re-seat the table. The cocktails were all yummy- I had 2 of the ones with the yuzo, a fantastic recommendation from our server. We started with the tuna tartare and the tofu. Both were delicious- the broth on the tofu was rich and full of flavor and we all enjoyed the tuna. We shared the salmon tartare, yellowtail rolls and scallop rolls as well and the eel. Everyone's favorite was the scallop, hands down. I was particularly surprised by this because I don't ordinarily care for scallops, but these were outstanding. Everything was quite tasty though, and I look forward to my next visit!

Yelp
This sushi restaurant blew me away. The restaurant is small yet cozy, sophisticated, and elegant. My friend and I sat at the sushi bar, and it was like watching an artist take a beautiful picture. The amount of care and attention to detail the chefs put into the entrées and the preparation is stunning. My friend and I got the Chef Select 18-piece sashimi, hands-down the sushi I have had in Denver. Everything was so fresh. We also got the spicy tuna roll, which was fantastic. To drink, we tried the agave and the coffee. Both drinks were terrific. I got the coffee, but I get the agave next time. It is their take on a margarita. Overall, this is one of my best dining experiences, and I will return.

Yelp
We don't like to be the last minute late night customers but as tourists in the area we had no choice but to. So glad we did! Last customers on a Sunday night. The bar side was open and to our surprise we were greeted with open arms. Our server Kayden was super nice and quick to recommend the bar menu. This is a perfect date night vibe. The atmosphere and ambiance is elegant, romantic and fun. Great for dinner party's as well. Kudos to the chef Corey Baker (wish we got to meet him) the food is on par with author Japanese food. As soon as we tasted the curry it immediately brought us back to our time spent in Japan. The wagyu reminded us of Osaka nights. The curry was just as tasty as the Tokyo version we had. Truly amazing flavor profiles. I hope we get to come back and try the full menu on the restaurant side. We are truly grateful they are open late Sunday nights.

Yelp
Best sushi in Denver and probably the best sushi I have ever had. The staff is incredible and everyone truly understands the dishes. Beautiful environment, perfect for a date night. I definitely recommend eating at the sushi bar because the chefs are truly incredible to watch. 10000000/10!!!

Yelp
Kumoya brings a beautiful, upscale sushi destination to Denver -- on par with the famous Matsuhisa, but with much better service. The only reason I give it 4 and not 5 stars, is that I doubt I'll be able to afford to come here very often. Having spent about $500 per couple here -- I will probably continue being a regular at Uchi for now. The space is beautiful (with two very different kinds of rooms). One side is brighter and more casual. The other side is dimmer and more romantic -- and I think they have late-night DJs there, too, which seems pretty cool. The food is delicious -- although our favorite bite was probably the broiled eggplant -- which is ironic for a sushi place. The sushi was fresh and delicious, but more on the traditional side -- so not necessarily MORE memorable than other upscale sushi spots we've been to. The 18-piece sashimi chef's selection was $125, the 4-piece dry-aged toro $72, and the wasabi sampler $17 -- so make what you will of that...

Chip M.

Yelp
Great sushi, extensive menu. We are not snobs... but for an automatic 20% service charge, the service should be a lot better! Other than water, We were ignored after salad and sushi were brought. This is a top-dollar place. More attention should be paid on the service in the dining room.

Yelp
Creative dishes where you can tell they use high quality ingredients! Great ambiance and attentive service, lovely for an upscale date or girl's night.

Yelp
Food: Everything we got was truly phenomenal. Cooked to perfection. And made with love (1) Hotate. One smaller scallop, seared, in a yummy sauce. Delicious but overpriced for what it was in my opinion $16 (2) Nasu Misoyaki (Miso Eggplant). So delicious. Had a fun texture on the top that made it stand out. (3) Agedashi Tofu. Very good and what I expected which is not a bad thing at all. Could have used a pinch more flavor in my opinion, but still would get again (4) Kinoko (mushrooms). Too die for. So damn good. Delicious sauce and marinated. (5) Bluefin ortoro nigiri. Melt in your mouth. Cheaper price than I've been elsewhere which is surprising because everything else was more expensive. (6) lots of sake and all was yummy! (7) other random nigiri and all was super fresh! The most surprising to me was the young yellowtail. Super good. Service: Wonderful! Zero complaints. Ambience: Really cute. Great lighting. Beautiful decor. Honestly everything was perfect. The only complaint I have is that it was just as fresh as Uchi but about 30% more in pricing (did the math) for the same fullness (or maybe a little less). Once I realized this, it made it hard want to come back over Uchi but anyone that wants to go there, I'm 100% in!

Yelp
We had a great time at this place. The sushi was delicious. Service was good too. The restaurant was huge! I was very surprised about how big the space was. It had two bars! The decor was fun and each room was very different. Very dark but we were able to change the lighting at our table just by touching the lamp. The small font menu was still hard to read but that's what iPhone flashlights and reading glasses are for, right?

Yelp
Rated at 4.5 stars rounding up to a 5. Kumoya is a modern addition to the highland area. The restaurant has a captivating ambiance and interior design that is very unique. The space is divided into a couple of rooms that are very distinct with their own character but still maintain a cohesive overall feel. We started with the aloe and brine cocktails which were creative renditions of a spicy margarita and a martini. I loved the aloe (margarita) drink. It had fresh ingredients and I ended up ordering a second. My boyfriend found the martini too sweet for his taste. I actually did enjoy the subtle sweetness in it but it did depart from the dryness in a typical martini. For food, we tried the house pickles and the eggplant from the main menu, both of which were very delicious. The eggplant was super unique and I've never had anything quite like it. It had small crunchy pearls on it, not sure what they were but it was such a fun texture with the soft eggplant. We also ordered a ton of nigiri. All the fish was super fresh but perhaps slightly lacking in flavor. The addition of the wasabi flight was a gamechanger, I would recommend adding that if you like wasabi. I found the prices to be slightly higher compared to my other favorite sushi spots in the city, so that's my only reason for 4.5 instead of 5. The service was commendable, with our server consistently checking on us, and attentive staff filling waters and clearing empty plates. Overall, it was a really good experience and I definitely will return, especially to check out the nightlife scene! My

Yelp
Fantastic, new, trendy sushi spot! The vibes here are awesome with great decor, a smooth playlist, and a really cool sushi bar and back bar for drinks. The drink menu is solid, with a great lineup of sakes and whiskeys. Food wise, they have a solid lineup of sushi and nigiri with super fresh fish. They also have solid, non fish options like a really great duck and soba noodles dish.

Yelp
We visited on a Sunday around 5:30; I made a reservation on open table about an hour before our arrival but the place was quiet and it probably have been easy to secure a table or spot at the bar upon arrival. Staff was immediately knowledgable and accommodating about gluten intolerance and celiac. No soft shell crab or spicy tuna for celiacs! I was given tamari almost immediately. We started with drinks; the endo (refreshing, smokey, light vegetable sweetness) and takai (light, refreshing, tangy). We got the tsukemono "pickled veggies"; staff separated the daikon / carrot combo from the cucumber d/t soy sauce drenching of cucumber and all the veggies were exactly the cool, refreshing bites we needed. We next got the salmon tartare rolls and spicy scallop rolls and MAN. Those took the cake. The staff had to make the spicy scallop rolls GF by subbing tempura asparagus with regular asparagus -- our waitress knew to do that without me even requesting after I let her know about my celiac diagnosis. Such incredible service. We got the yakitori kushiyaki (chicken; wagyu can't be made GF) and it was absolutely delightful. My boyfriend had the wagyu nagiri and said "that was the best thing I ever had in my entire life... it's subtle but rich; the flavor was crazy". It was a one bite piece so heads up on that if you're getting one. I got the yellowtail rolls next, they were alright but everything was going to pale next to the salmon tartare. Speaking of, finished the night off with another salmon tartare roll because why not! Easily best sushi I've ever had. We did agree that the spicy scallop / salmon tartare combo was top notch though. My boyfriend also enjoyed the Umami following his Wagyu (excellent combo he says). The staff was honestly excellent. Our server Kayden G was absolutely wonderful. Wes, the GM, was top notch. Teyo, the expo, was also incredible. Everyone was timely, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and insightful. We received such excellent service. Like other reviews say, plan to pay $200 at the end of the meal. however, InKind is running an offer for $50 off any Kumoya meal over $150 right now through mid July... so now is a great time to go :') Enjoy the experience! And my GF buddies - feel comfortable and safe here!

Yelp
Cool, new, moody Japanese lounge in LoHi. We got in with same day reservations on a Saturday. The front part of the restaurant is more of a sushi bar vibe, the middle is more loungey and the back is a straight up bar. Drinks: my husband wanted a beer, we didn't see any on the menu so we asked about it. He chose the yuzu white ale - very average beer, not so average price. Hands down the most expensive beer I've ever witnessed at $18 which came as a surprise when we got the bill. Ouch. How about a beer menu next time?? Food: - Wagyu Tartare - delicious! Recommend and it's served with bread. - Nasu Misoyaki - the eggplant dish that many have posted about. Unfortunately it was INSANELY salty with the miso and not sure if there was added salt. Seems like this one varies. I wouldn't order again. - Sandoitchi - the bread was divine but because we got bread with the tartare this felt very heavy. It needed more slaw to balance out the denseness of the thick fried pork + bread. - the salmon tartare roll was my absolute favorite. The best thing we got! Highly recommend. The fish was fresh and melt in your mouth! - amazake desert - plated fancy but none of the flavors really stood out. Overall I'd probably rate a 3.5 - I'd come back just to try more sushi but gotta recover from the $18 beer first.

Yelp
I've been here twice now and both experiences were amazing. We've sat in the back bar area both times which is a bit more moody and it's been quiet. I've enjoyed the seaweed salad, both tartares, wagyu skewers, the red miso soup, many delicious nigiri/rolls/sashimi, and two of the desserts, whose names escape me and I can't find them online. Everything is perfect. Oh! and the wasabi sampler is a must! It's so fun and now I'm obsessed with the pickled wasabi. Service is always on point also. Wes took care of us the first time I was in. I love that they have late hours too. A late food menu to go with the late hours is even better! The last friends I went with said this was the best sushi they've had. That's pretty big.

Yelp
My company took a group of us to dinner at kumoya on a Wednesday evening in March. We had a reservation, but note that they do have a private room you just have to specifically request it (it was taken this night). Based on all of the seating, if I go back, I will be sitting at the bar top to see the chefs making the food. We ordered a ton of dishes but some noteworthy ones were the beef tartare dish and the toro.

Yelp
Huge kudos to @kumoya_denver for an amazing restaurant opening this week. This may be my new favorite sushi spot in Denver! Highly recommend the Umami cocktail and Salmon sashimi . This whole menu is fantastic, and it was hard to choose because I wanted it all. The staff were incredible-- helpful, kind, and generous. They made great food recommendations, and they were accommodating when we asked about nigiri that wasn't on the menu. Fun jazz music played all night, and the seating was gorgeous. The design and aesthetic alone make me want to hang out longer and see all the details in the restaurant decor. Drinks: UMAMI (whisky; mushroom rum, shoyu, demerara, black garlic, sesame)

Yelp
HOLY CRAP! Let me tell you, came here on a Wednesday night 10:40 pm. They only had the late night menu and drinks, but that's all I needed. It felt like I found a diamond. I got two drinks the Umami and Kaigan. The Umami was whiskey and mushroom run, CRAZY so it tasted like a lighter old fashion, but as you smell when about to drink it, you can smell the earthyness of the mushroom rum. Very cool , very unique, went really well with my food. // The Kaigan cocktail is whiskey, rum, sherry, banana and something else and comes on FIRE BABY! I had this after my food and honesty deserves to be at a tiki bar, I love everything banana flavored in my liquor for some reason. It might not vibe with people, but vibes with me. // So I came here late, so the food options were limited. I got the Bara Chirashi which is the mixed seafood bowl on rice and HOLY SHIT, this was fire. I was hungry I just got to Colorado for the first time, feeling weird but this put me down. I honestly wanted another if I could eat more sooo good. They used the wasabi not like that pale green color one, the one that I like in my Tako Wasa (octopus and wasabi). Very good. What a come up. So glad I didn't just pass out and came to eat.

Yelp
What a delicious surprise! Met a friend for dinner and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and upscale ambiance of this spot! I'm assuming it was the owner or manager but a lovely gentleman helped us make decisions about dinner- everything was divine! Especially the aged toro- like butter!!!

Yelp
I took my partner here for a birthday dinner and we had a lovely evening. The food and drinks were so fresh and absolutely delicious. Yes, it was expensive, but well worth it. One observation, not necessarily a criticism, is that they are leaning into trends in a way that is both good (dried fish- not easy to find in Denver) and sometimes cliche, more to teach/give non-educated sushi goers the chance to try things that are not necessarily true to a specific type of Japanese cuisine. There's just a little too much of everything on the menu, but it's all delicious, so no complaints. Now a complaint: the GM struck me as unprofessional. Unkepmt relative to the Japanese traditions (wrinkled clothing), smug about his playlist, and inappropriately touched TWO of the female waitstaff while we were there. He is clearly super proud of the menu, well spoken and knowledgeable, but something was just... off. Put a damper on the otherwise immaculate service and wait staff.

Yelp
Ambience is chill with lots of options for every palette (especially if you like tuna). Service was attentive. Everything we had was good. Highlights for me are the kinoko (mushroom) dish and the spicy tuna roll. They were AMAZING.

Yelp
Best Japanese in Denver, hands down! Ambiance, interiors, service is on point. Seafood is brought in from Japan and you know is quality. Seasonal dishes makes it fun and exciting. Drinks are also yummy!

Yelp
Came in close to closing seeing it was the best rated sushi place in Denver, Wes made the perfect recommendations, made sure we slowed down and enjoy our experience. He took our order by heart, without writing it down, and got it correct. We enjoyed his quick wit and humor. The nigiri we had were fatty and delicious. Even the ginger and wasabi was noticeably high quality. Not to mention the decor and ambience was moody, colorful and modern.

Yelp
As someone else shared... GET THE EGGPLANT! As for the rest of the meal, it was all solid but not something you can't get at other nicer sushi spots for a much better price. And the fact that they charge you $7 a bottle for Saratoga Springs sparking and still water (didn't offer tap to us or tell us they charge for water) was really crummy. I've been to many fine dining restaurants that don't charge for water options! Don't get me wrong, everything was fresh, the service was attentive, and the restaurant itself is beautiful! But none of the sushi stood out from other places around town. I might come back if they have good happy hour options but otherwise I definitely won't be frequenting!

Yelp
Food was amazing! The wasabi trio was something different and if you like wasabi def give it a try w your sushi.

Yelp
Menu was a little hard to understand exactly what was on happy hour (30% off rolls), but we liked the salmon tartar roll, and otoro. The kinoko mushroom dish was a little more heavily breaded and fried so wasn't of favorite, but they also had good drink options, and their bartenders were friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Spent my birthday here for a nice sushi dinner and a great evening. Food, service and ambiance were all absolutely stellar. We had James and Kayden as our servers and they were super welcoming, helpfull with the menu and generally friendly and warm. The food was absolutely in the conversation of best sushi in Denver. 10/10 will come back.

Yelp
What an amazing experience! First the restaurant was super cute. Love the decoration, and the music and the romantic vibe. They have a sushi bar area and an alcoholic bar in the back. The drinks we had were amazing. We met the bar manager aka pickled master aka Kael. The pickled onion he had in the cocktail was the best I've had ever had. I didn't realize pickled onion can taste like that. And I have been to many amazing restaurants and bars around the world. Wes the manager was very helpful. We told them we decided to omakase he said just give him a budget and he will make it happen. Austin was our waiter he check on us and made sure we got everything we need at all time. Service was 1000000000000% So now let's talk about food. Traditional sushi not about of crazy pairing with fruits or sauce like other sushi restaurants. You get to really taste the flavor of the fish if that's not for you maybe try their sushi rolls? Also a lot of unique fish never had a barracuda before tonight. The apps and drinks and the pickled onion was my fav. Must try items !!!!!!!! Waygu tartare and the Mukozuke! We will be back there couple things on the menu I really want to try.

Yelp
I sat at the bar and had some tuna and salmon. They bartender was very attentive and made a suggestion from my choices, so I ordered it all again because it was that good. Definitely, going back to get my sushi fix!

Yelp
This place is a new must watch sushi spot! I was blown away when I went their first week and have been dying to go back! Excited to see what they have in store for my next visit. Crew was extremely welcoming and the vibes were impeccable

Yelp
This restaurant is bigger than it looks. There is ample seating in the two main rooms. Really nice and upscale decor. I made reservations through OpenTable and it required a credit card but once we got there, we were seated right away. The waitress Natasha helped us a lot with our selections. The wagyu beef tartare was probably my favorite. I really liked the seaweed crisps that came with it. It added the right amount crisp and saltiness while the beef was very tender. The sashimi's were all tasty. It was my first time trying needlefish...it kinda reminded me of fishy boba :) with the texture. It was probably my least favorite. The unagi had more of a stiff texture than other Japanese restaurants so that was different. The scallops were so tender and tasty. I really liked the sauce of that dish. The eggplant was also delicious...not sure what added the crisp but that was a good addition. Prices were kinda expensive but still not bad for the quality of the food. Natasha did forget to bring us some of our order but the manager Wes took care of it once he noticed we were sitting there for a while not getting any more food. Still no complaints since it allowed my friend and I to converse more. But I probably would've given 5 stars if we didn't have to wait so long for some of our order.

Yelp
Our service name was Antoinette and the manager was Wes incredibly kind. We walked in during a shift change and they accommodate us us with such a great attitude. The music was excellent, and the ambience was definitely coming back.

Yelp
We had dinner here for my birthday which was amazing thanks to the sushi chefs. And then we met James in the back bar for a nightcap. James makes THE best cocktails in Denver. He's not only creative in his craft but he's extremely personable. Jame's makes Kumoya a staple in our night out! But don't tell too many people ;)

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic. One of *very few* locations where you can trust that anything on their menu will be perfect. We will be back. On it's way to be a Michelin Star !!

Yelp
This restaurant has moved into my top spot for sushi! Everyone who works here is extremely attentive and welcoming, which is always a great sign of how things are going to go. The drinks were amazing. I wish I had taken pictures of the cocktails. The food is incredible! It's rare I order anything cooked when I am in a sushi frame of mind but the eggplant looked too good to pass up....well worth diverting!! They had two kinds of uni, which I love! We also ordered the spotted prawn ceviche, which wasn't my favorite, but I loved that the dish included the fried heads. We had the a few other pieces of sashimi, oh and the scallop roll was the perfect thing to end with! We will definitely be back!
