The Best Croissants In Chicago

"While other croissants lean savory, the croissants from La Patisserie P in Uptown go the opposite direction. Once you make it through the flakefest of a shell (warning, it can get messy), it’s immediately noticeable that butter is in control more than sugar. But it’s not too sweet, which makes it a great choice if you’re looking to lightly tickle your sweet tooth without going full caramel walnut tart and getting blacklisted by your dentist." - john ringor, veda kilaru, nick allen

La Patisserie P Review - Uptown - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Walking into La Patisserie P can be overwhelming, even if you’ve been before. This tiny Uptown bakery only has two small tables and three massive display cases stocked with tarts, buns, and cakes. But any pastry visual overload (and indecision) at La Patisserie P is worth it for their tasty European and Asian-inspired baked goods. The croissants are great (particularly if you have a sweet tooth), but we also like the nutty ube buns and creamy egg tarts. And if you’re more of a savory pastry person, their baked and steamed buns are loaded with saucy BBQ pork or curry chicken." - John Ringor

Google
As a big fan of both classic viennoiserie and Asian flavors, I wanted to love this place but unfortunately struggled to do so. The items are a bit inconsistent - the ube pastel de nata had great flavor, but you couldn’t taste the pandan in the pandan version. The textures were a bit off as well - the lamination in the croissant and pasteis de nata was oddly brittle (may just not have traveled well) and the hopia was a bit dry. The ube bun would have been great, but we found a hair baked into it after our first bite and weren’t willing to keep eating (see last photo) The one item that was excellent was the steamed rice cake variety pack - no notes, would get it again. Overall I think there’s potential here, but the execution still leaves something to be desired

Google
Really great selection of pastries that all tasted amazing. The triple chocolate chunk cookie was a standout - warm, soft but not falling apart, and full of chocolate. The cheesy garlic bread was ridiculously tasty, and the coconut roll was unique and flavorful. Nothing was too sweet and I’ll be back soon to try the croissants!

Google
This is my favorite local bakery! They have such a large selection of pastries and drinks so I try something new every visit. But I do have my staple order- A triple chocolate chip cookie and shredded pork bun! The cookie had the perfect ratio of chocolate-to-cookie :) Highly recommend visiting La Patisserie

The bakery is quite small, but the air smells savory and full of delight. The staff are also very nice, and the pastries are fresh and looks good too.

Google
Definitely a SKIP. I hate to leave such a low review, but I just felt so disappointed with my order. Maybe I just ordered the wrong things, but what we got was just so plain, and things tasted stale or sour even though we ate them less than an hour after picking them up. We got a cannoli, which tasted kind of sour, and had absolutely no crunch. It felt like it had been frozen and thawed out. The almond "cookie" we got was harder to bite than a biscotti with no warning, so none of us could even eat it. The pudding was just OK, but we were kind of expecting actual mango pieces or something when we ordered because of the price... $6.50 for a small can of plain mango pudding just felt a little silly. The baked goods in general just felt prepackaged and soulless. I really love these kinds of places, but I'm sorry to say there's just no love in this baking. The prices are pretty ridiculous for what everything tastes like, too. I hope they are able to improve, but until then, I wouldn't waste your time.

Having arrived here after our walk from the Argyle Night Market, we found many delightful treats still available. I especially enjoyed their sesame balls. It was warm when I purchased it, and it tasted wonderful. The other lady assisting my sister-in-law was also very pleasant and welcoming.

This bakery should be illegal to exist! 🤯🤯 Everything is amazing in this shop. The highlight from our trip was this square lavender(?) croissant! So pretty and even more tastier than it looks! The service has always been superb. They’re nice and so patient with you because there are so many choices!

Google
Stopped by here to grab a lemonade and got sponge cake and chocolate chip cookies. The sponge cake was so delicious and you can taste how good the material and ingredients they use is. The bakery covers a whole range of stuff from Cantonese to French to American style. Will definitely visit when I’m town again.

Yelp
Got the bbq pork buns, ube & almond croissant, and pandan & ube tarts. Surprised the reviews really recommend the bbq pork buns as I found it too sweet. Much prefer other bakeries for the bbq pork buns that have a better balance of savory & sweetness Both croissants were very delicious! Highly recommend. Tarts were pretty good too. Ube tart had a stronger flavor than the pandan. Really surprised by the ube flavor here. Most places their ube flavor is very subtle, but here it's nice & strong! Would come back to try their other pastry selections.

Yelp
The French occupied Southeast Asia long enough to catalyze a true fusion cuisine. Like Japanese-French desserts Southeast Asian - French baked goods aren't as overly sweet at American or even French pastries. Unlike Japanese-French pastries, Southeast Asian pastries are also influenced by Chinese tastes. In other words, this place is a little unique, and to my Asian-American tastes, deadly delicious (I'm diabetic). If you're familiar with what I mean, you'll love this place. If you have no idea what I'm saying, give the place a try with an open mind, don't expect what you'd find at a more typical Midwestern American bakery. They also make a competent espresso.

Yelp
i went to a haibayo event that gave me an opportunity to hear about the stories of the special people behind la patisserie p and umami from scratch! they served so many free desserts for us each one was sooo delicious but really my ultimate sacrifice was not getting seconds because it was too tasty i just couldn't bear lowering the chances of others getting to taste it as well! loved their stories and can't wait to continue living to eat more....

Yelp
Great price for a city bakery. The fruit tart was so fresh and tasty. The m & m cookie was a surprising stand out. We got a few other cookies and the cheesecake. They were all really good and not too sweet.

Yelp
I was here on a trip and stopped by because they had HK milk tea. The bakery is very cute and was very clean inside. The service is amazing as well. Let me tell you--the food here is amazing! The milk tea is smooth and strong. Not too sweet, very addicting. All the buns are soft and the dough has a nice bite to it creating an incredible mouth feel. My favorite was the BBQ pork bun; it had a delicious pork filling that wasn't overly sweet or gamey. I had a chance to talk to the owner Peter Yuen. He is an amazing pastry chef who works very hard at perfecting his craft. I'm from Boston so I can't come here too often but this is definitely a must visit destination.

Yelp
Got a surprise bag from here and received 7 refrigerated buns: 4 ham and egg, 1 tuna, and 2 custard. The bread heats up nicely after the instructed 30 seconds in the microwave. I tried the tuna bun first and was pleasantly surprised by how the bread retained its satisfying chewiness without tasting underbaked. The bottom was a bit closer to having that underbaked/wet feel, but that may have been due to the microwave and is a common trait of filled buns even when bought fresh/unrefrigerated, in my experience. The bread was also sweet, which complemented the more savory tuna filling nicely. The tuna filling was yummy and similar in taste to the kewpie mayo + canned tuna in onigiri. Decent amount of filling to bread ratio (although on the smaller side of decent). The ham and egg bun was wetter on the bottom (perhaps due to the sponginess of the egg?). Nothing super special in terms of flavor (I would recommend the tuna over it) but filling nonetheless. The custard bun had a smooth egg custard filling with a relatively strong vanilla flavor. I really liked it, but the amount of filling was on the smaller side- I had to chew through a hunk of bread (which still tasted good, nonetheless) to get to it. Definitely less filling than the other Asian bakery down the street, but smoother texture and sweeter/more vanilla-y. I personally wouldn't buy a bun at its store price ($2.70 is a bit steep for a bun in my opinion, and I don't think the amount of filling is abundant enough to justify the price), but the surprise bag price comes out to about $1.00 per bun, which I think is a good deal. The employee was very friendly, and there was a tiny kid (I'm guessing the bakery owner's?) hanging out at a table in the front, which was vaguely reminiscent of the little kid cashiers doing homework at Asian restaurants.

Yelp
I've been here a few times now and I genuinely enjoy returning for the spicy Korean bbq bun. They have a nice little selection here and the staff is always friendly. As far as price point, it seems slightly higher than other typical bakeries, but they are hard to find at times in Chicago... especially on the North Side, so I am not complaining. Will be a returning customer!

Yelp
Update: Still f%#ing amazing, genuinely heads above any other French or Asian bakery in Chicago. The owner is always friendly & sweet, and we always feel welcome. Selfishly, I kind of want to keep this local gem all to ourselves so it doesn't get packed with annoying Instagramers who "Just discover" it every other week...but that just feels morally wrong. They've been a neighborhood staple for years before we got here in 2016 and prob will be for long after. If you haven't been you're truly missing out on a real treat. Get your buns there as fast as you can to get your buns there :P

Yelp
Really good pandan and ube pastel de nata. I couldn't taste the ube much personally, but the texture was silky and perfect. The pandan was delicious and had a really nice aroma.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little spot without much of a seating area. Their hopia and sesame ball were both good, but the cookie/croissant was overly sweet. Overall, prefer some of the other nearby bakeries.

Yelp
I am so upset with my order. My partner ordered me a cake that I specially requested for my birthday. When he went to pick it up, the cake didn't look anything like what I wanted and what he ordered. We are so upset that La Patisserie didn't communicate about their abilities. We were overcharged for a boring cake that looks nothing like our order. Terrible bakery for custom orders! See pictures attached.

Yelp
Great place, but small but stocked with lots of goodies. The food is delicious , had the Provençal quiche and chocolate croissant. Both very good. Service is great despite the big crowds lined up the door. It's a bit pricey and parking is hard to find in the area.

Yelp
La Patisserie P had such amazing pastries. It's a small bakery at Argyle that's definitely worth a visit. Love that they have Filipino pastries there which is amazing. One of my favorites from La Patisserie P are the pork floss buns! so sweet and savory. Very addicting. Their egg tarts are also amazing as well as their ham and cheese buns.

Yelp
By far one of my favorite bakeries in Chicago. Their hospitality on its own is 5000 stars. The place is located in the Little Vietnam area and is a great stop during a walk around the neighborhood. I first tried this place through a "Too Good To Go" order. When I arrived, I noticed most of the baked goods included pork in them, so I asked if I could return the items that had pork since I am unable to eat those. I was just looking to return the items I couldn't eat and keep the ones I could. The lady behind the counter INSISTED that I choose other items in place of the ones I couldn't eat, even though it was a TGTG order. She even gave me extra. I cannot begin to explain how good it felt to be such around hospitable people. They didn't judge me on my religion or food preferences and just wanted to accommodate me in any way they good - thank you! The pastries, buns and cakes are beyond delicious. The chicken bun was one of my favorites. The chicken was so juicy, tender and seasoned to perfection. The sweet items were just perfect. Ever since I moved to the US, I haven't really been able to enjoy any sweets or deserts because of the unhealthy amount of sugar and overly processed ingredients they use, but this bakery beat all odds. The pastries are extremely fresh and you won't feel bloated or on the verge of diabetes after eating here. I am so happy to have my to-go spot now! They also do large cake orders for events and I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend you check them out. I'll be back in January to place an order for my 30th birthday! Thank you and see you next time!

Yelp
You wouldn't expect a bakery with a French name in the Vietnamese neighborhood of Chicago to have lots of Filipino goodies - I sure didn't the first time I walked in - but that's what La Patisserie P has loads of, along with several other Asian countries represented. Even though Chiu Quon is across the street you can get bbq pork buns here, but also pepper steak buns, curry buns, spicy Korean bbq buns, and more. For my fellow Filipinos you can score giant butter ensaymadas, hopia with different fillings like pork or munggo (mung bean) or ube, or a pack of pandesal. They sell croissants, Japanese custards, cookies with intense butter flavoring - just a huge variety in this tiny store. LPP has become a must visit anytime we're in Argyle, we always leave with a huge box of goodies and I'm disappointed in myself that I didn't know about it sooner. Hopefully other people aren't as deprived of LPP as much as I've been.

Yelp
Buns galore. This place is adorable! I had to buy 4-5 different buns. I think my favorite has to be the black pepper beef bun, but the custard bun is great if you want something sweet.
google avatar

Kevin Z.

Yelp
Their wife cakes are not traditional tasting, but that's expected from an upscale Asian-inspired bakery. It's still good though, but it's a bit pricy. In general, this shop takes traditional items and recreate the recipe kinda, so everything tastes a bit off from expected, but generally still tasty.
google avatar

annette d.

Yelp
I get a taste for a croissant occasionally, and I have found that the best way to get a very good one is right out of the oven. I can't speak for how LPP's croissants are late in the day, but if you get a chocolate one right after they come out of the oven, they are insanely delicious! I took mine outside to eat because I knew I'd make a giant mess, and I did. Then I decided I needed to get one for my son, so I drove back and got him one too. Lady behind the counter was very nice.

Yelp
The look is very underwhelming but it tastes so much better than the look! Don't get me wrong. It's just not that kinda instagram patisserie. Tried too good to go and got a bunch of random buns and were surprised by the taste even after thawing from frozen. Love everything in the bag! Will definitely try the other buns in the shop.

Yelp
Unfortunately, the owner of this bakery is the rudest I have ever encountered. My elderly mother wanted to visit this bakery this afternoon, and we left feeling completely disrespected and unwelcome. My mother accidentally dropped a box of baked goods while browsing, and as we were picking it up, an Asian woman behind the counter stormed over with a hostile attitude. She snatched the box from my hands and rudely informed us not to put it back on the shelf -- which, for the record, we were not doing. I was about to ask her to dispose of it properly. Instead, she chose to dramatically toss the box into the garbage with a loud noise, as if to make some sort of point. At that moment, I put down everything I was planning to purchase. I couldn't bring myself to stay in such a hostile environment any longer. Is this what customer service has come to -- belittling an elderly customer over a few dollars' worth of baked goods? Does treating people with such disdain improve the situation? What makes this experience even worse is that a young boy was sitting nearby, witnessing the entire incident. I can only hope that when he grows up, he learns to treat the elders in his life with more respect than this woman showed my mother, another Asian woman. No matter how good the food might be, it's simply not worth enduring such misery. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere that values customer service.

Yelp
After having a meal on Argyle, and there are many meals to be had - you might want to stop by here to satisfy your sweet cravings. I'm impressed by the wide variety of offerings that they have - French, Chinese and Filipino inspired. And apparently fusion too - I read that they have Ube croissants?! That's never available when I visit - maybe it sells out quickly?? Anyway, everything looks visually appealing. I can't really point out a favorite, so I suggest that you grab a variety and just start chowing down with a good cup of coffee. Maybe on my 4th or 5th visit, there will be a clear winner. FYI, it's a small shop so I always end up taking it to go.

Yelp
I've been coming to this locally owned Asian & French bakery for years and it should not be missed. Pastries and breads are incredibly delicious & super fresh. Prices are very reasonable, everything between $2-$3. Owners & staff always have a smile on their face. I've had the BBQ bun, spicy Korean BBQ bun, plain croissant, chocolate croissant, ham & cheese bun, and the taro bun.
google avatar

Sherwin C.

Yelp
Was looking for a cheaper dessert option in the area since many of the fancier bakeries / bubble tea places nearby cost about $5-$7 per item. Fortunately I came across this bakery and although the prices are higher than comparable items in Chinatown, everything I tried was done well and an elevated version of my favorites. The egg custard tart had a deliciously smooth and flavorful egg custard, minimally as good as Chiu Quon. The coconut roll was surprisingly chewy and bursting with coconut flavor. I like how the coconut was integrated evenly throughout the entire roll and was not too sweet. The pan de ube was also very chewy and just a little firm. Once again, this was flavorful without being overly sweet. Overall, great versions of all the items I tried and I can't wait to visit again and try more in the future!

Yelp
My family and I have been buying baked goods from this bakery for ages lol. We'd go shopping at Viet Hoa then cross the street and pick up some goodies here. We've tried everything and frequently get their "Puto" rice cake, a variety of buns, and cookies my son loved when he was younger. This bakery is an infusion of French and Asian treats.

Yelp
Stumbled upon La Patisserie P while walking from Nha Hang Viet Nam. We went on a Wednesday late afternoon. Had a really nice conversation with Peter, owner and baker-extraordinaire. Learned taro and ube are the same, did not know. Peter has competed in major world baking competitions (not the food network kind). He scored the highest out of all the bakers. Has certificates displayed. Sadly, his famous croissants were sold out along with the pork buns. That'll just make me come back. Some of the items are Chinese and others with a French influenced. There are some savory along with the sweet. I appreciate how nothing was overly sweet. Ate the ube hopia on the drive home. It had just a hint of sweet, the ube was subtle and the bun was a heavier flaky (hard to describe), not a bad thing. I'm going to call next time to make sure I try the croissants and pork buns. I'd go back just to support Peter. He's so nice! They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Yelp
LOVED THIS PLACE. The ambiance was nice and quiet and I liked the decorations a lot. The pastries were AMAZING. I ordered a pineapple bun, coconut bun, a Japanese cheese tart and a mango pudding. I came at about 11 am and the top of the pineapple bun was still slightly crunchy, which was great. The cheese tart was on a pricier side (over $4) for its size but it was really freaking good. Creamy with a crunchy crust. The coconut bun was sweet and soft. The mango pudding was good but it wasn't my favorite, I just don't love mango very much but it tastes very mango-y and a mango lover will sure love it. The total was $14.55 and I would say that this place is more of a $$ than $. I would 100% be back!

Yelp
i looked for one thing and one thing only: Portuguese Egg tarts. And these folks absolutely delivered with great friendliness and hospitality too.

Yelp
Foods great! I've been by a few times, and I'm excited to go back and try more items. The staff is nice and the service is usually quick.

Yelp
Ube croissant was my favorite! Everything tasted fresh & full of flavor. I really enjoyed the selection & everything was reasonably priced. Excited to try more of the selections when I go back.

Yelp
Cute little bakery. Went inside on a whim and was glad I did. Custard bun here is 5 stars. Tried an ube/taro bun too that was good but the custard is shoulders above it. Wholesome little bakery with the owners young son running around making you laugh. Will definitely be back soon
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cute little place. The middle aged Asian man working at the bakery was so nice and explained all the baked goods to us! My favorite was the shredded pork bun- it's got meat floss on top and a layer of Mayo inside. The custard bun was not bad too. The hopia taro was the best out of the 3 hopia we got- the taro had a strong flavor and isn't too sweet. The chocolate croissant was a bit disappointing as it was full of giant air bubbles.

Yelp
I spent half of my 20s based in Manila and making trips out to the metropolises of Asia pretty regularly. One of the things I missed most about that time in my life after settling back in the US was the ready available of yummy Asian-style pastries. La Patisserie P does so many of them well! The storefront is cozy and very clean. I was impressed by the mix of both Filipino, Korean and broadly Asian-style baked goods. Prices were more than fair. I highly recommend any of the hopia (the crust is of the flakier type and the fillings are just the right bit of sweetness) as well as any of the brioche-based buns. The Ube bun I ordered was very flavorful and had a great amount of Ube.

Yelp
TL:DR - Hot dog bun a bit dry, almond croissant a bit over done, white chocolate macadamia nut was very over done. Not a great first impression, but their wide variety of European and Asian baked goods will get me to come back at least one more try in hopes of finding a winner. Cramped insides, def a come and take-away spot. My first/most recent visit here was just ok. I feel like I need to qualify that because there are so many items here that could be really good and maybe I just got the wrong thing, but it wasn't great. I was really drawn to this place, because I was feeling European/French baked goods, but also love me some Asian buns as well. Best of both worlds here. They have a HUGE selection, three cases FULL of different items, plus tons of items stocked on top of the cases, as well as a shelf on the side selling discounted day old stuff. The inside is pretty cramped with no seating, at least during covid. I got an almond croissant, white chocolate macadamia nut cookie, and a hot dog bun. The hot dog bun was very fragrant. When I got home and opened my box, it had a very strong hot-dog smell. Because of this, I tried to eat this first. Hot tasted delicious and was fresh, the bun was ever so slightly dry on the inside. Usually with Asian hotdog buns, the bread is super soft with a nice egg washed outside. The almond croissant was ok. It was a little burnt on the outside and I wish it was just a tad sweeter. Then the white chocolate macadamia nut cookie was just not good. Very very dry and crunchy, which is not my preference. So like I said, they have so many other items I'd like to try, and I'd be willing to give them one more shot, but when 2 out of 3 were sub-par, it's not encouraging.

Yelp
After a pho lunch, we stopped by La Patisserie P to get some goodies. This place seems to be a mix of a french bakery and asian bakery. The latter is stuff my childhood is made of, so I was glad to see it. One of the asian "breads" that I love and know from my childhood is the sponge cake. It kind of looks like a giant, fluffy cupcake with no frosting. I got one here for nostalgia's sake. When eating it room temperature, it wasn't very good. However, once I microwaved it for about 30 seconds, it was tasty & just like the sponge cake I remember from my childhood. Same went for the pineapple (bolo) bun. Just meh when room temp, but great when baked. So, if you're planning to get bread here, be sure to heat it up! 129/365

Yelp
I've been coming here with my family since I was a kid. This is hands down my favorite bakery in the city, literally never had anything I didn't love from here. Highlights for me are the almond croissants (of course), cream buns, and any of their filled savory buns. It also doesn't hurt that the prices are much better than the high end bakeries in trendier parts of town at the same or better quality.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
One of my favorite bakeries in Little Saigon. La Patisserie P is an Asian-French bakery located in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. It's a rather small shop that can be easily missed if one isn't looking. But what a joy it is once one stumbles upon this local spot. There's a wide selection of items to chose from here. The range of flavors here varies from savory (bbq pork bun, pork floss, etc.) to sweet&desserts (custard buns, egg tarts, cakes, etc.). Prices are not bad at all for what you're getting. Feel free to buy a box or two for the office without breaking the bank. Staff here has always been friendly and helpful. They don't mind taking time to answer your questions and you won't feel rushed to make a choice. And did I mention that they take credit cards? 5/5. Favorited. If you ever take time to visit this area, you should stop by this local gem.

Yelp
I just went here, and they had a smaller selection of bread compared to Chiu Quon, nonetheless still good. I picked up a butter croissant, a sesame ball with red bean, and an almond cookie. The croissant was buttery and soft. It had that nice flaky texture. The sesame ball was chewy and had the right amount of red bean filling. The almond cookie had the right amount of texture and hardness, making it easy to break off a small piece. I loved how pronounced the almond flavor came through. Overall, I enjoyed my experience, and I would definitely come again. There's a $7 minimum for card, which I believe is easy to attain.

Yelp
very good Asian bakery! i love the taro hopia, very tasty and not too sweet. The taro buns are good too! The savory buns like the curry chicken as well as the ham and cheese ones are great too.

Yelp
Some of best croissant in the Chicago but they may not be ready until mid morning, a little late for breakfast.

Kyla G.

Yelp
Cute interior and nice workers. The pastries are really good. Great for simple and quick breakfast!

Yelp
Came back to try some new sweets and again I loved everything I tried! The tiramisu was incredibly soft with a great flavor. The mango cake was the same with a nice fresh mango flavor to it. The cheesecake was also very well done with a hint of mango on top. The coffee cake was also great. Overall everything wasn't too sweet while still flavorful.

Carlyle L.

Yelp
Imagine you had a French trained pastry chef that understood how to use Asian flavors, basically this place. You can get 8-10 pastries for about $20 and gradually eat them throughout the day while you sink lower and lower into your couch right alongside your self esteem. I tend to stick to the sweet stuff; sweet taro bun, ensamadya (not gonna spell check) and coconut cream filled bun.

Yelp
My discovery of La Patisserie P just so happened to be from its twitter business page. I responded to a cute little tweet that the business shared which later resulted in me looking them up on Yelp after conversing back-and-forth. I later responded to their tweet, interested in one particular dessert which was the seasonal fruit tart. My initial visit came 3 months later, after being in the area at the Salvation Army on North Broadway. I was messing around with my Yelp collections list, organizing Uptown businesses all into one folder. La Patisserie P popped up which reminded me of the conversation via Twitter. The rest is history because I immediately made my way to La Patisserie P with no turning back. I anticipated my visit with a huge smile on my face while entering and while conversing with the employee. I even mentioned how I found out about the restaurant which gave the employee a puzzled look because she did not know what Twitter was. As for my order, I ordered the seasonal fruit tart w/ a pearl milk tea to go. Being overly excited at the time, the employee gave me a few tasty samples to try which I enjoyed while headed to my car. La Patisserie P struck me as a very kind and peaceful bakery that I definitely hope to visit again while in the area. Prior to leaving I had my eyes on their gingerbread cookies which I must have at some point. In closing, I definitely recommend La Patisserie P if your visiting the West Argyle Street Historic District in Uptown. Funny that I never noticed La Patisserie while cycling down North Broadway or while in the West Argyle Historic District area. Thomas Gouard

Yelp
La Patisserie is a nice little bakery on the soon to be walking-only-street of Argyle in Viet Town. They call themselves a Euro Asian bakery because aside from having the usual Viet Bakery items they have some variety in other baked goods, as well. Their red velvet cookie was very good and I would totally get that again. We also ordered their egg custards (just aiight), red bean filled sesame balls (pretty good) and red bean filled buns (just aiight). I found the buns to be a bit dry though we did go about 30 minutes before closing. I'm sure things are much more fresh first thing in the morning! Apparently they have a punch card for frequent visitors! I wish I was offered this when I was in shop. Service was just fine when I was in. There was a $10 credit card minimum. I'd love to give the bakery another try but I'm not rushing to get back there. I'm in this area quite a bit though so I can definitely see myself stopping in again.

Yelp
I like this bakery, my fave is the red bean sesame ball. Perfect balance of dough and red bean filling. They have a typical Chinese bakery offerings, however they also have beautiful delicious cake slices, and filipino breads. The service is great and friendly staff, every time we're in the area I always want to stop here to get a dessert.

Yelp
I really hate giving out one star reviews, but I was very unhappy with this bakery. I just so happen to be walking by and saw a variety of eye appealing baked goods through the window. I wanted to try a couple of items. I had no idea what I was getting and ended up choosing rice cakes and a chicken bun. After my items were rung up, I was advised to pick and addition item to meet the minimum amount for debit card use. I picked a custard bun, paid for my food, and was on my merry way. I wasn't until after I got home that I noticed the custard bun never made it to my bag. Well how did that happen when I was asked to buy more goods? No one likes to feel cheated and that's on me for not checking my bag. I don't know what rice cakes are suppose to taste like, but I didn't like them and they started to mold two days later. I don't know it that is normal. Needless to say I won't be coming back.

Yelp
I recommend to purchase pastries and breads when it's fresh out of the oven. Otherwise, nook it for 15 to 30 seconds. A bakery that sells European & Asian pastries, breads, and desserts in North Argyle neighborhood. Peter Yeun (chef, baker, and owner) was awarded a Top 10 Best Baker In America honor in 2011 and has been named a World Champion In Breakfast Pastry. I've been going to this establishment ever since Balingit Bakery closed down to order Puto and other Filipino sweets. I've been ordering here for many years for my mother, who wants the traditional Filipino food staples to combine with the American food spread table. I usually buy these: A common filipino staple: Puto is a soft & moist, Filipino steamed cake usually paired with a main entree or eaten as a warm snack with coffee. Sometimes, add butter or coconut as added flavor. Filipino Spanish bread: An afternoon snack that has a sweet buttery filling. Different versions of hopia are also sold: Filipino or Indonesian style moon cake pastry with a particular filling. Downside: There's 2 small tables and a few seats because this bakery mostly serves on the go and plenty of pick up orders.
