La Crémaillère

We dined at this French-inspired restaurant, and while the food was truly delicious, the overall experience had a few rough edges. The ambiance is lovely - elegantly decorated to transport you straight to Paris. The lighting, decor, and even the background music create a charming European atmosphere. The menu features beautifully written French dish names that add to the immersive feel. We started with a light and flavorful asparagus salad, followed by a perfectly cooked pork chop served with creamy mashed potatoes and fresh green peas. Everything was thoughtfully prepared and tasted amazing. The real standout, though, was the dessert - absolutely incredible and beautifully presented. Whole new experience if you will. However, the service wasn’t quite as polished as the setting. When my wife tried to order by reading the French name of the dish directly from the menu, our waiter didn’t seem to understand what she meant, which led to a slightly awkward and unexpected moment in such a themed restaurant. Also the area where we were seated was quite noisy, making it difficult to hear my friends and enjoy the visit. In short, the food exceeded our expectations, and the setting was charming, but the service kept the experience from being fully relaxing. Still, if you’re after great French cuisine with a side of Parisian flair, this spot is well worth a visit.

My wife and I dined at La Crémaillère last Friday to celebrate a milestone — her retirement after 30 years as a nurse practitioner in public health, including the long COVID years. We chose the restaurant because we had enjoyed it years ago under prior ownership and were looking forward to returning. There were several positives right from the start. Valet and coat check were warm and welcoming, and we were seated promptly in a cozy corner table. The dining room remains lovely and comfortable. The kitchen clearly shows skill. My wife’s Dover sole ($75) was beautifully prepared and handled with the finesse a delicate fish deserves. I started with sweetbreads ($25). The larger piece was nicely done, though the two smaller pieces were slightly overcooked. My squab special ($47) was flavorful and well prepared. Desserts were enjoyable as well, though the tart crust was quite firm and crumbly. Where the evening slipped was in the service. Our waiter appeared understandably focused on larger tables ordering cocktails and bottles of wine, but we felt somewhat overlooked in our corner. A request for an additional roll required two asks and a fairly long wait, and we also waited quite a while for the check. One curious detail stood out on the bill. I ordered seltzer with very little ice and received four small pours during the evening. The check reflected four separate $7 charges — $28 total — for what appeared to be gun-dispensed sparkling water, as no bottled product was presented. As someone who has spent many years in hospitality, it was hard not to notice that the seltzer ended up costing more than the sweetbreads — which, as any cook knows, require quite a bit of preparation before they ever reach the pan. La Crémaillère still has a charming setting and a capable kitchen. With more consistent attention to service — and perhaps a second look at the sparkling water policy — the overall experience could better match the potential of the restaurant. A small thought from someone who has spent a lifetime around kitchens: when the carbonated tap water costs more than the sweetbreads, it might be time to revisit the math.

I had a superb dinner tonight with my wife and another couple. Our server Mario was truly exceptional and our dinners were delicious. The beet salad and crab cake started us off and were excellent. I had the Chilean Sea Bass and my wife the Filet Mignon. Great taste, cooked to my liking, all with Mario's very attentive service. For dessert I had the Grand Mariner Soufflé with a cappuccino and the nice pastry's that they brought to us were very thoughtful...and yummy. They deserve 5-stars because everything from the start to the finish was a delectable and memorable experience. Thank you!!!

Well-prepared, classic fancy French cooking, and a nice cellar list, too. They will have small twists (popular, seasonal), but you always get options fitting the old school style: savory and sweet souffles, snails in herb butter, foie gras, sweetbreads, filet of sole, various medium rare meats, etc. The positive surprise to me was the fish, which I don't always expect to be this carefully made in a "country" restaurant. It can be fun to dress up for a date night, but in case you are a walk-in or visiting, the "jacket required" rule for men doesn't appear to be strictly enforced.

Doesn't particularly stand out. Love the little fish pillows in the entryway couch. And the chicken sculptures. For the offered menu it is pricey, the bill came out to 400$ for three. For example a plate appetizer of 4 large shrimp is 25$ with sauce, abundant ice and 4 lemon slices. Though it was tasty. Nothing on the main menu, non appetizer offers were vegan. Plenty of parking. We were there for father's day, the restaurant had plenty of staff, and wasn't too packed. But it did require a reservation, which we made.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at La Cremaillere and I must say, it was an absolutely unforgettable experience! From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the enchanting ambiance. The quaint French atmosphere, complete with delightful service and soft lighting, transported me to a quaint French village. What truly stole the show were the incredible culinary creations that graced our table. The duck and lamb chop I indulged in were cooked to perfection, bursting with flavors that left me craving for more. The meat was tender, juicy, and paired perfectly with the accompanying sauces and sides… Let's talk about the soufflé, oh my goodness! It was an absolute masterpiece and surely the best I've ever tasted, not only within La Cremaillere but in the entire country! Chef Thomas Burke's expertise shone brightly in this light, airy, and incredibly flavorful creation. It was as if time froze while I savored every spoonful. Highly recommend the chef’s tasting menu and La Cremaillere restaurant!

Lovely fixed price brunch for Bastille Day. The chef is gone but a loyal staff remains along with an excellent new chef.

Since we moved to the area we have been looking for a new favourite restaurant. We wanted something with good food, a nice but relaxing atmosphere, and staff that make you feel welcome. We found everything we were looking for and more. La Crémaillère has become our go to for special events and date night. We go 1-2 times a month minimum and the menu is constant, but has enough new items and options to keep guests coming back for me.

We have been going to LaCremallere for 30 years, just once or twice per as we live on Long Island NY. It remains excellent and authentically French. The decor is the same and hope they never HAVE to change it since the fire. The service is excellent and friendly and the offerings at lunch are small but all delicious with a nice variety. I think the building is 280 years old, so it is quaint and historical. It is amazing how many French Restaurants are in this area now, while NYC has decreased by the number and Long Island which never had many is down to just about zero. This to us is a destination restaurant and if you haven't tried it now is a nice time as the leaves change color.

Outstanding dining experience in a French atmosphere. The hospitality and service is unrivaled. From the moment we walked in the door until the moment we left, we were treated as guests in their home. The food is simply amazing! Everything was perfect. I was in need of French food and I wanted a very specific dish. We were excited to try this place. Our party was welcomed by the staff. The place is kind of a hidden gem. We were celebrating a special occasion. We shared a starter and had some fries. We also ordered two mains. The scallops were delicious! We ordered dessert to share. This place is very popular. The tables were never empty.

A superior destination/celebration restaurant. I have been there three times since the end of August and each and every time the food was fantastic and the service superb, gracious without being obsequious and in your face. My very favorite Sweetbreads on their menu and everything our party of six tasted and devoured was truly delicious.

A decade or two ago this restaurant used to be as good as it gets in suburban French cuisine. On my last visit recently I and my dinner companion were unhappily surprised at its downfall. We had a very poor experience indeed. My meal was frankly inedible, beginning with the appetizer. His meal was only mediocre, overcooked and unappealing. Brown butter sauce on everything made the meals ugly as well as disgusting. They stinted on garnishes. The whole experience was depressing. A $60 steak should be delicious. Tasted more like the dinner you'd get at a 2-star hotel restaurant in Schenectady. Now we know why the place was nearly empty and I mean fewer than 4 tables. Blech!

Home run. My wife and I dined here last night with another couple. Classy place to get dressed up for. Converted old farmhouse with wood beamed ceiling and high polished stone floor. The walls are hand painted murals of French people. Menu is straightforward - two courses for $90. Starters we tried were lobster and caviar with Pernod sauce 2 this was unstoppable although not really French. And then everyone else ordered this French pastry with a hole in the middle that they put lobster and other stuff. Delicious. For mains we had filet with foie and this was one of the best cooked filets I've had in a long time and my wife had the sea bass special which was outstanding. Nice wine list which had a surprising number of good French Bordeauxs for $65-90 range. We also started with espresso martinis which were awesome. Desert was crème brûlée and chocolate soufflé. Really nice

Best of the Best, Charming warm cozy atmosphere with amazing service and food. Truly European service. Beautiful presentation of food (see photos of 1 dish). We splurged on the Chef's Tasting menu with wine pairings that were to die for We drove from Oxford, CT and we will do it again!!

One of the very best in all categories in the Greenwich/Bedford area. We dine there frequently and are always happy with the experience. The food is fantastic. The service is uniformly good.

we had dinner here Saturday March 30th. Below is a copy of the email I sent the following day (April 1) It has yet to be responded to. Note this restaurant is now called Le Poisson... Good morning... We dined at Le Poisson this past Saturday evening. To say it was a disappointing experience is an understatement. We arrived (party of 3)on time for our dinner reservation at 7:45. We were told to wait in the salon as our table wasn't ready. We sat and watched and waited while others were seated immediately upon entering. I had to ask about our table and was told soon. We were given complimentary drinks (1 of us doesn't drink). We were finally seated at 8:05 in a banquette covered in crumbs. Our server greeted us with , do you want water. There was never an apology from anyone regarding our wait. We sat for another 20 minutes without menus. We had to ask for them. While the salad was fresh and the oysters were excellent, the lamb was mediocre, the fish was cold. My bouillabaisse was very good but hard to eat without a spoon. We had eaten here previously when it was La Cremallere and it was the complete opposite experience. We aren't sure what changed but in this case (in our experience) change was not for the better

The food is great, but it's expensive. I have had several meals there, and the menu has a wide selection of meats, fishes, and salads. In addition, the desserts are divine. My family and I have gone there to celebrate special occasions. I believe the restaurant takes all kinds of credit cards. I also think they have valet parking. I think I had a chocolate souffle there.

Exceptional cuisine from the untouchable Chef Thomas Burke. This guy is doing very special things you wouldn't expect to see outside of NYC. Unparalleled eclectic and progressive classic French cuisine... Chef Thomas rotates the menu and never ceases to amaze me with the French classics some of which have a modern spin to them. The wine list boasts many rare once in a lifetime gems at reasonable prices. A true time capsule with its magnificent old world decor and charm. Every trip to La Crem is a unique dining experience with exceptional service. My wife and I eat here regularly and I can truly say that La Cremaillere is consistently excellent week in and week out... contrary to some of the reviews on here that are clearly disingenuous and written by complete imbeciles who don't know a thing about fine dining and real food.

The French food was delicious and the service was impeccable!!! White glove and silver dome platters. Ambiance was old world, traditional that brings you back in time.

We have been here a few times but this was the first time after the pandemic. The food and menu are fantastic and the pace of service is exactly how it should be in a French restaurant at this level. They also serve a lot of classic French dishes (vol au vent and tournedos Rossini for example) that are hard to find. They have a nice wine and digestif list as well. Definitely worth it when you're looking for formal French dining.

We had a feeling the moment we walked in that we were not going to have the experience we wanted. We should have followed our guts. The service and food are just not at all up to par with what you'd expect of a high end French restaurant with these prices and in this space. I wish I'd tried it with the old owner and chef - I hear it was delightful. It's hard to describe the weirdness here. It's like the staff and ownership had read about French restaurants or seen them in movies, and were trying to mimic it, but were missing the heart of the whole thing. I hope they are able to improve, because it's nearby and the space is so charming.

I was so surprised, I went to La Cremaillere for dinner Saturday evening and it wasn't the way it used to be. I ordered the rack of lamb, it was so dry, it was almost in edible! They even had the nerve to put bones in the meat from somewhere else into the lamb--looked like a lollipop. The most delicious part of the rack of lamb are when the juices of fat and bone are combined with the flavors of meat, they meld together while the lamb cooks together!

And the restaurant is closed again on the week of Bastille! What a disaster of a business!

Been closed for 2 years but opened under new management with a wonderful chef who serves French food with a flair. Ambiance and decor is wonderful as is the food. Can't wait to go back.

This restaurant has changed a great deal from its previous incarnation, so don't expect things to be exactly the same. The staff: The staff is no longer French, but largely hispanic while the maitre d' is American. This means that the service is actually much quicker than it used to be, but sometimes the waitstaff is not sure what is what on the menu. In the old days you could wait 15-20 minutes just to get a menu, but that's no longer the case. The staff is very polite, friendly, and attentive. The menu: At the moment, the menu is prix fixe, which is not my favorite style. You can order 2 courses (one app, one entree) for $75, three courses (2 apps, one entree) for $85, or four courses (three apps, one entree) for $125. Their specials are at additional cost. Also, if there's a brandy or the like that you want after dinner but don't see it on the menu, be sure to ask. My husband loves Calvados, but didn't see it on the menu, so he asked and they did have it. The food: Excellent. Still traditional French. I had a salad and then duck. My husband had a different salad and then scallops. The "flourless chocolate cake" is pretty much just the largest truffle you have ever seen, so if you don't want something that heavy go for the mousse or one of the soufflés. The price: This is an expensive restaurant. Especially given the limited menu. Wow what an amazing and memorable dinner! The service, food ambiance was all top notch. Glad we stumbled upon this place for our anniversary dinner!

Our friends were excited to invite me and my wife for a special birthday dinner at La Crémaillère. They fondly remember the restaurant from its previous incarnation and were enticed by the tasting menu advertised on the restaurants website. Unfortunately this dining option was not available on the day of your visit. We picked steak tartare, foie gras and bay scallops as our appetizers; all good and tasty choices but the bread offered before the meal was reminiscent of microwave heated supermarket rolls. We all selected the special off the day veal steak on the bone for our main course. The veal steak turned out to be a mini tomahawk steak of baby beef from an animal that was long weaned from its mother. The sides of potatoes and chanterelle mushrooms must have been forgotten in the pan and were charred beyond recognition. The big surprise came with the bill as this dish carried an unannounced surcharge of $ 35.00 per plate. The great FX Pichler wine from the Austrian Wachovia Valley was served in Rhine wine glasses. The service was attentive without being obstrusive. We elected not to try desert.

Back after having been closed for a couple of years. Thankfully the new owners did not change the decor and the food is as good as ever. Jackets for the men are no longer required though most were wearing one. The big change was switching to a fixed price menu. Three different prices depending on whether you order 2,3, or 4 courses. Unfortunately the menu is very limited, perhaps because it just reopened, and some entrees had a $20 supplement. Our server said they plan to expand the menu. Hopefully that will be soon.
