"Lima Taverna is all about Peruvian cuisine, as its name might imply. Three different ceviches are on offer, and they’re all equally great. The ceviche mixto (whitefish, shrimp, and calamari with traditional fixings) is a great option for starters, but the leche de tigre is really where it’s at. Freshly caught fish is marinated in leche de tigre (a mix of lime juice and chiles) and served with sweet potatoes, Peruvian-style corn, and shaved onions." - Amy McCarthy

I recently dined at Lima Taverna, a Peruvian restaurant and had a rather mixed experience. The dishes, though authentically spicy, were a bit too hot for my taste. The coffee, however, stood out with its unique flavors and impressive presentation. The tres leches dessert was quite delightful, as the sangria. Despite the steep prices, the warm and friendly service added a pleasant touch to the evening. Overall, I would rate my experience at 4 stars.

Google
Wonderful taste, beautiful atmosphere. The host was very helpful and genuinely excited about sharing his culture. The bone in the porkchop was amazing. I recommend the ceviche has the best flavor. Be sure and get a deserts they are worth the trip.

Google
A Hidden Gem! If I could give this restaurant more stars I would. The level of service, the speed, the attention to detail, the way the plates were presented outstanding. Congratulations. Delicious food and we got personally served by the owner who was kind enough to educate us on the history of every dish.

Google
Place is amazing! Great service, great food! Everything we ordered was epic. Live music was cool as well! I saw some people complaining about price, to them, you get what you paid for my boi. This place is worth the money!

Mamita

Google
Beautifully presented food. Very tasty I went with people from Peru and they said food tasted like in Peru Very nice decor, music, lights - Not an average restaurant, more of an upscale atmosphere. This was my 5th trip there Never disappoints.

Google
Good food and great service Plates were a bit smaller portions than expected Taste was good

Google
Love the hospitality, the owner took his time to have a conversation with us about the food, recommending and explaining the foods we had asked about. Love their Sour Pisco drink and Chicha Morada (non-alcoholic). The food is so delicious and meat is cooked just right. I will definitely recommend people to try this awesome Peruvian food; not only flavored but it cones with good presentation. I must say, it’s kind of expensive but the price is worth the food you get to taste.

Google
Such a beautiful place and with such amazing food and drinks! I definitely recommend the Lomo Saltado and the Passion Fruit Pisco cocktail! Try it out you won’t be disappointed!

Yelp
My partner and I went out for dinner with four friends, including a couple who just relocated from Lima, Peru. The restaurant was a bit hard to spot since it's tucked away at the back of the building, but once inside, it had a really inviting feel. The menu had a lot of options, and I was happy to see several gluten-free choices. We kicked things off with a carafe of chicha morada, which was super tasty. I went for the Jalea Limena, a fried seafood dish that included white fish, calamari, shrimp, scallops, and mussels. The portion was huge, so my friends helped me out because I really wanted to save room for the picarones. The seafood was delicious, with a light breading and a tasty tartar sauce. The white fish was definitely the highlight. I shared the picarones with my partner, and they were light and flavorful, made from sweet potato and squash. Served warm, they were a real treat. The service was quick and friendly, and the owner came by a few times to check on us and share some cool stories about the place. We had a great time and would come back when we're in the area.

Yelp
Really wanted to love this place... service was mediocre and there were only 6 total customers in the restaurant including us... food wasn't terrible but probably the worst Peruvian food I've ever had unfortunately. Ordered the lomo saltado... a lot more soy sauce than I'm used to... I requested for the beef to be medium rare but it was more like medium well... the meat was not chewy even though it was overcooked so that was a plus... water tasted a little funky too :( The decor is nice though. Cute little restaurant... I think the dishes are priced a bit on the high end as well.

Yelp
Amazing food, drinks and service. Aroz con pollo is my favorite. The pisco sour is delicious. The service is excellent. Can't wait to go back.

Mohsin S.

Yelp
This is a nice little Peruvian restaurant tucked away in the back of a strip. The menu had a good selection of dishes including ceviche, cuts of steak and seafood. The Lomo Saltado I ordered was good. Meat was tender. Cooked in an oriental style sauce almost like a kung pao. There was a sax player who started up midway through the meal and was very good. Service was ok.

Melissa S.

Yelp
I have never had Peruvian food before and we went with a family from Peru. They loved it. We loved it. The owner was gracious and showed EXCEPTIONAL hospitality to EVERY table. We had alittle bit of everything. 5 's

Jim P.

Yelp
The food was delicious! We got what's in the photo and the lomo saltado and seco de res. Taste was authentic and the service was excellent! Shout to Cesar

Clau D.

Yelp
My expectations were high after reading the reviews & the minute i walked in the restaurant looks and is clean, pleasant, the waitress was really friendly and approachable , service was really good. Now let's talk about the food. Ceviche mixto was good, calamari a little over cooked , and the fish was cut the wrong way so it was very tough, but the leche tigre was very tasty, good flavor. The pollo saltado was so salty that it was hard to eat and same the lomo saltado. Like i said service was extraordinary but food was not good and the price is pretty high!

Valerie V.

Yelp
The food was amazing! I came in for the lunch & it was completly quiet. This is definetly a date night spot. The ceviche was delicious & fresh.

Daniel Y.

Yelp
This was my first time eating Peruvian food. I went to the restaurant around 5:00pm. There were only four other persons in the restaurant when I arrived. I liked the vibe of the restaurant, which was clearly Latin. I was promptly sat at the table of my choice by the host. The waitress came to my table within a few minutes with a menu. I ordered the lomo saltado. The dish arrived within maybe ten minutes. It tasted very good! The meat was cooked to my requested temperature and the rice was great. What was also great about it is that it was well-portioned. You know how when you go to a TexMex restaurant and they give you a massive amount of food? This restaurant does NOT do that. It was a little pricy ($35 before tip). The dining experience was good. I enjoyed the food and the ambiance. I will return.

Yelp
I have been many times in this Peruvian restaurant, I try the chaufa with seafood and steak/meat. Actually in the menu is only chicken or seafood but I ask them to do it with steak and seafood, they charge me extra but is the best chaufa in Texas. The coffe is great the best coffee in the area .

Vinicio R.

Yelp
Best food ever in Plaino TX. The best empanadas, Ceviche, filet mignon. Really an amazing place to eat. Al. Love that place

Michael V.

Yelp
Unfortunately got bad service on Dec 31. It was not because they were busy only on table of 8 and they already had their food. I love this place but it is frequently service that brings disappointment. The drinks were excellent and so was the food. Unfortunately we ordered appetizers and never got them. The waiter unfortunately didn't even apologize and said we did not order even though he asked clarify questions about our ceviche and number ordered. Can blame on language as we ordered in Spanish. I do recommend the food. Just know service can at times not be what you want as this was my experience the past 3 times.

Kevin L.

Yelp
Let me start by saying, I had no idea what to expect from a Peruvian restaurant, but from what I've read after my experience is that it has a heavy Chinese influence on the dishes. Let me start with service. The waitress was very nice and we put our order in pretty fast, but the food took wayyy too long to come out. Like almost 30 mins. I'd understand if it was a full house, but it was just us and maybe 3 other tables. Also, they had a live singer there and his voice was awesome, but it felt like I was sitting right in front of a concert speaker. Next the food: - Empanadas: These tasted pretty good and had good of amount of filling. The sauce was also really good and honestly the most enjoyable part of the dish, but $8 for 1 empanada is pretty ridiculously priced and it definitely was not worth the price. - Lomo Saltado: I don't have a whole lot to say about this one aside from the steak being really tender and they gave pretty big chunks. The sauce just taste like soy sauce and MSG and $32 is a really steep price to pay for something that I could probably get from a Chinese restaurant... - Tallarin Saltado: Same as above, but with noodles instead of rice. Basically just a $32 lo mein honestly. Overall, I'm sure there other dishes that aren't Asian inspired are probably good, but I honestly can't see myself coming back due to the ridiculously expensive prices.

Marco B.

Yelp
Food was ok but too expensive for what they served, service was better than the food, wont going back $23 for chicha and maracuya, cmon dude we all know you can make a lot of chicha for 5 bucks, ridiculous over charge, because you think is a gourmet's restaurant doesn't mean is a fancy restaurant, I guess that's why it was empty, but you have to pay the price to tried, if you from Peru you will be disappointed, hopefully I save you a bad experience.

Sabina C.

Yelp
Amazing as usual! Highly recommend. The lady who sings on the weekend is AMAZING! Does not miss and note, plays the Congo and flute, def a treat! Food is a treat and always consistent and I love their Pisco sour.

Bill K.

Yelp
We Dined here this evening with some friends. The Lomo Saltado was perfect. Ceviche was probably the best I've had in Dallas. The staff made us completely feel like family. Peruvian Coffee was strong with good flavor but not overwhelming. Desert was absolutely on point. Bathrooms and Dining area were also very clean. This is a true hidden gem in DFW.

Alyssa M.

Yelp
Lovely place, in an awkward location in the back area of a shopping plaza. We came here based on the stellar reviews. The food was great; we really liked the tender pieces of meat in our dishes. The sauces for the dishes and yucca fries were also delicious. Dishes are a tad bit overpriced, I felt like I was being upcharged by about $5-$7. There was live music the night we went, which was nice but also loud. Service was impeccable with multiple different wait staff checking up on us and refilling our waters. I would come back here if the pricing became a bit more reasonable or if they had deals.

Scott B.

Yelp
I am not setting foot in any so called Peruvian restaurant that doesn't serve chupe de camarón or suspiro limeño. Ya punto y se acabó

Samantha M.

Yelp
Service food and ambiance all great ! Enjoyed the traditional ceviche and chicken empanadas. Look forward to going back again.

Liani D.

Yelp
The ceviche was outstanding and the lomo saltado made with first quality filet mignon and super flavorful. Great service and loved the music. Will definitely be back.

VeeJay C.

Yelp
Don't remember all the things we had here, but I do remember mostly liking the ceviche above all else, which is super important for a Peruvian restaurant . Still not as good as the one I make at home or my father in law's...but it was definitely good and worth showing up for.

Hedras R.

Yelp
Great Peruvian ceviche! A bit expensive for the size of the portion, but definitely really good.

Kavin S.

Yelp
We enjoyed their pescado alo macho and their carapulcra. The food came with complimentary fresh bread and we ordered some crispy yuca fries as an appetizer. The pescado was flavorful with perfectly done salmon. The carapulcra had a rich and savory flavor perfect for the winter day when we ate there. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in peruvian food

Chris D.

Yelp
I have never had an issue with this place. the food is always top notch and the service is always amazing. the only times I've seen issues is with larger (20+) without giving the place a heads up to get more help for a group that size. lack of forethought and planning is not a Taverna issue, but that damn table of 20 or so who ordered confusingly to me and out of order all talking over one another. as an ex server, stop that silliness. the food and service, as an American who loves Peruvian food, I say go. live music at times in the weekend and wonderful Pisco Sours!

Izzat A.

Yelp
I do recommend this place very much! They do awesome Peruvian foods! Enjoy! The atmosphere is extremely friendly in there.

freddy t.

Yelp
You gotta try it. That's it. Second time here with the wife A place you can bring a date. She had the pics sour, good once you Get past the froth it's good.

Jackie R.

Yelp
This was a great experience in terms of food, service and experience. Truly a hidden gem. Can't wait to come back on the weekend when they have live music!

Ana A.

Yelp
I went on saturday for dinner We started with Ceviche Mixto, wow the best in DFW , We got Lomo Saltado OMG cube of file mignon cooked perfectly, potatoes was fresh cut not frozen, also got the Jalea seafood was cooked crispy and al dente. For the dessert Picarones and lucuma Flan both very delicious. We will be back soon for more!!! Service was good and the ambiance super great .... Live music.

Cat A.

Yelp
First time here and it will NOT be the last! Everything was wonderful. We tried chicha morada, parihuela, and arroz con pollo; I loved the juice and both dishes were amazing with so much flavor (and large portions!). The server James was the best, he was so friendly and patient, explaining the Peruvian flavors, culture, and ingredients to us, letting us practice our Spanish, and he even gave us a sample of a great bar drink. I cannot wait to come back here to try the tasty desserts I didnt have room for and for the live dancing on Saturday evenings!

John D.

Yelp
The number one rule of business is, "When someone tries to give you money, you take it." Obviously, Lima Taverna has never heard of this. I came in on 1/7/24 at 3:15 and sat there for 14 minutes before I just got up and left. No water, nothing. There were only 3 tables occupied. I went there intrigued that their ceviche mixto was $23. At that price, it must be good, right? And their lomo saltado is $33, which is about twice the price anywhere else. Must have gold flecks in it. But I will never find out.

Allen T.

Yelp
This place is very very good. I'm no expert on Peruvian cuisine but man everything we had was amazing. Their Ceviche Mixto is fresh in all the ingredients and my seafood dish was also delicious. Ask them for recommendations and you won't go wrong with it. We will be back.

Jeff L.

Yelp
Outstanding Peruvian Food, great atmosphere and friendly staff makes this our go to place for a night out with friends or a date night.

Chris C.

Yelp
First time eating Peruvian. Johnny and James were great and had excellent suggestions for first timers. The Ceviche Mixto and Empanadas were great starters. We had the ravioli, shredded chicken, and Asian fusion seafood. Everything was outstanding. If you are looking for great food and great people look no further. We highly recommend Lima Taverna!

Homaira B.

Yelp
Step into Peru - decor, food, and service - Lima Taverna takes you on a journey of flavors that will have you wanting to book a flight to Peru. As soon as you walk in, the lighting is soft, the decor is traditional, and remember to look up! Our appetizers - Leche de Tigre (ceviche) and Empanadas: flavor, flavor, flavor, fresh, fresh, fresh! You won't be disappointed. Our main dishes: Pescado a lo Macho- you love seafood? This is served with a Peruvian seafood tomato sauce, your go-to bowl of seafood. Jalea Limena- fried seafood platter, will make you feel like the ocean is in front of you. Arroz con Pollo- chicken freshly cooked Peruvian style and the rice flavoring was phenomenal. We also ordered an item from Chef's Special Menu- octopus; uniquely plated with plantains. Our dessert- Picarones (Just do it! You can do jumping jacks and run in place when you get home) and Tres Leches (moist, soft, and not packed with sugar). The coffee...the coffee... I don't drink black coffee, but drink their coffee black. The smell will melt the coffee snob inside and the flavor will have you floating with glee. Not only is the food phenomenal, but the service is exceptional. The chef came out to greet us and asked how we enjoyed the food. He visited each table of guests. Great group of people taking great care of guests with Peruvian food!

Melissa N.

Yelp
Everything was delicious Walked into live singer with a great voice The music happy and happy Had the mussels which was amazing. Spicy, savory and lovely presentation Octopus was flavorful The chicharrones was delicious and the sauce yes, yes, yes

John F.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, excellent food, attentive service and nice people. I had the ceviche and it was so good!

Raquel C.

Yelp
This place is hands down the best Peruvian food in the DFW metroplex! Food came out hot and delicious. It wasn't too fast but wasn't too long. Owner is very generous and kind as he comes out to meet and greet the customers and explains dishes very thoroughly. Only thing I disliked is that this restaurant is at the back of the shopping center BECAUSE IT SHOULD BE SHOWCASED! Place is delicious! Will be coming back here again!

Mike B.

Yelp
My wife and I were looking for something new to try for date night. We are so happy we found this hidden gem. The service was very attentive without being intrusive. We started with the empanada appetizers, my wife enjoyed the chicken while the beef was my favorite. My wife's main was a chicken dish and I had a seafood platter. She must have loved it, it was gone before I had a chance to steal a bite. The seafood was fresh and perfectly cooked. We spoke with the manager to let him know how much we enjoyed the service and food and that we plan on going back with a group of friends.

Jenny R.

Yelp
I must say that my friends and I were really excited to be visiting a Peruvian spot, but we were disappointed. Service was slow with very few customers and the energy was very low. After seating at our table, we asked about their special dishes for the day. The waitress pointed to the other side of the room at a small board and said "we can go look at it", after she realized that it was inappropriate then stated she would go check for us. It's never good when the waitress does not know what's on the menu. Additionally, the appeal was more upscale but the service was not up to part. We asked for sodas and was brought to us in a can. We had to request for glass cups to be brought to us. We stuck to only appetizers since the service was not great from the beginning. The presentation of the dishes were very nicely prepared. However, we were not impressed with the authenticity of the dishes. The "Causa" had an extreme amount of mayonnaise in the chicken and the potatoes were too moist. The ceviche was not so well on flavor, as the amount of lime overpowered all the other flavors including the salt. After a 45 minute drive to restaurant, I must say we were extremely disappointed and left hungry.

Rick Z.

Yelp
This restaurant has so much potential, but falls short on many fronts. The service is good and in this industry, that goes a long way. The food is authentic, however, you won't experience the best of what Peruvian cuisine has to offer. Recipes need some tweaking. Plating is corny, not creative or inspiring. The decor of the restaurant is borderline, tacky and in dire need of freshening up. It just seems like everything was thrown together, without any real thought or design going into it. This set the tone for the entire experience as you sit there, staring out the windows with a view to the construction going on directly in front of the restaurant. Just so much potential! ‍

Bill U.

Yelp
Stopped in for my daughters Spanish class Xmas party. She was to bring in beverages so we ordered INKA COLA, MARACUYA JUICE and CHICHA MORADA. After her trip to Peru last year she was happy they had her favorites on the menu. There were left overs so I was also able to sample them. Not my cup of tea but were a hit in the class. A bit on the pricey side for the juices but it was a one shot stop.

Ruben O.

Yelp
Let me start by saying the food was ok, the desserts weren't. The ceviche was very good. The service was just ok at best. The reason for the low rating is poor customer service. I was billed for plates I didn't order, told the waiter, he argued with me. I paid the bill, including the automatic 20% due to party size. I spoke with the owner to remedy, Eliseo, no resolution. Bottom line, I was over charged for just ok overpriced food made them aware (twice) and no equitable resolution reached. Will never go there again.

Susan P.

Yelp
I was on a business trip with my co-worker and I was wanting to try this place during my stay in TX. We ordered choritos a la chalaca, ceviche de mixto, lomo saltado, and an octopus dish (sorry I forgot the name). The food was so delicious and unforgettable. We really enjoyed the mussels appetizer as it had amazing flavor. The ceviche was refreshing and we could have ate all the appetizers but we had to save room for our main dishes. Lomo was amazing as always and their aji was delicious as well. My coworker enjoyed her octopus very much. We even had dessert which was a perfect way to top off our dinner. Eliseo served us and we enjoyed his company as well. Thank you Eliseo for the tasty dessert!

Vee Q.

Yelp
My husband and I came here to celebrate his birthday and it was one of the best dine in experiences in a very long time. First off, the manager was wonderful to talk to. The waiters and staff were very kind and attentive. The food was some of the best Peruvian food in the area (tasted just like authentic food you'd find in Peru). The chicken empanada, ceviche, chicha morada, and alfajores for desert were all a great choice. The staff went all out for my husbands birthday celebration and it was very much appreciated. Such a fun experience. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a good time with great food and amazing customer service!

Ben R.

Yelp
Came here off of a recommendation of a fren. This place was absolutely excellent and worth visiting despite the exterior appearance. Inside is a gourmet kitchen and excellent interior decorating. Great service and delicious food presented very well.

fernando a.

Yelp
My wife is Peruvian , I have been in Peru multiple times and this place won't disappoint you , the food is delicious . Service was very nice and friendly . Ambience it was Saturday night and they had live music ....of course for me being Latin I was in heaven . Can't wait to come back with my family

Matthew V.

Yelp
When words can not convey the true feeling of an experience, all you can do is tell someone they are missing out on life by not trying something. Lima Taverna is one of those experiences that fits this category; you are missing out on a beautiful experience if you don't visit. The ceviche is fantastic, the pisco sour is spot on, and their sangria is fresh and pure satisfaction. This is truly a dining experience that will bring you pure Peruvian flavors.

Betty L.

Yelp
Came in last Friday. It wasn't that busy around 7pm. Service was slow. The drinks were good. The ceviche was good but portion was small and price was $$$. I have been to other places and paid similar prices for bigger portions and tasted fabulous! The vibe is very chilled. We ordered other items and it was good but not for the price.
