On the Grid : Little Bao

"If Chinese food mated with an American diner Little Bao would be its offspring. And a very hip baby it is too, full of good vibes and friendly staff. The interior is like a diner and small so if you're not there early be prepared to be put on a waiting list but it's worth it. The food takes the Chinese bao or fluffy white bun and fills it with untraditional ingredients. I love the pork belly bao, so succulent and full of flavor. There are also beef, szechaun fried chicken, fish tempura and vegetarian baos. There are other dishes for sharing too like the divine short ribbed pan fried dumplings and smoked eggplant. When it opened Little Bao became an overnight sensation and deservedly so. To make sure you find it look for the cute neon baby face." - Angela Ho

"As the name suggests, the focus here is on baos, i.e., Vietnamese buns filled with pork and fish, though the sides are equally compelling: There are Brussels sprouts (topped with fish sauce and fried shallots) and sambal-inflected fries, along with slabs of green tea ice cream sandwiched between deep-fried buns."

30 Best Restaurants in Hong Kong

"Little Bao oozes cool both inside and out, but you’ll be surprised at the tiny space—just about 10 seats at the bar and another 10 off to the right. Designed by Hong Kong creative Sean Dix, the tiled floors, white-tiled walls, shiny stainless steel, bar stools and pictures of vintage Hong Kong mailboxes create a modern diner vibe. Chef May Chow puts as much thought into the food as she does the atmosphere, offering delicious, creative, and very popular baos and sharing dishes. But a word of warning: Don’t visit Little Bao if you’re on any kind of diet." - Kate Springer

Amazing little place with something just a little different. We opted for the lunch for two special and weren’t disappointed. The food was fresh, hot and tasty and there is a lot choice. Not a lot of seating compared to their other shop but immersive experience watching the cooks at work.

I visited Little Bao in Central, Hong Kong, and while the food was innovative and tasty, the overall experience was disappointing. I ordered the chicken bao, which was flavorful and well-prepared. However, the service left much to be desired. The servers were impatient and rude, constantly urging us to place our order quickly and later pushing us to settle the bill. Despite only spending 1 hour and 15 minutes at the restaurant, we felt rushed throughout the meal. It was clear they were more focused on turning tables due to the line outside than ensuring a pleasant dining experience for those inside. Unfortunately, the poor service overshadowed the quality of the food. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you’re okay with being rushed through your meal.

hip and casual place for nice fusion food. The bao bun is super fluffy. recommend the fries, pot stickers, fried chicken & pork belly baos. The cocktail is a tad bit too plain and weak

Decent food that plays on twists of local classic. Chilleat festival promotion at $600 for 2. Highlights include the salted fish Caesar salad and fried yellow chicken. Bao was good but not mind blowing. Overall the menu felt too heavy on friend items. Seats were cramped.

Food was great! From to sides to main dish to dessert! Good taste all around! Can only recommend it! Staff was also very friendly!

Overall the experience was good, the place was very clean and organized, but a bit small (maybe fit 15max). I like the open kitchen concept. Service was efficient and friendly. Food was good but I feel it can be seasoned better. Getting here from the MTR might be a challenge because of the uphill walk. I think the other branch may be more accessible. They are reasonable priced.

I like Pork Char Shiu Bao & Salted Ice Cream Bao. I went there without making a reservation, and it was almost full, but they prepared a seat for me. It's better to make a reservation before going.

Baos are incredibly delicious and soft. The restaurant offers two vegetarian bao options and several non-bao dishes. However, I highly recommend trying the bao, as it’s their specialty. The service is good, and the ambiance is casual, making it a suitable spot for a casual meal rather than a romantic dinner. They also offer alcohol drinks.
