San Francisco’s Hottest New Restaurants, November 2024

"The chef behind formerly Michelin-starred Baumé now leads the kitchen at Le Parc Bistrobar, located inside the Galleria Park Hotel in Union Square. Expect chef Bruno Chemel’s takes on French classics, including escargots Baumé, or faithful recreations such as the les moules marinieres (steamed mussels in garlic cream sauce). There is also a happy hour menu that spans both food and drink, that runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday." - Dianne de Guzman, Lauren Saria

San Francisco’s New Restaurant Openings

"This fancy French bistro, from the team behind the now-closed Baumé in Palo Alto, occupies two stories of the Galleria Park Hotel in Union Square. Expect dishes like salmon and escargot pot pie, bavette de boeuf grillé, and ratatouille. " - ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1

There’s a New French Restaurant From a Fine Dining Pro Opening in Downtown San Francisco - Eater SF

"Chef Bruno Chemel is coming to San Francisco to open Le Parc Bistrobar at 185 Sutter Street, attached to the Galleria Park Hotel in San Francisco. The restaurant will serve French staples including salmon tartare and coq au vin, wine, and cocktails, with a vibe of a “mid-20th century Parisian-style brasserie.”" - Paolo Bicchieri

A pleasant surprise. Great cocktail list, classics plus sections of Lillet and Chartreuse cocktails. The escargot was great, with sauteed fennel and no fiddly shells. Chicken roulade was moist and flavorful. (Surely this is an OK place to use "moist?") My steak was perfectly crusty on the outside and tender and pink on the inside, and the fries were my favorite. Oh, plus molten goat cheese in honey on crostini for dessert.

I finally found a worthy French restaurant in my neighborhood. Having lived in Paris, I’ve been spoiled by the high standards of French cuisine. So when I came back to the states, I was let down by many so-called French food establishments. What many consider good are just average. But Le Parc is a step above and made me reminisce my time in France. The little gems salad, oxtail, fries and mousse were all delicious. They also offer Saint-Géron for sparkling, which is nicer than other restaurants. Can’t wait to come back for the escargot, onion soup tart, poulet and everything else on the menu. Merci beaucoup, Le Parc!

Google
It was our first time and so very lovely! All 4 cocktails we tried were incredible!! We started with the mussels and the salmon crudo which were my two favorite dishes of the night! Our entrees were the braised oxtail and chicken, delicious again! The desert trio really completed our experience! Not only was the service some of the best in the city but the food was devine!

Google
Genuine French food, french speaking staff and guests. On a Friday at 1pm, 4 of 9 tables were occupied, bar area had no one seated. Mussels had quite a strong seafood taste, might be a difference from Australia where the seafood tastes more mild, one mussel had tiny bits of sand. Salmon tartare was excellent and a small entree serving. Frites was overly generous in size, I’d prefer vegetables but menu says no changes allowed. French martini was too sweet for my liking. Nice service, decor and vibe. Good service that left you alone but checked if you were ok. The food issues were due to what I ordered, not the restaurant, so still 5 stars. Or 4.8 if Google allowed more detail.

Google
Lots to like about this restaurant. Service was warm and friendly, great cocktails and a nice ambience. Having said that, food was solid but nothing stood out. Charcuterie plate to begin with was disappointing, lacked any real depth of flavor. Steak frites and salmon were cooked well, temperature on both was spot on.

Google
Surprised more people haven’t discovered this place yet. I don’t usually write reviews but this was truly a hidden gem and one of the best new restaurants I’ve tried in SF. The mussels and bread and tarte tartin were incredible, but every dish was really good. Great ambience and delightful service as well.

I very seldom hand out 5 stars but Le Parc Bistro checks all boxes. I love the interior, the setting as you walk in you feel like the world moves slower and you want to grab a drink and a bite to eat and enjoy life. It's not pretentious but it has class and it's stylish. Chef Bruno is a wizard and his skills show as each dish was a little miracle for our taste buds. The duck appetizer, melted on the tongue. The salad is so simple yet so distinct and refreshing. And the home run the oxtail over mash potatoes. That dish is the ultimate expression of French cooking at its best. The service was nicely timed, friendly, personal and witty. What a place to enjoy with friends or to forget the world by yourself. I d go back in a heartbeat.

Google
Solo dinner at the end of a work trip. The service was attentive but not overly attentive. I thoroughly enjoyed everything and look forward to making this a regular tradition, along with my stay at the Galleria Park Hotel. A cocktail, two appetizers and dessert was right at $99 which I thought was reasonable given the high-quality of everything.

Yelp
The food was wonderful and so was the service!! We tried the octopus and cucumber salad special and it was great as well

Yelp
Amazing hidden gem tucked within the Galleria park hotel. The dinner menu is small but you can't go wrong with anything you order. We devoured their octopus salad daily special. Spinach ravioli was nothing like I've tasted before and was delicious. They did great with the steak as well. Extensive drink menu with lots to pair with your entree. Great service! Ambiance feels like fine dining, was also pretty quiet at 8 PM on a Thursday evening.

Yelp
Overall a pretty good experience at this establishment. There are many french restaurants in sf, and this place is on the high-end side --- perhaps more of a "fine dining experience." The establishment is rather large; upon first walking in I thought it was small, but then realized that was just the bar area once we were directed upstairs for our reservation which was a much larger seated dining area. Again; fine dining ambiance - everything was orderly, clean, and well kept. The establishment was surprisingly rather empty for a Saturday night; no reservations needed. They have a large list of cocktails, I ordered the manhattan and it was good. While the cocktails might be slightly over pried, the wines by the glass are actually reasonably priced. As for the food -- the menu had fairly standard offerings you'd expect at a french restaurant. I ordered the steak frites and thought the steak was cook spot on. My partner ordered the mussels and they were also good. We both thought the fries were great, however we noticed they used A LOT of salt. While the dishes was on the pricier side given the caliber of the establishment, it actually didn't seem too bad. The only thing that gave me an "ick" about this place is that they include a 20% tip in the bill. I actually thought our server was great and the service in general was outstanding -- I would have naturally left 20% or more tip, however I just don't like when establishment do this. I can understand for large parties, but a mandatory tip for a table of 2? Overall, a good experience -- the food and drinks were good and the ambiance was nice. Perhaps this place won't go down as my favorite french restaurant in the city, but definitely worth checking out if you want a finer dining experience (and are thus willing to pay a premium price for said experience accordingly).

Yelp
First time I went here and took my daughter for a dinner. I was very impressed and will definitely go back to bring family here. Highly recommended!!! Best French Bistro in SF!!!! The Chef and owners behind the famous Michelin starred Baume. The flavors in each dish were perfectly balanced, and the ingredients tasted incredibly fresh. Each bite was a delight, and the presentation just blew us away. Hands down to the one and only Le Parc Bistrobar! SF 's hidden gem.

Yelp
What's that?" said Ron, pointing at a large dish of some sort of shellfish stew that stood beside a large steak-and-kidney pudding. "Bouillabaisse," said Hermione. "Bless you," said Ron. "It's French," said Hermione -- J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire A beautiful room, tasty French food, solid wine list; one cannot go wrong at Le Parc Bistrobar Met up with a longtime friend, business colleague and fellow yelper a few months back and we enjoyed this restaurant's happy hour very much. It was Salesforce Week so a lot of restaurants were full. Plus the financial district has lost more than a few sit down places. So after walking a few blocks, we found Le Parc and they had many tables free, some with lovely views. We shared several starter plates, particularly enjoyed the fries and soup, plus a lovely Côtes du Rhône by the glass. Service was friendly and professional, plus again the room is gorgeous. Located inside the Galleria Park Hotel but with its own entrance, restrooms are located away from restaurant inside the hotel. Recommended!

Yelp
Le Parc bistro is attached to a hotel. It really gives off old school classy vibes with dark wood walls and white cloth tables. The service is 5 stars excellent. The bartender even leaves the bar and talks to the customers making sure they like what they are drinking. The waitresses really try to connect with you and are super friendly. It's expensive but not overly expensive. The atmosphere does scream date night. And possibly fancy work outing. I expect this place to be busier than it is, the food quality and service is amazing. I think this is a newer place in the past year. My sole was excellent. It was so rich in flavor and juicy. Huge portion! My friend liked his salmon but I felt it was a little fishy. The salmon tartare app was very good as well and a decent sized portion. The desserts weren't overly sweet and they were a shareable size. Though my dessert said pistachio ice cream but it mostly tasted like raspberry and passion fruit. The drinks were excellent and very strong. It's $19 for a cocktail and they have an extensive cocktail menu. My favorite was studio 54 which is pistachio liquor and Midori. It's a pricey restaurant but it's not over priced based on the quality of food, service and atmosphere.

Yelp
A beautiful, tasty French restaurant! Definitely order the chicken here - it's one of the most worth it items you can order on the menu. It honestly surprised me how good chicken could taste. The cocktails were also super good. Loved the espresso martini and French 75. Overall a great place to dine at for an occasion, or just a nicer day out.

Yelp
This place was amazing. I'm surprised it wasn't more busy. The cocktails list had so many yummy drinks is was hard to choose just one. The upstairs area has a nice bar area with an attached dining room. Food was amazing and service was also on point. Glad I finally went here and will be back.

Yelp
4.5 STARS You know the rich rich that you vicariously live through because you aren't ballin' or have a sugar daddy or OF money? I remember my friend posting their tab for Baumé (Palo Alto)....$1,400+ for two (before shrinkflation). And, half of it was for wine because wine pairing was apparently required and they can't even drink wine. So, basically they dropped $700 pp for the food BEFORE tip. Oh you know, just a casual weekday dinner for them. WILD. Well, the Owner-Chef Bruno Chamel of now defuct Baumé has opened an affordable French bistro in the city with most entrees in the $30s. And, wines by the glass at $13 max. Now we're talking...a STEAL from a chef who in the past was awarded two Michelin stars eight years in a row! Soft opening is Le Parc Bistrobar in the Galleria Park Hotel (formerly Gaspar Brasserie). Currently open for dinner only with lunch service to come. Starting July 15th, they'll have happy hour from 3 pm - 5 pm. Rezzies available on Toast but walk-ins are accepted (large space). M E N U French Bistro Cuisine using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Full bar. Corkage fee: $45. 6% SF mandate. F O O D * Tartare de Saumon: Salmon crudo, lemon, taro ($21) // 4 Stars: https://tinyurl.com/jjf93j93 Salmon poke nachos with cucumbers, a dollop of citrusy foam, and crunchy taro chips (a little too thick tho). The salmon was hella fresh and buttery... such an unexpected app coming from a French bistro. * Pot Pie D'Escargot: Escargots, garlic, parsley, brick ($19) // 3 stars: https://tinyurl.com/r5uh48ek Tender snails simmered in a brothy sauce and topped with [brick] cracker. It was fine but too salty and I would have preferred the puff pastry crown (noted on online menu). * Queues de Boeuf au Vin Rouge: Braised oxtail, red wine, carrots, pomme puree ($35) // 5 stars: https://tinyurl.com/bddnzz4w A rustic dish, the braised oxtails were meltingly tender in a flavorful red-wine sauce with soft carrots and crisp bokchoy. Served over deliciously rich, creamy potato puree. Simple, hearty, and satisfying. * Bavette de Bouef Grillé: 8 oz. Grilled Flap Steak w/ béarnaise sauce ($38) // 5 Stars: https://tinyurl.com/mr2fawdw --Requested medium rare Perfectly red and tender with a good sear from the grill. As flap steak can be chewy, I was pleasantly surprised at how it nearly melted in our mouths. The silky smooth béarnaise with a kiss of tang made it even more bomb. They ran out of the obligatory side of frites tho. =( * Oeufs à la Neige: Floating island, anglaise sauce, caramel ($12) // 4 Stars: https://tinyurl.com/43wyhdjy A classic French dessert - fluffy clouds of poached meringue floating over a vanilla-y sauce. Enjoyed the almonds for texture. You're basically eating air so it's almost calorie free! J/k! S E R V I C E Refined, very kind, and approachable staff. It was nice to see owner-chef's wife greeting guests at the hostess stand. Prompt food service for 5 pm dinner rezzies (in/out in an hour). A M B I A N C E Sexy date night vibes with vintage fixtures and dark burgundy leather banquettes (similar to their predecessor). Two-level resto with two bars that can accommodate over 100 people. P A R K I N G Hotel valet: $27 for 90 minutes + $6 for every 30 minutes thereafter. Garage next door is $7 every 30 minutes. Overall, I know a lot of people have been avoiding going to Union Square (*raises hand*)...but if you never had a chance to taste Chef Bruno's food, now you can without breaking your wallet!

Yelp
A shockingly-good "casual" follow-up from the chef at Baume (when it had two Michelin stars) and Chez TJ (also, two stars). This is French cooking at its finest, with snails that are soft (not the weird mushroom-like ones you get at most places), where the salmon tartare comes with a citrus foam, and where the fish is seared so perfectly (and coated in butter) that you'll remember it a day later - not just because you're lactose intolerant, but because it was so good. So why the four stars? Well... there's limited options, and dietary restrictions are NOT accommodated - that makes for a nightmare for a lot of diners. The restaurant is still picking up, and I suspect that maybe, just maybe, this could elevate itself and allow for more options. It's clear why he had two stars (and why he was so upset when he lost them). It really is a great meal.

Yelp
So let me start by saying I imagine raising my rating to 5 stars in the near future. As I understand, it was their first weekend, so this may explain a few "bumps" in our experience (no french fries, no steak, no latte or coffee - just espresso), which I am willing to write off to growing pains. Hubby, brother, and I went on Friday night. Started at the bar with some fantastic cocktails and a very friendly bartender (on the first floor). We then moved upstairs for dinner. Hubby and brother had "good" food, but I apparently was the lucky winner with my food (hence my focus). I started with escargot "pie" which was the most unique serving I've ever had. Freshly sautéed in butter and leeks, so it was light and fresh! Next, because I was going to order steak but found out it wasn't available, I switched to sole meunière which as the most fabulous sole I've ever had, anywhere. The bread service side was also fantastic and worth the extra cost. We agreed that this has the potential to be a great restaurant and will give it a return visit in the next couple of months.

Yelp
Ordered a kir and they used lemon juice in addition to cassis liquor. Wrong. Ordered the liver mousse and it tasted bitter given it had too much alcohol added. Wrong. Ordered rolled chicken and the side was a few stir fried veggies, which like chinese food. Wrong. Ordered the chocolate mousse and it was grainy not velvety. Wrong. They added a 6% SF mandate charge and 20% service charge by default.

Yelp
Great, new French place in downtown. Love the small and cheaper option on wine. Can have 3 different wines with dinner and it equals a glass and a half. Our server was a great tour guide to the wine list. The food is so well done. Nice to see someone who knows what there are doing and loves to share with us mere mortals. Will be back.

Yelp
We had our anniversary dinner here and it was excellente!! The interior is classic and beautiful, the perfect setting for a special occasion. We had the mussels w/ fries, steak, cheese w/ honey and the dessert trio- all SO delicious. The staff were hospitable and super warm. We also met the chef who was gracious and kind. It was a fantastic experience. I need to find an excuse to go again soon! Hmmm, maybe for my sister's birthday coming up! Hurry before this place becomes super popular and book your rezzies now!

Yelp
Our Experience at Le Parc was nothing short of stellar. Warm hospitality, excellent service, glittering ambiance, stylish appointments, and - most of all - a culinary force majeur. The food was fantastic, delicate flavors and stunning presentation. THANK YOU for such a lovely twinkly experience, accompanied by luscious cocktails and accommodating reception.

Yelp
Food Service Ambiance Great French restaurant Parking easy Romantic for a date night Our bartender was great and the service. Went on a Friday for dinner it was amazing. I will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
We had a great night at the beautiful Le Parc Bistrobar. The service was impeccable and so friendly with excellent recommendations. We shared the onion tart, the heirloom tomatoes salad and the sole meunière. I am French and can be quite discerning/picky about French food in the US, and everything was delicious. Authentic with a twist, so many flavors, everything perfectly cooked. The ambiance is very chic yet warm, and all in all we really enjoyed our experience.

Ms W.

Yelp
Le Parc Bistro has a great location between FiDi and Un Sq. We enjoyed the Onion Tart to start and a bright little gem salad. Entree was Sole Meunière which I shared with my friend, the size of the entree was enough to share, great suggestion by our waiter. We added a side of broccolini at his suggestion, which was well executed, crunchy but tender. The proportions were perfect for us. Love it when wait staff is on their game. He also recommended a delicious French white varietal to pair that I'd never tried before, Picpoul from Languedoc region. The food is very good, the Sole was tender and the sauce complimented this delicate fish without overpowering it. I had a taste of my friend's yummy thin crispy French fries, I'm definitely going back for those. The atmosphere is cozy with comfy banquettes and a warm glow from the subtle lighting, so important for an evening experience. It's a nice dining option if you're going to a show at one of theaters in Union Square or meet a friend for lunch in Fi Di.

Yelp
Horrible service. Server (who claimed she was the owner) knew nothing about the cocktail menu and when I suggested she consult with the bartender, she flatly stated "you don't need to have attitude ". My cocktail was the tiniest ever and cost $24.00. When we asked for a real server, she stated "No one is willing to serve you as you are difficult". Service was slow the entire time and my meal arrived cold (cold french fries are not the best). I did not bother sending it back knowing the ramifications. The check had 20% ($95+) service charge which explains, at least in part, why the owner did not withhold her nasty comments. A disappointing meal from the get go and had it not been for the other couple whom we were treating, we would have walked out before ordering. We will not be returning.

Vaughan O.

Yelp
One of the best Steak Frites I've ever had. Good service, and cozy atmosphere. A welcome refuge on a business trip.

Jonathan B.

Yelp
This is a great restaurant; it's a bit like Bouchon--great chef takes classic bistro dishes, sources high quality ingredients and executes them extremely well. The mussels, little gem salad, onion tart, frites and salmon tartare were all exceptional. The interior is really well done as well. This place doesn't get the hype it deserves because it exists in a city that values inventiveness over quality, but it's really good.

Ant B.

Yelp
superbe restaurant! excellent food and service ! ambiance is refined and feel confortable!!! love the Bar and lounge upstairs, marvelous cocktails selection ! enjoyed onion tart and Duck rillettes . steak frites and brai oxtail with red wine and juniper is amazing !!! cafe liegeois is a good memory back in France!!! everyone should know that place !!! just amazing !!!

Yelp
What a gem: we had a pretty much perfect dinner here. Great food (and outstanding quality/price ratio), delicious - and affordable - wines by the glass, cozy & warm ambience, and impeccable, friendly service.

Patrick S.

Yelp
Just have lunch at Le Parc Bistrobar SF Nice and friendly hostess, Foods as very nice presentation and tasty French. Reasonably pricey. I will be back to try something else. Don't forget to try the chocolate mousse.

Albert M.

Yelp
Came in on a holiday weeknight. Newer place and still a bit under discovered. Ambiance is 10/10. Nice music, great furnishings, and good lighting. Service, starting with a delightful hostess, was on point - attentive but not intrusive. Food was great. Between the two of us, a soup, salad, and entree made for a good meal. Don't miss the French fries. Wines by the glass are the best value in the city. Will ha-poly return.

D W.

Yelp
Intimate classic French bistro. Great food, service and ambience. Onion tart is a must.

Matthew J.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic! The steak was perfectly cooked--juicy, tender, and full of flavor. The fries were golden, crispy, and seasoned to perfection. Great atmosphere, attentive service, and an overall delightful dining experience. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Wonderful food. Beautiful jewel box of a restaurant. Snarky service. Automatic 20% tip highlighted the snark. I would have tipped more just bc of the food, and I know how hard it is to wait tables. But, this isn't Paris. And the snark wasn't remotely justified. Manners, people.

Bao Kim T.

Yelp
We just had lunch here and it was EXCELLENT! The service was outstanding and the food was top notch. We enjoyed it so much that we already made another reservation for next month. We live in San Jose and would make the drive to SF because we appreciate a good meal in such a gem of a restaurant.

Brian C.

Yelp
Hard pass. Horrible service. Waitress knew nothing about the menu or the bar. Initial drinks, and it continued slow through appetizers, main, and final check. Also, the check had 20% service fee built in. Just an all around disappointing meal. I'd strongly encourage any finding another restaurant.

Yelp
This place is a great deal if you love fish. For the price of a dinner at a so-so mid-priced restaurant, we got world class cooking in a Paris bistro environment with very friendly service. - Parking. We had a 6 PM reservation for Saturday night. Parking was a breeze we found free street parking across the street and there were plenty of empty spots. Meters here stop at 6 PM. - Ambience. The restaurant is like you've walked into a Paris bistro - there is a nice hum but you can have a dinner conversation with no problem. - Service. Very friendly and warm, attentive without being over present. - Charcuterie Platter 3/5. This was the only miss of the evening. Not bad just nothing special. - Mussels w/Frites 5/5. Every mussel was fat and juicy - no duds. First place I've been to where the taste of the sauce permeates the mussel in a good way. Fries were perfectly crisp. One suggestion - order the excellent bread to sop up the sauce. - Salmon 6/5. - perfectly cooked!! Soft, silky, with a lovely crispy skin. Served with good ratatouille. - Value - all this food plus a cocktail and two glasses of wine came to $135. Excellent value for the quality of the cooking and the overall experience

B G.

Yelp
Exceptionally good meal. Quiet and new, and hoping that it will take hold as the food and service was really terrific. Highlights were the salmon crudo (great balance of flavor and texture), the onion pastry appetizer (super flavorful), and delicious, light, and flavorful sole meuniere. Dark chocolate mouse was a really delicious, and a wide variety of good wine options in the $40-$50 per bottle range.

Ruth K.

Yelp
We loved our dinner here. There were three of us and all the food we tried was delicious. The service was attentive and friendly. The drink menu was fascinating. The prices were reasonable for this quality of food and wine. We will defintely be back.

David F.

Yelp
we were disappointed with our visit. I wanted to write a good review for a new place, but I cannot. We were there on a Friday evening, it was pretty slow. The space is very nice. Service was just OK. They were a bit slow in bringing our cocktails. Also we were half way done with main course before the wine was poured, that really annoys me. I want wine while I eat my dinner. The main issue was the food. We were disappointed with the charcuterie plate. It had only had 2 meats, a sausage and a ham/prosciutto. For $26, I expect more of a selection, some pate etc. There were pickled vegetables on the plate. Other than gherkin , I've never seen this on a charcuterie plate. We had the Faux Fillet for 2. Again a disappointment. we ordered medium rare, what arrived was medium well. We sent it back, this time it came out cooked properly, there was a nice char on the outside. However the cut of meat was not that good. Again for $82, I expected a better piece of beef. The chocolate mousse was good. The other 2 people enjoyed their meal: onion tart, avocado salad, sole & bavette steak. I guess we just ordered the wrong thing. Perhaps they are still getting their footing after 2 months.
