Everywhere to Eat and Drink in the Western Catskills

"While ostensibly this is a charcuterie shop run by husband-and-wife team Eleanor Friedman and Gianpiero Pepe, it feels a lot more like hanging out in their kitchen at home before a dinner party. Customers won’tleave without having tried plenty of samples from the gregarious Pepe, a native of Lioni, in Italy’s Avellino province" - Richard Morgan

Great little store with a lot of artisan homemade local ingredient cured meats. The owner was passionate, knowledgeable and really helpful making our selections. The Tuscan style cured meats had some different names than what I'm used to and he was able to point us in the right direction. Really great find and they had some good cheeses and Italian specialties! They even have espresso if you need a morning pickup while youre getting some yummy snacks.

La Salumina is a culinary gem in the foothills of the Catskills. Eleanor and Gianpiero have created something very special in the quaint town of Hurleyville. Every time I walk through the door, I am transported back to some of my favorite parts of Italy. Their house made, locally sourced salumi is the best I’ve ever had. The emaculate store is stocked with an amazing assortment of Italian products as well as fresh made meats, cheeses, focaccia, the list is endless! Stay for a cup of espresso or cappuccino and be charmed by the owners passion for their craft and their customers. Going to La Salumina is our favorite weekend adventure. I also highly recommend their online catering option.

My wife walked in the door a few minutes before I came home for my afternoon coffee, and sitting on the kitchen table were some small bags with pastry's from La Salumina. She usually goes there for the great Pancetta. But apparently Gianpiero bribed her with a cappuccino to buy the pastry's. The upshot is, I had a fantastic sfogliatelle with my coffee, and am now charged up to go back to work. An hour ago I didn't even know what a sfogliatelle was. It's very impressive that a small shop can produce such wonderful cured meats, and the pastry too.

We were visiting family from upstate NY from Texas. We were told to go inside and check out this small, artisanal shop. This is a hidden gem and you really need to check this shop out. The owner explained everything in detail and made sure we were confident in our decision. They make all meats in house and the cheeses are made locally. It's a little pricey, but you pay for the quality. It's well worth it.

Some of the best salumi I’ve had in my life, and I’ve gotten around! Excellent shop that is well curated for Italian specialty goods. The focaccia was also something I’ll be thinking about for a long time, and I’m excited to go back to try a sandwich which I believe are sold Saturdays.

Ordered a small catering pickup of charcuterie plate and homemade focaccia for a small friends gathering. Everything was absolutely delicious and a big hit with friends! Looking forward to ordering again soon.
