Bangkok shophouse vibes, crab durian curry, & creative Thai cocktails

"I experienced LenLen as more bar than restaurant—enter past a curtain to a long inviting bar before the dim dining room—and the beverage program is a highlight (try the Tomato Som Tum cocktail with tequila, Thai basil, palm sugar, peanuts and fish sauce). In the dining room, the crab durian curry atop spaghetti squash transformed the squash into a scoopable, saucy delight, and other shareable plates like roasted chili eggplant dip with cabbage leaves and chili‑jam clams make this a spot best enjoyed with a party of four or more." - Charlie Hobbs
"A vibey new bar and restaurant inspired by 1970s Bangkok, this spot won me over with the crab and durian curry, the undisputed champion of our table. The velvety orange sauce tames the sometimes divisive durian, whose almost-floral sweetness feels like a natural fit with the curry’s aromatics, and the textures sing: juicy shreds of crab juxtaposed with shreddy strands of spaghetti squash." - Nadia Chaudhury
"In Flatiron, this new bar explores Thai flavors through modern cocktails." - Mahira Rivers
"Opening as a Thai bar and restaurant, the space and menu spring from Bangkok shophouses and farmers markets of the 1970s, with dishes and cocktails like crab durian curry and the Tomato Som Tum cocktail. Co-owners Wanisa Torboonsitikorn and chef Peter Ki Suk Tondreau also run a bunch of Chelsea Market stands." - Nadia Chaudhury
"This Thai restaurant in Flatiron is said to be inspired by the shophouses of Bangkok, though we can’t confirm if the owners live above the restaurant at this time. Though probably not, given that the chef did a stint at Spago in LA, and the bartender comes from Maison Premiere. You’ll be able to pick up ramen noodles and other small groceries in the front, before shuffling on to the back of the restaurant, where psychedelic Thai music plays, and dishes like a strawberry and papaya salad, eggplant and tofu krapow, and crab-durian curry make extensive use of the produce at the Union Square Greenmarket. The chef is is also involved with a several spots in Chelsea Market, including Very Fresh Noodles, Bar Suzette, and hidden bar N’Between. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists. RESERVE A TABLE" - Will Hartman
