Japanese Peruvian fusion with sushi, ceviches, and udon

"Some places have great ambience. Others have terrific food. Think you can't find both in the same spot? Think again, then head to Leona's Sushi House. This hip spot has a variety of distinctive spaces that lure creative types and beautiful people. This Japanese fusion menu never misses a beat. Dishes are often irreverent, as in rich and savory udon carbonara with paper thin smoked pork belly, creamy egg and parmigiano; and the sticky-sweet oxtail-stuffed bao is craveworthy. Seafood is impressive, whether it's ceviche or sashimi-quality halibut bathed in a ponzu sauce vinaigrette. Chef's specials include shimeji risotto or whole baked branzino with sake." - Michelin Inspector
"This vibey sushi den in Studio City has multiple dining rooms, including a covered green-house-like patio, that make it prime for a wedding party rental. Green plants drip from the ceiling and walls and each dining room has its own personal feel that can make migrating from room to room an adventure. On the menu, find crowd-pleasing dishes like blue crab croquettes, vegetable and shrimp tempura, oysters, mini “Japanese tacos” on jicama tortillas, as well as sushi, sashimi, and robata with choices like yellowtail collar and Chilean sea bass." - Nicole Adlman

"Leona's Sushi House is a Peruvian-Japanese restaurant in Studio City backed by Evan Ross that feels like multiple restaurants crammed into one. There are three distinct dining areas inside–a chic, white-marbled indoor-outdoor space that feels like a bar, a barebones sushi counter, and a dark dining room with gaudy bird nest-shaped chandeliers that belong in a Vegas casino—that make choosing where to sit confusing, and things don't get easier once you open the menu. With sushi and small plates and robata skewers and lukewarm Peruvian entrees that come out way too fast from the kitchen, Leona falls victim to trying to do too much. The decent sushi rolls and sashimi were the only things that managed to grab our attention at this pricey restaurant." - sylvio martins, brant cox, garrett snyder
"Longtime sushi chef Shigenori Fujimoto found an immediate stream of regulars who favor his Japanese Peruvian fare with classic sushi and sashimi, ceviches, and a tiradito de tai with Japanese sea bream, rocoto chile, yuzu, and sea salt. Right in the center of the restaurant lounge is a fireplace for after-dinner drinks, bites, or cocktailing." - Eater Staff

"Proprietor Frank Leon and sushi pro Shigenori Fujimoto (previously of Asanebo and Shiki) are behind Leona’s Sushi House in Sherman Oaks. The restaurant’s multi-faceted space includes indoor and outdoor dining rooms, plus a tucked-away counter where patrons can get an omakase that includes Peruvian flavors but hews closely to tradition." - Matthew Kang
