"There’s usually a line at El Lechoncito de Oro, a street vendor renowned for mastering the art of slow-cooked suckling pig. This tender, fatty meat is chopped and served in taco, tostada, or torta form. Always go torta since the bread absorbs part of the fat of the meat, and you can (and should) ask for it with crunchy bites of chicharrón. Whatever you choose, make sure to add a spoonful of green salsa to take your palate for a ride. It’s made with avocado and has just the right level of spice to straighten your bar-hopping night downtown without being overwhelmingly hot (if you have a low tolerance for spiciness, better to sit this one out). They have a few plastic benches for sitting, but everyone eats standing. This spot opens at 8pm and closes 4-5am, making it a perfect stop after mezcal tasting. photo credit: Carlos Elizondo photo credit: Carlos Elizondo photo credit: Carlos Elizondo" - Mariana Camacho

"There comes a time during any good night in Oaxaca when the mezcal catches up with you. It is exactly this time that you should wander over to the corner of Libres and Murguia and seek out the small cart known as El Lechoncito de Oro. The specialty here is lechon, or roasted suckling pig, and there are just three menu options, which is plenty: tortas, tostadas, and tacos. Pick any one, and choose from toppings or fillings like lechon with chicharrón (crispy fried pork belly) or lechon with pierna (tender pork leg). If you dare, ask for the salsa especial — nobody knows the secret recipe, but one ingredient is definitely fire. [$]" - Omar Alonso

"At 2:00 a.m. in Oaxaca it has to be Lechoncito de Oro. I get tacos with a mix of meat and extra chicharrón." - Marisel Salazar

*AMAZEBALLS* Seriously, this is one of those "YOU HAVE TO TRY IT" kinda places. Cash only, and just two options, but boy howdy, are those options *excellent*!. The chicharron, in particular, is mind-blowingly awesome, and will, literally, make you want to come back repeatedly. Whilst we were here, we saw quite a few folks finish their tacos and obediently queue up for seconds and thirds 😜 So yeah, don't miss this! (and, fwiw, they're open *late* for the post-drink tacos that one desperately needs...)

Really tasty lechón tacos if you are willing to wait. The day I went the line was quite a bit but it was well worth it. Had a torta and 2 tacos. Fel in love with the torta 🤤

SerpAPI
Delicious pork tacos and tortas for a fantastic price! Can highly recommend if you are in the mood for street food

Fantastic tacos, incredible value. There was a short line at 8.15pm, but moved really quickly. Highly recommend.

I swing by this place at some point after midnight. They only served two types of tacos. Tried them both. Complete awesomeness!

Delicious! We got two tacos and a tostada per person, it was almost enough. Maybe throw in one more taco. As for the meat I loved lechoncito and my bf voted for chicharrón, so definitely try both. We came exactly at 8 and they were not open yet, but the line started to form pretty quickly

This is the spot for late night tacos in Oaxaca. If you can get around eating a "baby pig" you won't regret it. These are tender and insanely delicious. I only had one bite due to the baby pig factor but my husband and I both agreed these are some of the better street tacos we have found anywhere in Mexico. There salsa is fire in a good way. Also, the chicharron is the way to go!

Its famous so you can expect a queue before they start at 8pm, but that's fine 'cause most people are nice. The tacos ($17) aren't more than average (however the chicharrón crumble is really good) but they come without salsa, for that little piece of obvious service you have to dig up an additional $40! I adore Mexican streetfood but this is just an overrated one.

Yelp
The best tacos we had in Oaxaca. We arrived a little before opening at 8 pm and waited under 10 minutes to order and get our tacos. Tried both the Pierre and chicharron but just like everyone else said, the chicharron was our favorite. A little crunch and moist meat all together. The taco stand is differentiated by a pink neon lit pig sign and is easy to find by google maps. 17 pesos for ONE taco (not 8 as someone told us in line lol). Yummy! CASH only

Yelp
Great late night street taco spot. It's towards the edge of the Centro. The tacos are purely pork. I really enjoyed the chicharron because of the crunch. The sauce is a bit on the spicy side, but it's very nice, esp with the lime. There will be a line, but it goes really quicky. They will ask you what you want, whether you want sauce on the tacos, and then they'll tell you the amount to pay. After paying (cash only), they'll give you a number. Soon, you'll get those delicious tacos!! As typical of street tacos, you will be eating them while standing. Fortunately for you, there is a small ledge on the taco cart to put your plate on if you need to. There is also a sink with soap if you need to wash your hands.

Yelp
This place was super high on my list of street food to try when I was in Oaxaca as I had heard nothing but positive things about it from all of the sources I reviewed before my trip. I must be the only person on earth who doesn't like it at all, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I just absolutely hated the food I got. I ordered two tacos, one with pierna and one with chicharrones, and a tostada with pierna. The food was ready relatively quickly despite a line, and to its credit it is extremely inexpensive (tacos are $17 pesos each and I believe the tostada was $40). Also, the guacamole salsa it came with was INCREDIBLE. It was a little spicy but not overwhelmingly so. I would put it on absolutely everything if I could. The meat in the tacos was so so bad. It was soooo fatty and there were little pieces of skin that had an awful texture and were extremely unpleasant to bite into. I would say that at least half of the meat was inedible. I ended up throwing away the tostada after eating the tacos because I just couldn't bear picking through the meat. Overall I was so disappointed with this place. Not sure what I'm missing tbh but I just didn't like it at all.

Yelp
I came by here one night because I had been told that the food here is really good. They have a very limited menu and the only meat option is pork. I basically tried one of everything. Two tosatadas, two tacos and one torta. I will say they were all very good but the one thing that stood out to me was the tostadas. Those were the best to me. I liked the tacos and the torta but they did feel a little dry, especially the torta, even though it had sauce inside. Also, there is a rather long line that forms but it moves by real quick. I was surprised! People order fast and they don't order much either. You can take it to go or eat it there. They have a section behind the food truck where you can put your food down and eat it standing. It's very convenient. The workers are also really nice and efficient at what they do. They have some music playing while you're eating and it isn't too loud which I also enjoyed.

Yelp
This is a nighttime-only spot (they open at about 8), so we made it part of a little evening food stall crawl. Simple menu, focusing on the pig of course! Tacos have moist pork inside; make sure to get some of that green salsa! About 20p/each.

Jim G.

Yelp
They don't open until sundown. Good tacos, tender pork, and spicy green sauce to add. About 20 pesos each.

Farshad M.

Yelp
Glad I read about this place and found it on my last night in town. Probably the best street taco I've had in Oaxaca! For a city with not a lot of option other than greasy hamburgers at night these tacos will for sure hit the spot.

Yelp
Simply some of the best tacos I've ever had. I would actually go back to Oaxaca for these tacos alone. Anyone coming to the city you MUST go here.

Yelp
After a full day of eating and walking, still really wanted to check this place out. And very glad we did! Nice simple menu. I was already full but still got back in line multiple times to order more the tacos with chicharrones. Open late when you get hungry after a long day. Very nice people and fantastic food!

Yelp
Delicious pork tacos from a food truck. It's on all the tourist blogs so there was a mix of locals and people like me in line. I hope the prices can stay the same even with the popularity. I stayed around the block and went here twice!

Gabriella A.

Yelp
Truly amazing tacos. They have two choices of pierna (leg meat) or chicarron. I had both of these as tacos and tortas, and they were unbelievable. Personally, I loved the crunch of the chicarron, but you really can't go wrong!

Yelp
There's no argument that Lechoncito de Oro is one of the best kept secrets of the local street food scene. We liked it so much that we came here both nights while we were in Oaxaca. During both late-night visits, we barely spotted any non-locals. The tostada with chicharrón is the thing to try here: the succulent pork combined with bits of crispy chicharrón underneath a generous layer of salsa verde is out of this world. I couldn't help but ask for more picante chili sauce for an even more spicy kick. The crunchy tostada served a perfect contrast to the toppings. Hence, I slightly prefers it over the tacos. The crew loves seeing new faces and we really enjoyed interacting with them throughout the night. P. S. The hours they posted is usually accurate, except one night they opened at midnight instead of 8pm.

Yelp
This place is pretty good. They only serve one meat and they do it really well. Ultra cheap.

Yelp
Good food, very simple tacos. I'm from Tijuana area, so I'm used to really good tacos. These are flavorful but they lack all the condiments of your Bordentown taquerias. It's a reasonable place to grab some tacos, some late night eats. I was pleased.

Ben D.

Yelp
Very good quality street food specializing on suckling pig with pierna or chicharon served as tacos, tostadas or tortas.

Max G.

Yelp
Wow! What an experience. Completely off the radar but this street food cart is a must. Have never had better tasting lechón tacos than these. Ask for the habanero sauce for a special kick. But seriously, do yourself a favor a visit this place. The order comes with 5 tacos or you can get the protein on a tostada or torta. I had them all. Won't disappoint.

Catina M.

Yelp
This taco truck doesn't appear until 8pm in the evening. I've had tacos all over Mexico, as well as the US, and I can definitely say that El Lechoncito has THE most delicious tacos in the world. Their chicharron tacos will have you watching the clock obsessively, waiting for the truck to set up and start selling the deliciousness they call tacos. If you like heat, ask for the salsa especial - it packs the flavor with a fantastic burn. The staff is also incredible. They are fast, friendly - and have their queue down to a science. We ate here almost every night. I dream of going back to Oaxaca just to have another suckling pig taco.

Yelp
Took a trip to Oaxaca and hands down the best street tacos I've ever had. I got the lechoncito chicharron tacos and DAYUM it was BWOMB. fire. call the fire dept! I advise eating it with beer and lime (have to bring your own beer but not sure if its legal to drink it outdoors buut...)
