The Best Tacos In NYC - New York - The Infatuation

"Everything is made fresh to order at La Abuelita, a tiny restaurant tucked in the back of a Bushwick bodega. There are a few tables across from the cold beverage cases and next to the open kitchen where you can watch your food being made to order. Order the tinga con todo and watch as the women in the back mash avocados for guac while freshly-pressed tortillas bubble up on the griddle. These tacos are so chock full of fillings, they’re almost a fork-and-knife job. We recommend grabbing an outdoor table in their backyard and settling down to give the tacos your full attention." - neha talreja, kenny yang, carina finn koeppicus, willa moore, will hartman

The 22 Best Mexican Restaurants In NYC

"Everything’s made fresh to order at this tiny eatery tucked in the back of a Bushwick fruit shop. There’s a handwritten sign proclaiming the presence of “real Mexican grandmas” in the kitchen, and it’s likely you’ll see them there, mashing avocados for guac while freshly pressed tortillas bubble up on the griddle. The tacos here are so chock full of fillings, they’re almost a fork-and-knife job, and they also do quesadillas, burritos, tortas and more. Get the tinga con todo in your preferred format, and grab an outdoor table in the backyard." - willa moore, bryan kim, will hartman, neha talreja, carlo mantuano, sonal shah

The 12 Best Burritos In NYC

"Everything is made fresh to order at this tiny restaurant tucked in the back of a Bushwick bodega. Order a burrito, and watch as the three women (a.k.a., las abuelitas) in the back mash avocados for guac while freshly-pressed tortillas turn golden on the griddle. This is a rice-heavy burrito, but the rice isn’t just filler, it’s super well-seasoned and brings a ton of flavor to the table." - neha talreja, willa moore

Real hidden gem - some of the best tacos in the area, $4/pop. Got two pastor & 1 carne asada. Excellent, no frills tacos- and all came with generous amounts of guac.

Nice place with decently cheap options and lots of food. The carnitas taco (4/5) was filled with great flavor and lots of meat - great for the price. The nachos (3/5) were okay (lots of avocado and cheese) but the chips were stale. The picaditas (4/5) were very nice: homemade corn tortillas with a really nice cheese. The horchata (3/5) was average. The Verde Chicken tamale (4/5) was really nice - moist chicken pieces with a tasty Verde sauce.

Super good , well priced , seasoned well and good portions ! Would totally come back again ! I got the burrito w/ carne and I appreciate they were open late since I had just come out of work . It’s a very humble little spot and the workers were super nice. - born and raised NYer

La Abuelita consistently makes very delicious Mexican food :] The kitchen's in the back, the front's a deli with fresh tropical fruits and produce, and there's also yummy pastries like thres leches cakes! the outdoor seating area to the right is a nice hang out space. I really like the wholesome atmosphere of this mom-and-pop shop, the family working here is very nice. Highly recommend to anyone passing by.

Everything about this place is done right. A well maintained grocery store that leads to comfortable exclusive seating in front of a dining counter. The ladies behind the plastic veil of the counter conjure up some of the most remarkable homestyle food in all of Bushwick. It feels like you've entered someone's home and their grandma is whipping up lunch. I encourage you to try every protein option in every combination of medium available whether it be a taco or sopes or otherwise.

I waited over 40 minutes for my food, only to see someone who ordered after me served first. Another customer left because of the long wait. As a chef, I noticed poor organization. Last time I visited, they sent out burnt chorizo tacos, which shows a pattern of inconsistency. This place has potential but needs better management and quality control.

Yelp
Amazing full tacos - need to come back. This spot is a deli/restaurant in the back, offering seating inside and out. The service was kind and quick, with tons of food options and photos. The tacos were amazing and came so full you need to eat it with a fork.
