Okay, so first let me say-I love to bake, and especially love cake. I will be the first to admit I have painfully high standards- for example, I made my own wedding cake because I couldn’t find one I liked from any bakeries 🫠 I’ve been wanting to make Brooklyn Blackout cake but had never had it myself and needed to sample before trying to bake one at home. After reading opinions on Reddit for the best Brooklyn Blackout Cake in the city, I decided to try little cupcake, and it did not disappoint!! The cake was rich but not overly sweet, had a nice crumb, and the icing was creamy without being too dense. The shop itself is really cute with neon signs and has a decent amount of space. I didn’t try anything else (this was for research after all 😉) but the other cakes and sweets looked just as good. Would recommend!!

Cute Little Cupcake Bakershop on Price street. It's so cute from the outside and even cuter inside. Plenty of options on just-the-right-size cupcakes offering. Friendly and attentive staff. There are comfortable sitting area especially by the large windows, perfect for people watching.

I recently visited Little Cupcake Bakeshop in Manhattan and picked up a pair of their gluten-free cupcakes, and wow—they were incredible! Each one looked picture-perfect, and the taste was even better. Moist, flavorful, and perfectly sweet, you’d never guess they were gluten-free. It’s hard to find gluten-free treats that don’t sacrifice on taste or texture, but this place nails it! If you’re in Manhattan and looking for delicious cupcakes, especially gluten-free options, this bakery is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

Yes I waited in line for cake and no I don't regret it. First visit and tried the hostess cake slice, pumpkin spice slice and a vegan oreo cookie cupcake. Honestly, only the pumpkin spice was truly amazing. Like making noises while eating it good. I had high hopes for the hostess slice, but it tasted like the plastic wrap version. I kinda wanted it to be much better. The chocolate icing was creamy and rich and vanilla goo in the middle was sweet enough, but it just left me underwhelmed. The vegan cupcake was a bit hard and dry. There are a number of other cake slices available that would bring me back, though.

Nice place to get a cupcake, cake, cookies with a coffee. I would say it’s a little bit overhyped compared to what it is but still worth it if you are around the area. The cupcake is $5 and the slice of cake is around $8. The service was great and pretty fast.

5 stars for 5 reasons 1. The Nutella cheesecake is great! Sweet, thick and a nice crunch to it. Red velvet cupcake ( vegan) was good surprisingly. The frosting is really good. 2. Various baked goods to choose from. 3. Price is very good considering it’s New York! 4. Workers were nice and provided good service 5. The decor is nice and a cute spot to enjoy your cupcakes and cakes! Limited seats

There’s a wide selection of cupcakes and cakes to choose from. My second time here and as usual the service was quick and efficient. I loved the consistency of the carrot cake as well as the other cakes I’ve tried. However, I think improvements can be made on making the frostings more appetizing and less sugar.

I was actually surprised at how good their Brooklyn Blackout cake was. Usually, even when highly rated, bakeries screw up cake and it is dry. Opposite here, it was amazing.

I love chocolate cake . Simple chocolate cake. Walked by little cupcake bake shop and I saw the sign . Voted best chocolate cake by food and wine . It definitely hit the spot . I can see why it won . So easy to eat . Not too sweet . So moist . This is the best I ever tasted . To me .perfect chocolate cake .

If you're a desperate tourist or a looking for a picture perfect sweet moment. But the price point and taste aren't worth it. There are plenty of other spots in the city.

Another viral bakery that just did not live up to the hype for me. I got the famed cookie dough cake. I was not impressed. The cake was quite dense. I suppose that is the intended texture as it is mimicking cookie dough, but it was pretty dry, not what I want in a cake. Also, I was struggling to pick up on the flavors of cookie dough. It just seemed like a thick yellow cake to me. I did enjoy the icy, it was fluffy and flavorful. Plus, it was topped with some great chocolate chips. The workers were great and the interior was nice. But, I did not eat my entire slice. I will say, they had some other items that looked superb. Maybe I should run back and try those. Once again, the cake obviously tasted pretty good. I mean it is sugar and fat. But, I just had much higher expectations for it. Maybe I got the wrong thing but I saw people raving about this so I gave it a go. Lots of other options to choose from as well, and I bet some are absolute bangers.

My friend got her boyfriend the coconut cloud cake from Little cupcake bake shop recently. I had heard great things about this cake, and he is a huge lover of coconut. The cake was topped with a marshmallow meringue frosting, coconut, angel food-like cake, and coconut custard layered between. The cake was good, but I wouldn't call it great. The coconut custard in between was very minimal, almost as though it wasn't there. The cake itself was really nice and light, not dry, but definitely not moist. The frosting was a nice touch, I love meringue on cakes . If you like coconut cake, this would be a good place to start. But it leaves me curious about other coconut cakes around the city.

Came in for 'your home made ice cream, made with organic milk, cream, sugar & eggs,' and left disappointed, shocked and turned off from ever coming back. The ice cream was $9 cash, and it wasn't even worth the $1 change I received. The ice cream was bland as can be, freezer burned and served in a small plastic cup - the size of a medical urination collection cup, truly unacceptable. Advice to management, scrap 'your' egregiously over priced, high gross margin, BS 'home made (freezer burned) ice cream' because it will turn off customers from ever coming back. Good luck.

The Little Cupcake Bakeshop is very cute and larger than most bakeries! They have a large menu and assortment of treats to pick from. I like that there is seating and we got a slice of cake to share. There was no line on a weekday evening, we ordered at the counter, and got our cake quickly. We got the Brooklyn Blackout slice and it was large enough for 3 people to share. The cake was very chocolately, the frosting was airy, but on the sweeter side, and the bottom layer of the cake was a bit dry.

We stumbled across this place on our walk home and all of the cakes and cupcakes looked delicious! I tried the strawberry shortcake cupcake which was yummy. Overall, I can only base my review off of the one cupcake flavor I tried, but it definitely wasn't mind blowing cupcake experience but I would go back to try another flavor

I came to Little Cupcake Bakeshop for their famous Brooklyn Blackout cake. Since this cake was deemed the best chocolate cake, I needed to give it a shot. Brooklyn Blackout - First off, this piece of cake was $10 and I wouldn't say it was anything special. It was moist, super sweet, and pretty chocolatey. However, there wasn't anything special that distinguished it from other chocolate cakes I've had. Overall, it was a mediocre experience coming to Little Cupcake Bakeshop.

A little bakery in a busy neighborhood with old-school diner vibes. We went on a Sunday morning and it was pretty empty. Just us and 6 staff behind the counter. They had a huge selection of cupcakes, cakes, etc. So it made it slightly difficult to pick. But I ended up picking a slice of their famous Blackout Brooklyn cake. According to food and wine, it's the best chocolate cake in the US. best chocolate cake? I wouldn't call it that. But it's alright. Maybe a notch better than the cakes you get a grocery stores. The frosting is overly sweet and a lot for the amount of cake you get. This helped mask the fact that the cake itself was a tad dry around the edges. But for $11, this cake should have been better. On a positive note, the cake had a good dark chocolate flavor. The seating area is fairly large and can accommodate smaller groups comfortably. But would I come back? Probably not. There are a ton of bakeries and restaurant in the neighborhood that are so much better.

My husband and I were in NYC on his birthday this year, and I wanted to surprise him with a cake. His favorite is chocolate with chocolate frosting, so I extensively researched where to find the best one in NYC. I kept landing on Little Cupcake Bakeshop, who are famous for their Brooklyn Blackout Cake. I called one week in advance to place the order, and was warmly assisted. I do not remember the exact price, but it was about $50 total for a customized cake that could serve 12 people. On the pickup day, the cake was already packed with care when I arrived, and they even provided candles. The Brooklyn Blackout Cake exceeded our (already high) expectations. It was moist, with a delicate crumb, and a rich, fudgey icing. My husband said it was one of the best chocolate cakes he has ever had. Little Cupcake does not use shortening or preservatives; only high quality, mostly local ingredients, and it shows. This LES location is adorable, with charming decor and colorful neon signs. All of the cakes in the case looked incredible! I will definitely be back.

Stumbled in after eating at Prince St Pizza one night and it was the best decision I ever made. I want one of everything! I'm obsessed with the cookies & cream mini cheesecake!

Cute little bakery we stopped in while shopping in the area. They have a ton of options, so if you have a sweet tooth like myself, you'll definitely find something to your liking. My friend and I each got a cupcake, and we also split one. I got the cookie dough, which was delicious! She got some kind of triple chocolate cupcake, which she also really enjoyed. We split the carrot cake cupcake, but neither of us really liked it. The cake itself tasted a bit too dry. I would come back though to try some of the other bakery items.

Amazing cupcakes. Good service. Ambiance is great for a place that serves cupcake all day and most of the night. I only wish there was one closer to me!

I got a red velvet cupcake from here. The cake was dry and a little crumbly. The frosting didn't have a rich cream cheese taste. I also got the apple crumble. I was worried it would be very sweet, but it was actually pleasantly tart. I would've preferred a butterier crust.

Brooklyn Blackout slice ($10) - the slice is big, so it's definitely enough to share between 2-3 people. Honestly, it tasted normal - nothing special. The cake itself wasn't that sweet but the icing was too sweet. A little on the drier side.

Randomly passed by here and what a great discovery. Not so much for my diet. They say best chocolate cake out there. Got the cupcake and it didn't disappoint. Look forward to coming back for more one day. It was a Friday afternoon so not busy at all.

We stopped by here on a whim, because I always have to look at cupcake shops, and boy am I glad I did. Tried a Brooklyn Blackout cupcake, and it was absolutely heavenly. Really moist and dark chocolatey, with killer frosting (and plenty of it). Wife got a mocha, which was excellent as well. The shop is really cute, and it was very pleasant to hang around while enjoying our treats, but they do ask kindly that people not linger for an excessive amount of time -- so don't think about camping out at a table and spending a whole afternoon doing work. Service was warm and friendly. Great place to go if you want to indulge yourself in something sweet!

I didn't even seek this place out. I stumbled upon it looking for the subway. So when I saw the sign "Best chocolate cake in America," I had to check it out. Super cute place with vibes of it truly being a neighborhood hangout. Nothing but cakes in the display counters, including cupcakes, but I came in to try their pièce de résistance, the Brooklyn Blackout Cake. Service person pointed out the cake to me, and it was the last piece of the day and in a cake stand on top of the display. She asked if I wanted it to-go since there wasn't one seat available inside. I said I would eat it there even if I had to stand up. I got a shot of espresso, too. The cake looked so delicious and I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into it. One bite in and I loved the frosting mix of dark chocolate and a mousse filling. The cake was really good, but not as moist as I would have expected considering it is dubbed best in America. It's not like I didn't finish it because of that, but I was expecting it to meet the hype. I'm sure getting the last piece at the end of the day sitting in a cake stand may have contributed to it not being as moist. Regardless, all of their cakes in cake stands on display were mostly gone and came in a variety of flavors. If I lived in NYC, I would be back but order the entire cake instead of one piece, and give the other flavors a try.

Cute little bakery! There's not much seating so you really have to get lucky to find a small table and a few chairs. The bakery is relatively busy with one or two staff taking orders behind the counter and then helping you check out. My favourites are the cheesecakes! All of them that I've tried are delicious. Honestly some of them remind me of Whole Foods mini cheesecakes, but there's more variety and probably more fresh. The interior is super cute and decorated! Saw that this bakery was in a tv show, so came to see it myself. :)

The dessert here are delicious and sweet. I will taste more. I love the hot apple cider before I had yelp so I need to drink it again to provide photo here. The owner is always nice and respectful to the customers if he is in the store.

Came here because they had a sign that said they had the best chocolate cake in the country. Cake was dry, crumbly, and generally disappointing. $5 a cupcake is also really pricey and not worth it. Lots of seating which was nice. Save your money and visit a different cupcake shop in New York!

Cute bake shop. It was decorated for Valentines and there were several small tables to sit at. We tried the Carrot Cake slice which was huge and very sweet ( slightly too sweet for our taste, but nicely filled with walnuts ). There were many cakes and cupcakes to choose from. Staff was friendly. This is not our favorite bake shop in the city, but still cute to visit.

My favorite cupcakes in the city. This shop is sooooo cute and has so many different flavored cupcakes. You can't go wrong with any. My favorite is the Brooklyn black out. They are a little pricy though at $4.75-$5.50 a cupcake, so they are definitely a treat.

We got a slice of their famous chocolate cake and it was delicious. Surprisingly not AS sweet as I expected, and the dark chocolate inside was unexpected. It made a huge difference and was definitely the best part.

Light and fluffy cupcakes. The perfect post dinner " something sweet." I do wish there were more seating as it was like was like an intense game of musical chairs; watching for people to get up. Plan to take your goods to go unless you're into that kind of drama. 4 stars because the frosting on the cupcakes were definitely too sweet and the s'mores bar was a complete miss. It was dry and chunky. Like eating stale cereal.

The strawberry shortcake cupcake is all you need to know about this place. Just. Wowwwww. My husband and I talk about this cupcake daily because it was SO good. Would be lying if I said I didn't put this place in my gps to see how long it would take me to get there. It is amazing and can't wait to try other flavors!

This spot still hits. It's been some time since the last time I made a visit. Their cupcakes are the perfect combination of fluffy with a bite and they are your classic American cake. They'll certainly give you a sugar rush, but don't taste too sweet.

Famous blackout cake rated "best chocolate cake in the U.S." by Food and Wine. Nope. Tried it a second trip and it's still dry and frosty is still anemic. Nice staff. Cute place.

We were looking for a parking spot so we could donate some socks, gloves and hats to the Bowery mission when we spotted this shop. We did our gift stop and then I hopped in for a treat... after all, it is Christmas. I sake what the most popular cupcake was. The barely audible response was, Brooklyn Blackout ... a double chocolate extravagance. I also grabbed a family favorite ... almond croissant. Well, the almond croissant ranked as a top 5 bakery treat, maybe top 3. We tasted it in the car home and we wolfed it down before we hit the Holland Tunnel! Wow! The cupcakes were exactly as described ... double chocolate. The fact that the cake part was fresh made it for us. Most cupcakes lavish a gooey topping on a semi stale cake. No so with this one. Overall, a place we'll return to for more yummy treats. 4 stars because of the limited number of treats sampled but could easily top out at 5 stars on our return. Recommended.

Strawberry cupcakes/ cake is hands down my favorite thing here. The cookie dough is also good . Wouldn't come here for anything but the cake slices though

All three were absolutely delicious! The vanilla was my favorite. Their lattes are good as well :-) Such a cute spot and a good amount of seating! Kind service.

3.5/5 stars I got the cookie dough cake after seeing a video on instagram. The cake slice was very thick and heavy. They are definitely large and fulfilling but one slice could be shared between at least 3 people. The taste was good but definitely on the sweeter side and frosting tasted more artificial. Normally you'd expect a cake to be more airy and moist. I felt that the cake was dense. There's definitely better cake shops out there but since I was in the area I wanted to check it out. The shop itself is very cute and a great place for a date or to work during the day. The service was slow and the servers were disorganized despite it not being busy at all. It also seemed like they were struggling to size and give appropriate portions (maybe inexperienced?). Overall I think it's an okay shop that's a bit pricey but not worth the hype. If you're in the area and want dessert, there are other shops around.

Sweet tooth anyone?! So i admit i went to this bakery because i saw some hype on social media. Upon checking out the bakery's Instagram page. I found that they serve some of the "best" desserts and more! Eat: Strawberry Shortcake slice cake. ( very sweet) 7/10 $$ The staff are friendly but it's a very busy popular bakery so depending on the time you enter, possibly may be a quick moving line. The inside is small but there's limited seating available. There's definitely a 70s theme candy shop vibe inside with all of the classics from strawberry shortcake, cupcakes and chocolate chip cookies. All made fresh daily. Definitely caters to all ages and tastebuds! Enjoy! :)

3.7/5 Inside, the place was really cute and had a great vibe. However, the customer service wasn't too great. I got the strawberry shortcake and cookie dough slice. I LOVED the strawberry slice, but I didn't think the cookie dough flavor was anything special. If you like chocolate chip cookies or the vanilla chocolate chip combo, you will definitely like the cookie dough cake. Both slices were a good portion size, which is becoming harder to find in the city, but they were a bit on the pricey side. Overall, I would recommend you try this place at least once. Will be back to try their other cake flavors and desserts.

I've been here before and got desserts and they were great. I decided to order my friends birthday cake from here. Tad on the pricey side but totally worth it. Ordered on the phone a day prior and the staff were helpful and polite. Got the strawberry shortcake and it came out beautiful. 10/10 experience would def order from here again. Not to mention the cake was so soft and flavorful and a hit at the party!

IMO, you can skip the chocolate cake. It claims to be the best, but I don't agree. HOWEVER, The Good Humour Strawberry Shortcake Cake is unmatched. It's truly unique and absolutely phenomenal. I've been to Little Cupcake many times (honestly, no idea why I've never left a raving review, it's been long deserved) and as much as I want to give another slice a try, I always succumb to the beauty and allure of this cake. Maybe I'll spoil myself and get two slices next time because there's no way in hell I'm walking out without this one. Am I exaggerating? Nope. A little too much for a piece of cake? Go ahead, take a bite and you'll see what I'm talkin' about.

Cute ambience and bake shop in soho Unfortunately, the cake was too dry and for being famous, I was expecting more. The cake was not moist and the icing was pretty sweet. I've had moister cakes in the city at Billy's / Molly's so I was disappointed! Hope if I come back it'll be better

Stopped in for a few treats on a weekday evening and while everything looked delectable, I would rate what I tried as on the good side of average - especially with all of the dessert competition in this town as of 2023. The Brooklyn blackout cake was solid but definitely too sweet, and the sugar cookie was simply fine. They're definitely coasting by on their established name. 3.5 stars.

I love a good funfetti cake and little cupcake bakeshop does a good version. Also got a a slice of their carrot cake, which was alright. I really wish there was more seating! It was busy and people were sitting with empty plates and cups..given it was a rainy day it was a little annoying to have to figure out an alternative spot :(

I was so excited to try this place because I heard their German chocolate cake is great...but uhhh I've been less astray. I got the German chocolate cake and the carrot cake and both were very dry and disappointing. They were both bland. It wasn't worth the calories. If anyone has recs on where to get delicious german chocolate cake or carrot cake in the city, please let me know!! Until then, the hunt must continue! The decor is cute and there's a couple of tables, should you be lucky to snag one.

This is a cute little cupcake bakery! The servers greeted us when we walked in. Ordered banana pudding, blueberry cheesecake, and original cheesecake. Would pass on the banana pudding- Magnolia Bakery tastes better. The cheesecakes tasted alright. I would try the other flavors. The desserts looks cute! FYI: They charged 80 cents convenience fee for using a credit card.

The fact that this doesn't have 5/5 stars is wild to me. Updating my review to say this spot still hits. I tried the golden Oreo cake and it was unreal. I also got an apple crumb bar that was amazing. Another perfect experience.

This is my 2nd time going & don't really remember what I purchased the first time cuz I wasn't too impressed. However, I went back since it's across from Prince Street Pizza and decided to get a few things. Got the strawberry shortcake (soooooo good) my niece got the smores & she said it was good. I also got the banana pudding. It was a bit too thick but it was good. I would definitely go back.

Little Cupcake Bakeshop claims that they have the best chocolate cake in the world, so I had to try it out. Came on a weekend and there were a lot of people sipping on coffees and eating cupcakes in the store. Unfortunately there wasn't any seating in-store so we had to get take out. I ordered the Brooklyn Blackout and it was quite good. It was extremely moist and would have went well with a bit of a bitter coffee. The frosting, I'm not going to lie, kind of reminded me of Costco cake frosting because it was a little bit too sweet for my taste, but I appreciated that they didn't overly frost the cake so the whole thing wouldn't be too sweet. Overall, pretty good cake that's not too dry or too sweet. Is it the best chocolate cake in the world? I'm not quite sure about that, but my friend ordered their mocha and honestly that was amazing and would definitely come back to try that drink.

I had high hopes visiting this spot on my trip to New York, as it had pretty nice reviews and many recommended this cake which looked and sounded amazing. But I realized after trying it, that the combination of differing opinions, along with my experience in cake making and working at bakeries raised my standards a little too high. I am very critical of it so my opinion is extremely subjective and I'm sure most people would love this cake, but to me the texture was too dry and crumbly and the frosting was super pasty and overly sweet. The flavors were alright, not as fresh more artificial tasting, and overall the cake tasted like it wasn't fresh at all. For almost $10 it didn't feel worth it, however the slice I got was rather ginormous and looked as if it were two slices mistakenly served as one, which was the only positive. I wouldn't order this again, if I were to return I would probably try a cheesecake. I should've went with that actually being that it was 90° here haha.

This place is a popular little gem with a large variety of decadent deserts and milk based beverages. Space is small but very chic and nice. Service is overt the counter. Servers were ok.

I'm not sure if their chocolate cake is the best in US as advertised, but it is very good indeed!!! I got slice of original Chocolate Cake and slice of Banana Chocolate Cake. I really like the original one. The chocolate is so rich and not super sweet. The texture is just right too. It's creamy but not too moist. You will feel so satisfied each bite you have. The banana one is good too, it has more flavor than the pure chocolate one. This little shop is very busy. There are only a few tables available. Customers need to self-serve. One down side is nobody cleans the tables and sometimes people just leave trash or crumbs on the table without cleaning it when they leave.

Meh. This was mid. I ordered the blackout slice and based on many of the reviews on it, I was expecting to be blown away, but at a minimum, have a truly enjoyable slice of cake. It was okay. I usually like my cake more moist from what I can at least recall, this wasn't the most moist cake I've ever had. I do commend it on not being a sugar fest like most cakes. I don't like extremely sweet cake, so that was very appreciated. I don't think I'll be coming back, but it's worth a try if you don't mind an average slice of cake that isn't full of sugar. Overall, I don't know if I'd highly recommend, but if you're in the neighborhood and very pressed for a slice, this works in a pinch. Enjoy!

Wow! Wasn't sure if it was worth the hype but it kinda is. Specifically, on these cupcakes: Strawberry shortcake Peanut butter and jelly Most of their cakes/cupcakes are pretty moist. Service is okay. A couple of tables to sit at. Great spot for dessert! A bit expensive but as expected.

Not the place to go for baked goods. All the dessert shops you want to hit are just a few blocks away. The cupcakes here taste abnormally artificial. And the chocolate cake was overwhelming. The cake was clearly bad quality as well. Just really crumbly and not enjoyable. Staff get really stressed and are super impatient. I think there needs to be a better ordering system because they try to get you to order as soon as you walk in without seeing the entire case of pastries. So you kind of end up missing out on stuff you would've ordered if you'd been able to see everything. Yeah big skip imo
