Lilli By Akira Back - Review - Mayfair - London - The Infatuation

"We had some thoughts on “the very shiny, very expensive” Akira Back. And now there’s another Akira Back hotel restaurant, this time inside Montcalm Mayfair. Lilli By Akira Back’s menu is a bit of a mystery. It’s open from breakfast when they’ll serve shakshuka and a full English, as well as a masala omelette and oatmeal. In the evening some of the Japanese influence is more evident with dishes like wagyu pizza, but there’s also spicy Calabrian rigatoni and a beef wellington. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Sinéad Cranna

Oh no! The food was so mediocre especially for the price! You expect so much more. The menu should be described better. The wagyu 'pizza' is raw slices of beef on a tortillan for example. Food was around 4 or 5/10 in general. Steak was pretty good and was the best thing.

Just had an amazing meal at Lilli. Only open for 1 month and chef Akira Back has an amazing menu. We had the fillet and rigatoni. The fillet was perfectly cooked, the pasta was al dente with A little heat from Calabrian chili. Tiger Shrimp dynamite to start was very flavorful. Service - top level. Highly recommend.

Food at Lilli was sublime, however the star of the evening was Omkar who provided us stupendous service for the evening. Hats off to him, will definitely be coming back for the rigatoni and tremendous service.

I have eaten in all chef Akira Back’s restaurant and virtually all Mayfair restaurants in general. As an avid foodie and guest in Michelin star restaurants, I can categorically say this is the most shocking experience I’ve had. 1- Firstly the hotel is not in Mayfair. It’s a boutique hotel in Marble Arch falsely advertised as Mayfair and 5 star. 2- On arrival at the restaurant, we found strangers in hoodies drinking alcohol indiscriminately and using laughing gas balloons right in front of the hotel which made us feel unsafe (these were not hotel or restaurant guest) 3- The menu online was different from the menu in the restaurant and pricing online vs pricing in restaurant was also different. While seated, the waiter offered us water and brought the menu which had very limited options. When we realised that the menu was different which meant the options we came for were no longer on the menu, we explained to the manager and he apologised for the mix up in menu change and price inconsistency. We then decided to go to a different restaurant but to my greatest surprise, the manager brought the bill for the water. That really shocked me as I have never seen a 5 star hotel or a Michelin star restaurant act that way, I suspect its lack of experience. A customer has had a bad experience and the next thing you do is to bill them for water. 4- The ambience was very dead and doesn’t give any sense of a 5 star hotel In summary, if you are looking for a 5 star hotel dinning experience with a Michelin star chef, this is not the restaurant for you. This is a 3-4 star hotel at best. I’ll recommend you go to Dosa, Akiraback in Mandarin Mayfair to taste the magic of chef Akiraback. I believe the chef will most likely close down this branch. It’s feels like a restaurant in a premier inn hotel. Don’t waste your time and money here.
