Quail Gets the Spotlight at Le Coq Rico

"Chicken takes the spotlight at Le Coq Rico, state Michelin inspectors of the New York City branch of Antoine Westermann’s beloved Paris restaurant dedicated to all things bird. As of this summer, chicken has to share the spotlight with Westermann’s latest fowl to grace the menu: quail. Known for the brand's treatment towards heritage breeds, Westermann sources his quail from Long Island’s North Fork region—specifically, Feisty Acres Farm—where Bobwhite quails are native to the area. The quail at Le Coq Rico is served atop a 'nest' of angel hair potatoes."

Exceptional restaurant! I've never had such succulent chicken in my entire life. The guinea fowl is also particularly delicious. The meat is extremely tender, and the side dishes are well thought out. The wine list is solid as well! For all you chicken lovers and connoisseurs, this place is a must-visit! A special shout-out to the staff, who give excellent recommendations and are very friendly.

Google
Some outstanding flavors but mixed overall. Went for lunch and had the quarter chicken. The jus / sauce was outstanding. The mac and cheese also delicious. The cheese has this unique creamy flavor that I believe is Parmesan cheese. I also had the eggs, which really brought out an herb flavor. But, the quarter chicken was pretty disappointing. I didn’t the get the Bresse, so admittedly I didn’t get their most expensive or best variety. But what I got was too lean and dry. So, i’m giving it five stars because the service was great, and there were some really notable flavors that made me glad I went, but I did want to warn others to manage their expectations around at least one of their chicken varieties

We had lunch here during our visit to Paris and were absolutely thrilled. The service was very polite and attentive, and the food was excellent – the best culinary experience we had in Paris. We ordered the coq au vin and a quarter chicken with four different side dishes. Highly recommended, and we’ll definitely come back on our next visit to Paris

Google
We enjoyed a beautiful lunch yesterday. We saw a YouTube video recommending this restaurant and we were not disappointed. We had the giblets and coq au vin. Both were absolutely delicious and we appreciated the restaurants value on their produce. The coq au vin was a large dish and we probably should have shared but we had been walking all morning and were very hungry. We had not made a reservation and so were seated at the bar at the pass which we always enjoy watching chefs at their work. A couple of glasses of delicious wine and we were completely satisfied. The service was very good and very friendly as we do not speak French our waiter had very good English. We enjoyed sitting with locals and not be part of mass tourism.

Google
Quite a fair bit to travel for the meal but it's WELL WORTH it! Sat at the bar and observed the magic! Loved it!! Had the egg mayonnaise + quarter chicken + additional legumes + 2 gls of Chardonnay perfectly matched and recommended by Luca! Solo diner and everyone checked in from time to time (not at all intrusive btw) just to make sure that I'm well looked after :) highly recommended!!

Google
We were excited to try this place out, however my partner’s meal (chicken) was very dry. A supermarket rotisserie chicken would’ve been equally as tasty.… and a lot cheaper. The devils egg and terrine was great, and the staff were friendly.

Google
Great place. Great location. A bit of a hike to get to but worth it. Give your self more time than you think so you’re not rushing. It’s up hill. The menu is limited but delicious. Staff is friendly. Didn’t speak much English. But their English was better than my French. Definitely recommend

Upon arriving in Paris, we decided to treat ourselves to the whole roasted heritage chicken (Vollaile de Brussels) which is at the top-tier option on the menu—and it was worth every bite. It was a large whole chicken good to share for our family of four. It came with the sides too like fries, vegetable, salad, potatoes, etc. The bird was tender, bursting with nuanced flavor, and served with exquisite sides that made it a truly indulgent meal. Paired it with a white wine. Service by the way was excellent, they had a guy who spoke really good English which makes it easier for foreigners like us. What sets Le Coq & Fils apart is the vision behind it: Chef Antoine Westermann, a former three-Michelin-star chef (Le Buerehiesel), has reinvented poultry as a gourmet centerpiece. He’s a true “volaillologiste” who carefully sources rare French breeds raised ethically, then cooks them with his signature poach-then-roast method for depth and tenderness. The atmosphere is elegant yet warm—think a “steakhouse for chicken”—with attentive service that makes the meal feel special from start to finish. If you want a truly memorable and indulgent meal in Paris, this place delivers. Highly recommended—and definitely worth reserving ahead!

Yelp
Amazing French roasted chicken and attentive staff. Very cute and small and in the middle of a neighborhood. Loved the French mushroom soup and the salad. The roasted chicken was so juicy and tender. This is a must while in Paris .

Yelp
A perfect place for a Sunday dinner when in Paris while some restaurants are closed on Sundays. We got a reservation for 9:30pm which be mindful that that is the last seating (kitchen closes at 10pm). The location is close to Moulin Rouge which is great to swing by at night and to go to dinner and get drinks in the neighborhood, which is typically pretty vibrant at night. We like the quarter chicken but if with a large group getting a whole bird would work perfectly. We started with the soup of the day which was a chicken broth based cream of mushroom soup, amazing start! We also tried to chicken gizzards dish which was served warm and was super tasty. Nice wine list by the glass and good options by the bottle at decent price. Service is friendly and attentive. Good mix of tourists and local.

Yelp
Our family visited this restaurant yesterday and I got to say it was one of the best experiences we've had in Paris! The restaurant located at a cute neighborhood. Simple but very elegant decor. We were served by Beatrice and a young Afro gentleman. They were very respectful that we are Americans. Since we are not familiar with the menu, the gentleman even brought us small cards to explain how each birds will taste. The 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Made reservations for dinner before our show at the Moulin Rouge. From all the rave reviews I had high expectations but the food was just average.

Yelp
Simply magical. I dined alone, on my first night in Paris (my 5th visit to this enchanting city) and this was (and is) a special place to eat. I was seated at the bar top, and got to see all the chefs in action, and was served directly there. My server was very very friendly and I was torn between the quail and the chicken, but he reminded me that I REALLY came for the chicken, and he was right. I loved the dark blue decor, how intimate the space felt and all the small elegant touches throughout the restaurant. As for the food? Legendary. I started with the chicken giblets (that sauce! divine), the potato puree (so good, I was speechless) and the chicken (just heaven sent). You must must must must have a meal here. It will be simply unforgettable.

Yelp
Very juicy and delicious chicken though bit overpriced. Would definitely go back and recommend to others.

Yelp
The worst meal I've ever had in paris! If you don't want their outrageously expensive whole bird your choice is a 1/4 chicken ? Overpriced and nothing special . I've never been treated so rudley ! After we were there they be hour and 5 minutes the host stood over me with 2 guests and told me " he needed the table " a must miss in Paris!

Yelp
I recently dined at Le Coq & Fils with my mom. The food was exceptional, and we were very impressed with the restaurant until we received the check. As Americans, we were warned several times about being taken advantage of as foreigners in another country. Unfortunately, this experience happened at this restaurant. I had several disappointing experiences with the service. When I asked the server for water, he asked if I wanted sparkling, and I shook my head and politely said, "No, tap water." However, we were charged for sparkling water anyway. When my mom asked for a receipt, the server responded by saying, "You already paid." She had to repeat her request several times before he handed us the restaurant's business card instead of a receipt. He said we spoke English, so it's unlikely that working at a restaurant, he didn't understand the word. My mom also told me that the card machine asked to make a "customary tip." We were told that asking for a tip is very rude in France, but Americans do not know this, so some restaurants like to take advantage of this. It's surprising and disappointing that such a respected restaurant would do this. As soon as I walked out, I realized I left my bag at the restaurant. When I returned to retrieve it, the waiter picked it up, made a dismissive gesture at me, shook his head, and handed it to me, which was very unprofessional. The dismissive gesture and head shake by the server felt like a judgment toward me. I always strive to be friendly and professional toward those in the hospitality industry. As a foreigner, I may not have fit in, but I was not rude to him. This behavior made me feel unwelcome and ruined my experience. In America, we often say that you can tell a lot about a person by the way they treat the person serving them, and I've seen people treat servers rudely, but never the other way around. I've never experienced a waiter outwardly expressing personal judgment toward me until now, and it is especially unprofessional because I made every attempt to be polite while dining here. Foreign visitors should be aware and very clear about their requests here. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously.

Yelp
Wow! Where to begin... the chicken was amazing. Me and my two friends got one of the whole chickens to share. We also got mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, mixed vegetables and a side salad. It was amazing. Our waiter was very nice and knowledgeable when we asked a couple questions. The restaurant is clean and airy even though it's on the small side. BOOK A RESERVATION. There are not more than 10 ish tables on the inside. It was so amazing and I recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious chicken in Paris!

Yelp
This meal was one we were really looking forward to and it lived up to all expectations. The Bresse Chicken is generally considered the best chicken in the world and they specialize in it here. They do other very special chickens to, but this is the one we wanted. As Americans how could we not have the Oeuf Mayo (hard boiled eggs with mayo). It's so classic and perfect. Along with a couple liver and giblet apps, we went with the chicken. While, there is no question it has more flavor than even the Mary's chicken here, it's all a matter of degrees. It's always wonderful to taste what's considered the best. It gives you the basis to compare others. We had an excellent Reb Burgundy to go with it. For desert we went with a classic French desert we just don't see here. The Meringue Floating Island. Service was stellar and we had a wonderful evening.

Yelp

Yelp
I stumbled upon this place through a quick google search looking for restaurants near my hotel in Montmartre, researching where I could get a good meal for lunch. After a quick research, I chose to try this place out based on the pictures, reviews and location near Sacre Coeur. This restaurant is in a beautiful location in Montmartre. They have outdoor seating across the street from the restaurant. Because of the beautiful weather I chose to sit outside and just enjoy the streets and people watch. Reviewing the menu, I also learned that it's not a restaurant to go to by yourself, but they also do offer options for smaller portions. I kind of wanted to order a whole chicken, but I also knew it would be a waste of food since I wouldn't be able to finish it all, so I opted for the quarter chicken, knowing well that it may not be the same as a whole chicken. The quarter chicken, although a small portion, did not disappoint! The sauce was SO GOOD! Very buttery but also very flavorful and served with roasted garlic. The chicken was a little on the drier side, but the sauce made up for it and made for quite a delicious meal! I did have a choice for white or dark meat, but I chose white. Maybe I should have opted for the dark meat. I also ordered the mushrooms, which were delicious and buttery! I am definitely making an effort to check this place out again next time I am in Paris, and hopefully with a larger party so I can try more things on the menu.

Yelp
Ok so I thought this was a little pricy for what it was - yes the quarter chicken was good but not as good as the quail which was very pricy and I enjoyed the pasta that came with it. My salad also came with a hair in it? When we came in we were seated at the bar and it felt very like every though we made a reservation that we weren't welcomed

Yelp
We ate dinner here after the restaurant as renamed Le Coq & Fils. Judging by the photos pre-pandemic this restaurant features the same food from before the pandemic possibly with some differences. Service was amazing here. The staff cared for us throughout the dinner. We ordered many hors d'oeuvre because we couldn't decide: shots of chicken bullion, leek hollandaise, deviled eggs, and giblet empanadas. There is an entire section of the menu devoted to giblets, mind you. We accompanied the meal with a bottle of wine that was exquisite. Both of us ordered a quarter chicken with either vegetable fricasse or frites and salad. The chicken was cooked perfectly. Crispy skin, juicy meat atop chicken jus. We were too full for dessert but nonetheless our waiter presented us with chocolate truffles. Our meal for two was under 150 euros with a bottle of wine. We would gladly eat here again. This restaurant is perfect for a date or to bring the family for dinner.

Yelp
Highly recommend reservations. We tried a week ahead of Thanksgiving to reservations for thanksgiving dinner here, but were full the entire day. On a Sunday at noon, we still did not have reservations. But we were found seats in the back room at a community table. That worked just fine, as an American Airlines pilot and his sister were seated next to us. Nice conversation. This spot is all about the poultry, there are no other meat options. We both chose the roasted quarter chicken, tender and moist. The macaroni gratin was devine- white cheese sauce over rotini pasta with a crust of more melted cheese. This dish and a glass of wine could easily be dinner. The second side was a fresh green salad. All for 24€. There's was no room for dessert, and the menu looked fabulous. There's was a slight snag, the bottle of wine ordered didn't arrive. So half way thru the meal we ordered a glass of wine. Very crisp decor. Back dining room with community table, front area with small tables and a few seats at the bar. Bar seating would be great, you can watch the kitchen.

Yelp
One of the best meals I've had all year. The service was wonderfully attentive. It was almost American in service standards. We were want for nothing and everything came out in a timely fashion. The restaurant feels large for Paris and is nicely appointed. We ordered the offal platter, quartered chicken and a few desserts. It was all beautifully plated and tasted divine. The technique they use to cook the chicken is interesting and I'm shocked it comes out so moist and tender. This is a place that can absolutely turn into a come here every month/week kind of place. Also, the truffles you get with the check. . yeah stealing that idea.

Yelp
The Rooster RICO The Rich Bird I'm not sure of the exact translation but this joint knows how to the roast a bird!!! I got - Quarter chicken - Rotisserie perfection falling off the bone Salad - crisp with light dressing Mac & cheese - Al dente pasta with golden brown cheese on top and puddle of béchamel on the bottom Seating options - bar with working kitchen views, tables, communal table in the back room. Tourist tip - Make a reservation If 2 women are sharing a bottle of wine for lunch you might need to remind them to bring the bottle. If at communal table, chat with your neighbors if they're open. You never know who you'll meet!

Yelp
Diane and I traveled to the Montmartre section of Paris to visit the white-domed Sacre-Coeur Basilica and dine here on what was reported to be the best chicken in town. At 98 Euros (about 115 U.S. Dollars) a chicken, this rotisserie-cooked Bresse Chicken had better be top cock! And it likely was! With golden skin on the outside, and moist, juicy, tender, and extremely flavorful meat from breast to thigh on the inside, this was one fine, spit-turned chicken. First the cooked chicken was presented at the table intact for viewing. Then it was quickly whisked away--only to be returned soon afterward all nicely cut up and ready to eat. The enormous deconstructed chicken was served with an excellent Mixed Green Salad spiked with Radicchio and a light Lemon Vinaigrette Dressing, along with good crisp French Fries. A side of Mac N Cheese was good but not real cheesy. And a filling Fricassee of Fava Beans, green beans, and Chanterelle Mushrooms with Poultry Jus rounded out a fine meal, leading to dessert. For this final course we indulged in a light Chocolate Millefeuille that had a stronger taste than milk chocolate, so was likely high in cacao content. The flakey layers of pastry nicely evaporated away quickly. A complimentary dusted chocolate treat was added for good measure! Service by apron-clad servers was very good, and the ambiance of this small restaurant charming and intimate except for the close proximity of the tables. Satiated, we came out stuffed, and walked slowly down the hill to the Moulin Rouge a few blocks below, where we hailed a taxi to take us back to our hotel across town.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. We considered the restaurant across the street and I'm so happy we decided on coming here. The staff didn't really speak English but everyone was accommodating. We ordered 2 quarter chicken lunches which came with bead, choice of potato, house salad and the chicken. It's the best roasted chicken I've ever had. We also tried the dessert of layers of chocolate and phyllo it was amazing!

Yelp
Best meal of the trip - hands down. This is a high-end restaurant. Don't expect to leave without a $150 check for a table of two. And . . . It is totally worth it. Le Coq Rico is a chicken restaurant par excellence. It is just perfect. The atmosphere is so sophisticated and quieting. The food is sublime. Truly enchanting. We had a mix of menu items - from the the rotisserie chicken to terrine and the chefs special. We also had the best bottle of wine we've had the whole vacation. In many ways - this needs to be on every travelers list of "must visit" place. The food is off the charts delicious. If I had one criticism- we paid almost $200 for a two top table and the service was . . . underwhelming at best. Although our server was kind - he was anything but attentive and forgot about us at one point. We almost poured our own wine. Alas - the meal was delicious and with a visit.

Yelp
Don't be chicken to come here. They speak English and even have an English menu, if you need it. Once you're seated, get ready to enjoy the cleanest tasting roast chicken you've ever had. Along with a mac and cheese side and a side of French fries, you'll wonder why you haven't visited more often. For dessert...if you still have room, you can go for the awesome looking chocolate millefeuille, or something unique to this restaurant like the Floating Dessert I ordered, which is like a ring of marshmallow-like meringue, swimming in a delicious pool of creme anglaise...which is basically the most delicious vanilla cream you've ever had. Along with a bottle of wine, there's nothing fowl about this place! Bon appetit!

Yelp
One of the best meals we had in Paris was our lunch at Le Coq Rico. Le Coq Rico is a French bistro that specializes in gourmet poultry dishes. The restaurant is located in the heart of Montmartre. Our tour guide, Neil, from Discovery Walks recommended this spot and we cannot thank him enough for his amazing recommendation! I recommend ordering the lunch special of the day. The lunch special is only 15€ which is about half the cost of most of the dishes on the menu and is just as decadent. My sister and I both ordered the special of the day which was a light a flaky filet of cod served over mashed potatoes and chicken livers. The restaurant does a phenomenal job of plating the food and my meal looked (almost) too pretty to eat. My husband ordered the foie gras with roasted peaches and it was nothing short of amazing. Our waiter suggested for me to get the chicken livers on the side just in case I didn't like the dish. I took his suggestion even though I am not a picky eater. Turns out the chicken livers tasted terrific and the garnish reminded me of pot roast, but the chicken livers were more delicate. If the restaurant had been closer to our hotel we would have returned to try their award winning chicken. Note: The restaurant is fancy, but not snooty. We had just finished a walking tour in shorts and sandals and were worried we would be under-dressed at lunch, but everyone was super friendly and made no mention of our attire.

Huyen Lan L.

Yelp
I and my husband must have had an off night.  The previous time when we came was before Covid and everything was impeccable.  This time, not so much.  Service was terrible.  Not enough staff to handle the whole restaurant.  Our waiter was pretty much rude.  He practically spent 2 minutes to take the order and never came back to check on us.  The food was excellent, but the service really ruined the night.   Next time we will stay home and use their food delivery service.

Yelp
The best meal in Paris! We have came across this place while exploring Montmartre. What a gem! The experience was simply amazing. We got sitted at the bar - right infront of the kitchen. The kitchen looks spotless, the ingredients fresh and chef work was amazing. Food was so tasty - I can say that this has been the best meal in Paris! The service & foos is top notch, place has a great ambiance, and the service is amazing. If you are nearby, it is definitely worth to enjoy lunch or dinner here!

Yelp
As the name implies, it's very much a restaurant that celebrates the chicken. From appetizers with different types of poached egg or foie gras, to mains that feature all sorts of chicken preparations, to choices of dessert which include quite possibly the best lemon crumble in Paris, you'll find sustainably raised food, made with care and craft, at appropriate prices. That said, at lunch each day you can get the plat du jour for roughly 50% of what it would cost at dinner. So, stop by. It's at one of the higher points of Montmartre, so you will feel as though you have "earned" your delicious meal, especially if you walk up from the Blanche metro stop. For you food nerds, this is an Antoine Westermann restaurant, and as such, is featured in the Michelin Guide.

Yelp
This is a wonderful restaurant focusing on roasted chicken. My wife had initially made reservations but I thought that it would be to hard to get to and cancelled them. I was wrong, the restaurant is easily accessed from the metro Abbesses station in Montmartre and worth the effort getting to it. If I were able to rank this as 4.5/5 stars, I would, as the food was great. The mixed appetizer plate is fantastic and despite my wife's concerns, the standout was the chicken giblets with mixed vegetables and an artichoke base. The roast chicken was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The service was great and the staff welcoming.

Yelp
Awesome restaurant. Probably the best chicken I have ever eaten in my life. This place is off the beaten path and in a great neighborhood. You walk in and the setting has a good vibe. Good lighting to se the mood and a very helpful service staff. Hey have a very nice wine list with wines from the region. They also come out at the right temp and the gentle man serving us decanted the wine. Good add to the service. The food was fantastic. Great quality and great flavor. We had the Bressie chicken with the terrine, and poached egg to start. Very tasty. The side we had were the vegetable dish, which was cooked in the chicken broth, and the mac and cheese. All amazing dishes and I recommend all of them. The flavors and the wine pairing were top notch. I saw the desserts and they looked amazing. We did. It eat one as we needed to be rolled out of that place. We over are the main dishes. I would love to go back and try them.

Yelp
Wow. Delicious food! Specialize in different types of rare birds. We had the duck filet with marmalade sooo good and the poulle au pot. It was a chicken cooked in broth with veggies. Poulle au pot was great but duck was heavenly! Make sure you get a bottle of wine. We tried something brand new with a name we couldn't pronounce and it was awesome. Most of the wait staff speak limited or some English and can help you out if possible. Very authentic and unique dishes available. After dinner order and espresso and they bring out this delicious chocolate like nothing you've ever had.

Yelp
This is the type of restaurant that Yelp reviews often get wrong ... at least for us: 1) Close to a major tourist attraction (Sacre-Coeur 2) Restaurant that seems to target the tourist crowd with little regard for repeat customers. We made a reservation a few months before our trip to Paris. I was hesitant to eat so close to Sacre-Coeur as we strongly prefer good quality food over convenience, but after reading the glowing reviews on Yelp we decided to give it a try. We could not have been more disappointed. We did the entire bresse chicken. It was dry and overlooked. This was one of the most disappointing meals we have had in Paris. It was definitely the worst prepared chicken. The place seems to be primarily popular with tourists, which is understandable given the area.

Yelp
Man, that Rico knows his way around a coq. We chose Le Coq Rico for our first dinner in Paris at the recommendation of our concierge; it also happened to be our wedding anniversary. I thought maybe the restaurant wouldn't necessarily be "anniversary-worthy", but it exceeded my expectations. It's not a super fancy place, but it's very modern and chic, and boasts a lively, convivial atmosphere. Poultry is obviously the star of the show, but they do offer other options. But really, you're here for that glorious roasted chicken. It first starts with the bird itself, which are heritage chickens raised by local farmers. First cooked gently in a delicious stock, then finished off in the rotisserie, until the skin is burnished and caramel-y. What you're left with is quite possibly the best, most succulent roasted chicken you'll ever enjoy. Who says a roast chicken has to be boring? The chicken comes with a cone of hot, crispy frites and a simple Bibb lettuce salad, which are perfect accompaniments. We paired our splendid meal with an outstanding red Sancerre (we typically enjoy a white Sancerre, and had never heard of a red before) that we didn't finish at dinner, but our server was more than happy to package the rest of the bottle so that we could relish it later. Service was amiable, and the food was outstanding. I just found out there is a LCR in Manhattan, so I'm already planning a visit just to dine there.

Yelp
While searching for restaurants in Paris, I was intrigued by the numerous positive reviews on a restaurant that specialized in poultry. I decided I had to try this place out, and made reservations a few weeks in advance. My husband and I ended up having a feast for dinner at Le Coq Rico. We started off with an almond-crusted poached egg. The egg was perfectly poached, and the almond coating added a nice texture and flavor to it. However, it was pricey for such a small serving. For our main entree, we shared a whole chicken from the Bresse region along with French fries and salad. The chicken was unlike any other roasted chicken we've had. It was juicy and much more flavorful than the typical chicken. This was meant to serve 2-4 people--although we ate a lot, we were not able to finish everything in one sitting. For dessert, we had the Floating Island, which was essentially a ring of meringue floating on a layer of vanilla custard. The lightness of the meringue balanced out the richness of the custard--so delicious! Overall, dinner was pricey, but it was worth the it to experience the food and service. If only we could have chicken like this everyday!

Yelp
Great meal , great staff and in an interesting neighborhood too . I was looking for a great simple roast chicken and it did not disappoint.

Yelp
Third time eating here, love the options for poulet fermier. We had Bresse chicken, perfectly prepared. French fries could have been more crispy. The salad and vinaigrette were delicious, as were heirloom tomatoes. Server recommended an excellent Pouilly Fuisse that paired well w the meal. The only negative was a bizarre odor that came and went. We were initially seated near the bathroom and then moved to another room at our request where we didn't notice the odor. A lovely déjeuner.

Yelp
Omg if I could just have chicken in one place in the world this would be it! First off we didn't have reservations but they seated my family of 5 at the bar table. I wanted a glass of wine and the waiter picked a white for me that was so good my husband and I polished off the bottle (with some help from teenage daughters). I actually ordered the duck which was really good. But I tried the chicken from my husband and it was so fantastic and tender. Sitting at the bar we got to watch all our food being made as the kitchen is in front of the bar. It was a really fun experience and all meat products are from local farms as well as veggies. The gnocchi was also one of my favorites as it was cooked with olives and other spices. Mac and cheese was also a big hit. I would recommend this place to everyone, it is a small place so I recommend getting reservations first! And come hungry!! Fantastic chefs and wait staff.

Yelp
We were turned on to this place by the Lucky Peach (David Chang) guide to Paris. We were intrigued to get the "best rotisserie chicken in the word." It certainly delivered and they were very accommodating to a couple of tourists who showed up early and sweaty from having walked a couple miles in the July heat. We sat the bar facing the kitchen so we could keep an eye on our bird, but don't get seated at the very end near the rotisserie because it is very hot and you will start sweating through your shirt. It does take about an hour for your chicken because they put it on the rotisserie fresh. They will encourage you to get appetizers, but if it's just two people you shouldn't order anything because you will not be able to finish your dinner with it's sides. The chicken tasted delicious and juicy and had the good "chickeny" flavor that you can only get from a french bresse chicken. The macaronni and cheese was deliciously creamy, which I think is due to the addition of coconut cream. The fries were perfect. We had the floating dessert, which we forced ourselves to finish and might have been better than the one we eventually had at Paul Bocuse - in Lyon.

Yelp
Stop searching the web reviews for a place eat and make a reservation here! It was our last night in Paris and we were lucky enough to be staying right around the corner from this incredible restaurant, so we made a reservation and it did not disappoint. Although it looks unassuming, on a cobblestone road on top of the butte Montmartre, it will be packed so always call ahead. Do not be deceived by the poultry only menu. The meal is creative and tasty. The service incredible. When our table was running a bit behind the only waiter, also the person running the place, offered complimentary glasses of wine and we were seated at the bar overlooking a very small and busy open kitchen with 3 bustling chefs and a rotisserie. Service was terrific. Food was incredible (order the poultry soup - it was out of this world) and the duck was crazy good! The French couples all around us asked how we found the place...and were impressed which is how you know it's good. When in France always choose the place that specializes. Check the menu, if it's short, eat there! That means they have perfected it! Way to go Le Coq Rico! We will tell everyone we know to take a special trip out to Montmartre just to eat at your restaurant. Thank you for a fantastic last meal in Paris!

Yelp
This is a chicken place. They are great at chicken. It's expensive. That's the whole review in a few words. They have fancy farm raised birds, it seems European chickens are smaller than in the USA. We each got 1/4 chicken some salad to split and French fries and macaroni and cheese. Each portion was 24 euros. Which I feel is a lot for a very small 1/4 chicken. The drinks are expensive too. Good flavor. Just not worth it in my opinion.

Yelp
This was a great way to start our eating journey through Paris! So don't take the four stars badly! This place has GREAT food! But compared to some of my other meals in Paris, as i can't give them all 5 stars, I'd give this place a 4.5! We got to sit at the counter which was such a treat, it's super fun to be able to sit at the counter and watch things being prepared, plus interact with the chefs! Their fresh baked bread and butter was very good. Who am I kidding ALL the bread and better in Paris was good! I got the black truffle egg to start and it was SO YUMMY. It was my favorite thing I ate here!! Highly recommend! Then I had the quarter chicken with a side of vegetables. Though I enjoyed the chicken I will say the veggies were super duper yummy! All in all this is a great restaurant and I recommend you coming here if you're ever in Paris and in the mood for some great food and great fun and happen to love all things poultry!

Yelp
This was recommended to us by a Paris local and it did not disappoint. Quite literally the most spectacular chicken dinner I have ever had. We each had the quarter chicken with sides. The salad was delicious and lightly dressed. I preferred the fries to the macaroni gratin which was on the heavier side. Great portion size and friendly staff. We sat at the table but the bar area looked like a great option for watching the cooks at work.

Yelp
There are many birds that have given their lives to make Le Coq Rico. Let me say that they have not died in vain. They have given their lives for a righteous cause. For there is no place on earth that celebrates the chicken better than here. Absolutely amazing. Do not miss the chicken shepherds pie with morels. It's to die for! The roasted chicken has never been elevated to such a level. Bring three friends to share the whole roasted Bresse chicken. It's fantastic. In addition the staff are very friendly and helpful. If you're in Paris for more than 24 hours this should be on your list of places to try.

Yelp
I found this restaurant after looking through places to eat near the Montmarte area. It's a cute little restaurant - it looks like it's closed from the outside. It's near a Moulin Rouge restaurant that all the tourists take pictures with. We ordered: the Westermann goose foie gras - It was like a foie gras pastry. It was very good foie gras, but it was a lot of foie gras. I enjoy foie gras in small quantities, so this got a bit much at the end. But overall, the foie gras with the jelly and pastry all complemented very well. I wish I ordered the apple and foie gras instead because that resembles more of what I wanted to try. Fish with lemon sauce - I can't recall the name, but the fish was OK. This place is known for chicken, but I'm normally hesitant about ordering chicken when I eat out. I don't think the fish was worth the price. Almond & Hazelnut crusted chicken - This was my favorite dish of the three. This was actually VERY yummy. I enjoyed the almond and hazelnuts, which added a unique flavor to the chicken. The sauce was like a mushroom sauce and was also very yummy. I was very impressed, and my parents also enjoyed the uniqueness of the dish. Apricot cobbler w/ Lavender ice cream - The apricot was very sour but the ice cream complemented it well. I ordered it because of its interesting mix, but this probably isn't something I'd recommend. I'd recommend sticking to chicken when you come to this restaurant. It's good and the taste is definitely different than something you'd get back in LA.

Yelp
Currently sitting at the chefs table/ bar as I'm writing this review... I have never in my life have had chicken the was crispy on the outside so so tender and moist on the inside..the chefs and cooks worked their magic in front of us as we dined in foie gras and a perfectly cooked leek salad. From the moment we walked in our server was so politely and was on top of everything and made sure we were happy... I've spent 10 days in France and this is by far the best meal I have ever had.. MERCI BEAUCOUP

Yelp
My husband and I came to le coq Rico after visiting the sacre coeur and it was perfect! We came without reservations (although reservations are highly recommended) and lucked out with a table by the window! Without any hesitation, we went for one of their specialities: Le poulet Gâtinais selon arrivage. A full bird served for 2-3 people and a choice of frites, creamy Mac and cheese, or a vegetarian cassoulet as well as a fresh salade vert. All of this for 75 euros! (Depending on the exact breed of bird, the prices varied (e.g. The bresse breed chicken was approximately ~95 euros) After ordering, we had a few appetizers - but be warned not to eat too much bread or too big of an appetizer because it really is a plump and juicy bird that is more than plenty for 2 people for dinner. However, you may be tempted to nibble since you will be able to smell and see the aromatic chickens being cooked in their contemporary open chicken. Also, it takes 45 minutes from the time of your order for your chicken to be ready. So try to have some self control! Apart from the amazingly juicy, oversized heritage breed chicken we feasted on - the ambience was white table cloth but not overbearingly pretentious. Wait staff were friendly and spoke English, as well as were attentive and always cordial. Prices are not cheap, but neither are they unreasonable. You really get a good value and gourmet meal by French standards and can see many locals from around Paris coming into eat for their regular orders of chicken. I definitely would come back and also bring a friend or two to enjoy!

Yelp
We had a terrible experience on this place, my husband got pretty sick after eating here. We noticed the food we got served was different than others, After reading reviews in trip advisor I realized that if you look foreigner they will not serve the recently cooked chicken but the leftovers. I let the hostess of my hotel know about the bad experience and got an apologetic letter and an invitation to comeback from the chef. It was nice but I would not risk it. Save yourself from a bad experience or make sure you get the recently cook chicken.

Yelp
Foodman heard about this tribute to poultry and was so glad we finally got to enjoy an evening at Le Coq Rico. We had soft boiled eggs to start, a pate and the the main show - chickens from Brest and Avignon with a salad and frites. The white burgundies paired with the meal perfectly. Service was attentive and paced the meal beautifully. Bravo.

Yelp
Delicious Roast Chicken with salad, frites and mac n cheese, even though I still think Zuni Cafe is better. Whole Roast chicken takes almost an hour. Our server suggested us to have a small chicken instead (which counted as their quarter chicken), that only takes 15-20 min to prepare. It was plenty for 2 ppl.

Yelp
After returning from over two weeks in France, Luxemberg, Germany, and The Netherlands; I can say my dinner at Le Coq Rico was my favorite! The staff was wonderful and they found us a seat for two when we wandered in from the street. They were very friendly. The food was excellent, delicious- HAVE the macaroni and cheese!

Yelp
If you're visiting Paris you must go to the quaint little village of Montmarte. If you go to Montmarte, the brusse chicken from Le Coq Rico cannot be missed. The juicy, spit roasted chicken is expertly cooked. They present the chicken in its whole roasted form before cutting it up into manageable pieces. While some people might say this is just another roasted chicken, I say that it's a delight to experience this kind of expert artisanal cooking, in the quaint little village. You've got to wait 45 min for the chicken, so be sure to order the chicken tartine while you wait. Best tartine in Paris. Side dishes left a little to be desired...but that's okay, the chicken is the star.
