Best Restaurants in the Texas Hill Country | Eater Austin

"Austin chef Jesse Griffiths of Dai Due and San Antonio’s Joshua Flohr-Crumpton are behind this food truck parked at Driftwood distillery Desert Door. With a focus on Texas game meats, Lo Salvaje’s menu is rooted in Southern and Central Texas, meaning hamburguesas made with antelope-bacon patties, fried quail sandwiches, and chips and queso made with Oaxaca cheese. There are ample spots to sample Lo Salvaje on the Desert Door’s patio and a few spots inside with effortlessly cool furnishings that add a signature style to the warehouse. For those wanting to take their hamburguesas to go, orders can be placed online." - Deven Wilson

Best Restaurants in Driftwood, Texas | Eater Austin

"The Driftwood food truck at sotol distillery Desert Door serves Texas wild game meats in Mexican Texan dishes — the name is Spanish for “the wild.” Think turkey flautas, antelope hamburguesas topped with escabeche, and fried quail sandwiches, The truck’s co-founders are Austin chef Jesse Griffith (Dai Due) and San Antonio chef Joshua Flohr-Crumpton, with the menu led by chef Stephanie Stackhouse. Takeout orders can be placed online; there are indoor and outdoor dine-in areas." - Nadia Chaudhury

Lo Salvaje - Review - Driftwood - Austin - The Infatuation

"Lo Salvaje is a Mexican-inspired food truck at Desert Door Distillery in Driftwood. It’s from (in part) the chef at Dai Due, and as such, it involves some wild game. On the menu are wild boar guisada tacos, fried quail sandwiches, antelope/bacon burgers, and bunuelos." - Raphael Brion

I saw the food pictured online and just had to try. I ordered a margarita and paid $12 for a shot sized drink. The food came from a food trailer which is generally great. They had a wedding party there earlier, and it was apparent that they didn't prepare because they were out of nearly everything. I ordered the burger for $18, and it came with nothing and I was not allowed to order sides. It was very good but certainly not "the best in Austin" or anywhere. Certainly not worth $18 by itself. The suggested tip was 20% for food they did not bring to the table; you had to pick it up from the trailer. UPDATE: They added another $2+ to my credit card without my permission for a drink that included more ice cube than drink in a shot sized glass. Not a great experience.

The food tastes great, but was extremely over priced for what you got. The steak was only 4oz and came with a small amount of fries. There was a mystery sauce that was good, but not the chimichurri or mustard sauce that was on the menu. Not worth the $27 price tag. We also got the chips, salsa and queso. I added guac ($3) and extra chips ($2), which brought the price to around $20. The amount of guac you got was laughable and tasted like it was pre-packaged. Overall I’d say you’ll get some decent food, but it does not match the price point.

Well, I'm glad to know I have found a new contender for the best burger in Austin. As someone who loves Nilgai, it is definitely the prominent flavor in each bite. Smash style, crisped to perfection, awesome seasoning, and that melty cheese concoction that's out of this world. Will come back just for that. Our server was awesome, Hayley was super friendly and fast with drinks which were also delicious. The quail dip went perfectly too. Sweet outdoor patio area that's great to relax on. What a stellar trailer serving top notch nomz.

My fiancé and I found this place while traveling through Austin. We love the place and the food. We shared the duck flautas and it was exceptional! Very good taste and seasoning. Steph and Ethan made the experience amazing with the delicious food. Thank you all for your hardwork!

Google
I find it ridiculous to pay $15 for a small tray of broken corn chips and 2 bowls of a tiny dollops of salsa and queso in each.. like barely even a half inch of either in the cups. We really hate that when dining out, could have bought a whole entree somewhere else. I also had to wait around for almost 10minutes and no one acknowledged me while waiting to pick up this small portion of food. Sucks because we love desert door.

Google
The best burger I’ve had in Austin. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Fried quail sandwich, loaded sweet potato tots, duck tinga taco, classic nacho—all amazing. Plus you can’t beat the Desert Door atmosphere and cocktails.

Yelp
Amazing unique food from a great little food truck outside Desert Door. Classics like tacos, burgers and quesadillas with a twist of game meat, elk, duck etc. So flavorful. The salsa isn't too spicy but has a great Smokey flavor. The duck quesadilla is a can't miss. Quick turnaround after ordering online and the food is hot and fresh.
