"There are a few La Michoacanas in Chicago, but the location we really like is in Pilsen. It has a drive-thru, the staff is friendly, and they have excellent paletas and regular ice cream. The treats here are very sweet, and ideal for when you want a dessert that tastes like dessert because not everyone wants their treats to taste like goat cheese or earl grey tea. Our favorite is the cajeta ice cream, which tastes like frozen condensed milk in the best way, and the rice pudding cream paleta, which is milky and sweet with little bits of rice in it that we really enjoy." - adrian kane, veda kilaru
"For a seemingly endless array of options, Pilsen’s Mexican creamery can’t be beat. Ice creams run the gamut from cucumber to Mexican Twinkie while the vibrant paleta selection is even more eclectic, boasting dozens and dozens of flavors. It can be an overwhelming experience but don’t fret; just jump right in and then come back (again and again) to try more things." - Naomi Waxman, Eater Staff
"La Michoacana is a summer staple. There are plenty of paletas to choose from, whether it’s lime and strawberry or a creamy blackberry. Plus, a bright pink exterior makes this a perfect place to get a gorgeous Instagram." - Eater Staff
"Expect long lines at this colorful paleteria and neveria, so use the wait to narrow down selections from the enormous menu. Will it be ice cream, one of the many fruit-flavored paletas, or a chamoy-soaked mangoneada? Anything that combines sweet and spicy, like the mango-chile paleta, is a winner. If eaters aren’t ready for dessert, there are plenty of street food snacks, including elotes and tostilocos." - Eater Staff
"Located in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, this shop tries to set itself apart amid a crowded field of similarly named paleterias by positioning its offerings as higher-end, summarized by the catchphrase, “If it’s not premium, it’s not Michoacana.” The shop is an example of how individual paleterias compete through branding and presentation in neighborhoods with dense concentrations of Mexican and Mexican-American customers." - Serena Maria Daniels
